  1. Hi all. I'm having trouble getting a transparent background on an exported PNG. I'm using AD on ipad. Here's the scenario: I've imported a .ai file of a speech bubble and want to export 'as-is' as a transparent PNG. When I export the file, I'm seeing the bubble as a square image with a grid in in the background (see screenshot - blue background) Here's what I've tried. Each time, I get this grid in the background: 1. Gone to file -> Canvas -> set 'Transparent Canvas' 2. Deselected all. Export persona -> selected top level slice (whole page) -> selected PNG -> exported 3. Pixel persona -> Selected all -> Export -> select PNG -> Area: 'Whole Document" 4. Pixel persona -> Selected all -> Export -> select PNG -> Area: 'Selection without background" I'm really confused. I would have thought that the image has transparency by default. Why is AD adding this grid background (which in my limited, novice's understanding normally represents transparency)?? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance!
  2. Hi, A hiccup in trying to use Affinity Photo in my pdf-to-EPUB processing workflow, in which all my text is being exported from my layout app as transparent background pdfs, to be converted in AP to png and resized. Every text box that has a feathered edge, is getting a hard outline at the outermost extent of the feather - ie where the feather is transparent. This same effect doesn't appear to occur in Photoshop. It occurs in AP with either a batch processor, or opening a single file. Attached is a comparison of the same file opened in both Photoshop and AP, with the same dpi and size settings for rendering. (the photoshop file has a layer of white added behind, to show up the lack of artefact. A white feathered box gets a white bounding outline. Any thoughts? (edit - genuine textbox from the book, not a statement towards the any reader of this ) thanks.
  3. I've been using AD for about a week now and I must say I love. I have a couple of tools and personalization options I still miss from Illustrator and I'm hoping to see them in Affinity soon. One of these is the option to choose the background color of a PNG file upon exporting. Setting a background in any color is fast and easy while creating the content, but exporting an image with a transparent background is impossible. Or at least I haven't found the way to do it.

    FREE Cloudy Sky background A3

Here is cloudy sky background in A3 portrait format I created in Affinity Photo and PhotoZoom Pro 7. Useful as a textured background in Publisher, and I'm guessing Affinity Designer. It is at 300dpi and in PNG format stored in a 7z archive. I hope you find it useful. Cloudy Sky (resized).7z Smaller sample also included.
  5. I'm just moving over from Photoshop Elements, so I've got Culture Shock, but I'm enjoying the process. I convert photographs to PNGs - a historic hangover from when I had trouble with support for CR2s. I notice that the PNGs produced by Affinity are noticeably darker than the PSE output, and darker than the CR2 originals, though I realise I can adjust everything. More importantly, the files are about 4 times the size - 95MB as opposed to 23MB. (These are created from a 26MB CR2 file.) I can see the case for storing the files uncompressed, to speed up processing, so is that what's happening, or have I missed something? I'm running Affinity Photo 1.7.1 on a MacBook Pro, reading CR2 files created by a Canon EOS 700D.
  6. Hello, I found an issue when exporting a PNG file. If you set transparency to a stroke, that specific stroke will be thinner when exported to PNG. To reproduce this, try the following: - create two rectangles with "rectangle" tool - set the interior of the rectangles to white - set the stroke of the rectangles to green for example - put the rectangles one above the other as in attached image (one of them will serve as a "control" rectangle) - for the top rectangle set the stroke opacity to 50% (only for the stroke) - select both rectangles, go to - File - Export - PNG - Selection without background - the result should be as in the attached image From what I experienced, this issue appear only if you export "Selection without background" and only if that specific stroke is on the exterior of the artwork. I use Affinity Designer 1.7.1.404 on Windows 10.
  7. In the Export Persona, when exporting an image for the web and you want the size as small as possible, you want to see a preview of what you will be exporting. So you can change the quality of a jpeg and see instantly what the result will be. The same when you change the number of colors in the palette of gifs and pngs. Also show the sizes in bytes of the slices you are exporting. The size is shown in the simple Export, but not in the more advanced Export Persona. Fireworks does this very well, it even has multiple previews with different export settings.
  8. Hi, I'm having a problem similar to the one described in the thread here. I want to export my line art which is a vector (see screenshot ‘Before import’) from Affinity Designer to Affinity Photo in order to colour. I export in a PNG format, import into Affinity Photo, zoom in and that's when I notice the lines look really jagged (see screenshot ‘After export with colour’). I understand that the vector gets turned into pixels during export, but I want to make the lines look smoother. Before using Affinity Designer and Photo, I was working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. My workflow back then was to export the vector from Illustrator as a PNG 'without background' to Photoshop. In Affinity Designer I have tried different PNG preset settings (see screenshot ‘Export settings’) including PNG-24 Bilinear, Bicubic, Lanczos 3 (separable), Lanczos 3 (non-separable) all ‘without background’ selected. But all resulted in the same jagged line. I tried the solutions mentioned in the thread above. However when I click ‘Force pixel alignment’ the quality in Affinity Photo doesn’t seem to change. Would someone on the support team know if I need to do something different in Affinity Designer so that when I import the vector in Affinity Photo there’s not a noticeable difference?
  9. Hi, i recently purchased Affinity Photo and i'm a user of Premiere Pro. I use a lot of text with transparent background and i´m having an issue when placing this file on Premiere. On the Corner Issue Example file attached is how it looks and i can't work with the file like that. I also tried with a Photoshop which i used before but not now and the result is as it should be, shown in second attach. So how can i manage this for Premiere to recognize the png file, what and where can i change this settings? I'm using latest version of Affinity Photo Thanks in advance Shivali And this are the png settings which i haven't changed from original
  10. Hi Guys, I have been trying to export png's of icons for a website. These are pretty small but there's a lot of them as they are used in CSS sprites. Normally I would export these as a gif or png8, but your settings only allow export to be dithered and that gives me some real quality issues. I'd love it if we could have an option not to dither the png8 and gif exports. I've attached the following files so you can see the problem: - site-product-icons11-OLD - The original png8 file out of Photoshop, undithered - I have just added 1 icon to the bottom of this file site-product-icons11a128 - 128 export (dithered) out of Affinity Photo - you can see the problem in spots of colour on say the LR logo 900px down and the steel logo at 450px down site-product-icons11a256 - as above but more colours to see if that was the issue site-product-icons11 - png24 export not showing these issues (no surprise really), but is almost 3x the file size. Thanks
  11. When copying in png images the image is appearing with a black background. To resolve this I have to save the image and then import it as an image. It would be great if you could just copy in a PNG from the web or another source. Thanks Clyall90
  12. Is there a way to remove white background like in Photoshop to make an image with transparency and then save it as PNG?
  13. Whenever I import a PNG file, colors are all off... at first I thought it had something to do with my color settings, but then I realized that if I imported the same image on JPG the colors were right.
  14. Hey there. I am new to the designer. I have "Lines" between (snapped or not snapped) objects. I've drawn some triangles and snapped them together. In the edtior there are lines between them - like an outline. But there is no outline. If I Export it to PNG all the lines are already there. I've made a screenshot. Maybe someone can give a hint. Already tried to Position them by Hand etc. no Change checked in the color-box for outline etc. Nothing. Zoomed to max. objects fit.
  15. Hi guys, i have to report crashes not only in AP as i described in my other topic, but also in AD. When exporting to PNG and trying to save to Camera Roll the app crashes constantly. I have to report also a bug with “Import from Cloud”. When you navigate to a specific folder on the cloud service (webdav protocol) you cannot perform a Search because you won’t get any result or filtering in your list of files.
  16. Hi guys, When exporting to PNG format (don't know with other format) and trying to save to Camera Roll the app crashes constantly. I have to report also a bug with “Import from Cloud”. 17. Hi Affinity Team, I am having some issues with PNGs with transparency. If I add these PNGs inside a CMYK document and export them as PDF I get different colors behind the transparency of the PNG. This happens when I use the format PDF/X-1a:2003 or PDF/X-3:2003. If I use the PDF/X-4 the transparency problem does NOT occur. I am also having these issues with other pixel graphics as well, when I use blend modes like multiply. Please check the files attached to see what I mean. It would be great to fix this issue since most professional printer would like to have files with the PDF/X-3:2003 format. Thanks and Kind Regards Tim test.afdesign Test.pdf
  18. I have a png with a transparent background that I’ve imported into Designer on my iPad Pro. Original dpi was 150. I need to upload it to an online vendor that only accepts 300 dpi files. (I know.) Changing the dpi in Designer only seems to work if I uncheck Embed Metadata in the Export screen — but when I do that and save as png, the resulting image has a white background. If I leave the setting checked, the background is transparent but the dpi remains listed as 150. Is it possible to change the dpi of the saved png to 300, but retain the transparency? edit: I’ve discovered that I can make this work if I first create a 300 dpi document and then use Place Image to add my image. I can then turn off embed metadata and retain transparency. Still not sure why I can’t start with an existing png, though.
  19. When exporting (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S) PNG from Affinity Photo , there are options to export the area as 1: whole document, 2:Selection with background 3:Selection without background. I make video game art and export selections of layers frequently as i work on them. So I'm glad i can export a selection of layers as PNG without a background, but i have to manually set the area to "selection without background" each time. Does anyone know if there is a way to change the default area of export PNG from "whole document" to one of the other options? Thanks inf advance!
  20. When exporting an artboard that is placed on subpixel (i.e. its X or Y coordinates are not an integer), the suggested artboard size on export is 1px larger than the real dimensions. Steps to reproduce: Create new document. Check 'Create artboard'. Set page width and height to 100px Select artboard, duplicate it, place the new artboard on X:120.5px, Y:0 Rename the new artboard to 'Artboard2' File > Export. Select PNG. Select 'Artboard2'. The suggested export size will be 101px x 100px. The same behaviour can be seen when exporting with Export persona. If the artboard is placed on round pixel dimensions (X:101, Y:0), the export size is correct.
  21. Hello, I am wondering wether its an issue or I’m doing something wrong, but when exporting a particular image it appears to get brighter in areas of the image which contain more light in the city part of the shot, but the sky seems to all get brighter.. what am i missing or have I found a bug? Please see the attached images. First two are screen shots, This is occurring if I export as a PNG, Tiff or JPEG, haven’t tried others yet. Exported File: 3DFBCE27-6DB5-4728-B46F-EE90FEB4C11A.tiff Screen shot of exported file: Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  22. Hi, I encounter a problem when exporting files with file>Export >PNG-24 in Affinity photo 1.6.5 on PC windows 10 1809 (this problem occured in previous versions). The file exported is not recognized as PNG-24 (even well selected in the dialog box). I explain : I make games for VR and I have PNGs to send via web to store platform. The store always says that the PNG I send is not PNG-24. You may say it's a website related problem but NO : If I open the exported-by-affinity PNG in Paint.net software and save it again in PNG-24 => no problem. In short terms : -PNG-24 exported with Affinity photo = > Wrong format -This last Affinity photo's PNG-24 re-exported with Paint.net => It OK. Are you forgetting to add some tags in the file ? Making custom things in it ? (Another problem : when importing a fresh Affinty created PNG-24 in Unity, it takes ages, whilst not if created with other software). Thank you. Cédric.
  23. Hi! When trying to export a simple image, AD shuts down immediatly. I going nuts. Any ideas? Thank you
  24. Since this subject comes up often I am writing a definitive statement. Fireworks (layered) PNG files There is no such thing as "layered PNG". The PNG standard does not define a way to store layers, and only deals with flattened images. Fireworks saves out additional layer data to PNG files in a proprietary format using a private tag. A definition for this proprietary data has never been made public. A PNG saved by Fireworks can still be used as a flattened image by any application that can handle PNG files. These applications will handle the standard data and ignore the proprietary Fireworks data. Affinity handles standard PNG files. But, it cannot import or export the layer data using the Fireworks method. There is no expectation that we will ever be able to handle Fireworks layer data in PNG files. We acknowledge that being able to support Fireworks PNG files would be of great benefit to users of Affinity. If a public definition of the data format becomes available, we will be able to address the issue. Layered TIFF files There is no such thing as "layered TIFF". The TIFF standard only handles flattened images as part of the publicly described tags. TIFF does allow for companies to register additional tags for their own use. Adobe registered two private TIFF tags that enable them to embed layer data in a TIFF. These tags are an extension and are not part of the central TIFF standard. These tags are used to embed PSD layer data into a TIFF, in addition to the standard flattened image. Since Affinity has a PSD importer, we are able to import the layer data from a TIFF if it has these tags. However, since this is handled by our PSD importer it is subject to the same limitations as importing a standard PSD into Affinity. We make clear that while we aim to provide the best third party support for PSD, we can never replicate 100% the way Photoshop handles and displays a PSD file. Photoshop has its own approach to applying alpha/transparency, vector masks and vector strokes, layer effects and gradients. This means that while we can offer importing of editable elements of a PSD file, the result will not be a one-to-one pixel reproduction of what you see in Photoshop. We have registered our own TIFF tags for embedding Affinity layer data in a TIFF, in similar fashion to PSD layer data. This is intended for use with DAMs that use TIFF as their interchange format. When saving a TIFF file, if your document has multiple layers you will be given the option of including Affinity layer data. This will preserve the editable elements of a multi-layer document. This obviously comes at a cost of increased file size. Our TIFF tags will use our proprietary data format and as such can only be used by Affinity applications. At this time we have no plans to save TIFF files with the PSD format layer data. PSD layer data held in a TIFF file will be imported and converted to the Affinity format.
  25. Hey guys, whenever I export in PNG-24 AD turns pixels into transparent pixels although I don't use transparency in AD itself. I have attached a picture of the exported PNG-24 file and the design in AD. I want to export in PNG format without transparency - how is this possible? I hope you guys can help Cheers!
