  1. Probably on my top 10 most used features in Illustrator is the stroke width tool, which allows you to adjust the width of the stroke at each anchor point. This can somewhat be achieved using the Pressure tab within the pen line settings, but it isn't nearly as precise. A couple of solutions might be: Add a stroke width tool to allow anchor points to be adjusted. Within the pressure panel, display a point on the graph for every anchor point from the shape. And allow these to be adjusted only vertically on the graph by holding shift, so that they stay on the anchor points. Create a new panel in the pen menu that allows for a numerical value to be entered in for stroke width. Thanks for listening.
  2. These suggestions avoid adding extensive UI customization on purpose. I will add photos/video at a later date. Add precise input option with Pencil/Stylus when interacting with UI The Apple Pencil is the default precise input tool for iPad. However, Affinity Designer implements a deadzone for the Pencil that acts almost like a finger. While this helps with finger input, trying to use a precise input in a manner that is less precise is frustrating. This comes up as a hindrance when trying to select nodes on the canvas amongst other nodes, adjusting handles when transforming objects, when trying to adjust sliders, or doing precise work with stroke input tool. Yes, you can zoom in to adjust but the precision of the Pencil should not require this. Expanded panels for granular control Relating the previous paragraph. There are instances when you want to have better control over the tools that you have at your disposal. e.g. Colour selection, sliders, stroke weight, typography, history, layer properties, etc. I suggest a button to extend the panel into a larger interface for better control. “Always show advanced features” toggle For larger devices, especially the 12.9” iPad Pro, the amount of taps required to navigate the UI can be more of a hindrance than it needs to be. Many times I am selecting a panel to try and get into a controller within an “Advanced” part of the UI, like stroke settings. This is easily 2 taps within each time, tens to hundreds of times per project. An option like this would massively reduce the number of taps I need to do (and time) per project. Duplicated items should have a string differentiator from their original copy Straightforward. Duplicated items currently share the same name as their parent. This makes artboard navigation a little tricky within the UI and annoying when selecting the desired artboard for exporting. Yes, it can be solved easily by renaming the artboard (another 10-30 seconds of your time) but this should be something that is done automatically when duplicating. Unlabelled icons in bottom bar should be labelled by the question mark/help button. Unlike desktop, there is no hover option for revealing the functions of unlabelled icons on the bottom bar. The help button does nothing and is frankly confusing to use the UI when all you see are symbols that don’t really mean anything. I only know what they do on desktop because I’m able to hover and read their function. See: node tool. Layer properties should be accessed by swiping left on the layer. Swiping right should select it. This would reduce taps and speed up the workflow while bringing the gestures inline with Apple’s design considerations. It matches the UI animations already with fewer taps needed to get to the same screen. Common actions like cut/copy/paste should be less buried in UI Cut/copy/paste are common actions that need a better implementation than reaching to the top of the screen, and doing two taps on the screen in a list of other commands. They would be better suited as icons in the sidebar, as gestures, or as a hovering set of buttons. Better feature surfacing akin to the Desktop version of AD iPads do not have any UI that is used to surface features of the tools you’re using, unlike the bottom bar that surfaces commands on desktop. AD is powerful but many users could miss features without better surfacing of the UI. For example, I know I can do shear transforms on objects with my iPad but it is incredibly difficult to figure out how and I still don’t. In contrast, shear transforms are very easy to figure out on desktop. Boolean tools could be more easily accessed in another toolbar or in the right sidebar. These is another common feature hidden within the document settings while building shapes. Would like to see the top bar expanded to the right of the Personas for commonly used items like the Boolean tools. “Touch for gestures only” should let touch interact with the split element. The split element is not part of the document, and should be able to be interacted with by touch. Document settings list could include a button to app preferences Not a major suggestion, but would be useful to get to preferences from directly within a document instead of having to back out of it. Very useful for testing out keyboard shortcuts.
  3. Hello, If the double tap is enabled in Settings, when double tapping in Develop Persona, will automatically trigger Develop and move to Photo Persona, instead of doing the action is set to do. To reproduce: 1. Settings->pencil->enable double tap (choose any action in double tap) 2. Switch to Develop Persona and double tap the pencil 3. Develop will be triggered and the picture will move to Photo persona.
  4. I’m having quite annoying issues trying to understand how stroke style is applied to new strokes. Basically, having set a stroke style in the style panel, I need new strokes made with the pencil tool to have that style assigned, but I really can’t find a way. Of course I could draw the shape and apply the style then, but this slows a lot the workflow. How can I gain control of which style new strokes will have?
  5. Would be nice if you cloud add Pencil style preset feature that can save and switch stroke style quickly like vector brush.
  6. Hello! I'm creating a big plane of custom shapes and after sketching in raster I want to use the pencil tool to create custom vector shapes. A problem I keep running into is while tracing an already drawn shape the tool will snap once the shape is completed, resulting in something entirely different. I've tried turning off snapping and stabilizer, but I don't know how to change this. Any help?
  7. Basically, I'm fairly new to Affinity Designers and recently got a drawing tablet. When I use a mouse to use the vector brush tool it is not shifted/wobbly. But, when I draw the same line with my VEIKK A30 drawing tablet it is all wobbly and shaky. I know I don't have the stabilizer on but, I don't like the way it functions. (I know that's how stabilizers work and are behind the point of your pen but, why are they straight when drawn with the mouse.) Below, is a screenshot I took as an example. You can see the pen settings above in the bar so, please if you see anything wrong point it out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but, I see numerous videos of Affinity Designer on YouTube where they are drawing straight lines without the stabilizer on...
  8. Hi team. I hope you guys are safe and well during all of this COVID-19 chaos! I have a quick question regarding Affinity Photo for iPad. When I draw, the screen seems to blur or lower in resolution as soon as my Apple Pencil touches the screen, and then it smooths out again when I lift it. I did a screen recording to show what I mean, here's the link (be sure to watch in HD): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSQTuxV0E34 Why does this happen? It's subtle, but it can be a bit disruptive when doing finer detailed line-art, as I can't always see the smaller areas in as much detail while drawing. An example is the finer hatched lines in the video, which become quite unclear as soon as I put the Apple Pencil down. I seems to happen less when I'm quite zoomed in, but I tend to prefer working a bit more zoomed out so that I can see more of the content I'm drawing while I'm drawing, and not get lost in the details. Thanks in advance!
  9. For me, the pencil tool is one of the most used tools in illustrator. It is a very powerfull and easy to overlook tool in Illustrator. In 1.6 the pencil tool was weak in Designer and made me not using Designer so far. I was a bit hyped when i saw the update notes that the pencil tool had an upgrade. I am flying through the update and am trying to close a shape with one line just by overlapping the first node. I am trying all kind of stuff but so far no luck. Any thoughts? the sculping option is a welcome update. It is not so advanced as in illustrator but it is a start. I am happy to see this!
  10. Does Affinity Designer have a similar function to Adobe Illustrator "Edit selected paths" for Pencil tool? It allows to correct drawn paths/strokes while drawing by "re-drawing" segments of them (I think Astute Graphics have a plug-in which does similar thing as well, again for Illustrator): it is very useful for hand drawing in Illustrator. I've tested Affinity Designer trial version on my PC (Windows 10) and it seems to perform better than Illustrator. However, I was unable to find a function similar to "Edit selected paths." Thank you in advance for help.
  11. Every time I try to draw with Designer on Mac and iPad the curves I draw are instantly "corrected" after I finish. I've tried playing with settings of the application or the brushes but I couldn't find a way to just stop "correcting" my drawing strokes. Is this the expected behavior or is there a way to disable this? Please see an attached video of what I mean. Thanks. vector brush test.mov
  12. I Hello, just bought iOS affinity photo and want to sketch with pencil over photos I’ve taken. Adobe Sketch allows a setting to ignore all hand and finger pressure, so I can draw properly with just the pencil. am I missing something, or is this not possible with a iPad Pro pencil? This will be a refund request if not possible!
  13. I am considering upgrading my old iPad Air 2 to an iPad pro 12.9, and possibly a getting a second generation Apple pencil. What is the experience of the community in using the Apple pencil (2) for Affinity Photo? Does it integrate well with the app, what do you use it for, and what tips could you give a newbie? I have looked through help and the tutorials, which gives me some idea, but I suspect there is much more that would help a new user get the best out of this hardware - software combination. And a Nikon 810.
  14. Since the last update. I can't draw in real time. Neither draw nor delete. I use the Apple pencil, but the delay is considerable. That's when he wants to draw or delete and not hang the program. We need an update soon, it's our working tool. All the time you see in the video that's happening is, we re using the Apple pencil on the screen, with brush or eraser. And then when he paints it makes him suddenly. rpreplay_final1559843880.mp4
  15. I love how each tool can have its own double tap shortcut but the shortcut options are limited. My favorite use of the pencil so far is doing alpha masks. It’s so perfect, precise, and quick in the app + pencil that I’ll probably never do curve selections for cutouts again! One very common task when drawing alpha masks is to switch between black and white colors to draw what part of the layer is visible (white) and what part is hidden (black) Request: Allow double tap shortcut for pencil that switches between two colors, kinda like hitting the X key in photoshop. This will let me quickly swap between black and white brush tool colors when working on alpha masks.
  16. When i use brush with presure sensitivity, the brush make a weird line and make chopy shape i dunno my device not compitable or what (my devices is ipad 6 2018) i need brush for making font, any one have the same issue's here? help me to solve this D18B7D97-D185-422C-8E05-374BC510AC19.MP4 A815AFBA-86AA-4735-A17B-FFC3527004A0.MP4
  17. As the title says, there is a significant lag or pause when I try to move points of a shape with my Apple Pencil. I guess the lag is also there when dragging with my finger, but it’s less visible. The points only move when I drag them for more than around 5mm on the screen. I am using the new IPad Pro 11“ and Affinity Designer Version 1.6.4.45. Here is a screen recording. In my opinion this makes it impossible to work precisely... 61F4593B-2225-4358-8A11-F27272B939E6.MOV
  18. Hi when using any brush with pressure control, the stroke goes mental and glitches out - making it impossible to see what I’m drawing. I’m up to date on all software and have no issues with any other illustration apps on my iPad. D542FB05-5721-4194-AF5B-734D1E01D91D.MOV
  19. Getting very odd artifacts while using the vector brush and the pencil in Affinity Designer for iPad. Ive tested this on 2 different iPads, and 2 different apple pencils, happens on both! Super frustrating and completely random every vector brush stroke. I know others are most likely experiencing this exact same problem. anyone have a work around or know a trick? affinity_Designer_bug.mp4
  20. The touch for gestures only is ignored....how annoying.(in the inpainting brush)
  21. Hi, I will get my iPad Pro next and I tried to figure out which pencil I should use for the Affinity app. Do you have any recommendations besides the Apple pencil? Thanks -Nick
  22. In both Designer and Photo, picking a colour with the colour picker works fine with a finger, but is unreliable with the pencil. Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes I hold my pencil over the colour and it eventually fills the outer circle, and sometimes I hold it as long as I can and the outer circle never fills.
  23. Hello, is there any possibility that a future update for Designer will allow for the user to control the smoothing on a newly created line or fill? As an illustrator it is VERY important to be able to have what I draw get accurately reflected when I lift up the pencil. Currently Designer is making that decision for me (not cool). It feels like a program of this caliber should be able to offer the user that level of control. I would love to be able to turn smoothing off so I can actually draw what I am intending. Is there a possibility that that will be implemented in a future update? Also PLEASE add a vector based eraser tool! Thank you. Caleb
  24. Hello. I couldn't find a direct answer to this. Is there a way to sculpt a pencil line in the desktop version of Affinity designer. I love using this feature on the iPad and find the Pencil tool basically useless to me without it. Thanks,
