  1. Hi there is a problem with visibility of HSL filter influence on an image in editor in CMYK8 document colour mode. In CMYK8 mode HSL changes are almost invisible but after exporting to PDF you can see real changes that have been made. It is very misleading then you have no correct colour view in editor. 2. Hello forum, I hope, someone can help me out with setting up a Publisher document: The colours used are black (from cmyk) and one spot colour. By writing the PDF for printing, all texts (set to 100% black in Publisher) are being transformed to "rich black" containing cmyk colours. (Nooooo!) How can I prevent 100%-black-elements from being converted to some cmyk colour? I've found a suggestion to create a solid colour for 100% black. That solution is not working for me: I am using greyscale photos as well. So now the created PDF contains three colours. The first spot colour, the black from the greyscale photos and the spot colour I created to prevent texts converting to cmyk. That is very annoying, I need the PDF to be used only the black from cmyk and the one solid colour. Is there a soloution for this? Thank you guys for suggestions / help. Cheers
  3. Hi I am wondering if it is possible to purchase PDF version of the various Affinity Work Books? (I did a search here in the forum and did not find any mention of it.) I ask as it would be nice to have the pdf open on one screen while going through the material in the Affinity software on the other screen. Thank you!
  4. Hello, in a group, I put text and two vector shapes. If on the group an effect is applied (drop shadow for example), on the pdf output, it's flattened. And even worse, on certain documents, it flattens everything on the page. This is a behavior that does not happen if you apply the effect to all the elements of the group and not the group itself. Is it a bug?
  5. Hello everybody, I have a problem with exporting a Publisher document on Mac: I use double-page spreads in Publisher, but once exported as PDF both pages are merged, creating one horizontal page in the PDF instead of two facing portrait pages. When printing, this subsequently leads to false proportions and makes it literally impossible to have the magazine I'm working on printed correctly. How can I fix this? Thanks for your help!
  6. Is there any way how to basically protect your exported PDF file from Affinity software (mainly publisher)? Or is there any quick alternative? Thank you!
  7. I have been designing books for kpd (kindle direct publishing) and every time I export to pdf for both my interior pages and my cover pages I am getting an error. I use the pdf for print option. I called head office to see what the problem was and they told me the file needed to be rasterized and there was layers on the pdf uploaded and that was why it didn't work. I also then tried to use the export option for print pdf (flatten) and it still didn't work. Can someone help me with this. I ended up having to export as a high quality jpg or png and then making that into the correct size for the pdf. It's funny because this just started happening. My first couple of times I uploaded (when I first downloaded publisher about 2 months ago) it worked but it's not anymore. Thanks.
  8. I have seen some similar questions on the forum but have not come across precisely the same issue. I am creating files in Designer on iPad. They are text files. There are no images, but the text is (in some cases) heavily formatted. I need to send the files by email, to be printed out and viewed at the other end. When I print directly from Designer, everything looks great. Presumably, my colleagues will not want to deal with opening Designer files, so I am trying to export as PDF. On screen, the exported PDF file looks fine. However, when I print the exported PDF file, the text is “muddy”. Not sure how to describe it, but it looks like the text has been converted to outlines or the resolution is reduced, or both, or something else (see attached). I’m not sure WHERE in the process the kink exists, and would appreciate some help figuring it out. Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated!
  9. Hello, I am having a problem when placing a pdf, originally created in Finale, into Affinity publisher. For notes with accidentals, the note-head and the accidental are overlapped and import as one character so I can not separate them. The first screen shot is the way it looks once imported, the 2nd is from the original pdf. I have found a word around by editing the document and manually replacing the characters using the maestro font, but it is extremely time consuming. I am new to Affinity, so all suggestions are welcome.
  10. I know that some elements have to be rendered to pixels for output, which varies for different versions of pdf you choose. (And I imagine if exported to SVG there have to be other supported and unsupported shadow-styles and gradients...) But: Not every part has to be rasterized, as you see if compared to the same doc in InDesign. So you have a simple rotated rectangle with inner shadow. the content of the rectangle becomes a pixel image, but the (sharp) border doesn't have to. It can keep being a vector (-mask). - pdf from publisher rectangle with "shadow inside": - Indesign "shadow inside" with cr*ppy noise added for better illustration: - viewed in acrobat pro (zoom 3200%)
  11. Is there an easy way to place a multipage PDF? I know I can open a PDF and I know you can place a PDF on a spread and select a page, but is there a more efficient way of doing this? I work in music publishing and I am constantly importing scores created in music engraving programs. InDesign has both a script that will place each page on a new spread and also a way to load the cursor with the entire file and it will place the next page every time you click. Are either (or another) of these techniques available here?
  12. I would like to add a link to a phone number (tel:+4412345678) in an interactive PDF. The Add URL function always creates a 'https://' automatically, so the tel:-link cannot work. From my point of view the automatic 'https://' is unnecessary? Many thanks and best regards Dominik
  13. Hi Folks Absolutely loving Publisher. However ... ... I'm trying to insert a link to a phone number as a URL in a pdf. For the link to work the format should be something like "tel:+44123456789". The only available (and appropriate) option in Publisher to create this link is URL. However if you put "tel:+44123456789" as the URL then the exported pdf contains the link "https://tel:+44123456789", which is invalid. I believe either 1) the output URL should be formatted correctly or 2) a URL of the format "tel:+44123456789" should flag as invalid at the time of input (if the URL box is not intended to hold a phone number). See also this thread ... Link for telephone numbers. Publisher version 1.7.3, MacOS Mojave 10.14.6.
  14. HI there, One feature Photoshop has which I really miss in Affinity Photo is the ability to extract the images from a PDF. Often clients supply a PDF, which contains images that you might want to use without the text over the top, or cropped differently. If you could import the original image, it will be more usable in other projects. Thanks Andy
  15. It is a well-known flaw of PDF that it does not print what you see if transparency is involved. As I am using transparency in my drawings with AD, my question is if there are workarounds? I would like this workflow: 1) Make a drawing in AD with multiple art boards. 2) Export that as PDF (for print, web, ...). 3) Print it, or send it to a printing company. Notes: Please, do not say "Publisher", my computer is an iPad. My book printer only accepts PDF (in RGB only - but that is not the issue here). What happens is illustrated in the two images below. The original TransparencyTest.afdesign as well as the generated PDF (for print) are also enclosed. The dark image is the printed one. The other is a screen shot of the same PDF file and looks as intended. Clearly, PDF is not wysiwyg. We look at this, back to front: The right side has an opaque, white rectangle in the very background. To make sure the problem is not a black default background. We see that is not the case, the right and left sides of the image look the same. The blue background is a gaussian blurred rectangle. Clearly PDF print handles the print wrongly. The 4 smaller snowflakes are embedded PNG which are transparent outside the actual snowflakes. The layer of the two light grey ones are partially opaque. The dark grey ones are fully opaque. In front, white vector drawings and a bit of text. They look as they should. Apparently, transparency through partial opaqueness works fine. The faulty darkness towards the boarder of the semi-opaque ones seems to be the wrong blur-darkness shining through. Transparency from Gaussian blur fails. Is there a viable workaround? Transparency of PNG fails. Is there a viable workaround? Before you suggest that the printer or the driver are at fault, please try to print it on your own printer. Ι have tried to print from different computers and to different printers, all fails. Best regards, Hans TransparencyTest.pdf TransparencyTest.afdesign
  16. I am trying to edit a series of PDFs to redact sensitive information. Upon completing the edit of one file, I tried to save and not only did Designer crash, it crashed and restarted my whole machine without warning. Connected to this, I am editing PDFs and then trying to save them back as PDF. It is REALLY annoying that it is not possible to edit and save the PDFs without Designer wanting to save as a AFDesigner file. All I am doing is opening, deleting and wanting to save. Instead, I have to open, edit, not save as work progresses and then export to overwrite the original file. It was this clunky workflow that resulted in the aforementioned crash. I was editing the file, hit save and then remembered I needed to export, so I hit the escape key. Designer paused for a few seconds and then completely crashed my MacBook Pro.
  17. I have searched to see if this has been fixed in the beta but I couldn't see specifically if it has. I am using tables to create calendar months and then linking the days to a page in a daily journal. They are put in correctly but when I export to pdf it changes what page the link goes to. I believe it is changing the whole row to the last page hyperlinked in the week. Weirdly though, the last week is all correct. I have spent hours trying to fix this, exporting is super slow! Many times I can figure it out myself but I think this is a bug. I have resorted to making 365 text boxes and linking those to the pages. Also, if it is fixed in beta, will installing it overwrite my previous build?
  18. A big problem for me is the fact, that I cannot place PDFs in APub with embedded fonts that are not installed on my computer. Well, I can place them but they don’t look like they should, because the missing fonts were replaced! In a magazine I have to place a minimum of 70 ads that I get as PDFs from multiple customers. I only have to place them onto my pages within the editorial content. And they have to be ‚as they are‘ when it comes to printing. It’s not possible to tell all the customers: "Please give me all the fonts you have used"! So please make it possible to use PDFs the common way: Put a PDF on a layout as it is, whether the fonts used in it are installed or not. Kindest regards Udo
  19. Hi, 1- I can’t export from the 3 PDF/X formats. It keeps giving me an error message but doesn’t tell me what the error is. ‘PDF (for print)’ works but the site I’m sending it to required PDF/X-1a:2001. That isn’t in the list at all in Affinity Publisher. What’s the difference between ‘PDF (for print) a PDF/X version? The description in Help seems to be the same. 2- If my photographs look right on the screen and I can adjust the setting to print from both Affinity and as a PDF from Adobe, can I be assured the PDF file that I send to the printer will also print correctly? I would appreciate your input. Thanks again, Barbara
  20. Super newbie here! I've ordered the book (Designer), but in the meantime, trying to figure things out and didn't come up with anything in the Help files. I'm designing sewing patterns to be printed and cut out/pieced together. Could someone point me in the direction of a tut or instructions on how to create a multi-page file please? I'll be exporting as a PDF and will need several pages for the entire pattern. Thanks in advance!
  21. Dear all, I've encountered a problem when importing PDF files into Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. The dashes imported are covering a part of the following letter (See first attached picture, second picture is how it shou). The result of this is that I need to change all the old dashes to new dashes manually, which is getting very tiresome if having more than 20 objects per figure. The PDFs are created in R if that matters. Is there any way of solving this issue? Thanks for any help! example.pdf
  22. When Include printer marks > Include page information is checked instead of just filename and page number, spread / artboard name should be added also.
  23. I am having the same issue, whereby a document created in Affinity Designer, some images are Jpg and some are PNG. (see attachment). I export the document to a PDF and the PNG images print black around them, it doesn't matter whether I export for print or web or 192 or 300. Visually on screen and in the exported PDF there is not a problem. Only on the printed document. I have had HP online today working on this problem thinking it is the printer, they have re-installed the drivers and it is still happening. This did not happen 6 months ago. I had printed a document out 12 months ago, no problems, then had to edit it and re-print a few months ago and this problem started occurring. I am using an iMac with Catalina installed, but this problem happened before that new operating system. I am using a HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer. I have been creating these documents for some 5 years without problem. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
  24. I have produced a pdf version of the Affinity Photo manual that you can read without starting the program. It can be interesting to put it on your phone or tablet to read when you have some time to spare. Since the file is too big to upload here, I have put it on Dropbox for you to download. It is current for the last version of Affinity Photo. Comments welcomed. Here is the link: https://dropbox.com/s/d3uxmmypdx9ruzw/Affinity%20Photo%20Manual.pdf?dl=0
  25. I would like to know if Affinity Photo has the option to create a batch of PDFs using image files like in Photoshop (like a pdf file with 50+ pages for example)? If there is a way I maybe leaving photoshop in favor of Affinity
