  1. Hi All, I have a question about editing PDFs in Designer. I have a document (for example this one). I want to open it in Designer as a "flatten" document or with outlined letters without altering fonts, but when I open it, I have a window asking to replace or not the missing font. Is there any way that I can open it as it is? I don't want to edit existing text, but leave it as it is. Acrobat opens it OK, but Designer always makes some changes to the existing document. Or maybe it is something that upcoming Publisher will do? 2. Hi All, At my company we are trying to use Affinity Designer and Photo for the creation of advertising materials. The magazine printing company is having problems with the PDFs we generate with each of these programs. They require the PDFs contain no ICC profile information. We have tried without success to create PDFs without ICC profiles using the following versions of the software: Affinity Designer - for Windows Affinity Photo 1.6.7 - for Mac The only solution we have found so far is to load the PDFs with Adobe Illustrator and recreate them, deleting the ICC profile info in the process. This was in fact only found via trial and error because we do not know of an easy way to check which ICC profile info is stored in the file. It would be great if… 1) The export worked as intended and didn’t include the ICC profile when saving 2) If we had a way to determine if the ICC profile was included (maybe there is and we just don't know) What can we do to help you solve this problem? Please let us know which files you need (the Affinity file, PDF, etc). Thank you for your help, John
  3. Hi there, I'm using Designer, and need to export 40 artboards, that have complex groups, as a flattened PDF. What is the best way to do this? Thanks! Anj Edit: found out that there is an option for it in Export

    User Guide

Good Evening Affinity Members. Can anyone tell me if there is a PDF type User Guide for the Affinity Programs? I have recently purchased both Designer and Photo but I have no experience whatsoever. I am watching tutorials but I think it would be helpful to have more information on hand. Thank You
  5. I have already searched in the forum, but have not found what I was looking for. My Question: Is it possible to set the following PDF properties during an export? Document Author Document title If so, how? In the following picture you see the desired result. My Title and A. Author should be filled by affinity designer. Thanks in advance! best regards
  6. Hi all, Just starting to experiment with Designer having been a happy APH user for some time. Does anyone have any idea why exporting this to PDF: Gives me this: I've attached the .afdesign file (including history) and the .pdf, which was exported using the default Print settings at 300dpi. Cheers, h_d splat.afdesign splat.pdf

    PDF Output Issues

I have been trying to output to a PDF from Affinity Photo. It does not work. The file will output but it is always created with a large white box about a1/4 of the image. Drop shadows under text is skewed also. I have tried all types of settings with the same results. I have also checked the files out in Preview and Acrobat with the same results. This is an issue as I go to press (digital and offset) often. The only way around it is to save the file as a Photoshop file, bring it in to PS and then create a PDF. That works fine but the goal is to replace Photoshop and I can't right now. Is this a bug?? Or am I doing something wrong?? Thanks......James
  8. I am experiencing an issue with AD 1.6.1. I have used a DAUB vector brush to create a sketchy effect on a fill on this logo. I am having problems where the stroke caps and joins are distorting when enlarged over a certain size (est 75mm in width) and rasterised, either directly in the document or when exporting in any format. I understand that these brush sets contain raster elements, therefore must be rasterised on export, but why this is skewing the joins and caps i cannot explain. Weirdly, i have also noticed that the caps and joins change in appearance when i zoom in on the paths, not even resize, just zoom in, they look completely different. Is this a bug with the brush? Am i doing something wrong with my Nodes? Please help!

    Export PDF to xCode

Hi everybody! I'm newbie to Affinity Designer and I'm trying to export some Affinity Designer's project to xCode as vectorial pictures in PDF format. Initially everything was working fine but, after some attempts (I'm designing the launch screen so, after every export, I make some little adjustments then I re-export the PDF) xCode started giving troubles: sometimes picture doesn't appear in XIB, sometimes appear only some giant pixels and, in very luck times picture appears but very grainy. I tried changing the pixel's size of the picture (is the only setting I see) but it doesn't change nothing so my questions are: - what are the requirements for xCode's vectorial PDF (resolution or other settings)? - is there a precise iter to follow in Affinity Designer to export vectorial and import them in xCode? (I can't find any tutorial about it) That's how PDF looks in my storyboard and how it looks while running. I attached my PDF project, the exported PDF and an xCode project. Thank you, Matteo! prova.afdesign prova.pdf provaPDF.zip
  10. I’ve exported a pdf from affinity designer on my Mac and when I try to print it comes up with the error ‘The document could not be saved. An internal error occurred.’ I’m printing other pdfs made outside affinity fine, so it seems to be this specific pdf that’s causing the problems. Does anyone one have any suggestions as to how to fix it? Paddington 2 A3.pdf

    linking files

Is there any way to link files to Designer so that when a particular document is opened it automatically updates the linked file?
  12. Hi! Please, i need to export my works in PDF version 1.3 (Acrobat 4). This is the only reason I still use Photoshop instead Affinity Photo. Unfortunately local italian printers require this PDF format. Can You integrate this PDF format? Thanks!
  13. I have a number of old files from a previous degree that were created in CorelDraw (.cdr). These are both vector and image files, and were used as figures in my thesis. I discovered you can batch export files instead of individually, and took all of the .cdr files and exported to illsutrator (.ai). These appear to have exported properly (i.e., they have a file size that makes sense), but only open as blank documents in Affinity. I tried one of these same files as an export to PDF (which you cannot batch export) and it opened as a layered file in Affinity no problems. thoughts?
  14. I have produced a pdf version of the Affinity Photo manual that you can read without starting the program. It can be interesting to put it on your phone or tablet to read when you have some time to spare. Since the file is too big to upload here, I have put it on Dropbox for you to download. It is current for the last version of Affinity Photo. Comments welcomed. Here is the link: https://dropbox.com/s/d3uxmmypdx9ruzw/Affinity%20Photo%20Manual.pdf?dl=0
  15. Hi, I am still a novice at graphic design and I hope I'm not asking for too much with this question. I would like to take this image (and others I have created) and make them editable in AD or AP. I'm asking for best ways to convert the file, and what to convert it too, so I can change the colors of the lines, make the background transparent, etc. Hugely complicated - I know. But it can't hurt to ask, can it? I'm also experimenting on how to actually make these kinds of designs in AD, with some luck, but not much. Your help is greatly appreciated. Bill
  16. This is my first post. I hope this is the right place to report the following bug. System: Windows 7 SP1, German Version: Affinity Designer --- I often use Roboto Light as a base font for web design. I did a screen design using several art and box texts with font Roboto Light. In AD everything looked fine. Also when exporting the screenshots to JPG or TIFF. But when i tried to export to PDF (all PDF presets) all the texts that use Roboto Light are completely broken showing messed up chars. I attached a simple AD testfile and the exported PDF/X-3 in which I reproduced the failure. bug_text-roboto-light-pdf-export_1-1.afdesign bug_text-roboto-light-pdf-export_1-1_x-3.pdf JPG export directly from AD: Screenshot PDF/X-3 opended in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC: If i check the PDF properties with Acrobat Pro DC i can see that all fonts seem to be embedded with subsets. Choosing another font (e.g. Arial, Roboto Regular, Droid Sans, ...) will export all these texts correctly. Is this an encoding / subsetting problem? I have this font installed in Windows: ROBOTO-LIGHT_1.TTF
  17. I have created multiple layers in one Affinity Designer document. I want all layers to be exported into one PDF such that when I open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro, I can see each layer in the layers tab. My UV printer recognizes each layer of a PDF to differentiate gloss, white, and CMYK inks (3 separate layers, but all in the same document). I can export the document using file/export in Designer, but it saves everything into one layer when viewed in Acrobat Pro. I can create 3 separate PDFs using the export panel, but then I need to merge them in Acrobat Pro or Illustrator. Am I missing something? Thank you.

    Can't export to PDF

Hello, I cannot export to PDF on affinity designer (or AF but not worried about that). I've tried with blank documents and ones I need to print for production and all get the same error. There is no third party software and I've just installed AD fresh, tried different colour spaces etc as suggested by other people in the forum and nothing works. This is a feature I need working as most of the printers here require pdfs to print from. Please can I get some help on this error?

Mangled Font Issue - PDF Export

Two of us in the studio are running Affinity Designer 1.6 (latest update) on Mac OSSierra but seeing identical PDF issue when exporting. 1. New and legacy AFDesign files are manifesting same behavior when we try and export PDFs (using out of the box settings) 2. Fonts appear correctly in Affinity Designer but the only way we can export files and not have the messed up files is to export Text as Curves (not ideal) 3. We're running two separate computers with local versions of all fonts. Both computers have separately licensed versions of the software too. Exact same behavior in terms of corrupt / malformed PDF output. (See attached images) Please help — this has only appeared since 1.6 update. We rely on AFFINITY DESIGNER for client deliverables. Thx.
  20. Okies, so I was basically trying to create an eBook, and now I have 26 Affinity Designer files (of pages) that I would like to convert to a .PDF. Is there any easier way to do this other than to painstakingly convert all of the files separately to a .PDF and merge them in Acrobat? Thanks!
  21. Hello Trying to open an .ai file (attached) in Designer and it is not rendering some of the objects properly. It opens OK in Xara and if I export it from Xara as a pdf, Designer has no problem. What is happening? Any thoughts? Thanks oil labels.ai
  22. Hi there, my client has decided after several months that they do in fact need the files to be usable in illustrator- yay! Does anyone know what the best export settings to use are? I've been using PDF with the dpi set to 400 so any bits which need to be rasterised still look sharp. Does anyone have any tips or tricks that would improve things further? Cheers!

    Tiny bugs in Designer

Hi there! While working on a brochure I encountered some problems with the export function of Designer ( on Windows) and the creation of new documents: Sometimes layer masks of embedded photos (.afphoto) are not honoured when exported to pdf (if a sample file is needed, please let me know). I had inserted an image that was edited in Photo before (added a mask layer in order to hide parts of the image). While the screen displayed the image in Designer correctly the exported pdf showed the image as if the mask layer was ignored. I was able to solve the issue by rasterizing the image in question before exporting it to pdf. However, the should not be necessary, should it? Settings for margins are ignored if the option „create artboard“ is set when a new document is created. This applies to the first artboard as well as all others created at a later stage. Perhaps not a bug but an inconvenient behaviour: If you copy several artboards and create a new document from clipboard afterwards, the objects of the copied artboards are inserted in one large document instead of a document with several artboards. Best, Volker
