  1. Having issues when trying to paste. I first make a marquee selection in a photo, long tap with one finger, select copy, long tap with one finger, select paste, and it pastes the whole image in another layer. It does not paste what I had selected. Even if I take that same selection and inverse it and select cut, it cuts the whole picture. It’s as if it doesn’t know I have a selection. I’ve been trying to figure this out for a long, long time and now I’ve just given up. Please help.
  2. Hello, There is an unexpected behavior with copy/paste in Affinity Designer and Publisher (Version 1.9.1). When I duplicate elements with copy and paste, they are usually pasted in the same place. If the element is outside the workspace, it will be pasted in a different place (see screenshots). Claudia
  3. One thing I have missed for a long time is the ability to copying and pasting individual Layer Effects. What I mean is that I have a set of Layer Effects which I have spent a long time tweaking saved in a Styles Group. And I have another set of Layer Effects which I've also spent a long time tweaking saved in Styles. I wish there was a way of copying some elements from one style and combining it with elements from the other style. When copying and pasting styles and effects they overwrite other styles and effects already applied to an object. Especially gradient outlines and overlays in the Layer Effects panel are a nightmare. There is no way of copying them as far as I know, and so the only solution is to make new gradients from scratch, which is enormously time consuming. It would be an enormous time saver to be able to copy, say an outline gradient from one object and an overlay gradient from another object - and of course other effects as well - on an individual, effect by effect basis. I envision an "effects palette", where you could pick for example the 3D effect settings from one object, the overlay gradient settings from a second object and the outline effects from a third object, apply them all to the object you're working on, and when you're happy with the result, maybe even be able to save the settings of this "palette" as a new style or as an "effects palette preset", where the individual settings can be tweaked further, enabled, disabled and combined with new effects picked from other objects and/or styles.
  4. I want to copy a small square portion of a layer. I draw a marquee using the box marquee tool I copy I paste It pastes a new copy layer not the marquee selection . I can mask or fill but i cant seem to copy the selection. I'm obviously making a very basic error but i cant find it.
  5. Hi. I found when I copy layer effects from one object to another, the effects will resize. Is there any way I can persist the effects parameters? Thanks! This is what I did to test: draw a 200x200 rectangle apply an outline effect to it with radius of 20px copy the rectangle draw a 100x100 rectangle edit → paste fx the 100x100 rectangle will have an outline effect with 10px radius
  6. Affinity Designer for iPad crashes every time I copy a layer from one drawing and paste it into another drawing.
  7. I have some simple SVG code (Note: ignore the viewBox attribute, it’s wrong): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"> <svg width="100%" height="100%" version="1.1" viewBox="-0.5mm -0.5mm 11.0mm 11.0mm"> <rect x="0mm" y="0mm" width="10mm" height="10mm" stroke="black" stroke-width="1mm" fill="none" /> </svg> When I paste it into Designer, for example, from the clipboard, the rectangle has a width and height of 2.4mm and a stroke width of 0.24mm, which are the original values divided by 4.166666... However, when I place the same SVG document into my Affinity document it is shown correctly, width and height of 10mm and a stroke width of 1mm. See the attached image where the small black rectangle is the one that was pasted and the larger black rectangle is the placed embedded SVG document. Is there something I am doing wrong or is this expected behaviour?
  8. I made a lot of Guides to a master pages and realised later, I could also use them on another, already existing Master Page. Didn't find a way to copy & paste them (or transfer by another method). Appreciate any help.
  9. First of all, affinity, I love you! Thanks for awesome and affordable software! 💖 About the bugs: 1. When I copy content from an HTML table and paste it into a table in Publisher, the content in the clipboard is not interpreted as a table and is therefore only inserted into the first cell. This is a feature I have to use often and it worked well in InDesign and works also in software like Numbers or Excel. 2. When I insert table content from Apple Numbers, the content is inserted not from the first but the second table line. So there is always an empty line at the top and at the bottom another line is added. Pasting from Excel works correctly. Thanks!
  10. How do I copy part of a placed image in Publisher? I have two placed png scans on a single Publisher page. I want to copy part of one image over to the other image. When I do a freehand select of a part, copy it, and then paste it, what I get is the whole of the first image, not just the freehand selected section. This was done in the Photo Persona BTW, as I assumed I had to when working with a pixel image. Do I need to get out of Publisher and do the copy/paste thing in Photo? Publisher Win 7, V 1.8.5.703
  11. Hi I have noticed there is no function to be able to paste in place. For example, if you had an image on a double page spread which was on the left page. When you copy this and paste it to another double page it will appear on the left page and have to be dragged over. It would be great if you could paste special - "paste in place" which replicates the location on the page within the page you have selected. This would be especially helpfully when creating seamless front and back covers. This is available in InDesign and would be really helpful in Publisher
  12. Hello! A friend asked me to add a Bigfoot and Santa hat to her photo. It was a fun project. What I found was that by the time I got the three layers in place trying to fine tune each layer just right the program stalled out on me. I would click on the Bigfoot layer to adjust it (like adding snow flakes) and it would stop and would not let me continue. It would be in thinking mode for a very long time. I finally just saved it as it was. I brought it back as an unedited photo and added my last few edits. It made it a very low data file of course, but because it was just for small prints on cards I was willing to let it go. Why couldn't I add the details I needed? Is it my computer, iMac 10.15.5? Thank you! Janelle
  13. When doing a copy/paste (menu or keyboard) the pasted object is not pasting in the same place as the copied object, as it did previously. I know that in other programs you can specify where the paste occurs (middle of page, x,y coordinates, etc). Does designer have a method of specifying where the pasted object occurs? I assuming I could use the duplicate function...but I'd rather have the option of copy/paste in the same place and Duplicate for other locations.
  14. Designer 1.9.0.791 on Windows 10 2004. I searched in the “Designer Bugs found on Windows” and “Designer Beta on Windows“ forums for “paste style” (without the quotes) but couldn’t find this as being reported. In version 1.8.5.703, I can copy the style of a layer and then paste it onto another layer using Paste Style and all is okay. However, in 1.9.0.791, when I use Paste Style the Stroke formatting is not applied. See attached video where the first half is what I expect in the current commercial release and the second half is what I get in the latest beta. 2020-10-19_12-48-18.mp4
  15. For those that have knowledge I have a MS Word Document that has a number of hyperlinks. When copy the text and paste it into a TEXT BOX in Publisher it strips out all the hyperlinks even though the hyperlink formatting remains? Is there anyway to bring these hyperlinks over with the text? Calvin
  16. We are using Publisher as a discussion document for a new website design, for layout, copy, images etc. and it is working very well. I'm now tasked with copying text from the pages in the Publisher document into the web page design software (Netbeans) and I'm encountering the following strangeness when viewing the published web page in Chrome: Sprinkled throughout the text are these P SEP boxes which appear where there are paragraph breaks. I'm just using a select text, copy and then paste in the other app. This is a non-printable Unicode character that is not visible in most editors but can be deleted if you know where they are. There is also an L SEP box but I'v not encountered any of those yet. Is there any way I can avoid these characters being included on the clipboard?
  17. I've been trying to Paste a "Tripod Cap" image over the tripod over the Tripod in a Panorama But can't return to Equirectangular Projection view after Pasting and Positioning it. Tried some Cloning over part of the tripod and was able to return to Equirectangular Projection view Why can't I Merge the image down and return to Equirectangular Projection view?
  18. I would like to : • draw an ellipse outline over a photo (no fill in the ellipse) • select the pixels under (within) the ellipse • invert the selected pixels • darken the inverted pixels • Or, copy the pixels under the ellipse (or any other selection) and paste them on a new layer. I've been doing this for 30 years in Photoshop and GIMP but cannot do it in AFF Photo. The photograph is a pixel layer. In fact, I cannot even copy what's under the ellipse and paste in on a new layer. What's the secret?
  19. Hi Walt, following some discussion under "Absolute beginner" here is an example of what I've come across. "Sample Squiggle" was a blank document, in which I made a random squiggle in black with the pixel tool. I then copied and pasted it (using Cmd C and Cmd V), and used the Move tool to slide the copied version away downwardss from the original. If you enlarge it to, say, 3,000% you will clearly see a mid-grey artefact attached somewhat unpredicatbly to the shape of the original. Less obvious is a very pale grey artifact, usually on the opposite side of the line. Some bits of the line are not affected at all, so far as I can see. I found three levels of grey. I would copy from my diagram, but in pasting it into a document you could see I would be corrupting it anyway, which would be confusing. But if you care to believe me I will say that I usually get more complicated blurring than this. I've put up the original diagram, renamed as "Wiring x", and at position 57 on the scale at the bottom of the page, and about half way between top and bottom there is a box with the legend 'Na 7' in it. The box is made of two black one-pixel-width lines, with the space between them filled with pink. A similar box, with the legend 'Na 5' is to be found at 47 on the bottom scale and a bit above the middle vertically; it show no sign of blurring. I can't say for certain whether this is something which I copied without the paste problem, or something I made from scratch. But this is what Na 7 looked like originally. The pattern of artefacts is similar, but different. The letter 'N' has artefaacts on both sides of its legs and of its diagonal. You will see that the original single-pixel line is still there in my 'Squiggle' example, but it has been lost in the Na 7 example. Interestingly, when I opened the diagram the squiggle vanished. Luckily I had saved it! Best regards, Tony. Wiring_x.afphoto Sample squiggle.afphoto
  20. Hi team, Attached the designer documents containing the pattern (symbol), and the other being 3000 pixel document. When copying the pattern, either all layers or the patterns only together, then pasting into the 3000 pixel document, Designer crashes. 21. Hello, Since I work with very complex graphic files (maps), which have many layers, it is very important that when copying a section from one file to another (new) file, the structure of the layers and sub-layers is retained. Enclosed are 4 screenshots showing what happens to the upper layers when only individual objects are copied from them. Otherwise the new file becomes extremely confusing. Also, symbols will be copied into the new file as symbols, but not into the symbol palette of the new file, why not? How can I realize this? Is this planned for the future? Thanks, Claudia
  22. When copying and pasting parts of my sheet music, and then exporting as a PDF, I find there are thin visible outlines around every area I have pasted, which makes the sheet music very messy looking. The lines are not visible when editing in Affinity Photo. An example is attached. Can anyone help please? page4.pdf
  23. Maybe the commands I'm after are before my eyes and I'm just not seeing them... Programs like Microsoft Word have "copy and paste text formatting" commands. The commands store character formatting and you can later paste the formatting to other text. With some editors, if a paragraph marker was part of the original selection, you can even paste the copied paragraph formatting—not just character formatting. Something like that could be very useful in Publisher. But are there such commands for use within text frames and I've just missed them? I see a keyboard shortcut for "paste style" but it seems to apply only to objects, not text formatting.
  24. When I try to copy a layer that has a symbol on it to another file, the app will crash and exit as soon add I press paste. The only way around to be able to copy paste the layer will be to turn off the symbol, and then copy paste the layer to the other file and then make the symbol there. Does this happen with any symbol, or only a certain one? Does this happen in any document (including a blank, new one?), or only in a specific document? Are you copying from one file to another file within the same Affinity app, or are you pasting the symbol into a different Affinity app? Are you using Windows or Mac? No it happens on iPad. I posted in Rhee wrong place, sorry. This happens with every symbol an in every document, even on a new blank one. I'm copying from one file to another.
