  1. Hi, This one is slowly getting to me now after several tries to fix it... I have a brochure with some basic pages, some text styles and a separate TOC page. So far so good. Chapter headers are a separate text frame/style apart from the text frame paragraphs. No text flow between the two. When exporting the brochure, the PDF comes out fine, and I have perfect pages and a nice page thumbnail list. But when I look in Edge at the List view for the TOC, or in Firefox at the Document Outline (same thing, different name), I see my chapter headers listed, but -also- all my text from the following text frames. So imagine a looong list, instead of just the chapter headers. I also tried to create the chapter headers as a artistic text, but with the heading textstyle attached it does the same thing in the export. I looked at my all my text styles, document and export settings, but cannot seem to find out what is causing this? I probably overlooking something very basic here. edit: oh... Win 11 and Publisher 2.3.1 MSIX Anyone has a tip or idea? cheers! Rob
  2. I would like to see Affinity Publisher have built-in world-ready paragraph composer. This function would generate a very nice text handling (both on screen and on printout). No unnecessary spacing between words. Currently InDesign give us nicer text output - but a future Affinity Publisher with world-ready paragraph composer should give equal nice text output as InDesign.
  3. I have to translate a Japanese text document for my accountant, and every year they add or remove some lines on the form. I've got text to the left and right of my document indicating what is what inside the form, but I need to be able to set the line spacing...but there is no way to adjust line spacing, or that's what I've determined after trying to find the answer for two hours. Could someone help me? The goal is to b able to adjust the lines I have highlighted by pixel or point, but nothing I try is working.
  4. Can this be done? I'm pasting a long text into a text box but want make a 3 column layout thus i need it to be split into three separate text boxes. Right now i'm doing this the old fashioned way - manually by copying and pasting what doesn't fit in a text box to the other boxes... chers!
  5. When using a document that was created in Designer 1 I cannot change the leading of text. This behavior continues if I paste the text box into a document created in Designer 2. The example document contains two text boxes. One was pasted from Designer 1, and the other was created in Designer 2 and the text was pasted in. You'll notice if you change the leading of both, the second text box is the only one that changes. paragraph test.afdesign
  6. Hi. I suspect I'm being a bit dim. But could someone direct me to a help file for setting up a paragraph format for the following: I would like the first line of a chapter/block of text not to be indented (i.e. flush left) but then for subsequent paragraphs to be indented... Any suggestions? Also, whilst I'm here, I've been trying to find how to display paragraph symbols and page breaks etc. so I can see what's what re: formatting. However, I can't seem to find the information on the Affinity help files. All pointers welcome! Edward
  7. There is no feature “hyphenation” in the paragraph tab in Designer, is there? But when automatic hyphenation is not possible in Designer, why can you choose the hyphenation language in the character tab?
  8. [AD 1.7.0.188 beta] The bullets remain on the left if the entire paragraph is to be aligned to the right.
  9. Hi, for a long time i dont understand why Affinity and also other programms act like this: Let's say you write something (e.g. in Affinity Publisher) and you export the document as a PDF. Now you open this PDF in Acrobat. You mark the text and copy it e.g. into Word. The problem: The text is not copied as a whole text, instead there is a new paragraph/line after every line of the PDF document. The same problem also appears when you print a PDF out of Word with "Microsoft Print to PDF". It does not appear when you save a document as a PDF out of word. I think this whole thing is a massive problem because it makes exchanging texts between different people much more difficult. Every text is completely torn apart if you want to implement it in a different layout. I'm often corresponding with local newspapers here in Germany and I think it produces much unnecessary effort for them that they always have to delete all the new paragraphs/lines and replace them with normal spaces, when they want to put my texts into their layouts. How can I fix this PDF export problem at least in Affinity Publisher? Thanks in advance! Bastian (sorry for grammar/spelling mistakes, my English is not the best)
  10. Hello! Has anybody ever experienced a locked leading? No matter how I change the leading size, the spacing doesn't change on the text. Please see screenshots of when leading value is different but the spacing remains the same on the actual text. I noticed that this only happens when I copy over existing text on other afpub files. And that actually opens up other problems as well (e.g. stroke outline becomes thicker or thinner when I copy paste from another afpub file) This is really bugging me so much as I work with templates and I have to use pre made layouts over and over again. I hope someone can help.
  11. When making changes to the input values in the character and paragraph studios, I would be nice they would behave like other input values and update/display the changes live in realtime. As is the case with color panel and guides manager, etc. It is as if when using the arrow keys to change character and paragraph related values, the input field "loose its selection". Where if you do the same thing with other input fields, the active input keeps the selection and therefore changes the value... Sorry for the bad terminology around selection and active input values, I don't know the exact term. Any for clarity I've attached a short video. 17_36.38-1.mov
  12. Hi, I've got a "Headline" text style with "Space before" set to 20pt and "Space after" set to 0 and the "Next style" set to "Copy". The "Copy" text style is forced to 0pt "Space before". When I write the headline and press enter for a new paragraph, it switches - as expected - to the "Copy" text style. Yet the space beween my headline and the following paragraph is high. What could cause such a space? There seems to be something fundamental about paragraph spacing or text style inheritance that I'm missing.
  13. Hello. I'm sorry if I will suggest something which already exist in your software. I will be honest, I did not tried it yet but after watching tutorials and after fast look through the forum, I really see no points to try. Why not? I'm long-time user of Ventura (since Xerox Ventura Publisher v.1.1 DOS till the last Corel Ventura v10). And some features which existed in Ventura in 199X still missing in the modern apps - which made modern systems almost unusable for people like me, who have an experience without them, I can see only another clone of InDesign which make no more sense than the original one. Which features I mean to be so crucial? 1. A dedicated "paragraph" tool. Nowadays, all apps I know use the same tool for text and paragraph, but they are different beasts! Give back an ability to select and operate multiple PARAGRAPHS together in a random order. This is crucial for structured texts, like poetry or interviews, texts with multiple subheads, lists and bullets, etc. 2. Give us paragraph styles when vertical position will be related on previous paragraph position (first line's baseligh alignment, breaks, relative indents). It hard to explain, just refer to any versions of Ventura, even earlier DOS version. This is crucial for handling table-style texts, like documentation, without usage of actual table which is way faster and flexible. 3. Multy-column page layouts and Multy-column text frames! And advanced decoration (frames, rules) for frames, to avoid innecessary graphics, which is important for appkucations like magazine layouting. 4. Paragraph styles which can respect or IGNORE colunms. This is very important for a long structured documents - for example, magazine-style or book 2-columns layout with multiple heads breaking the columns. Please, do it, and the army of professionals who remember old good times will be yours Please, refer this manual for Paragraph tool, Paragraph style setyings and Frame Settings: http://www.bitsavers.org/bits/Xerox/Ventura/doc/610E03760_Ventura_Publisher_1.1_Reference_1987.pdf
  14. I'm working on a catalog that make use of tab stops a lot. I have created a paragraph style with all the tab stops needed. Great. But now i have a paragraph that need to have a new tap stop at the beginning of the line. To my surprise, Publisher don't let me add a tab stop lower than the higher already existing. if i enter the measure manually, it jumps to the automatically added value. If I decrease the measure clicking the arrows or with the mouse wheel, only goes down to the value of the higher tab. How can I add a smaller tab to a paragraph then? This means that i need to recreate all tabs in crescent order from scratch or modify all tabs values already existing. Does not make sense. Steps to reproduce: Create a paragraph Create some tab stops in the tabs panel, let's say: 10mm, 25mm, 50mm and 78mm Now try to create a tab stop at 13 mm. Impossible. Only let you create tabs 78mm or bigger.
  15. In publisher, when I use ENTER, I get a new paragraph. Just like typing here. But I just want to start a new line, NOT a new paragraph. I've tried all kinds of changes in the paragraph menu. Please help, because I'm loosing it...... Philip
  16. Greetings I had a suggestion, the "space before" style should be able to be a negative value. For example, I want my bullet lists closer to the line above them since that line explains what the list is. The thing is the list is being pushed away from that line because of it's spacing. I don't want to change the top line's spacing because it's great for the rest of the document, just the bullet lists could be closer. Is this a possibility or will it open a can of worms? Thanks.
  17. The drop-down menu on the Spacing section of the Paragraph tab/panel isn't resizing, so it disappears under the RH side of the panel. Compare the two screenshots. In fact, I have to stretch the panel to almost full screen width to see the drop-down. This is a bit of a pain. Please fix. Or is there an easy fix? Delete p-list? Thanks. Thanks.
  18. When I add a Top Paragraph Decoration and increase the Distance To Text it comes nearer to the text. Also, when I add a Bottom Paragraph Decoration and increase the Distance To Text it comes nearer to the text. Shouldn’t the distance to the text increase when the value increases, i.e. Distance Away From Text? The current orientation doesn’t seem right to me.
  19. Good afternoon, I am new to Affinity Designer and I am trying to design a logo for my business. I have been using Youtube video tutorials to help with most of the basic things but when trying to edit text, I am unable to locate the Character and Paragraph options in my toolbar. Should they already be there or do you need to add them manually? For example, below is a screenshot of the tutorial I am watching. and below this is my screen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  20. Recently I have moved on from PagePlus to Publisher and come across a serious problem which I did not have with PagePlus. When inserting a text (in Swedish) in a text frame, justifying a paragraph creates a number of rows where a single word is spread out with long distances between the letters. Please see the attachment. I suspect it has something to do with that Publisher does not recognise the Swedish language, because the automatic hyphening doesn't work either. There are several Swedish dictionaries available online, but there is nothing in the help file to explain how one can incorporate them. I would be most grateful for a work around. or else I may, regrettably, have to revert to PagePlus. With many thanks in advance, Örjan Widegren
  21. Not impressed! This is the first time I've ever had BSOD on Win10 and Affinity Designer just did it twice trying to dock a pop out menu. Yes I'm using the latest version Yes I can recreate, it happen twice in a row doing exactly the same action. Its' only happened in the one document, but not willing to keep killing my OS just to test that. System details: Windows 10 Pro - latest updates etc. What happened? - It killed my OS and forced a restart, what did I expect... Not that! Steps to recreate: Load document Try to drag pop out tabs for character and paragraph options to be docked around the bottom right corner of the screen The menu will start to stutter, the system will lock up and then the OS will exit to the BSOD forcing a system restart. Screenshots: I could record on my phone but I'd rather not keep blue screening my system unless absolutely necessary. No unusual hardware Did it used to work? - Don't know
  22. New beta release of AD is awesome! Thanks to the Affinity team. However, I've found an issue. Tab is appearing as soon as I create a new text frame using the Frame Text Tool. Is this a bug?
  24. This drives me crazy! When entering text in a text frame Publisher always capitalizes the first word of a sentence and I can't find a way to turn this off! I type in the first word of a sentence and all is fine (first screenshot) and the moment I press the space bar the first character in the word gets capitalized (second screenshot). The same also goes for tables, by the way. Anyone here knows if this can be turned off or is it a known bug?
  25. I'm finding the justification settings on Publisher not as good as my former layout app (InDesomething it was named…) Most of the time I get excessive space between some words, that not justify settings can correctly avoid, specially on paragraphs that doesn't use hyphenation (I have customers that don't want hyphens at all, ups!) The key difference I find from InDeapp whose name we don't say, is that it offers character horizontal scale settings inside the Justification settings. There, I can use a threshold from 97% to 103% (With 100% as preferred scale) and that makes for nice paragraphs with perfectly equilibrated word spacing. I suggest to add that option on Publisher, specially if is your intention to make it able to open that app files someday. It would be a nice and happy addition. Cheers!
