  1. Hi I'm trying Affinity Paint as a less money-rapacious alternative to the Photoshop that I've been using for 20 years, and I hope you can help me with some trivial issues I'm having For starters I can't make sense of the way that the panels work. I'm trying to use layers to paint adjustments onto an underlying image (masking, de-saturating irrelevant areas etc), but I can't even get that far All I want is to have the painting tools and the layers panel visible at the same time. But the painting tools are only visible in Photo persona and the layers, bizarrely, are only visible in the Export persona (is there any possible reason for that?). The problem doesn't even arise in Photoshop because (a) it doesn't have the added overhead and confusion of personas and (b) you can open any panel at any time and put it wherever you want. I have no doubt that there'a a perfectly simple answer, but I can't find it i the help or tutorials, so maybe some kind person can politely explain why I'm being such an idiot? Thanks J Affinity Photo 1.6.11, Mac 10.14.1
  2. I dont know how but I somehow managed to turn of the editing panel on the right side and I am kinda new in this :'D How do I turn it on ?
  3. In the layers panel, when you disable (not remove) some effects on a certain object it might be worth keeping the "fx" icon in the panel but maybe with a red "X" through it so you know there are some effects applied to it but are just disabled. That way with a click on that "fx" with a red "X" you can toggle the effects on and off right from the layers panel. Currently when I disable the effects, the icon disappears and I don't know which objects I have tried some effects on... This way, at a glance you are reminded which elements have effects applied but are turned off.
  4. Where is the library panel? I was looking at the video with the instagram like filters but can't seem to find it Thanks, awesome job!
  5. I am using a 5K iMac and I went to add tabs I can add about 5 and then the rest are hidden. I tried to scroll, key down, enlarge the panel (It won't vertically) without success. I need to change the justification of those hidden tabs.
  6. By default, the panel to modify Adjustment layers appears at the bottom. This creates problems when you have dual monitors in vertical layout, or if you have a floating video player in that corner (for tutorials etc.) I know you can move each Adjustment panel individually, but I would like all Adjustment panels to appear by default on the top-left and/or be able to drag it into a floating toolbar (as indicated in the screenshot). Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
  7. I'd like to suggest a few improvements to the Swatches panel: Ability to convert swatches from and to normal/global/spot. For example, convert a normal swatch to global, or convert a spot to normal, and so on. Fills should automatically rename when colour is edited. For example, a fill named C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:10 should change to C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:50 if I do edit the colour to be a 50% black. Ability to group swatches into folders. Global colours names should be their values (for example C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:0) rather than "Global Colour %n" A command to select/delete all unused swatches. Perhaps create a document palette by default for any new document? A "Merge Swatches" command that works like in Illustrator Select multiple swatches at once to delete/copy them Global, overprint and spot colour indicators should be larger, they're hard to see when the swatch is selected (see attached) All these are to help us manage & identify the colours, plus correcting mistakes all designers make eventually. :P Thanks!
  8. I recently lost the "colors" and "brushes" panel in the Pixel Persona setting on Affinity Designer. They don't appear in the Toggle UI anymore when I switch to Pixel Persona. My cursor accidentally got the tabs all mixed up and then they just disappeared. Do you know how I can get them back? Thanks.
  9. Double click any swatch in the Swatches panel Switch to any of the sliders controls (RGB, CMYK, LAB, happens in all of them) if needed Place cursor on the first field (R for RGB or C for CMYK, etc...) in the flyout window Type a new number, works fine Tab to the second value (G or M, etc...), type new value, works fine Tab to the third value (B or Y, etc..), you can't type anymore I aso noticed the if you tab between like above, but without changing value, by the time you reach the third value the focus switches from the Swatches panel flyout to the application main menu at the top. Thanks!
  10. I really like the responsiveness and immediate feedback about symbols in Affinity. But managing them is not as easy as it could be, much of that happens because of the lack of some functionalities in Symbols panel. What I'd love to see in an updated version of the Symbols Panel: List view Custom categories to groups symbols Search bar Ordering options: manual, alphabetical Easier renaming: select one, double click the name, and when finished, press tab to rename the next one Features to manage symbols in the artboard: Contextual menu to replace a selected instance of a symbol in the artboard by another one on the library Option to, when cmd+click on the symbol, do not select it's layers, but the whole symbol. (This is useful when you want to select a symbol inside a complex hierarchy of groups and layers, but do not want to edit the symbol.) Other advanced features Ability to nest symbols inside symbols Ability to override nested symbols Well, this is what I'd like to see regarding symbols. I hope that this adds something to the discussion about the roadmap.
  11. While using Affinity Photo, the Adjustment Panel periodically stops displaying one or more adjustment options. The attached screen shot shows a blank space where the Levels adjustment option should be. Clicking in the blank space where the option should be, often opens the desired option, but not always. Clicking a different option will sometimes restore the missing adjustment, but then a different one disappears. Rebooting the program restores the missing adjustments, but after a while, they begin to disappear again. I am using Affinity Photo version 1.6.6 on a MacBook Pro running High Sierra version 10.13.3.
  12. Hi. Previously there are request about symbol management here https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/45462-assetsymbol-management/ Well, it might be harder/ takes longer to implement. But for next update, can you guys at least making a way to delete multiple symbols at once (from symbol library). Currently doing right-click -> delete -> confirm is very tedious for me as I can have like 100 - 150 symbols at once. Thanks.
  13. I'm trying to use the Symbols feature, however I can't find how to switch on the symbols panel that I see on video tutorials. Any help please?

    Can't find layers panel?

I use multiple monitors at work, so I am thinking this might be the cause? My layers panel has disappeared. I don't know where it is or how to get it back. Can someone help? Am I missing something obvious? When I right click on an item and click on "Find in Layers Panel" nothing happens. Really love using this trial and am probably going to purchase. But I gotta know why it's doing this. Thanks!!
  15. Draw something (anything). Create a Symbol from it. Drag a new instance of the Symbol from the Symbol Panel but before releasing the mouse button… Hit Escape key to abort the operation. The mouse pointer changes, but the Symbol is still being dragged around. On release the Symbol is placed. Now try to drag another instance from the Symbol Panel. The Symbol is not dragged, though the mouse pointer does change. On release, no symbol is placed. Now close the document, and start again from #1 You will find that the incorrect behaviour persists. Affinity must be closed and rerun before Symbol dragging returns. Sorry GIF is a bit abrupt, but hope you can see what is happening!
  16. The attached screenshot shows it pretty clearly. This happens when I drag panels that are attached to each other upwards so that the pointer crosses into the OS toolbar at the top. Somehow they all become stacked on top of each other. studio.mov
  17. IU'm converting from Photoshop and struggling to understand something - In the colour panel, there are 2 colour circles which appear to correspond to a 'fill' colour, and a 'stroke' colour - whereas in Photoshop they relate to Foreground and Background colours. Does Affinity Photo have a concept of Foreground and Background colour or not? In Photoshop I can create a gradient from the foreground colour to the background colour - how do I do the equilavent in Affinity Photo? I used the colour dropper tool to select 2 colours in a photo, but as soon as I switch to the gradient tool I don't seem to be able to use the colours I picked, as a white gradient fills the entire layer and I cannot find an option to go from Fill to Stroke colour.
  18. I tried rearranging the panels within the right hand studio area, to see if it improved my workflow. Discovered that I lose the ability to resize the Stroke panel, and also that changing between the Stroke and Brush tabs causes a strange jump in size.
  19. Hear me out.. Why not let AD do the work for you.. So instead of the user having to find layers and groups by scrolling, it should just jump right to the selected object/group in the Layer PaneI. I mean AD highlights selected, but it could just as well jump to it. I would LOVE to see this added
  20. I love the constraints feature in Affinity. But I see three major issues that make its use a little more difficult than it should be: 1. Constraints panel is too big and takes too much space on the screen. 2. Constraints panel is not related to the transform panel, which is a little odd if you take in consideration that constraints are relevant to object's size and position. 3. The "Min fit" and "Max fit" icons are not clear about what they are supposed to do (even watching the constraints tutorial, I found it very hard to understand how they behave, and what are the practical applications for them) So I've drafted this redesign proposal merging Transform panel with Constraints panel. What do you think? I'd love to see something like this on Designer 1.7 :D
  21. About closing a panel... I notice in the panel menu in the top right of a panel or block of panels, the menu choices do not include Close. I know you can close a panel by View > Studio > uncheck the panel. And Help says: Each Persona's workspace can be customized to fit your individual way of working. To hide/show a panel:From the View menu, click the panel name on the Studio flyout. To show again, click the panel name again. etc, etc BUT I also notice the Layers panel has a nice big X in the top right that quickly closes that panel. Thought maybe it is because I have the Layers panel standing separate from other panels. No, the Assets panel is separate and doesn't have a handy "X" - so, a quick "X" close is only available for Layers?? Or am I missing something about the other panels?
  22. With the amount of awesome brushes being created for the community, it is becoming clear that the need to organize and separate out favourite brushes is the logical next step. Not sure how best to do this, and maybe just concentrating on the brushes panel for now, as opposed to an "app wide" solution might be the way to go. A simple "save as favourite" system would be a good start, eventually with the ability to move, group and reorganize in one panel or even multiple panels or panel sub structure for various workflows - texturing, blocking, detailing, dots etc....?
  23. Hello, would be great to change the background color of the Panel of the Assets Library. Would be very useful once you have a lot of Icons in the Assets Library See attachment- THX Nod
  24. I just wonder what is it? and how it works? Thanks
  25. Hey there, Affinity Designer v1.5.2.58 When renaming colors in the Swatch-Panel, a complete different/wrong color get's renamed. Could not get the pattern why which color get's renamed. See attached GIF. Greetings, Johannes
