  1. Hello!! FYI, I did search for a solution in the help files and forums here, but apparently I'm not using the right search terms... Installed and downloaded the full suite literally about an hour ago. Being an InDe user (and Quark and PageMaker back in the day), I've been able to get a document created and populated pretty quickly. I'm impressed with Affinity's offerings! Of course the interface is going to have a learning curve, but that's to be expected. However, I'm stumped on the following: how do I get the page number field to display on the first page of my document? It's a short doc, only ~15 pages, doesn't really require organizing with sections. I set up a page number field on my master page. I tried creating a new section, but the "start page number on" is grayed out on the first section (which is only the one first page). A workaround could be to just put a text box with the number on p1, but it seems like it would be do-able from a master? I am a graphic designer and amateur photographer, looking to transition to Affinity for personal projects, keeping the Adobe stuff for my employer (who pays for my enterprise subscription). At first glance, the software should meet all my future non-commercial needs, which is wonderful! Never have been able to get the hang of Apple's Pages or Keynote, or lay out anything in Word or Docs... (And I hope one day detach from Adobe for my photography as well... but, one step at a time for now.) Thanks in advance! MacOS 14.2.1, AfPub 2.3.1.
  2. Greetings all, I cannot work this one out. On one page only (out of 220) I do not have a page number. The correct master page is applied - but the page number 'box' has no number, just 2 red dots. I have tried deleting and reinstating master pages in layers. Screen grab attached. Any solutions appreciated. Thank you.
  3. I don't seem to be able to change color or style of page numbers in master pages. Any font is bold and black although I can change size.
  4. I am working on a document (book) that is really 2 books in one. The author wrote one book, then 2 years later wrote a second book. Book 1 and Book 2 are designed to work with each other (a teaching text), and as such the author combined the 2 books into 1 larger book. As such the author has page 1-2 and then page 1a- 2a (technically pg 3-4), then page 3-4 (technically 5-6), followed by page 3a-4a (technically 7-8), etc. Currently there doesn't seem to be any system in Publisher that allows for this kind of non-standard numbering system, it would be nice if there was an easy way to do this that will save me from doing this manually for 160-ish pages (last pages being 81a-82a)? Since this isn't easily accomplished at the moment, might I suggest a feature to allow something similar? There is still a need to publish each book independently, but there is also a huge need for the combined book. So having access to all 3 versions (book 1, book 2, and the combined book) would be pretty awesome. Ultimately, I envision a process where I can take 2 books (my situation), either build them separately in differing files, and then combine them. Or perhaps the converse where I build 1 file, then split apart into the separate books. Maintaining the non-standard page numbering as mentioned above. Robby
  5. When I insert a page numbering field, the hash always lands outside the frame. Not only that, two-digit numbers are presented vertically, regardless of the size of the field.
  6. I would like to create a document with automatic page numbering that also shows the total number of pages. While I can see how to add an automatic page number to a document, I have not found a way to add something like " Page 1 of 7"... Am I missing something or does this feature not exist? It it does not exist, would it be possible to add it?
  7. It would be helpful if we could have the option to have a TOC field be composed of the associated page numbers without the accompanying text. This would allow us to have a TOC field that is only the numbers which could be formatted a different way from the associated heading text but it could be updated without the need to reformat any style. This would be useful for TOC that need to have the page numbers a different style than the heading text. We could simply have a field for the #s and one for the text and then update both of the fields and everything would be good to go. As of now after an update of the field we need to go in and change all of the numbers to the desired style every time. Hope that makes sense! If there is an easy way to accomplish this now that I'm missing I'd love to learn. Thanks, Jeff
  8. I have set up a master page (2 page spread) with page numbers bottom left on left pages, and bottom right on right pages (along with text and picture boxes). I have written over 100 pages, with no problems - all is as it should be at this point. I need to insert a single page part way through the document. When I do this, the placement of the page numbers is thrown out - from the insert point on, the page numbers are on the opposite side of where the master has them. To try and solve this, I tried to reapply the master to the affected pages, only to have all the text in the textboxes disappear. Next thought (after reading the online help) was to have 2 masters - one with the background, text and picture boxes, and a second master with just the page numbers. The online help calls this set up: Using multiple hierarchical master pages (Master pages can be applied to other master pages in more complex documents. For example, a 'parent' master page containing just page numbering could be applied to 'child' multiple master pages colored separately for each section. This means you only need to change the page numbering styling on the parent master page; also, as you create new pages you only need assign a child master page while inheriting page numbering automatically from its parent.) Will this solve the problem? and how do you do it? Or, is there a better way? Thanks Garry
  9. Looking at the "default" style/formatting for the index entries (inside a text frame) I would like to see the following: 1. Page numbers always starting on the same line as the indexed item. This has the advantage of saving space (extra lines) in the index. 2. Page numbers that wrap around to the second and subsequent lines, should be indented from the indexed item itself. Also helps the viewer to scan for index items easily. Example (ignore empty lines - they are an artifact of this forum's format): P Parts 11, 12, 16, 21, 22 Photo 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 100 Plano 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 250, 251, 300 I could not find a way to do any of this with the existing UI. Are there some specific settings that would accomplish it?
  10. I've been following the beta for some months. This is the first problem I've had that I can't find on search. I have a book with 300+ pages. I tried to insert page numbers but experienced problems. The page numbers go from 4 to 9 (different master for 1-3) without problems, although th size needs to be modified. For 10 I get a full-sized 1 on the left and a much smaller zero on the right. It almost looks like a superior power. This goes for 20, 30 and 40. I've gone no further. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Derek I've created a little unlisted video on YouTube here:
  11. Hello All, I am trying to set the starting page number on a Master Page. I have looked at the Section Manager and, what looks like where this should be set, is grayed out. Have I missed the place to set this or is it a known bug that will be fixed in time? Sincerely, Robin
  12. Help! Whenever I import a manuscript PDF created from Pages into Affinity Designer, the page numbers all have a ">" symbol next to them and sometimes illustrations do too. I can usually delete these symbols, but for a 200 page document, this is a pain.
  13. Hello, Wondering if there is a way to automatically place page numbers somewhere on a mult-page PDF in affinity designer. I imported 120 page and affinity has small identifier above each page/art board showing it's page number. Is there a way to actually place number onto each page without manually adding text to each one and typing it? Thanks! Jason
