  1. I want the Space Bar to invoke the Move Tool and to never invoke the Colour Picker, how to I disable the Colour Picker from appearing when I am using Space Bar to move? I have tried to search the settings and keybinds but Colour Picker is set to the key "i" for India and I am unable to find other setting related to this. Problem: I am experiencing an annoying bug or feature (I am not sure which) where when I use the Space Bar to use the Move Tool it sometimes brings up the Colour Picker instead. This is unpredictable, seemingly random, and totally disrupts my workflow, sometimes inadvertently causing me to change colours. As you might imagine, this can cause major problems on a complex design if the mistake is not caught. EDIT - FIXED: Error was caused by Alt key mousedrag, which is an alternate Colour Picker shortcut that I was accidentally catching on this particular keyboard.
  2. Currently when resizing a selection, the selection resamples the nearest neighbor outside the selection. The result is that a resized image that has edged that have been feathered or blended into a gradient due to the algorithm used to resample when stretching the image. I'd like to suggest that the move tool gains an option to select the type of sampling algorithm used, with one option be none, to permit the creation of variegated flood filled rectangle based upon selection without the feathering/blending effect or utilizing a different sampling algorithm. This feature would be applicable to Photo or Design where pixel selections can be selected and transformed. The need for this feature goes as far back as early V1 days - I've found numerous reports of this problem with no suitable solution implemented.
  3. I have noticed that many times when I have multiple objects close to each other they seem to have a small gap when I zoom out. I just now zoomed all the way in and there appears to be a gap. This occurs both when I have the "Move by whole pixel" enabled and disabled in the snapping tool. Here you can see a small gap when I am zoomed out and when zooming really really close you can see the gap be there clearer . Does anyone know why this issue occurs and how to set up the settings to eliminate it. I know the issue goes away when I export the image since the gap is less than a pixel wide but it is annoying not being able to preview your picture without exporting it.
  4. I often want to do object or layer deletion when I have other tools active than the move tool. For example, I draw a stroke with the brush tool and want to delete it (I could ctrl+Z, but that's not the point). Similarly, if I have objects already selected in the layers panel and I have a brush tool active, I can't do boolean operations. Since I always use hotkeys, this gets annoying, because I also have to check which tool I have active if the software doesn't what I expect it to do (perform the operation I pressed the hotkey for). So please look into adding operations outside of the move tool. This mostly applies to Affinity Publisher and Designer (basically the vector based tools).
  5. Hello, I'm not sure if I changed something by mistake or it's a default since the latest update. Using the MOVE TOOL and click on one of my assets on the canvas, used to select the top FOLDER instead of what's inside (I have many folders inside folders per asset). I used to Ctrl + Mouse Click to select specific / individual SHAPE INSIDE a folder. Now - when I use the MOVE TOOL it will select the specific shape inside all the FOLDER hierarchy, and that's really hard for me to select specific folders instead of specific shapes. I just double checked in Affinity Designer v1 and this is how I prefer v2 to work as well... Did I change something by mistake? (I would like to know what I did to change this) How can I bring the way it was before to be my default? Thanks ahead 🙏
  6. Is there any way to set the Move tool "arrow" tool (v) as default instead of the hand tool or view tool (H). Normally you just use space bar to move around using the hand tool, for easy work flow you want to be able to edit right away when opening a file etc. and for that the select tool off course needs to be default (exactly as in Photo shop)
  7. Hi, I seem to have run into an issue where Affinity Designer selects objects that are not within the selection window. This happens with both selection tools: 2023-03-10 09-25-50.mp4 You can see that objects were added even though I am not touching the object and I am even outside its bounding box. 2023-03-10 09-26-33.mp4 This is a file that I exported as PDF from Rhino. Buggy selection.afdesign Windows 10.0.19045, Affinity Designer 2.0.4.
  8. When editing inside a text box in Illustrator I simply used my left thumb on the CMD key to change the cursor to Illustrator's "select" tool, and when I lifted my thumb I could go back to text editing. As far as I can see (and I may be wrong) the only way I can get from inside a text box back to then "move" or 'node" tools is to go to the screen and choose it from the toolbox. Otherwise I have typed my shortcut in the text box. Is this correct?
  9. You can currently resize text frames horizontally by double clicking the centre handles on the left or right hand side of the text box. The same goes for vertical resizing. I would like to also have a resize to smallest bounding box of the text by double clicking the handles at the corners of the text box (e.g. bottom left/ right). That would be convenient for example for reworking large text boxes for titles, which overlap with other text frames.
  10. The selection tools do not take into account the orientation of the canvas. As a result, the selection window becomes rather unpredictable and therefore difficult to use. 2022-10-02 15-01-28.mp4 This is on Windows 10, Affinity Designer 10.5.1342.
  11. I would like to be able to switch to the move tool from right within the colour picker. Currently, ctrl is in use to pick from the document palette, but I think it should be used to switch to the move tool, like in other parts of the software. The reason being is that I want to select elements and change their colour with the colour picker, yet I can't select other elements other than switching tools. This should also be possible by holding a modifier key. This is also what Illustrator does and it makes working a lot easier if you don't have to constantly switch tools (two presses as opposed to one for holding a modifier).
  12. Often times, I find myself wanting to join curves when I have the move tool active. I select a the curves I want to join and, when it didn't join them, I come to realise I need to switch to the node tool, hit the hotkey and switch back to the move tool. The workflow would be a lot cleaner if you could also join curves from within the move tool.
  13. Hi Forum! I have a problem: I want to collapse 2 points of a curve, not to one point, but with a distance. I know this function from many 3D programs like Blender or Cinema4D. See Figure 1. Figure 1: Here the problem is shown simplified on a cube--> trapezoid. But this problem is much more general and can be applied to many different shapes! (I know the trapezoid tool!) I always use workarounds for this e.g. 1: I use an auxiliary curve and then align the points and delete the auxiliary object. See Figure 2. Figure 2: Workaround 1: Use helping curve/object (in black). 2: I only work with coordinates. (I do this very unwillingly!!) So here is my question is there a key compination to achieve this? The problem sounds so simple..... AD is such a good program so I can't believe I am the only one with this problem. Thanks for your help!
  14. I have been using the processes shown in a video tutorial by David Straker and one thing that is supposed to happen according to the video is different. The Move Tool in Affinity Photo - YouTube Query - at about 4 mins 52 secs into the video you double-click on the rectangle and show that the selected tool is the Move Tool. However when I do that it goes straight to the Node Tool. Is that a change in Version 1.9 (or even earlier) please? ..... or am I doing something wrong?
  15. Overall performance is good for me, but there is a lag when trying to use the node and move tools with a pen. The node or object selected doesn't start moving until a *long* time after the drag starts, and in that time the pen is a long way from the original touch point. After the delay, the object or node snaps to the pen position. Things are smooth after the initial delay-snap. Other features are smooth as well. Drawing with the pen for example is perfectly smooth and lag free. I am using a Surface Book 2 with maxed out memory, and the latest version of Designer. Having the base attached or not makes no difference. I tried turning off the "tap and hold to right click" feature in Windows and various settings in the performance tab. Nothing I have tried so far makes a difference. Also note that the CPU is basically idle and I am just trying this with one object. This is super annoying, especially after using my iPad for editing, where the same features are buttery smooth. Even editing over a wifi connection on the Mac with AstroPad is a better experience. Any suggestions on how to fix this with a setting somewhere? If not, are you working to improve this feature? I would like to use my Surface Book more with Designer, but this is a total buzz kill for me. Thanks for an awesome Mac and iPad version. I am really looking forward to a better experience on Windows.
  16. I noticed with last upload in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo that now I can select object with Move Tool without draging mouse over whole object as you can see in video bellow, but that does not work for Affinity Publisher, or AD and AP within Publisher. A Friend of mine can not select object in this way in Affinity Designer, it is the same as before, you have to drag your mouse over whole object to select it?!?..Does anyone else have this issue? I mean it would be great if it could stay this, but I think it is some kind of glitch on my version.. Video_2021-03-10_082616.wmv
  17. Using Affinity Photo 1.8.6 on a fully updated Intel iMac running Mac OS 10.15.7 (19H15), I have the following major frustration, when coming from Photoshop: One of the "holy grails" of using Photoshop is that you can switch to "move mode" allowing you to select layers and move stuff around freely just by holding the command key on a Mac (control key on a PC). Sadly this doesn't seem to work on Affinity Photo, or work reliably, and I am forced to hit V or select the Move tool manually. Considering the move tool is mostly used as a "click to select other layers" tool, and considering that I do this perhaps more than any other thing when working with an image, we'd really like to get "command + click = select layer and move always" to become a thing in AP. In. my example, I have various layers and am moving them around, organizing them into whatever final layout I need. I need to easily select the layer without de-selecting the tool I'm using (brush, eraser, whatever). But I have to type V and move into Move mode before I can do these selections. This is one of the biggest frustrations coming from Photoshop. (Yes, I know AP is not Photoshop and I shouldn't want it to be, but I've got 30+ years of muscle memory using Photoshop and it will be to the benefit of Affinity Photo if more users can easily move over and work in the way they're accustomed.)
  18. Using the “Move Tool” I am unable to select any object without dragging a selection rectangle completely around all of the points encompassing the object. Yes, I know one can simply touch on the path of an object but there should be a way to select even multiple objects by dragging a selection rectangle across any part of an objects path. We need a way to possibly use something like “command-drag” a selection rectangle across any part of an object to select the entire object. Example, if there were three objects then we can select all three by simply dragging a rectangle that encloses any part of all three objects at the same time. Just something to consider. Any thoughts? Max 
  19. I am getting a bit annoyed when working in publisher. Say I edit a document and edit some text and then want to move a object I need to click on the arrow/V move tool. Trying to shortcut using "V" ends many times up with writing "V" or creating new text with "V" in it. Is there another better way to cancel / deselect?
  20. Hi, I'm trying to resize and scale the contents of an artboard that I duplicated. I've searched the forum but am only finding posts from people trying to do the opposite (expand the artboard without scaling its contents). In this post: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15756-resizing-artboard-also-resized-layers-inside-of-it/?p=71554 MEB seems to suggest that using the Move Tool to resize an artboard will indeed scale its layers accordingly, while using the Artboard Tool resizes the artboard without scaling its contents. I've tried resizing the artboard with both tools but they both do the same thing (resize the artboard without scaling its contents). I've also tried using the transform panel but that also does the same thing. I've also tried using the Document Setup panel which does have options for changing size and scaling the contents or anchoring them to the page, but these options are greyed out and unselectable. How can I resize an artboard and scale its contents in one go? Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  21. I came to the forum today looking for a way to replace a certain keyboard shortcut functionality I'm used to in Adobe products. Specific examples of operation given below are from InDesign; from what I recall Illustrator is pretty similar and Photoshop is a little different. I only found one post here that was even in the ballpark, so... Scenario: you're editing text. Obviously you can't use "V" to select the Move tool; that will just insert a "v". OTOH selecting the Move tool with the cursor is a pain if you just want to do a quick move and get back to editing text right where you were. The Adobe convention I miss: If you have the text tool selected (also applies to many other tools although not always in the exact same way) you can press and hold CTRL (PC) to switch the cursor to the Move tool only as long you continue to hold CTRL. As soon as you let it go, the cursor reverts to the Text tool (or whatever tool you were using). But wait, there's more. Having pressed and held CTRL, you can then add SHIFT or SHIFT+ALT in order to zoom in or out, or if you add SHIFT+ALT and then release CTRL, you get the Hand tool and you can shift the artboard. When you release SHIFT+ALT, you're back to whatever tool you started out with. It's still second nature to me even after years of very infrequent use. Fast and hassle-free. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see any way to add this kind of temporary tool select modification to the keyboard shortcuts myself. --- Disclaimer: I no longer use graphic design software on a daily or even monthly basis, and for all the years I've used Adobe products, I'd still call myself a noob. My copy of Adobe Creative Suite is v3, so... yeah. I should also point out that I am thrilled at the quality, facility and AFFORDABILITY of Affinity software. A boon for a guy like me who has a few skills that occasionally come in real handy, but rarely generate significant income -- certainly not enough to justify Adobe prices.
  22. When I try to select a graphic element often times the Move tool selects items in the vicinity which are in front the desired element. In this example I have a red triangle which I am trying to select. There are three black lines in front of it. No matter where I click on the triangle I always select one of the lines. I haver tried to zoom in very close to make the selection but it didn't help. The work around is to either move the black line to the side or to the back. Both strategies are too time consuming.
  23. Hey There, I have spent the last hour and a half trying to figure out why the move tool is not working. I am trying to resize. I have read forum posts with the same issues and their responses, but nothing seems to help. I am working on a Dell Laptop (Inspiron 15 5000). My layer is not locked (see picture below) I also included my Edit/Preferences/Tools screen (see picture below) This (move tool) seems like a basic, but without getting past it not working, I am unable to do what I would like. Thank you so much! Sarah
  24. Is there a way to rotate multiple objects around their own rotation centre, without selecting each one? I have a graphic with many (100+) objects, that have to be rotated, and can't really find a solution.
  25. I have Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (latest stable), and I experienced this bug since 1.8 When Artboard is selected and I want to rotate it with "Move tool", it doesn't show the "rotation marker", by which I can rotate it. It appears only when I start moving Artboard with Move tool. Little bug but annoying sometimes, especially when you have lots of content inside artboard! My specs (ask me if you need more): Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4 (latest) MacBook Air 2017 Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (bug comes from 1.8v) Screen_Recording_2020-04-20_at_15_03_20.mov
