  1. [Designer] Hi, Is there another way to convert nodes, other than going to the Pen or Node Tool's Contextual (horizontal) Toolbar, and pressing buttons? Like, shortcuts for: Convert to Sharp or Smooth node? Or Reverse Curve? I already have keyboard shortcuts for Close and Break Curve – whose toolbar buttons are right beside the Convert ones. But those are the only Pen or Node Tool shortcuts I could find in the Prefs. Two related things I would love: - A way to 'pull' Control Handles out of a sharp node (or pop them back in to make a sharp point), via some modifier key(s) with the node tool. (Like: after-the-fact editing of a path, not while drawing it.) and - When you're manipulating one of a node's Control Handles, for a certain modifier key(s) to cause its opposing handle do the exact same thing – i.e., stay in perfect symmetry/mirror image. Including, on a non-smooth node, the control handle angle. That would be _so_ handy! (It's available with 3rd party Illustrator plugins) Thanks for your attention! - pbass
  2. The desktop version of Affinity Photo has a series of helpful Move tool modifiers available in the toolbar. Which of these are also available in the iPad version either as a button, a menu option, or as a multi-touch modifier? Enable Transform Origin (I'm particularly interested in this one) Hide Selection while Dragging Show Alignment Handles Transform Objects Separately Cycle Selection Box (attached screenshot is from Affinity Photo for Mac 1.7.2.151)
  3. Observation In Affinity Designer there are multiple input options using the modifier key for shapes, these include: Holding shift to constrain to proportions (square, circle) Holding ctrl to scale the shape from the centre out Hold alt to ignore snapping Hold spacebar to move the shape (this is not in the tool description at the bottom of the window though). Shape and selection feature parity.mp4 Expectation However, in Designer, I may expect this to work for selection tools as well, whereas it currently does not. As you can see from the video, while using the same sequence of actions, there are things I expect to be able to do from using the shapes tool, that I cannot replicate with selection tools. Proposal My proposal for how it ought to behave is listed in italics below the observation of actual behaviour. Shift does constrain proportions (square, circle) This decision means you cannot use shift to add to a selection. In Photoshop, holding shift allows you to do both, first you hold shift to add to a selection (mitigating the need to reach to the toolbar for this) and after the initial click, you can release or press shift again to constrain the shape if needed. Shift constrain selection.mp4 Ctrl does not scale from the centre > it moves the selection with ctrl + LMB However, upon the initial creation of the selection window, with the selection drawn out, I don't see a reason why holding ctrl afterwards would not constrain the selection to be created from the centre. Alt does not ignore snapping > it subtracts from the selection (which is perfectly fine the way it is) Spacebar does not move the selection that is currently created This should be added to make more refined selections possible and to ensure continuity between the tools.
  4. I'm not sure if this is XP-Pen's new driver or Affinity's new update, but I thought I'd mention it here. The 'tilt' brush modifier function does not seem to work in Affinity on my side (even though my tablet definitely supports pen tilt). I've tried it with numerous default and custom Affinity brushes with 'tilt' as a modifier, and the tilting of the pen does not seem to be making any impact on the strokes.
  5. Would be nice if you cloud add modifier key to delete line(s) between selected nodes instead of deleting selected nodes when press the Delete key without using "Break Curve" and select separated curve before delete. Lot of users from Illustrator are confused with current workflow, so this could make easier for them to adapt to Affinity
  6. When using Affinity Photo (or Designer) for illustration or digital painting, there are two features that I use super often - the brush moodier shortcut (ctrl+alt+drag left/right) and canvas rotation. The issue is that the direction of the shortcut changes to the rotation angle of the canvas, meaning I keep accidentally changing the hardness of the brush instead of thew size while working. It would be great to have this shortcut act independently and irrespective of the angle of the canvas, so that dragging left or right still affects the size of the brush, regardless of how much my canvas is rotated. As an example, if I've rotated my canvas by 90 degrees, dragging left/right changes the hardness instead of the size as it usually would when the canvas isn't rotated. When working fast, it's incredibly difficult to keep track of how much the canvas is rotated to be able to use the shortcut properly. *PS. A dedicated rotation tool for freely rotating the canvas would be an amazing addition to Affinity! 😉
  7. The Place Image Tool is very handy but it lacks one essential thing: to be able to CROP the image by holding a modifier key, say ⌘-Shift I know this is possible with the Picture Image Tool but that is too much workaround
  8. I'm happy to see there is a way to change the brush size and hardness using the combination of ALT+Left/Right click. But I find that's just too complex. I'd be much better if it was just ALT+Right Click.
  9. Using Affinity Photo to do some production work for MaxPreps Photography which requires a specific crop size and DPI. I'm realizing Affinity Photo is missing 2 important UI Behaviors: 1 - Crop Tool (C) doesn't adhere to any modifier key to keep it's aspect ratio. Ideally holding the Command or Shift Key would keep the scale proportional as you resize. 2 - If you specify a crop size you have an obnoxious user interface that turns the dark mode numeric box into a white box, but you don't automatically highlight the text. Often times I just want to click into the field and type a new number, but your UI requires that I click into the field, drag select all the text, hit the delete key and then type in my new value. UGH! I've been really happy with the stability and quality of Affinity Photo and believe that some focused user research on optimizing for user performance would give you the traction you need to attract serious customers who would use your tools daily.
  10. Does the layer list get activated when the mouse cursor moves above it? If so, what would people like the idea to be able to assign Ctrl, Alt or Shift as modifiers to mouse wheel, to be applied to that list? Functions like: Ctrl+Wheel = Move Selected layer up/down Shift+Wheel = Select layers up/down Alt+Wheel = Change layer transparency/mode Other functions to enable with modifiers could be like: wheel Up = Show layer wheel Down = Hide layer wheel Up = Select widget tabs right wheel down = Select widget tabs left
  11. Especially with the stroke width slider I would like to constrain the selection to whole numbers, or predefined common values. I guess I am used to Xara where it is a drop-down offering None, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4 etc. At present I drag and end up with a value like 1.3 which I then have to modify by hand (typing). Perhaps constraining to whole numbers if pressing Shift while dragging? Or do it the opposite way around (like the Zoom slider in Navigator Panel) where there are fixed stops that the slider snaps to, but holding Alt disables the snapping?
  12. Photoshop has a pretty elegant and consistent solution for modifier key usage in a majority of their tools: shift to constrain ratio, alt to modify around centre / origin, ctrl to modify specific points, warp selections etc. also with sensible default options for snapping and edge magnetism None of this seems to be a default or perhaps even possible thing in Affinity Photo as far as I can tell? For example, using the crop tool in Photoshop, it magnetises to the edges of the canvas and allows for the aforementioned modifier keys to constrain as described. Such a thing in Affinity seems like a chore and if the potential to do this is there and I just haven't found it, then it should be a default regardless in my opinion. Thoughts?
  13. According to this thread, holding down the Shift key while dragging on any of the colour slider controls should make the other controls move in step with it, but there is no obvious difference between dragging without a modifier key and dragging with Shift (or any other modifier key) held down.
  14. Right now you can hold +alt to break smooth lines when reshaping on a vector line between two nodes, but you can’t hold, say +shift, to reshape and smooth the two connecting points (basically the reverse of hold +alt). I find when converting artwork into vector, I’ll have more corner points that I want to smooth quickly by just reshaping the line(s). Or, artwork conversion creates a one handle node, so something like hold +control or +shift while reforming a line to form corresponding points to smooth would be wonderful. Right now, if the nodes only have one handle, broken handles (non-smooth) or no handles (corner point), I would select the line to form a handle (if it's missing), then select that point(s) until it formed a smooth node. It would be really efficient to just have a modifier key like +shift while reshaping the actual line to quickly form smooth both connecting points.
