  1. This is a feature that has likely already been requested to be added, but I searched the forums and didn't notice anyone posting this same sort of request. In CC 2019, a REALLY nice gradient feature got added to Illustrator called the Freeform Gradient. The way you use it is you add different points for the gradient to follow. You can make them different colors, make gradient paths using points, and even adjust how much those colors spread from those points. Unfortunately, Designer doesn't have this feature yet and I would really like to see it implemented soon because it seems like such a nice way to make gradients. There are also gradient meshes, but it seems like Designer doesn't have these either, even though these seem a bit harder to work with on average. I don't use Illustrator currently, but I have in the past and I think Affinity Designer lacks some of the features that Illustrator does. There are a couple more things that I can think of that I don't see an option for in Designer, but there is one for in Illustrator. I can make 1 or 2 separate posts about those, though.
  2. 1. When creating a curve and placing text on it - I should be able to select which side of the curve I want the text to be placed on, depending where I click the cursor. The text gets placed on a default side, then I have to use the sliders to force the text on the side I want it. 2. Warping text - This is not a part of the artistic text tool. There is this “Warp Group>Mesh” tool I have used before but I would say it is very effort heavy to adjust all of the points individually. Also it automatically creates a new group with way too many layers, making the process messy. The program has crashed multiple times while using that Warp Group>Mesh feature specifically. It's also difficult to find inside the program. I would love to see a "warp text" tool that is not overly sensitive.
  3. I am trying to uncurl this photo and then crop it. It was photographed from a scrapbook and sent to me by an old friend. I tried using the Mesh Tool without much luck, and the Perspective tool with even less. Is it even possible to do this without distorting the images beyond recognition? Thanks!
  4. How can I create in Designer, the equivalent of the "Envelope" feature which used to exist in Serif DrawPlus? I understand the Node tool works on shapes, but it does not seem to work on text. Please advise. Thanks, AC
  5. Hi! I wanted to let you open this thread to support the request, I think that although there are many things that could be added, one urgent one is the mesh or wrap (deformation) that allows you to deform an element, maybe also the perspective option, since it is a little complicated to have to adjust the isometry just to achieve a certain perspective. Let's say you have just edited a logo and you want to adapt it to a screen but you need to adjust each tip or deform it to adapt it to a cylindrical base, it would be good to have this tool at hand since it becomes cumbersome to create perspectives for the logos or graphics texts. greetings Deformation Wrap Perspective Regards! and thanks for the great software!
  6. @MEB This is not only about using gradients. It's about dropping a long flat shadow. Regardless of the gradient. It would be great if Affinity Designer can generate such a shadow shape from another shape (or group or text). Or a FX. Maybe an option for Outer Shadow or a complete new entry to cast such long shadow.
  7. Hi, A client sent me a pdf file to work with. One of the pages opens with no problem. The other has a mesh like a pattern from a fabric and affinity designer just opens a red immage. In my pdf reader its fine. Does anyone know what is happening? I already made a repair to the program but not changes. Update: I printed the file with a PDF printer and was able to open the file as an image. Not ideal solution. Does anyone have some idea of what is happening and how to resolve it? I spent 2 days back and forth with the client cause they didn't understand why I was seeing a red image. teste.pdf
  8. So far, so very good. anyone know if there's a gradient mesh tool or something similar? I notice when opening illustrator files, which it does perfectly, designs with a gradient mesh open without the gm. Thank you.
  9. Hello Everyone, Well i know this have been asked for long time by many but also wanted to add my request into the long long list How come Affinity Designer can't do this kind of simple stuff Inkscape can do using it's interpolate extension and Ai can do with it's tool ? i mean, i'm not asking affinity to be like Ai nor Inkscape but the mesh you will see attached here was created in less than 30sec on a very old laptop running Linux Fedora 29 beta with inkscape installed. Please guys not only this tool but make it happen with more tools straight from your Knight Bag, make me smile like you did with the new thing you have added to the pen tool of APublisher thus making it 10 times better than the Pen tool implemented into ADesigner ... Well this one still need to grow to where APub stand but ... get it done guys and ... make me smile. BTW it's free to use for anyone who feel it may be of interest both Personal & commercial, the SVG you can use to recolor with ADesigner or APhoto. Enjoy ! drawing.svg
  10. I attached a screenshot below. My question is - how do I manipulate text like the picture to curve/warp only the bottom or top part of the text? I understand that I would likely have to convert the layer to curves. But after that, what would I do to keep the top of the text on a line, and and curve the bottom of the text as it looks in the picture. The red lines are added to emphasize what I mean. Thanks!
  11. Hi, I am importing a graphic into AD from AI and part of the graphic translates like this: The lower two images are what it looks like when the object is selected. Any ideas on how to resolve or recreate the AI graphic?
  12. we WISH : Setup for : CIRCULAR Grid's to producing circular steps and grid snap. :) thnx
  13. Hello! This feature was mentioned in another (a bit unrelated) topic so I'm creating a new one to highlight it. This is just for Affinity Photo. A Live Mesh Warp Filter Layer would allow for the creation of complex product mockup images with embedded documents. For example, bottle labels or round cans. Thanks!
  14. Could anyone tell me how I would go about taking typical 2D images and presenting them in a similar fashion as shown below? Kinda lost on this one. Thanks!
  15. The attached image is a manipulated screenshot from an old screensaver called Whitecap. I really love aesthetics like this, and ideally I'd love to be able to recreate it in vector. I've been trying to think if it can be done with symbols, but I don't think so. Maybe others have some other idea. Or maybe even a lead on some third party program that could create something like this that I can then manipulate in AD. Any thoughts?
  16. Hi I just found out that software/tool that is Affinity Designer (and Photo). I am an interactive and immersive designer. I am currently "searching" "looking" "shopping" the future tools that I want for my workflow and pipeline. One of the only thing that can stop me to buy Affinity Designer is if we can't do this: import Maya or Maya LT models to colorize and texture them in Affinity Designer (or/and Photo), my goal is to reduce the number tools that I need to work with. So if Affinity Designer can be good for UX/UI design, concept art and 3D model texturing and colorization than I'll be more than happy to say goodbye to Adobe. Thank You
  17. I'm trying to create a low-poly picture in AP, and can't figure out how to draw my polygon mesh, fill it with the colors I want, and then make the mesh itself disappear. I've been sampling from the layer below that contains the actual image, and then using that color to fill in the polygon of the layer above. My problem is, that when I do this I can't separate the fill color from my drawn polygons, but without the drawn polygons I can't fill. Any tips would be appreciated on this.
  18. Vic Asecas on our Facebook page asked about creating a long shadow, it would be good to have in future. Here's the example effect Vic wants to achieve: When I had a play I struggled to make it look as good, it seemed to me that the effect can be approximated with dark shapes and a gradient transparency, but the gradient has a straight profile perpendicular to the gradient path. In Illustrator, this effect can be achieved using blended copies of objects that go from e.g. 20% opacity down to 0% with a blend spacing of e.g. 1pt. Even with a long shadow this produces vector banding like the bad old days, so I'm sure there's a nicer way we could achieve it. Mesh fills would be one possibility, obviously the Blend tool on the roadmap is another, but maybe a Long Shadow layer effect/tool is another possibility?
  19. The mesh tool is very good at what it does, stretch and pull in whatever direction you need, BUT it fails at the end when you apply the transformation. Take a look at the attached to see what I mean. The image gets cropped for no apparent reason. Please fix!
