  1. Coming from 20+ years using Adobe Flash as my vector editor, I have difficulty with a few concepts in Affinity Designer that are way more complicated than I was expecting. Maybe I haven't figured this out yet, but: - why can't I just merge stacking vector layers into a single shape? Not as various objects in a layer, but joined together as one single shape? - why can't I just select a line-section between two anchorpoints an delete it? (break curve doesn't seem to be the solution for this...) Also I miss options like expand and contract fills(?) Maybe this is part of me getting to know Designer, but for me these are basic features for a vector based editor...
  2. The Stacking option under File->New Stack etc. is great, what I really wish for though, would be the option to do this with already loaded layers and also the stacking tool taking any masking into account. This is vital when stacking milkyway images, since it usually aligns to the foreground and not to the stars, which can be compensated for when you mask out the foreground. Cheers
  3. Hi there, I have multiple files and I want to join them together now. I can't copy and paste, or anything else. Merge files isn't possible or am I missing something? I work on different files so the software doesnt fill the ram to quickly (only 4gb). Now i want to join all the pages to create a single pdf and I don't know how to do it. Thanks edit: please change this to the discussion forum. Didn't notice that i posted on bugs.
  4. I purchased Affinity Photo for multi-layered pixel art creation, but I'm finding that I cannot use the Merge Layers or Rasterize layer features because they automatically choose a filtering algorithm which causes blurring. How can I fix this? This currently is a deal-breaker for me unfortunately. I've tried the following: Using Nearest rendering in the Performance settings (this causes everything to look as I expect on the canvas while editing the document, but the blurring problem occurs as soon as a multi-layer document is merged, exported/flattened, or a layer is rasterized) Choosing Nearest filtering during PNG export. For some scenarios this appears to work around the issue, but for general purposes it's not a solution since I frequently need to be able to merge selected layers together as part of my workflow without exporting the entire document I still cannot find any way to merge layers or rasterize selected layers using Nearest filtering. The result is that my artwork frequently is distorted/blurred from what I'm seeing in the on-screen canvas/display. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide
  5. This subject is being discussed in two other threads. But in each case, the discussion has shift towards peripheral considerations, leaving no chance for the initial question to be answered. I voluntarily put here no links to those threads in order to prevent readers to be parasitised by pheripherical and noisy considerations. What should be strictly discussed here : The "Merge Down Layers" (Ctrl+Shift+E) , a very common frequently used command, in some case (see details below) currently corrupts the image: contents of merged layers are blurred. Question: is there a good functional reason for this function to work so, knowing there's a simple way (doing a rasterization of the bottom layer before merging) to achieve the expected result : a merge that simply preserve the data of each layer ? Or is there currently an option to be activated to achieve in any case automatically the expected result ? Details : afphoto file attached to reproduce the bug reproduced in : 1.6.5.135 and Beta on Windows 10 and 1.6.11 on macOS Sierra reproduced with "Force Pixel Alignment" or "Floating point coordinates" options on and off: those options are no way a solution to this problem. a simple way to reproduced the bug with two pixel layers is to apply a transformation on the bottom layer before merging (note: by doing so, coordinates of the layer are no more integer ones) a simple way to prevent it : rasterize the bottom layer before merging For many users, the current behavior of the merge function is a fondamental problem (you can corrupt your work with one click if you're not aware). We would be glad to have an answer to the question above or the function to be fixed. Cos there is no technical limitation considering our use (it may not be elegant, but the merge function could simply process a rasterize operation before applying, which is the manual action required currently if you want to preserve the quality of your image). PS: actually, there's a video that illustrates this tricky behavior here Demo . See the seventh post
  6. I am creating a nebula backgroud. The affinity image is looking good, but when i try and export the image or merge the bottom but one layer I get something totally different. Nothing appears to allow me to get the 1st image
  7. I am having problems with Stack Merge ... showing what appeared to be alignment problems but it looks more like ‘leakage’ through upper layers. I’m using 6 image from a tripod at varied distances ... at f2.8. (NOTE: A one-shot F16 captures fine, shown below, without the leakage.). Here are comparable images ... look for the leaf leakage in the second shot, in the black vertical rail posts, with background leafs showing through. What’s happening here? How to correct it? Program bug or me? This is on an iPad Pro with iOS 12.2. Thanks.
  8. Hi I am new in photography and using Affinity as well. I experiment with my camera and multiple focus points and multiple exposure . I am wandering using Affinity, what is the best way to create a very clear landscape photo with great DoF and to be HDR. The steps I have in my minds is: 5 different exposures for each exposure 9 different focal points then on Affinity I am thinking to merge the focal points first (grouped by exposure) , so I will get five new photos where each one now includes all focal points but has different exposure then I will do the HDR merge is this a right approach ? and how I control/decide the correct DoF (lets say is a landscape or night skyscrapers wig water in front or stars) many thanks
  9. I had a play with focus merge today and was wondering what caused the halo on the top tiny flower [mostly] --- slight subject movement is my guess. Pana Fz300 + remote cable + Canon 250D close up filter + focusing slides (yep cheapo) couple more added -- any hints and tips very welcome . it's it better to take more photo "just in case" or get it right with less photos --- these are 5-8 file stacks as the little sensor has more dof than most "big toys" Damn amazing techknowledge; and pretty fast considering . Affinity Mirroring still fascinates me !! What the computer does is one thing; how the whiz kids explain it to the computer in the first place is a whole different ball game Cheers
  10. One of my tasks requires quickly regenerating a set of images (sometimes hundreds) based on a template. This is currently accomplished either with Adobe Indesign or Adobe Photoshop with Data Merge. I set up a CSV with columns which are attached to layers within the document. There are three options: 1.) Set the Text content of a Layer 2.) Set the Visibility of a Layer On/Off 3.) Set the contents of a Layer to a File Once you have the layers attached to columns and the CSV imported, you can preview each row, set the display to a specific row and export one/all images based on the data in each row. I could identify several more options that I would love to have (set the fill color of a layer) but the minimum needed would be Visibility and Text. Unfortunately, I cannot abandon the Adobe products until I have another way to accomplish this merging of data. I have not found any alternative software to accomplish this merging, so I am willing to bet there is a market for it. Inkscape has a plugin that nearly does it, but it is not implemented well and does not work with all shapes.
  11. I have two Publisher documents that I would like to merge, or certain pages (a whole document of regular pages, master pages or any variation) that I'd like to add / import from one into the other document. Again, any variation on it being a full Publisher document, a PDF or just master pages, but I'd like some way to re-use master pages without having to do a document A copy, open Document B to paste, then back to Document A to copy next master and back to Document B to paste ... times however many master pages etc that I have. Thanks!
  12. Is there any way to merge shapes the same way one would in AI via the Pathfinder toolset for Designer on the IPad Pro? I don’t want to use the Add tool and make everything one shape and I don’t want to Break all of my shapes up by using the Divide tool. I want to merge from the top down. Where the shapes above define the shape below it. Any help would be appreciated. Essentially I want to prepare a file to be ready to silk screen. I want to be able break out shapes based on their color. Is that possible? see the attached images. As an example.
  13. Hey, I have 3 pictures as tiff opened Affinity. Those are all taken with bracketing and was trying to convert those to HDR. I know this is kind of stypid but seems like there ain't option for merge layers as HDR only open as file. It ain't hard job me to just open those files that is true but was thinking is there change to add option for merge layers?

    AD merge layers

Hi. New to AD IOS (and to any vector app) and can’t figure out how to merge x3 pixel layers. Can someone help please?
  15. I've noticed this feature being asked about in other threads and wanted to share my desire for batch merging to HDR in Affinity Photo. As someone who does a lot of HDRI work I've gone through my fair share of different software searching for the best results (Photomatix, HDR Expose, Dynamic Photo HDR along with pano stacking with Autopano Giga and PTGui etc). After purchasing Affinity Photo I've found that in most if not all cases it's HDR merging has the best automatic ghost removal and processing of any app I've used, yet it's the only one without some sort of batch tools for multiple stacks. Currently I am manually sorting through 500+ separate stacks for a project I'm working on and would greatly appreciate (as well as pay for) a means of running these through a script to automate it all.
  16. How to you merge shapes in affinity designer? That's the result i did with "merge" in illustrator and like to achieve: that's the result i got with affinity designer, add and combine:
  17. Since Publisher currently does not support merging I was wondering what sort of options we would have for a workaround? Is there any documentation of the format of afpub? I was thinking I could potentially write a tool to generate a file that would walk a data source, create elements, size them and place them on pages, then apply the appropriate master page to the page. From there I could open it in Publisher and modify it appropriately. Alternatively is there (or will there be) api or plugin support where we could develop such a plugin independently? I am developing a Card game and being able to merge from my content source database (or csv export) would make this a perfect product.
  18. Merge Selected doesn't do anything, either using the Pencil or my finger (three layers selected) on iPad Pro. Merge Visible seems to be working fine. Never used Merge Down before, so can't really say if that's as expected or not.
  19. Hi, I find myself wanting to connect two different open curves to merge them, but so far can't find a way to do this. Basically what I'm looking for is some tool like the binary add-operator for closed path, but then for combining all anchor points of curve A to the anchor points of curve B. Or something like 'close curve' but then with two different curves. Does anybody here perhaps know if there is a way to do this in Affinity Designer?
  20. Is it possible to merge pixel layers in designer?
  21. I need to do this so I can make a pixel layer to add some texture without the various shapes showing lines/edges. I';ve succewssfully done this with the rest of the image as you can see in the attached photo. But those were all single shapes. I made this alien's body in 4 different shapes but I want them completely merged. I thought I could group them and add new pixel layer... but no matter where I place the pixel layer... it's just not right. How do I merge these 4 shapes into 1 shape? Not just group them. I feel like it's an obvious answer....
  22. Independent of "Toggle Source Preview" being ON or OFF, an not wanted/needed Source Layer can not be deleted. The complete Focus Merge process must be done again . May be I am interpreting the trash bin in a wrong way, but what else should it be for...? I also tried to drag and drop the unwanted Focus Merge layer (the blue, selected one) into the trash bin, but this didn't help either... Greetings, Roland
  23. Hi guys I sent 200 files to Focus Merge, 1/10 second later I realised there is something missing. Once Focus Merge has started, it is impossible to stop it. Except you brutally kill it... Is this a bug or an enhancement request? Not sure, where to post this... Would be nice, if it will become fixed in one of the next versions. Cheers, Roland
  24. Hi everyone, I've recently switched to Affinity Photo and am globally very happy with the program. However, I'm noticing something strange: The effect of a Live Filter sharpening layer (any of the three: clarity, UMF, high pass) seems to be dampened when I merge the layer down or flatten the image. The effect isn't completely lost, its just reduced, but visibly so. This isn't a jpeg compression thing, because the reduction is visible there in Affinity Photo, before any exporting or saving. I'm on a Windows 10 system, if for some reason that should be important. I've tried putting the sharpening filter immediately above the pixel layer, putting it at the very top, merging each layer as a separate step, just exporting without flattening... Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else observed this? And if so, is there a workaround for it? Thanks to all in advance!

    photos not merging

I just got Affinity and started to use it. At first photos were merging fine as a photo stack or HDR merge, but now the photos start to merge and then don't complete. Ive tried closing and reopening the program, Ive tried shutting down and restarting the computer, nothing has worked to get Affinity working again. this is the main reason I purchased this program, so I could merge photos! Please help. Thank you
