In my office, I have been using illustrator with a wacom tablet for the last three years and everything works well. But for my personal use, I decided to buy Affinity Designer and a XP-PEN Deco pro tablet, because of my budget. I'm also using a macbook pro 15 2016. If you are on this case, you may see that default settings are not well suited. It seems to me that there is a lot of causes for this. At least I can name two: the entire conception of Affinity Designer with Design and Pixel Personas implies that you have a lot of shortcuts that you cannot find in adobe. it seems that there is not yet a collaboration between xp-pen and affinity. Unfortunately, this companies are behind the reality of new creators in this postpandemic times. Guys, we don't have money ! If you are trying to develop products for us, you need to work together!! Well, I am really far of being an expert, but I may contribute a little bit with you guys, if you are looking for some settings to make things happen : First of all, I am only using settings on the PenTablet application (Version 3.2.3) : Pen Settings: in the pressure adjustement, select the "soft" hardness pen/eraser (this will only works in pixel persona) : customize input from keyboard => E Shortcuts "Move Tool" in Design Persona : Customize input from keyboard => B "Pen Tool" in Design Persona : Customize input from keyboard => P "Node Tool" in Design Persona : Customize input from keyboard => A "Undo" : Customize input from keyboard => Command + Z Default Settings for Space Hand Tool (K4), Save (K5) Show Control Panel (K7) and Switch Roller Function (K8) are working well Roller/Touch : Zoom: Command + / Command - Rotate: Option R / Option Shift R Scroll (by default it is working as zoom): I didn't find a shortcut Brush Size: increase => [ decrease => ] Touch: Mouse mode All references you need to find your own settings could be found on Affinity Designer > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts If you have some other ideas, I will be following this workaround. Good morning. I can't update Designer 2 and Publisher 2 to version 2.1 on my MAC OS. I updated correctly Affinity Photo 2 2.0 to 2.1. I bought Affinity Universal License V2 from Affinity shop, so I tried to update Designer and Publisher from the option "check the updates" but the notice (also in attach) appears: "update error! Affinity Designer 2 can’t be updated if it’s running from the location it was downloaded to". How can I do? Thank you. mauro

I restarted Affinity Designer and tried it again and again, but the strokes won't transform into a path. They just stay outlines. This is so annoying since I need this to work for a logo.

I'm finding when using the Export Persona, saving to a Google Drive location locally, that it freezes and I just keep getting the spinner. I then have to force quit. However, when I use File > Export to a Google Drive location it does not Freeze. Not ideal as I don't get the features I rely upon from the Export persona. I'm on the latest version of the software (1.10.4) and also Mac Os (12.0.1 Monterey). What's going on?- 22 replies

I am unable to start Designer 1.8.1 under Mac OS X 10.8.5. The splash screen comes up for about 78 seconds then disappears; no loading beyond that. Crash report attached. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Affinity Designer_2020-02-28-140633_MacBook-2.crash

Hello, I wonder if someone can help me. I'm running Affinity Publisher on a Mac. I have a 52 page document mostly of text and a few images. I have a two-page master document set up with four columns along with various character styles etc. Anyway, I have set the layout as I'd like it but I now need to add two pages at the start of the document. However, when I do this I have some curious behaviour going on... firstly, when I add two pages, Publisher adds three. Secondly, when I do this, the column threads get crossed over - What I mean by that is this: If we assume that, from left to right, the columns are 1, 2, 3 and 4 and the text flow should be from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4. Well, when I add the two pages (but three are added) the text flow is 2 to 1 to 4 to 3 and then on to the next page... What am I doing wrong?! All advice gratefully received. Edward -
Hi- I've searched and didn't find a question similar to this, I'm hoping someone can help I'm trying to format pages for a mini-binder (which is just an 8" x 11" cut in half) I need the printed pages to be: two pages on each 8" x 11" paper double-sided & printed without the standard size of page borders When I print from Affinity, or when exporting to a PDF- there is thankfully no issue printing single pages without a border- ...but once the dual-layout option is selected, suddenly large borders are included, and I haven't found a way of disabling them I'm attaching two images, the first is the regular-sized which works great; The second is the 2-page layout, where the pages shrink ( I've considered resizing the pages in affinity publisher, and rearranging/reformatting each pair - but realistically with 100+ pages, that would take a long time to do manually. I bought Affinity Publisher literally for this purpose, so I'm seriously hoping there's a solution, any help is appreciated! ) also: I love the ease of the typography window! The tables I'm working with have a lot of fractions - (the computer only recognizes the "regular" fractions, like 1/2, 3/4, etc. however; When I try to use the fractions checkbox on a two-digit denominator, it no longer recognizes it as a fraction (example being 1/16 won't turn into a fraction - the program also won't allow me to use superscript / subscript to create the fraction myself - really hoping this is possible with affinity since it's crucial to what I'll be publishing)

I made an erroneous edit to an extant file, and as a result one hyperlink of several included an impossible URL. This did not show up in preflight at all, but caused an "Export Failed at xxx/xxx/xxx/filename" dialogue. I think hyperlink resolution should be part of a typical preflight, especially if it's critical stop issue enough to cause an export fail. -

Hello, I'm experiencing huge lag in exports. I've been using Afinity Designer in my daily workflow for the last three years or so and have never never experienced anything like this. Let me know which other logs would help identify the bug. I'd like to avoid an entire reinstall if at all possible. I've included crash log output from the second crash when the export was hung for over two minutes without a progress bar. Also, please note that the export itself was only an .eps file that was a pure vector file and pretty small size (2,000 x 2,000 px). Affinity Designer_2020-10-22-175017_ghostmini.crash

Hello developer, First of all, thank you very much for developing this software, which has provided strong help for my work. However, in recent use, we have found a place that may be worth optimizing. I purchased the affinity designer Mac OS version. In designer role mode. When editing text (T), sometimes i want to cancel the typo and re-enter it. i will habitually use ESC to cancel the entered content. At this time, our app application, ESC, inherits the response first, so it exits the "edit text status" directly, and the input box of the input method still stays in the canvas. and If you continue to use carriage return, this part of the content will be inserted into the text (T) content. It doesn't feel smooth. It is hoped that this problem can be optimized in future iterations. thank you😀 -
Good afternoon, I am new to Affinity Designer and I am trying to design a logo for my business. I have been using Youtube video tutorials to help with most of the basic things but when trying to edit text, I am unable to locate the Character and Paragraph options in my toolbar. Should they already be there or do you need to add them manually? For example, below is a screenshot of the tutorial I am watching. and below this is my screen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Our workflow: Several people draw plans in ArchiCAD and export them on the server, always in the same place using the automatic ArchiCAD Publisher. Someone creates the documentation in publisher with all the plans as PDF links that are constantly updated. The problem: As soon as a PDF is linked in publisher, ArchiCAD can no longer overwrite it (file cannot be calculated). This was never a problem in InDesign and ArchiCAD showed the same message if the PDF was open or someone had selected the PDF in the Finder. So it looks like the publisher is "selecting" all PDFs links all the time. Is there a workaround for this (without embedding the PDF)? Or can the software manage the links differently in the future? -
Hi All, I've been following this thread as I have ran into similar issues. After updating to Affinity Designer 1.8.1 my PDF exports tripled in size and text was no longer selectable. Just updated to 1.8.2, I can get file size down, but am still not able to get selectable text on the PDF export. Any suggestions? -
Hi all, Thanks for taking a moment to read. Sincere apologies if I have posted in the wrong area - I'm entirely new here! I had been working on the 1.8.0.55-something beta and migrated over to 1.8.0 yesterday (and 1.8.1 this morning) and since the change, my PDF export file sizes have increased dramatically. Before the switch, my PDF was exported as "PDF for export" at 144 DPI and it was around 30 MB. It's a 116 page document. Now, even if I use PDF small size at 72 DPI, it's 120 MB. Not to mention the export takes minutes instead of seconds. The PDF is 10% larger than the AFPUB. Colour me confused! I have experimented with different settings and I can't seem to get the file size back down to something manageable. I think it might be an issue of my lack of understanding but I'm just not sure. I've done my best to resolve it on my own through forums and tutorials but I'm coming up empty. Any guidance that could be offered would be most appreciated. March_Catalog_Working_File.afpub -
Nik Collection just prompted me to install an upgrade to version 2.3.0.0. I am on Affinity Photo 1.7.3 and I want to avoid another disaster like what we experienced about a year ago with Nik just bombing on Affinity Photo. That was only changed when the finger pointing and shoulder shrugging caused a user community sh*t storm. However, I don't have time for the same thing this time around. Can anybody tell me if this is compatible BEFORE I install the upgrade, please? If it is not compatible, when can we expect it to be? Thanks. PS. I am on Mac OS Catalina. -
Minor niggle but a bug. The Reopen Document(s) on Startup doesn't work with the latest betas on Mac OS 1.7.0.134 & 135. I tried various options such as selecting the function off and re-launching and then selecting the option on and re-launching Affinity.

Hi everybody, without doing any obvious changes to my system or settings the following has been happening for a couple of days: Whenever I try to open a file from the Mac OS Fotos Mediathek in Affinity Photo using the "Edit in Affinity Photo"-function of the Mac OS Fotos-App, the following message pops up in Affinity Photo: Failed to open file /Users/XXX/Library/Group Containers/6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs.extensions/intermediates/Apple Photos Document.afextensiondocument The file type is not supported. Opening files in Affinity using "File > open > Media > pictures" works properly, but I want to be able to send my pictures directly from the Fotos-App to Affinity, edit and directly send them back to the Fotos-Mediathek. The problem started on the Macbook a couple of days ago, while Affinity Photo worked fine on the iMac. Today the Mac is affected too. The repair function of the Mediathek was run successfully, but did't show any effect. I'm using the German version. Thanks for any help. -
I used Topaz Denoise 6 in Affinity Photo on El Cap and they worked very well together. I had to upgrade to High Sierra 10.13.2 recently due to unforeseen hardware problems and now I cannot get Topaz Denoise to load in Affinity Photo. I can't even find the path to let AP know where to find Denoise. I'm totally confused as to which bits/folders/files do I add and in which AP window in the Prefs? Specs: iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Fusion Drive 1 TB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 GB macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 Affinity Photo 1.6.6 Topaz Denoise 6 Help would be greatly appreciated. Feature Request: A black dot in the center of the red "close" button to indicate the current open file has unsaved changes. This is common to many Mac apps. I know that attempting to close a file with unsaved changes will bring up a prompt to save the file before exiting. It is just a convenient visual indicator of the state of the file. It's great that you now have a tutorial app on Apple TV, covering both Designer and Photo. Is there any chance you'll be porting the app to Mac OS or iOS? That would better fit the workflow in my home office, as I the TV in the house is elsewhere. -
