  1. Hello, this is what happens: - I create a local Publisher-File. - I drag/drop a .jpg and a .pdf file into it and put them on "linked" - I open the .jpg file in Preview and draw something on it and save it - Changes appear immediately in the publisher file - I do the same with the .pdf - No changes appear in the publisher file Further notes: If I export the publisher file as PDFs both changes appear in the exported pdf, however the Finder preview of said pdf looks a bit odd. If I open the changed PDF in Publisher it also does not show the changes I made in preview. It also does not work If I make changes in Adobe Reader. If I open the PDF in Publisher and change something and export it as pdf and overwrite the old one, changes are there, but the old ones are gone System: Mac OS Monterey 12.7.3, Macbook Pro M1 2021, Publisher Version 2.4 Thoughts: I think it seems to be a problem with the way these changes are made in Preview and Adobe Reader. Even worse, if I add some Text in Preview, the file becomes completely unreadable for Publisher, giving me an error. If I re-import it via drag and drop, it is there but without the Scribbles and Text.
  2. Hi there at Affinity forums, I created a calender for a "remarkable" or any other device, being able to "read" pdf files with hyperlinks. I realized one or two mistakings, where I forgot to create a hyperlink to just one page (in February 29th). Without losing my already used calender I wanted to download that calender, repair it and upload it again, realizing that all already existing hyperlinks are not linked anymore - of course? - so I am asking wether there is a way to repair an already existing and fully functioning PDF or not? Thanks in advance and Kind regards, Uwe 2024-clock-MY-VERSION.pdf
  3. Hey community, I'm having issues getting files to stay linked in Affinity Publisher on my iPadOS, using Dropbox. When I link an Affinity Designer file on Dropbox with the Linked Services feature enabled and set up, the files don't stay linked at all. Plus, I'm unable to select other artboards within that particular Affinity Designer file. To provide more context: I was able to succesfully link other file types on Dropbox. iCloud isn't an option for me in this scenario, and I haven't explored it. I have tested the recent 2.2 update, no difference in behaviour, files are immediately marked as missing in the resource tab. This issue hasn't surfaced on either MacOS or Windows. There, linking works fine, and I can also select different artboards after I linked an Affinity Designer file on Dropbox. A speculation I have is that maybe when linking a file within Affinity Publisher on iPadOS, it loads the file just for placement and then deletes it right post-placement, causing the link to break. Given this, has anyone encountered something similar or can offer advice on what might be the culprit? It completely breaks my workflow over different devices. Many thanks for any guidance! Dennis
  4. I recently sent a JPG file to a friend of mine and he opened the file in Photoshop. The JPG was exported from AP v2.0.4 (Mac Ventura). When he opened the file in Photoshop, it automatically opened the file in Adobe Camera RAW instead of opening it normally, as if the file I sent him was a RAW file instead of a JPG. I tried it myself on another computer I own that has Photoshop installed and got the same result. It launches Adobe Camera RAW, with a lot of crazy slider settings in the Basic Tab. The original file was a RAW DNG file from my Canon DSLR. I processed the original RAW DNG file in AP v2.0.4 (Develop Persona) and I chose to import it into the Photo Persona with the RAW file (linked or embedded, I forget which). I wanted to retain the ability to go back and forth between AP and the Develop Persona so I could make adjustments in the Develop Persona. That all worked fine, as designed. When I exported the file from AP to JPG, I suspect AP must have written something in the metadata so the JPG looks like a RAW file, which is what caused Photoshop to launch Camera Raw. To me, JPG is an industry standard file format and should not look or open as a RAW file in any program (even AP). The original AfPhoto file format is a different matter, since you want to retain that active link to the original raw file (if linked). Is this a bug? If intended, should it be changed? I suspect so. I don't want my JPG files sent to others opening as RAW files. I exported the file from AP to JPG twice, and will attach both files. One has sRGB embedded and the other is Adobe RGB.
  5. Hello! is it possible to link a text file, in such a way as it can be with images in Resource Manager? what I need is for the text to be updated (loaded from external RTF, TXT or any other text file that is periodically corrected) each time the project is opened in Publisher
  6. I have edited a couple of DNG film scans from an Epson V700. Processing the raw and then developing as a Linked layer. After editing and saving the image I can no longer open it correctly. It either opens with a very low resolution image which disappears or Photo crashes. If Photo doesn't crash, if I try to open/edit the Raw layer Photo crashes. The files have not been moved and the DNG is still available in original place (same folder). This is a screen capture of after re-opening the file (without crashing)
  7. I have a lot of different templates for printing stickers of various shapes and sizes, here is how one of them looks: https://i.imgur.com/9XKj277.png There are two layers - one with the black vector contours which will be saved separately and fed into the cutting plotter, and the other layer where all the PDFs are placed into, which will be used for printing. Then I can instantly replace all linked PDFs there when printing a new job with different files, but the same sticker size, and get a new print file. And this doesn't work in any Affinity programs. I can recreate the same layout of course, but replacing the PDFs fails - they are always placed with incorrect scaling settings and end up the wrong size as a result. By default the same thing will happen in Illustrator too, but it has a setting to prevent this: in Links panel, link Placement Options, select Preserve:File Dimensions After this, no matter which files you replace with, all of them are placed without any scaling, so you can make sure that a 50mm circle for example will remain 50mm. Meanwhile, in Affinity a 50mm circle may end up as 30mm, or 77mm, or whatever else size. Affinity only seems to place PDFs with correct scale when you place them for the first time. As soon as you use Resource Manager to replace PDF, or replace them externally by renaming the files, all bets are off. The problem seems to be that Affinity will try to shove the replacement PDF into the dimensions of the old PDF, and re-scale it to achieve this, thus a new placed PDF ending up with the wrong size. I have not found any way to prevent this.
  8. Occasionally, when I link layer visibility, the order of the layers in the layer tree is changed for the layer that I drag to link in the Linked Layers panel. This happens when one or both layers that are linked are nested inside other layers. The layers do not have the same parent layer. The bug causes the layer that I link (the one I drag to the panel) to be moved outside of the layer it was nested in. However, I do notice that if this occurs, I can hit undo, which restores the layer position while retaining the Linked Layer status. I do not yet have a means to reproduce the issue, see video below. Sometimes the layer appears below its parent layer and sometimes it appears on top. 2022-10-23 11-26-55.mp4 While trying to record the issue, I also noticed that the order of the layers can be shuffled around. Undoing them clearly shows that the bottom layer "Parks" switched order with "Daycare and Kindergarden" that is on top of it. 2022-10-23 11-28-53.mp4 This is on Windows 10, 19044.2006. Hardware acceleration is disabled.
  9. The city scale drawings I often work on are large files that necessitate the use of a single artboard for performance/ storage reasons. If I make several drawings on top of the same base layer (e.g. over the buildings), it would be helpful to link the visibility states of all layers that pertain to a particular drawing. However, with linked layers it is only possible to link two layers together. So I would like to request there being the possibility to link 3 or more layers for visibility. You may say, why don't you just toggle them on individually? The reason is that if I export several drawings, I may easily forget to turn particular layers on/ off during the process and thus make a mistake. As a result, I have to then go back and show/ hide lots of layers to re-export. If I could have linked the layers, that wouldn't be the case.
  10. It may be nice to have inverted linked layer states, in which I can show one layer and thereby hide another. This would ease the showing/ hiding process of layers in a complex document. This request is in response to:
  11. I would like to have linked layers like Affinity Photo has. This would be tremendously valuable for linking layer visibility and transforms in a complex document. I often work on complex city size drawings, which require me to work with one artboard due to performance issues. Given that I make multiple separate drawings on the same base maps, I would like to link their visibility (since layers and effects may be scattered across the layer tree) so I can more easily export the drawings individually.
  12. It would be helpful to link layer states (expanded/ collapsed) across layers. Sometimes you need to edit multiple layers and collapse/ expand several nested layers to make edits in two nested layers. In such instances, being able to have both of them expand and collapse synchronously, would ease navigating complex files.
  13. In the Export Persona of Affinity Photo, I can't see that layers are linked by Visibility. I would like to be able to see this or have the links panel visible there. If I have linked my layers and colour coded the ones that are associated, it also doesn't show, because the Export Persona doesn't show layer colours. So this means that both means I have at my disposal to tell linked layer visibility from within the layers studio are absent... 2022-10-23 11-45-55.mp4
  14. Currently when you replace a PDF file in Resource Manager, a new file is always placed in a wrong size since its scaled to some arbitrary value, so after each replacement you need to manually reset the scaling back to 100% for each replaced PDF. An option is needed to replace PDF files without any scaling being applied, so that scaling always stays at 100%. As an example, Adobe Illustrator has such an option called "Preserve: File Dimensions", in Placement Options of a link. With this option enabled, no matter what file you replace the link with, its always placed with correct file dimensions, without any scaling.
  15. Currently, if I link a vector PDF, it may come in as rasterised: Changing the settings to interpret, rather than passthrough allows me to get it to display as a vector. However, I would like to also be able to change the resolution the document is rendered in after linking it in. If I change these settings, it scales the document, I would instead like to increase the resolution only, so I can use the passthrough mode. So for instance the 581x652 pixels would be increased/ decreased accordingly. Ideally, I would like a DPI change, but not have my document be scaled.
  16. Hi, I just placed a bunch of vector PDF files in Designer (and linked them in the resource manager). It appears that these layers all come in as raster images. Is there a way to link (pdf) files as vector? https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Media/placeImages.html?title=Placing content The manual also states DPI settings for linked files, which is what I am also seeing as part of the rasterisation:
  17. When working on design presentations, I find it helpful to link in files, so that I can edit them and have the edits reflect in my presentation. This also allows me to keep the file-size manageable for large A0 and up posters. In Indesign, it is possible to change which layers are visible from linked Photoshop or Illustrator files. Thanks to this, I don't need to export five individual files that I need to manage separately. Each update to one file, means I have to relink multiple others (if I am not planning to overwrite them). So could we get the ability to change visibility states of linked Affinity files without having to edit the source file? A source file I have is 23 MB, whereas each of the exports is 10 MB as high quality JPEG (which is half the size of a compressed tiff). So this also helps reduce disk space.
  18. Hi, I am using Publisher to make a presentation and one of the files I link into the presentation was made in Affinity Photo. I know from Indesign that I could adjust the layers for linked files, is this also possible with Publisher and linked Photo files?
  19. A really useful feature that would be a boon in a desktop publishing app it the ability to link document files from word processing applications to text frames in the publishing app. This may be a difficult thing to implement due to the many formats out there but certain word processing applications could be supported, as could text file editors. Also supporting RTF and TXT formats would be quite helpful. The Open Document format would be one to support, also Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Corel WordPerfect. Then we could edit the text in the word processing package of our choice and save it. When we load Affinty Publisher our document could then go about linking and loading each of the files from the save text files. A sort of text version of the way images can be linked. It would be an interesting feature to implement which could increase the DTP packages versatility no-end. Maybe after adding a story editor into Publisher we could link the files there aa well.
  20. Hello, In Affinity Publisher 1.8.5.703 I have a problem exporting the correct colors to PDF. What worked for me until October 21, 2020 without problems, now makes mistakes with the same settings. I am sending an example in the attachment. Let's focus on the logo at the top right. Its correct colors are: orange 0-50-100-0 and gray: 0-0-0-60 This was fine in version 02 of my document. In version 03 of this document, as well as in all my other documents, the colors of the linked objects appear differently than the original. The problem is only with linked sources, because the bar in the graphics is the same color 0-50-100-0 and it is interpreted correctly. When I export from document 02 now, the colors always come out badly. I tried all the basic PDF export PRESETS. Please, give me an advice. Or I'll hope it's just a small update bug. version inz_210x148_zdstzdmv_03.pdf - wrong colours of linked objects orange. 0-52-93-0 and gray: 55-45-40-6) version inz_210x148_zdstzdmv_02.pdf - correct colours of linked objects (orange. 0-50-100-0 and gray: 0-0-0-60) Thank you fb-art_CMYK.psd logo_ctverec.ai inz_210x148_zdstzdmv_02.afpub inz_210x148_zdstzdmv_03.afpub inz_210x148_zdstzdmv_02.pdf inz_210x148_zdstzdmv_03.pdf
  21. Suppose I have 2 documents: document1 and document2: I place document1 into document2. As I place it, may I choose to link document1 into document2 instead of embed it (which occurs by default)? If so, may I edit document1 independent of document2 so that the changes may be observed in document2 in real time? (The same way they would if I were editing changes to an embedded copy of document1, but instead so that the changes are actually occurring to the real document1.) If so, I should be able to use document1 as a or multi-document or application level symbol from which I can link it into other documents so that if I make a change to document1, all documents containing it as a linked object will reflect the change (in real time as well). Is this currently possible?
  22. Hi, I prepared some Illustrations in Designer. One designer file with several artboards on it. I place the file linked in my Publisher doc, referencing several artboards all over the doc. Whenever I change something in the designer file und update it in Publisher, all placed artboards are resized to a very small size. What's the problem here? I tried to copy all in a new Publisher file, but this problem stays. That's not what I was expecting... I wanted to reuse the Deisgner file in some Publisher docs (translations) and need to change or add illustrations. The resize is a problem. What can I do? Thanks Jochen
  23. Would be dandy if the Find & Replace in Publisher could also search linked Designer & Photo files (if it's actual text, that is).
  24. Hej there... I'm having a serious problem with Affinity Publisher. I have my document, with loads of linked images in RGB. Now I have to change them to CMYK. But when I do, the images lose their placement and size. They get bigger or smaller, they jump to the left or the right.. (I tried in serval ways- first, click edit document and swich to Aff Photo, format to cmyk..save and boom.. image is MUCH bigger than before.) I have to place each image all over again... How can this be solved??
  25. I tried the mask layer linking that @carl123 demonstrated. The linking of masks worked fine for me. I then tried editing the linked-from-mask, and the linked-to-mask, both masks reflected edits of either. But while the actual layers updated, the thumbnails were updated going one way but not the other. See circle on unsharp-mask mask but not on levels mask. (macOS 11.2)
