  1. Hello, I have a situation where I have ~650 layers, all well named that I need to search through quickly to hide/show for different permutations of an image. Is there a way I can either sort the layers alphabetically to find them more easily or search for them. Thanks.
  2. Hi, I just wanted to share an issue I have been facing since I use Affinity Designer (and the Affinity suite in general). I don't think it has already been discussed on other topics and if so I apologise. I use the Affinity suite (Designer, Photo and Publisher) and my issue concerns the layers order. I'm used to organise my artboards, groups and layers according to their position in the workspace of the document. For instance I put elements that are on the top left of the workspace, on the top of my layers panel. Then I put elements that are on the top right, then elements that are below, etc. (You can find an attached picture to better understand my organisation ). Those who are familiar with the Affinity suite can figure my issue: Affinity apps always place the latest created element on top of the layers panel list. This is a major issue for me when I automatically duplicate layers: the display order in the layers panel and the order of my elements in the workspace are opposite. So I have to take time to reorganise my layers and I'm still a bit frustrated by that. I don't know whether I am the only (weird) one to order elements this way and I don't think it is currently possible to solve that issue. So I would be more than grateful if Affinity could let us choose the spreading order of the elements on the layer panel!
  3. So how I got this idea was I was trying to import some photoshop brushes and I realized some of the brushes had jitter and directional for example and I always wished I could have that in Affinity and there are many other combinations of dynamics that would be great. So the Idea is to Create a Brush dynamics Hierarchy where you can have direction and etc... etc whatever you'd like And I cooked this image up in an hour The plus sign is when you add the dynamics to its hierarchy, and you can change the percentage from the hierarchy window or from the dropdown that is attached, you can add a lot of brush dynamics to one. the number indicates how many have been added to the hierarchy (excluding the dropdown dynamics that haven't been added) the dropdown one that hasn't been added still effects the brush. Mostly they work top-down like templates you can sort, for example, if Random was 10% and Direction at 100% the random would add/subtract to the direction with a bit of jitter. Importing Photoshop brushes would have Direction at top and priority of what it can get from the brushes. Anyways I hope you guys like the idea
  4. When I move an object on screen, it keeps moving it to another layer. I think I'm a bit confused with Layers; The Edit All Layers button doesn't seem to do anything Locking a layer has no effect and only prevents an edit of objects within the layer I don't really understand the difference between the pixel layer and the normal layer. Any help is appreciated.
  5. I don't see how to create a feature (object/layer) that is visible, but won't print.
  6. Hi all, I am having difficulty getting affinity to print photos correctly after editing in affinity. Specifically, if I make an adjustment layer of say a 'high pass filter'. The adjustment shows fine on the screen, but is ignored by affinity when sending the photo to the printer. It also seems that the adjustment type doesn't seem to matter, but what does matter is if the adjustment is applied through a 'selection' tool area of the photo on it's own layer. I have checked through the forum and have found that exporting as a TIFF format and subsequently printing through mac 'preview' does seem to work. However, I am using a high end Epson (SC P600) and would like to be able to take advantage of the printing options within affinity and of the printer. Any advice on how to ensure a layer gets printed through affinity would be welcomed. Thanks. Details are:- iMac retina 5K, MacOS High Sierra 10.14.6 AFFINITY 1.7.3 Epson SC P600
  7. 1. Create a group of several layers of any kind 2. Add a mask layer to the group 3. Ungroup the layers 4. The mask layer has been deleted This only happens to mask layers subsequently added to existing groups. Mask layers that exist before creating the group are not being removed when ungrouping the layers. AP 1.7.3.481
  8. Here's a common operation I've done in the past with Photoshop: 1. Create a mask for a layer 2. Extract the mask as a regular pixel layer by copying the mask channel contents to a new pixel layer 3. Use filters and adjustments to refine the pixel layer (I find that Levels does a great job of uniformly hardening edges, for example) 4. Select all and copy the refined pixel layer 5. Paste the clipboard contents back into the mask channel, thereby applying the refined mask I'm trying to adapt this workflow to Affinity Photo, and I've noticed that adjustment layers can supposedly be applied to pixel mask layers by making the adjustment layer a "child" layer to the mask. However, I'm not seeing the adjustment affect the mask. This leads me to two questions: 1. Can adjustments, filters, and adjustment layers be applied to pixel mask layers, as if they were a non-mask pixel layer? 2. If not, would you consider a feature request to have adjustments, filters, and adjustment layers (when dragged onto a pixel mask layer, thereby appearing as a child layer to the pixel mask) operate on pixel masks in this way? 3. Is there some other way I may be able to accomplish this workflow already? My one requirement is that it doesn't involve re-selecting and filling the selection on a pixel layer; while this is possible, it's far too error-prone in my opinion. Thanks, Joe P.S. For clarity, I've attached a screenshot of what I mean by making an adjustment layer a "child layer" of a pixel mask layer. Unfortunately I'm not sure what the correct terminology is for this is.
  9. Hey there! I have a pretty extensive hierarchy or artboards and layers and I get confused every time I move a layer from one artboard to another: the highlight in the Layers panel doesn't update after it. It just stays with the artboard the layer was previously part of.
  10. I'm trying to fill a line drawing. I have one layer on top, my line drawing set to multiply. My colour layer below. I would like to fill in colour on the colour layer but need it to recognize all layers while doing that so parts of the line drawing get filled in colour. (Floorplan). Anyone have any ideas on where to check the box so it can do this? Thanks.
  11. Hi, I'm not sure if I'm geting things wrong or there is a bug in Affinity software, but I see some weird behaviour with cliping objects in layers panel. See my video please: I have two squares, both the same colour and 50% opacity. Square 1 has 50% through Layers panel, Square 2 through Color panel. When I aply 100% white circle shapes inside them to clip them both, squares have different final colour. The Square 1 has in fact 25% opacity. Square 2 keeps correct colour. Is this behaviour normal? There is no blending option applied on any shapes at all. Things are weird even if I export my graphic to PDF. In PDF the final opacity of Square 1 is as I would excpect – 50%. Thank you for explaning. Mask-Opacity.mov
  12. I'm having difficulty selecting text in a few frames of my Affinity Publisher document. I can only select text in these frames by opening the layers panel and double clicking the layer containing the text. I suspect I have more than one text frame in the corresponding master page when this occurs, but I am unable to find and delete any extra text frames. Also, some layers in my layers panel are marked with a solid orange bar ("A" in the screenshot), while other layers are marked with a broken orange bar ("B"). What does this difference signify?
  13. Hey all. I'm currently trying out Affinity on the trial and first impressions are fantastic. There's a lot I really like but unfortunately I digital paint more than anything else and I'm finding the program borderline unusable on that front. I'm sure there's some options somewhere that I haven't found that can help so any advice would be hugely greatful. 1. The biggest problem I'm having is to do with the layers. When I click a new layer and start painting it'll work fine for a while but for no reason as far as I can tell, the paint will just stop showing on the page. When I select the layer and try to paint, the assistant tells me it's added a new raster layer but still nothing. I've tried using my mouse button to check it's not my tablet but nothing. It just adds another pixel layer underneath the main layer every time I click on it. I have to keep restarting the program to be able to paint again. 2. The second problem I have is the eyedropper tool. I have 2 documents open at the same time next to each other when I paint sometimes. In Photoshop for example I can just select the eyedropper grab a colour from the other document and continue painting when needed. In Affinity, the selected colour doesn't transfer over between documents. 3. The third problem is again to do with switching documents. If I have the paintbrush selected in one document, then select the second document to zoom in or whatever, when I return to the first document it defaults back to the move tool. Sorry for moaning on but I really like this program and want it to be my go to for everything but these problems just completely kill the flow of painting. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
  14. Hello. In "DrawPlusX8" using the "spiral" blank, copying it several times, combining objects and applying the Calligraphic line, I could position the object at a certain angle to get some kind of "galaxy". All the lines after applying the effects in this version are as if separately layered on each other and when turning turns out to be a 3D multilayer model. In "DrawPlusX8" there is a line view. "Calligraphic line" has the setting "Calligraphy Angle", also there are brushes that place textures vertically relative to the plane (for example, "grass"), though these brushes do not have an angle setting like "calligraphic line". In “Affinity Designer”, having done this, I get that all the lines are mixed into a mess on one plane and the effects only aggravate it, and the brush does not have the Calligraphic Line tool with an angle setting (not by pressing or speed) and many other brushes with a similar vertical location but without adjusting the angle. Will such features be implemented in “Affinity Designer”? Can you help with advice on how to do it correctly in “Affinity Designer”? Maybe my actions by analogy as in "DrawPlusX8" are wrong? Thanks a lot in advance. I apologize for my English, the electronic translator translated. For example, I will attach a video file in which I try to create the same “galaxy” effect from the beginning in “DrawPlusX8” and then in “Affinity Designer”. 3.1.mp4
  15. Hi, I'll post here an idea to improve more the Affinity Designer experience, I got this idea while working, when I'm dealing with thousands of layers, sometimes I need to find or access some specific layers in big projects and it's quite hard to deal with it without a way to filter, and I think this example below can illustrate better the idea. I work with 2d animations too, and in this software in the right side as example, they have an amazing way to filter some categories and this user experience can also helps Affinity in next improvements. anyway thanks for taking this into consideration. cheers, Jhon
  16. Is there a way to merge multiple layers into one layer? Thanks
  17. It's just a small bird (Kohlmeise, Great tit), but he has made me a little nervous. So many layers I had previously only in some large portrait illustrations. I thought so a bird is easy to draw, but he is not. Respect, little bird ;)
  18. After scrolling using a trackpad and switching to a wacom, scroll bar covers all the checkmarks. It probably should 'move' the UI elements to the side, not cover them.
  19. I've been trying to find more information on Publisher's layers. The Layer panel doesn't work as experienced in other programs and it's causing a lot of trouble. Can we get a snazzy video tutorial on how Publish layers work. Rather than simply stepping me through the controls it would be nice to know when a layer is automatically created and why, how I should approach using layers and things NOT to do when working with layers. Thanks!
  20. Due to a corrupted file, I've reverted to a previous version (last worked on using v1.7.0.140) and observed something I don't recall seeing before. There's a red striped "decoration" down the left edge of many of the layers (text frames, shapes, curves) in the Layers panel. Where this exists on a group, it is present on each sub-layer when the group is expanded. This is a Master page which is, initially not applied to any document pages. After applying the master to a document page, the red stripes change to a solid red line which is now present on every layer. Looking back to previous versions of this same file, those lines are present there too. It's the sort of thing I'd like to think I'd notice and I don't recall spotting them before. Makes me think this has arrived with 1.7.0.145… I can't find any reference in either the Layers section of the manual or the Layer Panel page in the Help. I also did a quick search across the forum and drew a blank. Can anyone explain what these stripes signify?
  21. This is my first post I'm new to this forum. Ive tried and looked for hours to find out how to save all my adjustment layers to Preset(s). From my understanding you have to save each layer and label it. For example, adjusting and then saving the Vibrance as a preset and naming it. After saving each layer preset on my finished picture and labeling them, I opened up another photo, which I want to have the exact same adjustments. I clicked on all the custom layer adjustment presets I just made but the picture doesn't turn out the same in the end? Even though when I click on each preset (in the new photo that I want to look like the previous) it says its tweaked the same as the one I saved, but the photo still looks drastically different? Do all NOT adjustments transfer over? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way to do this? (and im not talking about the background people photoshopped out, im aware of that) THANK YOU for reading this, this is so frustrating and it makes me want to switch back to Lightroom. (the picture without people is the look i want, the picture with people is what happens when i click on all the saved presets for the finished picture)
  22. Hello world, I seem unable to place page content in between the elements of the master Page, i.e. have some Master Page layer always on top of Page elements/layers, and other Master Page layer always below Page elements/layers. This is easily achieved in e.g. InDesign (and Scribus for that matter), so I am curious whether I am doing something utterly wrong or whether this is a missing feature (which I hereby request). Greetings, --Thomas
  23. So I am trying to create images that I can use as assets, not as a layer asset but as a vector image asset. But I am unable to do this. If I in Designer export to say svg or eps I get them as embeded document, and then I cannot save it as an asset. I have tried searching for this and seen many videos, but it seems I am not sure what the correct search is for this problem. I have tried creating all objects so they all become "curves" but that does not seem to help. And I do not want to raster it as that does not make it vector. What is the correct way of saving this as an object/image that I can use as an asset later?
  24. Hello, I am just starting my new Project.. and try to realize it with Affinity Designer... I've tried to rebuild to Elements I have seen on other Watchfaces… because I would like to use them in my own watchface... But unfortunately.. my skills with AD and my creativity ) isn't that good… so Maybe some of you could support me somehow and show me a better way to realize my too Images.. and to help me improve my skills with AD. One is the outer ring (like in the IMG_4816 and the other thing is the "Tag" (or however you would name it).. Thanks in Advance... With Kind regards from Germany... 25. Well, it seems that I’ll be here very often anyways, I’d like to know how to change the opacity of a layer. Please, forgive me if it is a stupid question. thx so much
