  1. Strange things happen to night after playing with three layers and a mask i version 1.8.4.693. Trying to set a mask on upper layer. AP freeze, after minimized the app and get back the mask is there, but ... I can't remove or doing anything the mask from this layer, and at that moment AP quit without any warning total.
  2. It would be very nice if you could collapse all layers at once in the layers panel. Layers become very difficult to work with when you have many of them since selecting objects expands the parent layer, so you have to scroll back up and manually collapse them yourself. Perhaps you could have it so that layers are only expanded for as long as the item within it is selected? That way, after deselecting an object, the layer expansion goes back to its previous state, which is ether expanded or collapsed. Am I making any sense?
  3. Hi Updated all to 1.8.4 ๐Ÿ‘ well done on all the bug fixes, drawing with the pen tool seems to be working great. I'm just struggling with the dragging layers into vector containers behaviour, weras in 1.8.3 and previous it was instant, now there seems to be a delay which is slowing me down quite a bit - I get that you now have to really move to the right and wiggle whatever you place inside the container - is this by design? if so maybe a colour change to green for the overlay to show what's happening or something to indicate you've achieved the goal - just wish it was as responsive as before which always worked great. It's really getting to me so thought I'd upload a quick demo vid just to check to see if others are experiencing the same problem? Screen_Recording_2020-08-04_at_10_18_08.mov
  4. I have a lot of layers that I own... Can they be uploaded into AP?
  5. I don't understand the "X" frame which appears to keep me from editing some of the objects in the attachments. No problem when the box and text are identified in the layers panel, but not all objects appear there. Also, a red line appears when expanding some items in the layers panel. I suspect this is related to my problem. No doubt this is another not seeing the forest for the trees. But I just completed a 90 page book and am trying to go through and make very minor adjustments / corrections and am expending a lot of time just trying to select an object, text box to make the change. I am able to click on an object, text frame in the layers panel or alternately use "find" to find and select the text or object to be edited. This is my first project with Affinity Publisher and up to this situation it's been a relatively easy to learn and use product. I do miss having cross-referencing, footnotes and endnotes, but I worked around those issues. Thanks,
  6. Hi, I am new to Affinity, having been an ex-photoshop7 user. I am trying to stack some astro photos and I understand the concept when creating a new stack from file images. But in the case you have half a dozen layers, you can group them, but the "median" operator does not seem to be available unless you created the stack from the start ("File>New Stack"). Also, you can create a new stack, then you can ungroup it to adjust the alignment (two layers at a time, upper layer to difference, then repeat with other layers), but you cannot re-group and reproduce the previous stack layer with operators. I was lead to believe the grouping was similar to Photoshops' "smart object". Question: Simply, can I take several layers, group them, and turn them into a "stacked image" as if was created from "File>New Stack", and have access to those same layer operators (median)? Thanks, Bob
  7. I'm a new user to Designer 1.8.3.641 and I have many .ai and EPS documents that have multiple layers and sub-layers. When I open any of these documents in Designer, the sub-layers are missing on both the layers panel and of course in the workspace screen. Am I doing something wrong here? The original doc's are AI CS2 files and some exported to .eps files.
  8. I don't see how to create a feature (object/layer) that is visible, but won't print.
  9. Good Evening Team, Right now I am trying to create a brand mark in Affinity Designer. I have my art board open and I have a simple brand mark in black placed on the art board against a white background. The brand mark has very crisp edges and I want to soften them, so I have added a heavy Gaussian blur to the brand mark layer. Here is the issue. - I want to use the threshold filter on the brand mark layer to round out the edges of the Gaussian blur effect. When I try to apply the threshold filter adjustment on the brand mark it doesn't change the sharpness of the image at all. - If I promote the threshold filter above the mark to a new layer I can change the sharpness... this is all great but shouldn't the filters affect the layers they are on? - Also, if I successfully apply this technique to a brand in black and white I am not able to change the color of the black mark to anything else. - I need to be able to apply these filters to weather and soften the brand mark and then convert the new mark to a path and fill object that can be manipulated on its own. Is there anyway to do this? Hopefully, the images I have attached show the step by step process I'm trying to use to achieve and where I get stuck. Thanks, Dave
  10. Hi, it would be great if you add CSS export feature like CSS Hat (https://csshat.com). I think that every HTML & CSS coder will buy your Affinity Designer and stop using expensive Photoshop :-) Thanks. Petr
  11. Hi to all, Is it possible to select two layers, or two groups of layers, and toggle back and forth between them? When editing photos, I will often put two different ideas on two different layers: Let's say "A" is a curves layer where I've put a lot of contrast and "B" a curves layer where I've put only a little contrast. I want to look at one, then the other, to see which idea I like best. As it stands now, the only thing that I seem to be able to do is to uncheck A to see what B looks like; then uncheck B and check A to see what A looks like; then uncheck A and recheck B to see what it looks like again; ... ad nauseam. That's long and especially any true "toggling effect" (a rapid back and forth between the adjusted images) is lost, because you're obliged to either go briefly completely back to the unadjusted background layer (a third "version" thus), or have both of the adjustment layers briefly activated (a fourth "version" thus). ๐Ÿ˜– What I'm looking for is to select A and B: [Keystroke and/or Click]: A checked, B unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click]: A unchecked, B checked etc. etc. What's the magic keystroke or keystroke and click combination that I'm missing to do this? Thanks to all in advance!
  12. Hi to all, Considering the crickets I heard with this post on the Affinity on Desktop Questions forum, I'm assuming that the following is not currently possible, and therefore posting here as a request: When editing photos, I will often put two different ideas on two different layers. Let's say "A" is a curves layer where I've put a lot of contrast and "B" a curves layer where I've put only a little contrast. I want to look at one, then the other, to see which idea I like best. As it stands now, the only thing that I seem to be able to do is to uncheck A to see what B looks like; then uncheck B and check A to see what A looks like; then uncheck A and recheck B to see what B looks like again; ... ad nauseam. That's long and especially any true "toggling effect" (a rapid back and forth between the adjusted images) is lost, because you're obliged to either go briefly completely back to the unadjusted background layer (a third "version" thus), or have both of the adjustment layers briefly activated (a fourth "version" thus). ๐Ÿ˜– What I'm requesting is some way to toggle between a series of layers or groups of layers. I used two layers for the example above, but as a feature, one should be able to toggle through any number of layers or groups of layers. I would imagine such a feature would start with selecting the concerned layers. So, using the example above, I would select the layers A and B then: [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A checked, B unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A unchecked, B checked etc. etc. Just to hammer in the idea, let's imaging a third layer, "C": Select the three layers: [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A checked, B unchecked, C unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A unchecked, B checked, C unchecked [Keystroke and/or Click] gives: A unchecked, B unchecked, C checked etc. etc. I seem to remember such a feature being available in another image editing program, but can't remember which one (Gimp??). I hope that others will sound in and thanks to the Affinity team for all you do!
  13. It is well known that nodes can do everything about layers(ui). The layer cannot do some of the node's actions. Nodes are 100% compatible with layers(ui) and channels(ui). Make changes to the existing layer(ui) to make it nodey while maintaining compatibility with the original layer(ui). Adobe PS lacks even a true alpha channel(ui) because of its stale architecture. Nodeized Layer(node-ui) and channel(node-ui), affinity will have far more flexibility than PS. Adobe can never do that because of its stale architecture. This ensures an absolute lead in affinity. This node feature does not require a huge amount of new code, just changes to existing layer(ui). (I know that many(Affinity)programs are backends(Behind) based on nodes., so this is easier to do) It does not require changing the appearance of the existing layer(ui). Just provide an option to enable the advanced 3D multi-layer box node layer(node) channel(node) framework(ui). Reference implementation: https://natrongithub.github.io/ Natron (open source)
  14. Hey, I've worked on a vector + pixel job and want to iterate several times on the pixel part. I would like to delete / reset all pixel layers as a bulk operation. Right now I have to select them one by one, it's tedious. Is there a way to bulk select all layers of a certain type? In this case, select all pixel layers?
  15. Hi, I'm new to Affinity Photo - but I really like what I see. I'm a Mac user converting from iPhoto and Aperture - so I'm not familiar with layers, masks, etc. Your current tutorials are great from the viewpoint of showing me what can be done with Affinity Photo and how to do specific tasks - and I really like the professional and clear style of presentation. However, I'm struggling to understand the concepts layers and masks. I can understand that layers are like a stack of photos / transparencies and that masks may allow me to see through layers - but what are the differences between pixel layers, adjustment layers, filter layers, etc that are mentioned in the tutorials or listed under the LAYER menu? When do I use each type? Why would I use them rather than filters and brushes? For the benefit of converts (or stupid people) like me, maybe it would be worthwhile for someone to do a tutorial on the concepts / basics of layers and masks - and how they differ from brushes, filters? Pending that, can anyone point me in the direction of some simple explanations? Thanks :-)
  16. Hello, I have a situation where I have ~650 layers, all well named that I need to search through quickly to hide/show for different permutations of an image. Is there a way I can either sort the layers alphabetically to find them more easily or search for them. Thanks.
  17. Learn how to use the Insertion tools / insert target in Affinity Designer. These tools help you to target where a new object is to be placed in your layers. Cheers
  18. Affinity Publisher newbie here. After working in Publisher with an image that had changed from "image" to "pixel", I found I was no longer able to draw a thin rule around it in the way it can be done with a text frame or image frame. There's always the Outline layer effect, but it does the job only partway. With Outline there don't seem to be controls for how the corners are drawnโ€”they are always rounded. But is there a way to alter the corners using some other controls in the program?
  19. Hello, I have a web layout that I've created using Affinity Designer and I want to export it as a PSD with layers (preferrably editable where possible) so someone I'm working with who only has and knows Photoshop can make changes. However, when I export the layout no matter which preset I choose (even PSD preserve editability) it always exports flattened to one pixel background layer. I'm opening the result in Photoshop CC 2018. What do I need to change so that it will export my document to layers?
  20. # Affinity Photo 1.8.3.641 on Windows 10 Whenever an adjustment dialog window is closed, either directly (Picture 1) or as a side-effect of another action (Picture 2), the adjustment dialog does not reappear when the layer it belongs to is selected (neither single-click nor double-click does work, Picture 3). A, somewhat tedious, workaround is to create another adjustment layer which brings along its own adjustment dialog and then to immediately click on the layer containing the adjustment you would like to change. Of course, there is now a layer you will have to delete. You would have to do this every time you want to bring up any of the adjustment dialogs. I already tried to reset the Studio configuration. I also cleared user cache and settings by pressing CTRL during start-up and selecting all the items. Both to no avail. Has anyone a similar experience? What can be done about it? Thanks for any help.
  21. Hi, I have just upgraded to Designer version 1.6.2 for windows. When I move a layer, either a image or a vector, in the background, it automatically jumps to the front of the art board. This happens when I use the mouse AND the directional arrows on my keyboard. Is there a setting that I am missing or is it a bug?
  22. Hi Affinity Team Would it be possible to add functionality to export all the layers from a document to separate files? (especially in Affinity Photo) We often get multilayer .psd's from our clients containing a bunch of supers and splashes that we need to animate on TVC's, and we always need to export each layer out as a separate image file. In PS there is a "script" called "Export layers to files" but it is quite limited regarding file formats and saving options. So I request the addition of a "Export layers to separate files" check box in the export dialog for all formats. And regarding the naming of the outputted files then it could be just as simple as "documentName_layerName.ext". Good work so far, I'm really looking forward for the official release of Affinity Photo Cheers /johs
  23. Hi all, When working with crazy amount of layers (PDF imported in this case) it is much faster to select the object in the canvas and not guessing which one is in the Layer list, but the problem comes when I select the object and I want to see where is that layer in the Layers panel, is there any shortcut or any other way to do this? I hope it makes sense. Cheers, Juan
  24. Have you ever tried to arrange objects in the layers panel only to loose them, and then find it nestled in a collapsed group of objects? Ever try and move an object so it clips anther object and it ends up with an unexpected result? Ever wonder what those enigmatic icons in the layer thumbnails are trying to tell you? This guide is for anyone with those questions. From folks that are new to Affinity Products, to people who has been using it for years and struggled with the behaviour of layers. This 3-page visual how-to guide will hopefully help reveal any or all of the cryptic layer mysteries! The guide is in English for desktop versions of the products, designed the Windows version, tested mostly in Affinity Designer, but should translate well to Affinity Photo and Publisher. I would love to hear your feedback, if you notice any errors, have any additions, and/or let me know if it helps you, please chime in! NOTE: PDF DOWNLOAD AT THE BOTTOM. Please download it!
