  1. Affinity Publisher 1.7.0.139 on Windows 7 (64 bit, German) behaves as follows: The attached screenshot shows parts of the Layers panel of a document page (not a master page). The used master page (plus its own objects) are also visible in the page layers. The master page 'layer' is locked and cannot be selected on the page with the mouse. Fine. If the master page layer is unlocked, this page's master page layer can be selected, deleted (both fine) and moved, rotated, scaled (the latter three seem strange to me). Apart from deleting the master page layer, I would never want to do any of the other things, but, well, it probably doesn't hurt to be able to do the other things. The master page itself is not changed by any of these actions, which is wonderful. But, whether or not the master page layer is locked, I can select the objects of the master page layer from within the document page Layer panel and do moving, deleting, rotating etc. with them, and this is not only page-local, but directly affects the contents of the master page itself. This is highly dangerous, because this makes it possible to completely ruin the master page contents by wrong clicking on some document page layers. I therefore recommend changing this behaviour in one (or more) of the following ways: When attaching a master to a document page, do not only lock the master page layer itself, but also all its sublayers. When changing any object from within the master page layer, do not reflect these changes into the original master page, but work only with page-local copies and leave the master page completely unaltered. This way, it would also be possible to override (or delete) some master page objects at a local page level, similar to what can already be done in PagePlus. Inhibit any transformations of the master page layer, as this seems to be jolly useless and quite unintuitive. E.g., rotating the master page layer wreaks havoc with guides defined on the master. Another possible solution would be to not display any master page layers in the document page Layer panel at all. This would loose you some functionality suggested in (2), but if you don't plan to add that functionality, anyway, it would be better (and much less dangerous) than the current implementation. Of course, all actions must still be possible with the layers of the master page itself - I'm only talking about the master page layer which is visible from within a document page... Andreas Weidner
  2. For UI design, I configure reusable components, which often involves toggling layer checkboxes. I've noticed that my Mac's scroll bars frequently get in the way. So, instead of toggling a box, I fly up or down the list because I've clicked a new position on the scroll bar. I have changed my system preferences to always show scrollbars, which fixes the problem. But optimally, the scrollbar in the Layers panel would be permanently shown regardless system preferences, so that the checkboxes don't overlap.

    Can't find layers panel?

I use multiple monitors at work, so I am thinking this might be the cause? My layers panel has disappeared. I don't know where it is or how to get it back. Can someone help? Am I missing something obvious? When I right click on an item and click on "Find in Layers Panel" nothing happens. Really love using this trial and am probably going to purchase. But I gotta know why it's doing this. Thanks!!
  4. When I, for example select an HSL adjustment from the bottom of the layers panel there used to be preset options show up but now they don't. Any ideas how I can get those preset examples to show again?
  5. I'd like to request that when I select a layer with the move tool or the node tool on the canvas that the layers panel scroll to the selected layer or group automatically so I can easily work with the layer. With lots of layers in the document it becomes a pain to have to scroll to find it or to use "Find in Layers Panel" for each layer I'm working with.
  6. When Option/Alt-Clicking a layer/object/mask to isolate or "solo" it in the viewport, there is currently no visual feedback that the application is in this mode. It would be nice if the Layers panel would display a special outline or highlight the level in a specific color to make it immediately obvious that this mode is active. I don't know if this is a document-wide setting or one that lives in the view, but if the latter is the case (i.e. if it is possible to have two windows of the same document open and only one of them in isolation mode for a particular layer), I'd suggest that the Layers panel always reflect the state of the view that currently has the focus.
  7. In Preferences > User Interface there is an option Show Selection in Layers Palette For some reason the explanation for this item is missing from the Preference Panel > User Interface section in Help. I have tried checking and unchecking it and performing various selection functions whilst watching the Layers Palette and am quite unable to determine what this preference does. It's not life threatening, but the fact that I cannot work out what this does is like an itch I can't scratch. ;) Could someone please enlighten me ......? Thanks.
  8. I am completely baffled as to why my layers panel is missing in each persona in my Affinity Designer apt. I have tried everything that I can think of to recover it. It had such a layers panel when I first started using it, but now seems to not have one. I have tried separated mode, and turned it off. I have tried creating layers, and probably have been successful doing it with the menu. However, I am not sure of what layers there are since I have no LAYERS PANEL. It has caused no end of frustration, and is the only thing that really bothers me about this otherwise excellent apt. Help please. I have attached a screen shot of what I have to work with in the apt. I am getting some work done, but the absence of the LAYERS PANEL is tough going.screen shot of Affinity designer.pdfscreen shot of Affinity designer.pdf
  9. As far as I am able to tell, this facility is only accessible via the contextual menu on an object. My understanding of the intent for a contextual menu is it should only present options which are also accessible via the normal menu hierarchy. I have been unable to locate it there and it doesn't appear to be listed anywhere in the shortcut preferences either. Maybe just a simple omission but it would be handy.

    Cannot delete layer

The forum changed, hope this is the right place to post Bug reports for Affinity Photo RC (since it's the version submitted to the App Store, I imagine it will be in the final build as well). When a selection is active (tested with the "Free hand selection tool"), clicking the garbage bin icon at the bottom of the Layers panel will not delete the active layer. A history stack entry is generated, though. If this behaviour is by design (I don't see why that would make sense though), the button should be disabled and grayed out instead of just doing nothing.
  11. Hello, Could you explain the signification of the very little triangles on the right in the layers panel (see attachment)? I find no mention of this in the help of Affinity Designer. Thanks.
  12. Software : Affinity Designer 1.3.2 (in French) under 10.8 macOS Subject : The Layers panel change suddenly. Observation: I load my document with three layer groups. The layers panel shows a triangle to the left of each of the three names. Suddenly, the panel has changed without reason. The triangle to the left of the group name has disappeared and a small triangle has appeared to his right. It became impossible to develop any group. I can not find documentation on this. Can you explain what is happening? Thank you in advance. Attached : two screenshots. Sorry for my English, I only speak French.
  13. The two options for layers should be accessible from the layer label. Now there is a checkbox to show or hide a layer which is easy to work with. The lock functionality has to be accessed from the top of the panel. It seems more logical to have a locked/unlocked icon to enable or disable the lock state. Of course, having a closed/open eye for the visibility state would be nice in that case. PS: funny thing is that it is possible to unlock a layer by clicking the lock-icon. But you can't lock it clicking in the same spot...
  14. Hello--I inadvertently lost my right hand panel for layers, history, navigation, etc. Can you help please? Context Toolbar is checked and left panel is displayed. Thanks.
  15. I must have closed my Layers Panel and I can't get it back. Please help! Thanks!
  16. The (fx) icon is already there. Just turn it into a switch for turning all effects on and off on a single click, and make it open the Effects Panel on a double click. Clicking on it and sliding down through a bunch of layers with FX on should turn them all off as they're slid over. Doing the same over FX that are turned off should turn them on.
  17. Hi! Designer here. I'm doing mainly mobile application design, often huge projects with a lot of elements on every screen. AD is so incredibly performant that I'd love to switch from PS. To get this out of the way: Thanks for the great work. So much potential! Looking forward to the future of Affinity Designer. Now the three things that would make AD a lot better for my personal workflow, I mentioned them on Twitter and I got told to post them here. So here you go. 1) Show selected layer in layers panel My workflow is based on folders and layers and their position to each other. In Photoshop it's easy to jump to a specific layer in the layers panel by clicking with ALT+RMB on the desired layer. What this does is to expand every folder in the layers panel and jump to the right place where the selected layer is. Sketch solves this by allowing the user to decide if a folder is "click-through" or not. Some way to do this in AD would be amazing. I'd be perfectly happy with Photoshop's solution. Alt+RMB = Show layer in layer panel and I'm a happy chap. 2) Full pixel snapping I described it here. Even with snapping to pixels active, AD doesn't snap to full pixels but to 1.0 and 1.5. Only full pixels would make a lot of work a lot easier. 3) Bonus: Artboards I'm quite sure this has been mentioned in this forum a lot. Nevertheless, just throwing in my opinion: AD has such an impressive performance that it's the only program out there I have confidence in to do artboards right. Sketch's UI for artboards is great, their performance is mediocre. An AD artboard solution would rock my world. Thanks for consideration and sorry if I broke any kind of forum rule. First post!
