  1. Just started testing Publisher (and I absolutely love it). I was adding an Adjustment (Black & White) to an image, then went back to check on the settings so that I could apply it to a new image and the program crashed. Does anybody know if we are going to be getting Macros/Action Scripts? Thanks
  2. Hi, I found that since the latest update the action "Add Layer" always add the new layer at the top of the hierarchy regardless of selected layer or group. The action "Add Pixel Layer" however works seemingly correct, placing the new pixel layer above the selected layer and within the same group. ~Gimmic
  3. Hi, I'm wondering why Affinity Photo and Designer are opening PDF file in different colour than I can see it on MacOS native Preview app? File is package print design I got from client in PDF format. I believe it has been made originally using Illustrator. When I open it in Designer I see extra red layer with blending mode multiply over graphic layer. Not sure what is it's purpose. Any idea what I'm dealing with? Best, Juha
  4. In Affinity Designer I was doing sketches and wanted to mask out a section of them. I attempted to use a mask layer but they are having a strange effect where it looks as is it is erasing parts of my lines. Kind of looks like a blend mode gone awry. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
  5. I'm on Affinity Designer. From the beginning the eraser tool has worked flawlessly to mask parts of layers that I wanted to hide/remove. Suddenly it doesn't. I click on the layer, go to pixel persona, and select the eraser brush tool. Now instead of masking chunks of layer with brush strokes when I draw: it simply does nothing. No marks are made. I've tried with both my tablet pen and my mouse (on surface pro 4) over and over again and the assistant adds the masking layer like it's supposed to, and the masking layer is there as a child layer to the layer I'm trying to mask--as though I have actually properly masked something--and yet nothing is done. It's like it's invisible on the screen. Nothing is erased from the original layer like it's intended to do. I haven't changed anything about the preferences or settings, I was literally working on the same drawing for hours and suddenly the eraser brush tool just did this (became obsolete) and I am not sure how to fix it. If anyone has any advice please let me know : (
  6. is it possible to fold / unfold all sublayers of a layer? It often happens to me that I get the wrong path/curve. Is it possible to grab only sublayers of the current layer? Sorry for my bad english and thank you in advance. Greetings

    Layer naming/renaming failure

Hi, I have a terribly frustrating bug with renaming layers. I've seen this posted before, and the bug was said to be fixed in an update (which has already come). When typing a new name for layers, the text field constantly de-focuses itself – this happens so often, and so regularly, that naming layers is essentially a completely lost function for me. Layer naming is a critical function that I can not afford to lose. It can take me sometimes longer than an entire minute to successfully rename a single layer, artboard or group. I am using a MacBook pro with external monitor. Happens with a wired mouse, wireless magic mouse, external keyboard and MacBook Pro keyboard -- there is no known issues with any input or display device. This bug also happens with the latest version of AD from the Mac App Store, as well as with the Beta. The bug occurs on layers of all types, as well as groups and artboards. This bug, for me, is only observed in the Layers palette -- all other palettes are fine with input. In the attached video, you can see me renaming layers. In this video, the first layer is renamed correct. Then I add another layer and try to rename that one, to show how the chaos unfolds... While editing the name of this new layer, I never once press return to commit the name at any point in the video. The layer constantly loses focus, commits the incomplete name, and my typing fingers then punch random hotkeys... This is incredibly frustrating for work. I am a super loud proponent of AD, I love all that if offers... but this bug alone is enough to ruin my workflow and make designing in AD an absolute headache. Previous posts for reference: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/18336-new-layer-naming/-- Very last comment, it goes unaddressed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15832-bug-141-renaming-layers-broken/-- Caught in a beta, apparently logged but never addressed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/24660-rename-layer-with-obstacles/-- Similar problem, and marked as fixed. I am pulling my hair out over this one. Thanks for all your hard work, -WV affinity-rename-layers.mov
  8. Create a layer with raster data (some image or something) Go to Filters -> Color -> Halftone, preview mode starts (haven't tested with other filters but I'd imagine it's the same for all of them) Without applying the filter or closing out of the filter panel, right click on the layer and click Duplicate The duplicated (new) layer's preview (in the Layers panel) shows the filter preview instead of the 'true' image data. Hiding/Showing the layer resets it and forces it to show the actual layer contents. Layer prior to starting filter: Preview of the canvas during filter preview: Duplicated layer preview: Shows the layer preview with incorrect data alongside the canvas (the canvas is correct in this case) - remains so even after closing out (not applying) the filter panel: And finally, after unchecking visibility, the preview is reset.
  9. Begin previewing a filter (I've been playing with Halftone, start there if others don't work) on a raster layer (that presumably has other layers beneath it) During filter previewing, drop down the blending mode menu and hover over different selections in order to preview the filter with the blending mode The canvas flickers but the blending mode on the canvas doesn't reflect what the mouse is hovering over. However, clicking on the blending mode does force the canvas to reflect the selected mode - it's just the blending mode menu hover that doesn't properly render the preview on the canvas.
  10. When working in the Layers panel, I would love to be able to use the keyboard for certain operations like moving up and down in the layer tree with arrow key selecting layers by typing their names renaming a layer by hitting F2 moving layers up and down by hitting Ctrl+Up / Ctrl+Down (or Alt, maybe in combination with Shift) selecting layers by holding down the Shift key and using the arrow keys afterwards There might be more useful appliances for keyboard shortcuts.
  11. When trying to add a shadow / outline or something from effects on to a layered or grouped item the outline lets say turns green instead of red. Why would this be? I can't for the life of me work it out. P.s. I am a newbie to Affinity products and the forum. Thank you Andrew Windsor. bowling1.afdesign
  12. When exporting a file to SVG from within Designer, for each layer or group having an opacity set below 100%, Designer automatically adds an extra, redundant, group just to apply opacity to: * Adding a group without opacity set less then 100%: <g id="myID"> <rect x="152.01" y="85.967" width="142.705" height="84.033"/> </g> * But when opacity of the group is set below 100%: <g id="myID"> <g opacity="0.5"> <rect x="152.01" y="85.967" width="142.705" height="84.033"/> </g> </g> This results in larger and more complicated SVG-outputs then necesary, but most importantly: it breaks the structure and hierarcy as meant by the designer causing all kind of problems when using the SVG for styling and javascript usages: interactivity and animations. Because suddenly there is an extra, unexpected level in hierarcy and the ID is on a different level then the opacity. That way webdevelopers can't trust the ID anymore. Instead the opacity should be applied directly to the group like visually done in Designer, keeping the structure the same as in the GUI and so meant by the designer: <g id="myID" opacity="0.5"> <rect x="152.01" y="85.967" width="142.705" height="84.033"/> </g>
  13. Hello, I am new to masks and have a question I am really hoping has an easy answer. I have created a document imported an image and then created a mask. I am wondering what are the steps I must follow to edit the mask to make further adjustments as no matter what I try I cannot get into it. Apologies for the beginner question.
  14. I want to create a vector layer from a pixel layer selection. Is this possible?
  15. Hi, there is one thing I miss from Illustrator and it's the ability to attach scripts, or some metadata, to elements; layers or groups of layers. It's helpful when creating interactive SVGs. Of course it's possible by naming layer/group and edit the code of the exported SVG but it becomes repetitive when you open the SVG again and the code is stripped of the additional code. So the option to have some extra content in the code of an element and keep it intact on re-opening or saving the document, would be terrific. It does not have to do anything, just a field to type som extra attributes to the element and keep them throughout the workflow.
  16. Independent of "Toggle Source Preview" being ON or OFF, an not wanted/needed Source Layer can not be deleted. The complete Focus Merge process must be done again . May be I am interpreting the trash bin in a wrong way, but what else should it be for...? I also tried to drag and drop the unwanted Focus Merge layer (the blue, selected one) into the trash bin, but this didn't help either... Greetings, Roland
  17. So I only deal with vector art because I design t shirts and it needs to be vectorized. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.. I’m trying to get an American flag to completely cover or ‘mask’ a figure that’s my original artwork for a Fourth of July design... I’ve tried the “mask to below method” but when I export as a pdf it still comes out rasterized which I can’t have... does anyone know what I’m doing wrong or could help me/ explain to me how add these layers together and have it come out vectorized? Thank you all so much!
  18. I had a issue when exporting TIFF file with multiple layers in Affinity Photo. After exporting, the tiff file has multiple layers in Affinity Photo, but only one layer in photoshop at the same one (attached photos). My customer complained me about issue because they edited tiff file with photoshop. There were somethings wrong from me?
  19. Hi guys If I put a pile of correction layers into a group, the adjustment layers have no longer any effect... Bug or Feature? Appreciate any reply!
  20. I have an Affinity Photo document with many dozens of layers. I frequently need to export one of the layers individually to a PNG (hiding all of the other layers/content in the document). I've found this very difficult to do, as I can't currently find shortcuts to either: a) hide all layers except the selected one or b) directly export a single selected layer Also, I need layer effects of the parent group(s) to still be applied. Which means doing something like copying the layer and then choosing New from Clipboard and then exporting won't work well for my purposes. Perhaps I'm overlooking something obvious? Can anyone offer suggestions on the easiest way to do this?
  21. I'm switching from Photoshop and the first problem I encountered was pasting an image from clipboard into a new document, making a selection and hitting ctrl+X expecting just the selection to be removed, but apparently it has to be rasterized first. I can't see why Affinity needs to default to an image layer instead of a pixel layer upon pasting, so until I can set a preference to default paste to a pixel layer to allow this, I'll be sticking with Photoshop. Program looks excellent though, wish this wasn't a deal-breaker for me (and yes, it is too much trouble to do this after every paste, after 20 years of PS, I'll never be able to change my habits, nor do I see a reason to). I'm not the only one:
  22. Good morning, all. I am new to Affinity and also new to creating SVG files. I feel as though I’ve got the SVG file creation part down. Lol. This is what I need help with, and I will try to explain this by example: Lets say that I import a simple two layer SVG file into affinity. By this I mean, a transparent background (as displayed by the white and grey checkers) and a layer on top holding the vector (as displayed by the shape represented in black so that I can see the transparent background behind the shape). Let’s say that the shape is a black rectangle. Inside the rectangle I would like to write text. Then, I would like to make that text transparent so that it appears to have been cut out of the rectangle, so I can see the checkered transparent background where the words used to be, in the shape of the text. How do I do this? If you could describe it to me in simple steps and assume that I’m a total n00b, I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much for reading my post!
  23. Would be extremely useful to be able to set just a key shortcut (e.g. F1, F2, B, N, M, etc.) for viewing only a specific layer. Why would users need this? It would be extremely useful when tracing images so we can go back and forth between the source/reference image and what we are illustrating/vectorizing. It can be useful for users that draw after reference photos, so they need to see the reference photo instantly and go back to drawing. Why only one shortcut? / You can't just go and put the reference layer as the top layer and hide (uncheck) and show (check) whenever you want? It would be faster and more handy to have a simple one key shortcut like B or F3 that we can press to view the reference. If we don't press that shortcut anymore, it should go back (hide the reference photo/layer). Here's how it could work: So when the person presses the F3 key, it could show the reference layer. Could be also used for Before/After viewing of a design/illustration/painting/image/etc. What's your opinion on this? It should be implemented?
  24. Hi guys, I was working on an image I cropped a bit, then I wanted to apply an adjustment (any) to it, what happens is that the adjustment layer is added but due to no pop-up it cannot be modified. I'm running Affinity Designer v1.6.1.93 Any ideas?
  25. Tone mapping is not working on a single image pixel layer but is working on the background layer. Default panel on the left does not show any images can someone help
