  1. Windows 10, Designer 1.6.5.123 (also happens with the 1.7.0.178 Beta but that's by-the-by). I was experimenting with shapes and noticed something strange, see attached image. The image shows three different ways of doing the same thing (I've also attached the afdesign file). On the left I have: * a black rounded rectangle with a white triangle inside it at the bottom-right; * the same as above but rotated and made smaller. In the middle I have: * a black rounded rectangle, a copy of the same rectangle as a mask for a white triangle at the bottom-right; * the same as above but rotated and made smaller. On the right I have tried to use compound layers but got the same result. I can't seem to get rid of the very thin black line around the shapes. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong, or is this just expected because of how vectors work? Is there a way I can stop this from happening without 'cutting' the shapes up (or making the black rectangles ever-so-slightly smaller)? lines around shapes.afdesign
  2. Dear all, in Potoshop I could use 'Replace content' for a image in a layer to replace an transformed and positioned image. So new image will get same transformation and positioning as the prevoius one. Just image content is replaced. Is there any similar in Affinity photo? Explanation: I have several layers. In the bottom layer I want to replace the image with another image of same size. How can I easily replace that? This step I need multiple times. I need to replace that single image and print the document, then replace the image again and print the document and so on. Thanks...
  3. Affinity Designer 1.6.5.123 Using Erase layer with Layer FX doesn't work when the layer is inside an Artboard layer. Works okay outside the artboard layer, see attached file. Working layers are on the right, left layers are the same but inside an Artboard layer. bad erase.afdesign
  4. Now that we have reached that point of realization,I believe Affinity Designer (also for Photo) should now have a "Clip to Bellow" or "Clip to Layer" button. It should be located somewhere on the toolbar and should work like this: Select a layer (pixel or vector)/Object (text or shape) then click the "clip to Layer" or "clip to Bellow" to start drawing or painting or doing something else in clipping mask mode straight. Not only Painters, Artist or logo designer will like it but ... It will help work faster and clip very fast. Please also keep the drag to below (that one we currently use to clip things), other style of works may need it still. Blessings !
  5. Hello I was prompted to fill out a feature request based on a review of Designer for IPad on ITunes. The Eraser. It it would be great to have a dedicated vector based eraser. One that edits shapes just like the eraser in illustrator. I understand why you have the pixel based eraser masking option. It’s cool. But it doesn’t actually allow me to edit my vector based shapes. And the workaround for splitting vectors with a line is cumbersome and awkward, and not what I am looking to do. All I want to do is clean up a weird shape edge here and there. No need to reinvent the wheel, a simple eraser tool would be soooooooooo welcome. Regarding Layers. Is there is any way to keep the parent layer open at the top of the layer palette and in view when a shape is selected with the node tool? When many multiple shapes (I’m talking 300+ sometimes) are nested inside a layer, it’s a total chore to have to swipe upward with the Apple Pencil for what feels like an eternity just to get to the parent layer in order to collapse it. If at any time I could click the down arrow and collapse the nested layers it would make navigating the layers palette so much easier. Again I hate to say it but Illustrator’s workflow here is so much simpler. My hope/dream is that I use Designer for all of my vector based illustration work. I would loooooooove to not have to use Illustrator or any Adobe product anymore. Please Affinity, make Designer the Illustrator slayer I know it can be! Thanks. best, C’
  6. I've revived a few photos from my archive, using some texture images I've collected -- mostly from legitimate free sources with no copyright issues. These three are of an old trumpet I bought a few years ago. It's no longer playable (and I couldn't play it if it were) but I thought it was photogenic. These three pics have two texture layers, added one at a time, and I tried various combinations of blend mode and transparency till I found one I liked. I think the first one and the third one have something of a nineteen-fifties feel (I was there ) ... This one reminds me of an album cover, but I can't think which one. Do let me know if you do! Here's the first one in afphoto format if you want to see exactly what I did ... 0920z.afphoto
  7. How can I create a unique shadow layer. I think in Affinity is the onlyest way, to coloured and gaussian blur the cut image for under layer? In PS I have the option to create a own layer from the level style. Something like that goes with affinity? In this simple example, it is not a problem, but there are complex scenes of where it would be a great help. Thanks for your Ideas Alexis

    Error arranging symbols order

I'm trying to use symbols to create the scales for a Koi Fish, but I get heavy errors changing the order of the instances. If i send one Symbol to the background, all symbols are re-ordered arbitrary, sending all of them below or above the non symbol objects. after that, is nearly imposible to reorder any symbol, with buttons and commands becoming non-responsive. Also, the moved symbol does not goes to back but to a totally random place. Idem with sending to front. Add to this some rendering artifacts. Same objets used as a single group instead of a symbol works well. Stept to recreate: Create a new symbol duplicate the symbol multiple times (for example to create fish scales, overlaping) Select a front symbol and send it to back, or a back symbol and send to front get invaded with desperation. 9. In both AP and AD, I have created a reference layer (1), placed a photo on it, and lock that layer. Another layer (2) was created and is being used to hold elements traced from the locked layer. The problem, I cannot box-select the elements on the second layer if the box begins over the photo on the locked layer. Even though layer one is locked it get selected. I can also just click on the background image on that locked layer and select it, of course, I can't do anything with it once selected...because it is locked. The question: Is there a setting I am missing that prevents the object on the locked layer (or locked object) from being selected? Seems to me that if something is truly locked I should not be able to select it. Thank -Bill
  10. Hi there! I'm using Affinity Designer 1.6.5.123 (bought using the Microsoft Store) on a Surface Book 2. I'm reliably finding that if I try to drag a layer to the trash using the Surface Pen (not a mouse), Designer becomes unresponsive to any input until I kill it using the Task Manager. The Task Manager does not report it as unresponsive. I'm on Windows 10 version 1809 (build 17763.55).

    Stroke Slider Lag

When multiple vector objects are present in Affinity Designer (greater than 20 not placed in groups or layers), the stroke slider becomes almost unusable due to severe lag. if I place all the objects in a layer or group and twirl it closed, the lag goes away. Is there anything that I can do to fix this issue? Windows 10, GTX1080G, GTX1070ti Affinity Designer 1.6.5.135
  12. Why can I not paint in Affinity Photo? It is as if the program does not register that I am putting a black paint stroke on a layer...or any other color stroke for that matter.
  13. Hey fellow Affinity friends! Have some new styles – fresh of the press. :) Played around with styles today and came up with the idea of the letterpress effects. A bit desdaturated, but these are just the presets. Obviously you can try different blend modes, colors and backgrounds. This is how the four different styles look like if you use them directly on text or vector layers. Use on path-based layers recommended, the effect doesn't show off well on pixel layers … And this is what they may look like after fiddling around with perspective and some further effects applied. Anyways, the afstyles are packed as a zip – have fun messing around! :D Letterpress & Embossing.zip
  14. Publisher crashes when I move a layer to the Pages Preview.
  15. Hello, Is there a way to make AD go to a layer automatically when clicking on any element on the screen? for instance, there are two layers ( a circle and a square ). if I click on the square, I need affinity to go to that layer automatically. if I click on the circle, I need affinity to go to that layer automatically. thanks
  16. Just started testing Publisher (and I absolutely love it). I was adding an Adjustment (Black & White) to an image, then went back to check on the settings so that I could apply it to a new image and the program crashed. Does anybody know if we are going to be getting Macros/Action Scripts? Thanks
  17. Hi, I found that since the latest update the action "Add Layer" always add the new layer at the top of the hierarchy regardless of selected layer or group. The action "Add Pixel Layer" however works seemingly correct, placing the new pixel layer above the selected layer and within the same group. ~Gimmic
  18. Hi, I'm wondering why Affinity Photo and Designer are opening PDF file in different colour than I can see it on MacOS native Preview app? File is package print design I got from client in PDF format. I believe it has been made originally using Illustrator. When I open it in Designer I see extra red layer with blending mode multiply over graphic layer. Not sure what is it's purpose. Any idea what I'm dealing with? Best, Juha
  19. In Affinity Designer I was doing sketches and wanted to mask out a section of them. I attempted to use a mask layer but they are having a strange effect where it looks as is it is erasing parts of my lines. Kind of looks like a blend mode gone awry. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
  20. I'm on Affinity Designer. From the beginning the eraser tool has worked flawlessly to mask parts of layers that I wanted to hide/remove. Suddenly it doesn't. I click on the layer, go to pixel persona, and select the eraser brush tool. Now instead of masking chunks of layer with brush strokes when I draw: it simply does nothing. No marks are made. I've tried with both my tablet pen and my mouse (on surface pro 4) over and over again and the assistant adds the masking layer like it's supposed to, and the masking layer is there as a child layer to the layer I'm trying to mask--as though I have actually properly masked something--and yet nothing is done. It's like it's invisible on the screen. Nothing is erased from the original layer like it's intended to do. I haven't changed anything about the preferences or settings, I was literally working on the same drawing for hours and suddenly the eraser brush tool just did this (became obsolete) and I am not sure how to fix it. If anyone has any advice please let me know : (
  21. is it possible to fold / unfold all sublayers of a layer? It often happens to me that I get the wrong path/curve. Is it possible to grab only sublayers of the current layer? Sorry for my bad english and thank you in advance. Greetings

    Layer naming/renaming failure

Hi, I have a terribly frustrating bug with renaming layers. I've seen this posted before, and the bug was said to be fixed in an update (which has already come). When typing a new name for layers, the text field constantly de-focuses itself – this happens so often, and so regularly, that naming layers is essentially a completely lost function for me. Layer naming is a critical function that I can not afford to lose. It can take me sometimes longer than an entire minute to successfully rename a single layer, artboard or group. I am using a MacBook pro with external monitor. Happens with a wired mouse, wireless magic mouse, external keyboard and MacBook Pro keyboard -- there is no known issues with any input or display device. This bug also happens with the latest version of AD from the Mac App Store, as well as with the Beta. The bug occurs on layers of all types, as well as groups and artboards. This bug, for me, is only observed in the Layers palette -- all other palettes are fine with input. In the attached video, you can see me renaming layers. In this video, the first layer is renamed correct. Then I add another layer and try to rename that one, to show how the chaos unfolds... While editing the name of this new layer, I never once press return to commit the name at any point in the video. The layer constantly loses focus, commits the incomplete name, and my typing fingers then punch random hotkeys... This is incredibly frustrating for work. I am a super loud proponent of AD, I love all that if offers... but this bug alone is enough to ruin my workflow and make designing in AD an absolute headache. Previous posts for reference: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/18336-new-layer-naming/-- Very last comment, it goes unaddressed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15832-bug-141-renaming-layers-broken/-- Caught in a beta, apparently logged but never addressed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/24660-rename-layer-with-obstacles/-- Similar problem, and marked as fixed. I am pulling my hair out over this one. Thanks for all your hard work, -WV affinity-rename-layers.mov
  23. Create a layer with raster data (some image or something) Go to Filters -> Color -> Halftone, preview mode starts (haven't tested with other filters but I'd imagine it's the same for all of them) Without applying the filter or closing out of the filter panel, right click on the layer and click Duplicate The duplicated (new) layer's preview (in the Layers panel) shows the filter preview instead of the 'true' image data. Hiding/Showing the layer resets it and forces it to show the actual layer contents. Layer prior to starting filter: Preview of the canvas during filter preview: Duplicated layer preview: Shows the layer preview with incorrect data alongside the canvas (the canvas is correct in this case) - remains so even after closing out (not applying) the filter panel: And finally, after unchecking visibility, the preview is reset.
  24. Begin previewing a filter (I've been playing with Halftone, start there if others don't work) on a raster layer (that presumably has other layers beneath it) During filter previewing, drop down the blending mode menu and hover over different selections in order to preview the filter with the blending mode The canvas flickers but the blending mode on the canvas doesn't reflect what the mouse is hovering over. However, clicking on the blending mode does force the canvas to reflect the selected mode - it's just the blending mode menu hover that doesn't properly render the preview on the canvas.
  25. When working in the Layers panel, I would love to be able to use the keyboard for certain operations like moving up and down in the layer tree with arrow key selecting layers by typing their names renaming a layer by hitting F2 moving layers up and down by hitting Ctrl+Up / Ctrl+Down (or Alt, maybe in combination with Shift) selecting layers by holding down the Shift key and using the arrow keys afterwards There might be more useful appliances for keyboard shortcuts.
