  1. I'd like to move the first steps in the digital arts world as a hobby. I tried with my current macBook Pro and a Wacom tablet and found the lag too bad to enjoy drawing (it's a mid-2015 4-core i7 with 16GB RAM and only the integrated Intel Iris Pro GPU) As I'm looking for an upgrade I'm wondering what's the minimum that could give me a low-latency drawing experience. I know that brushes can be very computationally expensive if one wants to simulate liquid colours dripping and blending with other layers and whatnot. So let's say I'm going to stick to pencil-like or fairly simple brushes. Would a macBook Pro 2018 i7-6core, 16GB RAM, and a Radeon Pro 555X 4GB be enough? I'm using Affinity Designer V2.
  2. Hello, I'd like report a performance issue. Affinity Designer Version: 2.0.0 System: Apple Mac Studio, M1 Max, 24c GPU, 32GB memory, 1TB SSD macOS: Ventura 13.0 Display: LG 27GN950, Displayport 1.4, Adaptive Sync enabled, 144Hz, 4K Mouse: Logitech G502X, Polling Rate: 1000Hz, DPI: 800 - 8000 (Edit: usually I'm using 3600 - 3800 DPI) Settings: Hardware acceleration: Metal compute acceleration (Apple M1 Max) ; Display: Metal (Edit: The issue also seems to occur with OpenGL) Issue: Selecting and moving objects appears laggy. I also noticed it when moving folders or files on my Desktop, so it could also be related to macOS Ventura. Video: https://youtu.be/kzrrg5mBT30 Repeat: Open any project and move any objects. Greetings, DC9V Affinity 2.0.0 ~☺~ M1 Max.mp4
  3. Hey, I saw this has been an issue on MacOS until the latest version (still to be validated, I guess...), but it also appears on the Windows version: If you open a "Levels" Adjustment Layer, the Histogram shows up with a delay. This can range from 1 second to almost 30 seconds.
  4. Each time I zoom in / out on my A4 canvas I have some delay for the first paint brush input (both with wacom tablet and mouse). I don't have this problem on Affinity Photo. (Same config, same brush, same canvas) With smaller canvas it's better but I also feel the slight delay. I tried with OpenGL and Metal to see differences but it's the same for both renderer. laggypaintbrush.mov
  5. I've been experiencing significant amount of initial brush lag/latency in 1.8, whether using a tablet or mouse - I'm using an iMac (HD, not retina, for what it's worth). I've seen this mentioned in the Windows specific section, but thought I'd bring it to the Mac section too as it seems to be an issue across the board. I addition to that (possibly related) I've also experienced weird thin tapers at the beginning of my strokes when using my drawing tablet (XP-Pen Artist 22R Pro), even if I press really hard with my tablet pen from the moment I put the pen down - the unwanted tapered beginnings are a lot more noticeable when drawing fast. I've mentioned this before, but it hasn't been addressed yet, and figured I'd being it up here. Here's a screen recording to show the lag and tapers for a better look - I also tested in Photoshop for comparison, but there are no issues there. I've kept the 'click-indicator' on in the recording so that you can see where the stroke starts: Affinity 1.8 Brush Issues (Lag and Unwanted Tapers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GJ52So6GUU In both cases it seems as if the software takes a second to read and interpret my tablet pen input, even after I've already started drawing. I've looked into it extensively and done a bunch of testing, thinking it could just be my tablet or tablet driver, but it's not the case as it works perfectly in all other software.
