  1. working on 300dpi file i am facing a very beginner problem im newly using affinity photo. how to fix brush lag and latency ? do i need to change these performance settings please help Desktop 2024.01.05 - 18.23.47.02.mp4
  2. Version: 2.3.1 OS: Mac OS Sonoma 14.3.1 Hardware: M3 Max 2023 Macbook Pro 16" Issue: I am a long time user of Affinity Designer. I normally use a 16" 2019 Intel Macbook Pro and have had no issues on both Affinity Designer 1 & 2. I have now recently switched to an M3 Max Macbook, which is significantly faster than my older Intel machine. However, Affinity Designer 2 on the new machine is very frequently laggy (zooming in/out and panning very choppy, obvious lag when clicking between objects) even with very small documents containing a small number of items. Other times it goes back to normal with 0 lag. I am not running any other high-demand applications while using Affinity Designer. I have checked my performance settings but everything is set very high, including the use of OpenGL. Is this behavious normal? Is there something I am missing? Has anyone else encountered this issue? Would appreciate all insight, thanks!
  3. “Fill tool” is doing multiple fill actions by just scrolling/browsing the “Fill Type” carousel. It’s creating multiple history states by just scrolling the “Fill Type” option and sometimes causing a slow down and even a crash! I’ve attached a video demonstrating the bug, notice the “history studio”. Restarting the app didn’t help! Affinity Photo v1.8.6 iPadOS v14.0.1 (iPad Pro 11 inch 2nd gen) IMG_0903.MP4
  4. Hi, I am experiencing extreme levels of brush lag in Designer 2. Any ideas what could be going on? I have tried changing the performance/acceleration options, but nothing seems to help. What Application are you using? Designer 2 Are you using the latest release version? Yes Can you reproduce it? Yes Does it happen for a new document? If not can you upload a document that shows the problem? Yes What is your operating system and version Windows 10 v22H2 Build: 19045.3448 Is hardware acceleration (in Preferences > Performance) ON or OFF ? (and have you tried the other setting?) Have tried both What happened for you (and what you expected to happen) Extreme brush lag - unusable performance Video attached: Affinity Designer Brush Lag.mp4 Thanks, Jack
  5. Designer was open for hours yesterday, it just got slow, slower and then time to close and open. This has persisted since v2 was released. Please FIX! was taken 3 secs to select new object. Close and reopen software and problem is gone for a short while. Gary
  6. Just installed V2.1. The speed is very laggy when zoomed in still . This has persisted since v2 has been released. Its a vector file and no effects on this object. 1 object and it lags. Not happy. PLEASE FIX THIS. If you being in a more complex file , its almost grinds to a halt. Gary Designer_2023-05-18_09-50-25.mp4
  7. Photo and Designer still slow switching between brush groups. Video added. Get worse the longer you use it . Video show it just opened and no doc yet. The more you add the slower it gets. This is a V2 issue since release. V1 is fine. Gary Photo_2023-05-18_09-55-36.mp4
  8. As you can see, I've experience with a massive lag with the whole Suite, especially with the selection/deselection of any shapes or curves. The lag starts after a short time with any file, and it extends to related tools (Shapes and Pen/Node), Stroke and File menu. The only way to stop it is to restart the apps every time. I used Photo for the videos (you can see them for more details) but the lag also affects Designer and Publisher. I have this lag with any update of V2, and now it also affects the Beta. None of that happens with the V1. It's been more than five months, and I can't work seriously with V2. I'm really embittered. Lag (Shapes & Curves).mp4 Lag (Stroke).mp4 Lag (Tools).mp4 LAG.afphoto
  9. I made a post about this on Reddit and I was recommended to move over here instead. I'm playing around with the free trial of the affinity suite before jumping off the Adobe bandwagon, but I seem to be having an issue that I'm not seeing many other places. Mouse or tablet, I get this awful lag when trying to draw with the brush tool. Even with no other applications running on my desktop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytCJtuLRWhk (Unlisted example video) This computer has plenty of head room when using the program, so I'm not sure what the issue is. Other programs like Clip Studio and Photoshop work fine! I'm using a Huion H610 PRO V2 tablet, in case that helps. 10. Hello, I'd like report a performance issue. Affinity Designer Version: 2.0.0 System: Apple Mac Studio, M1 Max, 24c GPU, 32GB memory, 1TB SSD macOS: Ventura 13.0 Display: LG 27GN950, Displayport 1.4, Adaptive Sync enabled, 144Hz, 4K Mouse: Logitech G502X, Polling Rate: 1000Hz, DPI: 800 - 8000 (Edit: usually I'm using 3600 - 3800 DPI) Settings: Hardware acceleration: Metal compute acceleration (Apple M1 Max) ; Display: Metal (Edit: The issue also seems to occur with OpenGL) Issue: Selecting and moving objects appears laggy. I also noticed it when moving folders or files on my Desktop, so it could also be related to macOS Ventura. Video: https://youtu.be/kzrrg5mBT30 Repeat: Open any project and move any objects. Greetings, DC9V Affinity 2.0.0 ~☺~ M1 Max.mp4
  11. plz help me figure out why this lags so much, with one group it start lagging badly. i have my i7 7700 and 16gb ram with gtx 1050. this is not that bad of a setup to work with in the vid u can see how illustrator handle performance is thare any setting i could change to make it better??? let me know. 12. I was working on 4000*3000 artboard with 300 DPI, at the begining i designing it was fine until i found this issue: Preview was blurry and slow response File took longer when i open and consume lot of ram and cpu (not gpu) when running it Export not working (stuck at "exporting" loading screen") still blurry when i try to copy one by one of the object to new file Notes: I use laptop: 16Gb Ram, Ryzen 7 4000 Series, GTX 1660 with max-q design (6GB) I also use to export on workstation PC: intel core i5 13600KF 5.1 ghz, rtx 3080ti 12Gb, 16 GB ddr5 ram and the result is same as the points above its fine when i create new other file i try to export in affinity photo and the result are blurry as seen in artboard preview i use some live filter from affinity photo *Blurry and object dont chang or move realtime *CPU and RAM usage (up to 10gb) *Result when i export in affinity photo
  13. Heya, Have anyone else noticed that Affinity Designer and Photo gets slow and laggy after couple of hours of working with the programs? I first thought that there must be something with my MacBook Pro and after some hours the RAM is somehow blocked or full and every operation, mouse click, drag, pull etc is starting to lag more and more. But now that I'm using AD with a completely different Mac I notice the same behaviour. What can cause this? Is anyone else suffering from this habit that the programs have?
  14. In big sized pictures (25500px x 16500px) the lag is at the beginning of a stroke. If the app catches up, everything goes smoothly. The lag doesn't depend on the size of the brush. In open GL mode is no lag at the beginning of a stroke but performance in long strokes falls short to brushes in metal accelerating mode. It's the same in old and new created documents. And use of a mouse or a pen tablet doesn't make any difference either. Since you advertised Affinity Photo as Apple Silicon optimized, I assume this lag - showing in metal acceleration mode - is a bug. I'm using - Affinity Photo 1.10.5 - Mac Studio M1 Max with 64 GB RAM, OS Ventura (was the same with the OS before); - Apple Studio Display in the Design & Print setting (P3-D50); - Wacom Intuos 5M; - Logitech G502 Hero
  15. I am currently creating a digital journal inside Affinity Publisher that currently has 390 pages and 14 master pages. I am experiencing extreme lag in performing most actions, but most noticeable is the inability to export (File > Export). I just get the spinning beach ball and the program becomes unresponsive. I have tried to figure out why and noticed that the issue started when I added more master pages. So I started removing master pages and the more master pages I removed the faster the response time was (still was taking several minutes). When I had just has one master page there was minimal if any lag time. I don't have any images in this file apart from one SVG icon, which doesn't seem to be an issue. I am using a MacBook Pro 2017 16GB with macOS Monterey 12.5.1 and running Affinity Publisher 1.10.5. Any help would be appreciated.
  16. Hi I've just moved from photoshop to Affinity Photo and would like to keep it this way. How ever i am getting some huge performance issues. I have a brand new Mac Studio with M1 Max & 64GB RAM. I was expecting the app to fly buy it just lags and stutters. So much so im on the verge of signing up for Photoshop again. If i have a 16bit Tiff file open and i try to crop it, it seriously lags and takes me almost 1min to even position the crop frame. Even on other smaller files i get the spinning beach ball while the software thinks about something. It could be Document resizing, filters etc. Is there anything i can do to solve this? Or is this a series of bug issues that will be fixed?
  17. So I've installed AP and it worked great until today (7 days after I installed it on my Mac m1 max) what gives and what's the solution?
  18. I have lenovo ideapad 310 with i7 8th gen / 12 GB ram/ 1TB HDD/ Build it intel UHD 620 Graphics card. When I try to use the blend brush, the lagging is highly pronounced. Even when I use the brush with bigger size, I can find the lag. Is the lag due to inadequate graphics card? If yes, upgrading to Intel Iris Xe will work out or I need to add something like Nvidia RTX3050?
  19. Since v.1.10, after I've worked on a few files, when I use the crop tool to manually rotate and straighten a photo, there is a lag and a jerky motion which makes it difficult to be precise. After restarting program it works properly for awhile. Performance setting attached Any thoughts are much appreciated. 2017 27" iMac 3.4GHz, 24 GB DDR4 RAM running Big Sur 11.5.1
  20. I have begin using Publisher to layout novels. However, speed issues are really slowing me down, especially on text that is flowing over hundreds of pages. Other aspects of the application are slow as well, not just text entry. Selecting fonts and sizes, applying styles, and changing visual options like showing/hiding baseline grid is so slow, a force quit is required. The below video shows a text entry example with a file that has virtually no graphics. It is mostly text, 503 pages long. To show the difference in performance, I first type into a single non-linked text frame. Everything works as expected. However, editing text in a linked text frame, the lag between characters appearing onscreen is almost ten seconds, per character. In fact, during that time Windows thinks the application has become unresponsive. It is really difficult to work like this. Any ideas? Is this a bug or just me? I hope it's a setting on my computer I can change. 21. Hey all, When I am using Affinity Designer and trying to draw there is a significant lag. Basically the tokes drag behind the cursor which makes it impossible to draw. My laptop: MacBook Pro 16, 2.3 8-Core Intel i9, 32GB DDR4, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB MacOS: 11.2.3 AD 1.9.3 Any ideas ? Cheers
  22. Overall performance is good for me, but there is a lag when trying to use the node and move tools with a pen. The node or object selected doesn't start moving until a *long* time after the drag starts, and in that time the pen is a long way from the original touch point. After the delay, the object or node snaps to the pen position. Things are smooth after the initial delay-snap. Other features are smooth as well. Drawing with the pen for example is perfectly smooth and lag free. I am using a Surface Book 2 with maxed out memory, and the latest version of Designer. Having the base attached or not makes no difference. I tried turning off the "tap and hold to right click" feature in Windows and various settings in the performance tab. Nothing I have tried so far makes a difference. Also note that the CPU is basically idle and I am just trying this with one object. This is super annoying, especially after using my iPad for editing, where the same features are buttery smooth. Even editing over a wifi connection on the Mac with AstroPad is a better experience. Any suggestions on how to fix this with a setting somewhere? If not, are you working to improve this feature? I would like to use my Surface Book more with Designer, but this is a total buzz kill for me. Thanks for an awesome Mac and iPad version. I am really looking forward to a better experience on Windows.
  23. Hi, I bought affinity photo on windows Microsoft Store recently. I found out some of the brushes other than basic brushes always have a huge delay when I use a high resolution(300 ppi)artboard. I read about similar problems that have been discussed in this forums. I changed the spacing of brushes that delayed, but this solution is not working for my case. There is no problem when I draw with Adobe Photoshop. I wonder if other people have this problem, or it is just my setting being incorrect. My computer has an intel core i7 7th gen chip, a Nvidia GeForce gtx1060 graphic card, and 16g ram. This delay problem is really bugging me. I hope there is a way to fix it, or I can only going back to photoshop.
  24. Hello, I don't know if these are bugs or just limitations of the application and iPad, but I figured I would write a bug report about them since these issues strongly hinder how I use Affinity Designer on my iPad. I am also bundling what I would normally consider two separate bugs because I found them together and they cause mutually exclusive issues for me. If you guys want me to format my report any differently in the future, just let me know. Ok, so the issues I am having stem from the smudge brush tool and specifically how it works when the color space is set to RGB/8. I was experimenting using the smudge brush to create a smooth blend between two colors. What ended up happening, however, is that the colors would become very distorted. When I was trying to blend a burnt orange and dark-ish blue, the blending would eventually smear to pink in stark contrast from what the blend is supposed to make (see first attached image). I tested the same blend in Procreate as a reference and it had no such issues at all. I got the weird smeary brown I expected to get. After experimenting to try to understand the issue better, I found that if I set the color space of the document to RGB/16 instead of RGB/8 that the issue went away entirely. I tried the same blend of colors and got the correct result I was expecting to get from smudging these two colors together (see first attached image again). I also found that blending colors in general via any method seemed to generally work better in the RGB/16 color space (I kept getting a sort of stripy effect in RGB/8) so I was very pleased with the find. So with that, I thought, problem fixed! I can do everything I want now with no issues. I was anticipating a performance hit of some kind for using the higher bit depth, but there didn't seem to be any downside to the change. Well, that held true until I tried to do some hatching. So, what I found is that I can make a singular contiguous stroke of any length at any speed my hand can manage and Affinity Designer responds amazingly quick, almost instantaneously. It is wonderful. However, I also found that if I make a lot of rapid strokes of any length with any brush, Affinity cannot keep up. If I keep making little hatching strokes, the delay can range from 0.5-1.5 seconds to 5-10 seconds. So I can make a lot of marks, then pull my pen away from the screen, and over the next several seconds watch as Designer slowly populates in my brush strokes. This is a fairly frustrating issue because I use hatching a lot and it even hinders normal handwriting. Please see the attached video to see my demonstration of the issue. Also, the delay in fast stroke rendering varies over time and seems to change based on the length of time I have been using my iPad, not with document complexity or resolution. The delay is smallest after I freshly restart my iPad, and is longest after using it for some hours. I also tested these issues in Affinity Photo. I found that the behavior of the Smudge Brush Tool is the same, but there is no delay in rendering fast strokes in RGB/16 mode. With that being the case, I could theoretically just use Affinity Photo for drawing/painting instead of Designer, but the Artboards feature of Designer is just so dang useful that I loath to give it up. For my hardware and software info, I am using the 2020 iPad Pro and the version of Affinity Designer is 1.8.6.1. The version of Affinity Photo I am using is 1.8.6.198. Let me know if you have any questions or if you need any additional information from me. Thank you, Collin Image 1: Demonstration of RGB/8 vs. RGB/16 smudging Video 1: Demonstration of the delay in rendering fast strokes in RGB/16 mode PXL_20201214_215420542.mp4
  25. Hello, the stroke is very laggy on some brushes (gouaches…) on my Windows machines. What is strange is that given the same canvas resolution on my iPad pro (2018) and MacMini (2018) there is no perceptible lag with se same brushes (& sizes). Is there missing optimization on the Windows version or this a limitation of the renderer on Windows (compared to Metal) ?
