  1. Using iPad Pro + Apple Pencil 2019 Once I have my guides set, I cannot drag them or move them at all. It appears as if they are locked - any help greatly appreciated!
  2. Hello Affinity Team, Is there a way to preview the cursor/brush size while painting or brushing? I understand the iPad doesn't have hover support but at least while brushing, I hope to see the boundaries of the brush. Thank you so much!
  3. Hello, When I use the pencil tool with fill, I will be drawing for a few minutes then the app will crash and all of my work is lost. I’ve tried changing the saving interval so it can save and I don’t lose my work but that doesn’t work. This is the version iPad I am using A1893. Please help, I’m starting to enjoy using AD and hope this can be fixed without upgrading to a new iPad.
  4. Affinity Photo is a great app on the iPad and on Windows, but working together with both platforms is not so easy. You could use iCloud to sync your files, but it is very slow when working with large files and regular changes. Therefore it would be nice to be able to access file servers (FTP or SMB) directly inside the Affinity Photo App. This feature would be very cool and I would also pay something for this feature as an In-App-Transaction.
  5. Official Affinity Photo iPad Tutorials New to the latest update of the app (1.6.9), we've got a brand new set of tutorials that follow a more structured approach. You can access them from the Tutorials option in-app or by following this link: https://affinity.serif.com/tutorials/photo/ipad They are sorted into categories: Basic Operations Advanced Corrective and Retouching Creative Tools Filters and Adjustments Export Persona Just some quick info about the new videos: They're all shot in 4K resolution (supported on desktop machines) for extra clarity. There are localised subtitles for all the languages supported by the app (English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese Simplified, Japanese). Hope you find them useful! James
  6. According to the help you activate guides (context menu pops up ✅)... Then tap the guide... 🤔 .... should it change to a dotted red line? Can’t seem to drag it at all. The Lock Guides is not active. I’ve tried a tap-drag, a tap then drag, a long tap, a double tap... nothing. No visual feedback, no response at all. Can’t see anything in the Layers studio (I’ve unlocked them all to cover that off). What am I missing, thanks?
  7. Sorry if this is a repeat. I do not see the ability to export to an .afdesign file type from the ipad app. I only see .svg and when I export to .svg all of my layers and groupings turn into a jumbled mess on the desktop. I see that I am unable to access the designer files on my ipad directly is there a way to do this or is the only way to access those files is through saving files directly to icloud?
  8. Hi there, I noticed an overall drop of performance with the newest version. Especially when liquify masks are involved (but not necessarily bound to the use of liquify masks). It will often react with huge lags even with only using the GUI (selecting tools, opening menus, switching personas etc but not doing anything to the file itself). Can someone else confirm? Update: Its not only sluggish but also a first grade battery consumer. 30% in half an hour. My device is an iPad Pro 2nd Gen 10.5" with the latest OS installed (14.4 as today).
Danke Frank Pauli
  10. Is it possible to access swatches from the context menu as shown below? Of course I mean document palettes should be listed here shouldn’t they, logically? If not, why not? Thanks
  11. Is there a way in Designer iPad to ‘pin’ layers to the top of the layers stack, so that any layers created as you draw sit below them? Locking the layers does not do it. —————————————- Background: Why I need this. I’ve scanned a sketch. I now want to draw vector shapes based on the sketch. I’m using the image layer with a 20% opacity setting as a guide. I draw objects (at 100% opacity) below this top image layer. It saves me having to mess about with the opacity of umpteen layers rather than one. Some would call these reference layers. —————————————- . @Jowday’s post starts talking about reference layers in the Desktop app (I’ve not read it all).
  12. 15. Serif allow customers to test new builds of the software even before it is released to the public. These "beta" builds offer an opportunity to trial bug fixes, add support for new file formats and show off new features before they are launched. This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are trying the latest beta version of the Affinity software on your platform. Product Name | Platform | Beta Ver. | ====================|================|==================| Affinity Designer | iPad 12.x-14.x | n/a | Affinity Photo | iPad 12.x-14.x | n/a | Affinity Publisher | iPad 12.x-14.x | to be announced | ADe and APh iPad Customer Betas require you to be an owner of the paid for version of the software to work. You need to have the purchased software installed on the same iPad as the customer beta. APu iPad beta has not yet been announced or released. If you would like to try the iPad Customer Beta build look for the top (pinned) post in each of these forums, the latest of which is posted in this thread: Affinity Designer beta for iPad forum Affinity Photo beta for iPad forum Affinity Publisher Public beta for iPad to be announced iPad build numbers and Windows/Mac builds are independent. The third number increases each time a public release is made, the last number is generated by a build server and so not directly related to each other. I will update/edit this post as new iPadOS Beta releases are added by the developers. This thread is locked and will only be posted to by Serif Staff when the beta release versions are updated. Please follow this thread if you want to know about future version changes. If you think this post has got behind announcing the iPadOS beta updates and needs updating please PM me.
  16. As a very recent purchaser of an iPad and the Affinity iPad apps, reading this thread has left me a little confused! I have installed the latest version of Designer from the App Store; the splash screen shows it as being version 1.9.0, but the "Preferences/Settings" screen shows it to be 1.9.3. Which is "correct"? (Screenshot below). TIA. Jeff
  17. I'm new to Affinity Photo for iPad. I'm using a 512GB 11" iPad Pro (2018) with a Samsung T5 (1TB) SSD attached. I'm using the Open From Cloud option to navigate to my attached Samsung T5 SSD drive to select a file to open. This seems like basic functionality but I'm having problems. I'm hoping it is operator error. When I select the directory on my SSD containing the file I want to open, it takes 75 seconds (!) before anything appears. The first time this happened I assumed Affinity Photo was creating thumbnails...until 4900 or so generic icons appeared. No thumbnails at all. If I navigate away from the directory and go back, it will take another 75 seconds to show me the same list or grid (it makes no difference) of generic icons. Is this right? Because I don't see how it is reasonable to expect me to locate the file I want to open without seeing a thumbnail. The file name is meaningless. Nor can I copy the files onto my iPad Pro. There isn't room. Is there a setting I'm missing? FWIW, the files in this directory are compressed RAF files. They do open fine when I click on them. What I really want—and it doesn't look like Affinity Photo is it—is a photo editing solution that allows me to work directly off of an SSD connected to my iPad Pro when I'm traveling to areas of the country/world where there is no internet access. I want to be able to review my files (at 100% when necessary) without having to shuttle them on and off of the iPad itself. Even the cheapest laptop can accomplish this. But it seems like software developers can't figure out how to make this work with an iPad.
  18. Hello, A very frustrating phenomenon keeps occurring while trying to select parts of a picture in Affinity Photo for iPad. Even though anti-alias is turned off and feather is set to 0, the edge of the selection i still blurred and I’ve found no setting to fix this. Am I missing something here? All I want is to have a nice, crisp edge on my selections but it doesn’t seem work. Anyone having the same problem?
  19. Hi fellow Affinity users. Having been confined to the house during the Covid pandemic I have taken the opportunity to update the Designer PDF help file to version 1.9 There have been numerous feature additions in this version so you may benefit from updating. I hope you find it useful. I have attached a lower resolution copy of the PDF version of the Affinity Designer IPad apps built in Help file directly to this post. See below. (I have also attached a less compressed (higher resolution) copy's Dropbox “link” to a PDF version). You can open the PDF file in a reader or iBook allowing you to view and search the help file while working on a document in Affinity Designer. All links within the document should be working. I hope you find it as useful as I do. Please note that this PDF is not in any way supported by Affinity, nor are they responsible for any errors or omissions, so please do not refer any errors or omissions in the Document to Affinity. Every attempt has been made (by me) to ensure the content is an accurate representation of the built in Help file, however some errors 'may' have slipped through . I will endeavour to keep it up to date (at least for a little while) . When Publisher comes out I may redo the layout (Pages is a little limited in the area of indexing). My Dropbox account is basic and limits daily bandwidth, if you experience a problem downloading just try again next day. 20. Is there a way to change the thumbnails back to the original thumbnail? After I updated all the files I save have the AD logo as the thumbnail instead of the actual project contents. I’m bad at naming files so I rely on the thumbnail to pick which projects I need. On another forum someone said that the files will eventually change back to the original thumbnail. But it hasn’t changed yet.
  21. We are pleased to announce an update for the iPad release of Affinity Designer, version 1.9.0 (note this 1.9.0 build calls itself 1.9.3 in the about box) Changes in this build The changes in Affinity Designer for iPad 1.9.0 (over the last release Affinity Designer for iPad 1.8.6) are as follows: New Features: Powerful contour tool to create abstract objects or increase the width of single open curves Select Same to efficiently match attributes such as fill colour, stroke colour, stroke weight, transparency, blend mode or shape type Select Object to select all objects of a certain type within your document to make editing even easier External display support with separate configuration options Added Divide layer blend mode Global colours supported Added Export Preview in the Export dialog Added hierarchical antialiasing control - accessed from the Layer Options view in the layers studio Blend modes for mask layers Create brushes from current pixel selection Content sync of store purchases (requires registration) This feature is explained in more detail here Sync your Affinity Store resources with your Affinity 1.9 apps New Samples Fixes & Improvements: Elliptical marquee automatically creates from centre Numerous drawing issues resolved PDF import: Improvement to handling of mask images Added Preference option (under 'General') to disable external screen broadcasting Fix for Transform studio not allowing access to Constraints Added Snapping to Pixel Selection Bounds Text improvements Fix for colour-picker not working correctly in brush tools Fix a number of potential symbol-related problems Snapping improvements Miscellaneous PDF export tweaks PDF Import improvements (particularly around tinted colours and unknown fonts) Fix for pixel layers inside symbols occasionally acting incorrectly Fixed sporadic crash with Pencil Tool and hopefully generally improved product stability Improved drawing with the Apple Pencil (Light pressure could create a blob at the beginning of the stroke) Fix for artefacts occasionally noticed in the noise pattern while editing objects with noise on a linear fill Added option for Designer to be able to show/hide overflow text - particularly useful for text on a path Fix for terrible rendering problems - particularly affected cropped items with layer effects applied Improved performance with large documents Help & localisation improvements UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (free for existing customers) The software version can be seen on the corner of preferences screen. 22. I’ve a simple rectangle. Pasted inside it, is a complex artwork which is much larger than the rectangle. Is there a way to move the rectangle without moving the artwork that’s inside it? I’ve tried locking the artwork that’s inside the rectangle = didn’t work. I’ve explored choosing the node tool = nope. Can’t think what else logically to do. All help appreciated, thank you.
  23. I came up with some ideas to improve workflow. Look at second photo coz i dont know how to delete first one.
  24. I recently purchased the ipad version of Designer to make vector based artwork on the go. I've had the desktop version for a little while now and really enjoy it. One change I had to make right away when I bought the desktop version was turning on "precise clipping" in the performance section. I have become so used to this setting that I honestly forgot I ever even had to turn it on until today. Now that I'm attempting to work in Designer on my ipad I am running into thin lines appearing between layers that contain other objects. I will attach a picture below that should show a thin brown line appearing between the two layers as well as a screenshot showing how they are set up. Saving the file then downloading it to my desktop and opening it on my desktop version fixes this issue entirely so I can only assume "Precise Clipping" is to blame. Is this function not available on ipad? It seems rather silly to have to send myself my own file just to open it on my desktop as a workaround. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  25. Hey so i’ve been using Affinity Designer on my Ipad pro (2018) for a long time now. Never had any problems until two days ago when the new update came out. Whatever i try to do, whichever file i open the app crashes after a few seconds rendering it completely unusable... As i do two design jobs using mostly AD, this is a huge problem now. Any tips on how i could solve this would be greatly appreciated. Before you ask, yes i tried resetting the ipad, it didn’t help, the problem seems to be with the new update...
