  1. With the update to iOS 11, images synchronised from iOS devices to a Mac are in HEIC file format. When I attempt to open these images using Affinity Photo from within Apple Photos the application/extension reports "The file type is not supported." Opening a file from Photos in the Affinity Photo standalone app is not affected as the export process changes the file to a suitable type.
  2. When I import a HEIC file from photos, AP reduces the dimensions of the file from 4032x3024 to 3072x2304. This happens on all HEIC files but not JPGs. Why is this happening? Thanks!
  3. Just bought Affinity Photo. Love it so far, but was a little disappointed to learn that HEIC files aren't directly supported, so I had to figure out a workaround. In Apple Photos, I exported an HEIC file to 16 bit TIFF, but when I open it in Affinity Photos, it displays like the attached file. It opens fine in other programs, so I'm not sure if it's "glitching" just in Affinity Photos or is something with the way Apple Photos is exporting it and the other programs can "work around" it. This happens with all HEIC files using any color profile for the export. Photos originally captured as JPG export fine. Thoughts? Editing to add that I just read that while the iPhone can capture 10 bit color depth, it can only encode (write) to 8 bits, so exporting to a 16 bit file isn't likely going to gain anything and will just make the file bigger. Are there any plans to directly support HEIC in the future? I saw some forum posts about it but didn't see a definitive answer.
  4. When do Affinity Photo support a plugin to edit heic-photos on MacOS?
  5. I've done some controlled experiments and had another person verify this is repeatable. Steps to produce the problem: Take photo with iPhone running iOS 11 (tested with iPhone 7 and iPhone X). Photo will be in HEIF/HEIC format Export image from Apple Photos on the Mac as an 8-bit TIFF Open 8-bit TIFF in Affinity Photo 1.5 or 1.6 (tested both) - image looks fine Export the same image form Apple Photos as a 16-bit TIFF Open 16-bit TIFF in Affinity Photo 1.5 or 1.6 and the right 10% of the image will be sort of a grey, metal-looking digital mess The same 16-bit TIFF looks fine in quick look and in Macphun's Aurora HDR 2018 Rather than clog up the system with giant files here's the 8 and 16-bit versions of the same photo in Dropbox so you can see for yourself: 8-bit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nityjdgibkfc9td/boogs 8-bit.tiff?dl=0 16-bit with mess on the right: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0t2kv4x2o7t0ft5/boogs16-bit.tiff?dl=0
  6. I'm starting to use the iPad version and I found it really great. It would be nice if in a future version it will be supported HEIF codec complaint to iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra. Another cool feature but i know it will be harder to do, the possibility to use a Spyder5 to calibrate to iPad monitor. Like app ColorTrue does.
