  1. Todays: Workflow and WINDOWS (putting all my critics in one thread seems to overtax you - since 90% gets lost) - if you resize (zoom in/zoom out) the content of an undocked window can you please resize the window accordingly. (if the resulting content is smaller than the workspace of the screen, adapt the window accordingly, if the content is larger, maximize the window frame with scrollbars) - If you zoom a view too 100% the position of the content seems to be "random". Please instead center the content and resize the window accordingly! (I know you can do it since you do it with the "fit window" view as well) - having all windows floating a new document should start in floating mode as well - when selecting "float all" the content of all windows should be centered and not randomly put somewhere over the screen - (one is happy to find the content at all). Window size should be adapted to content. - One should be able to drag and drop a layer from one document into another document (not just with CTRL+c CTRL+v). Additionally: when trying to drag and drop the user gets the impression It would work based on the way the cursor changes when you drag a layer into another document - but in fact nothing happens. - ESC still does not cancel essential operation e.g. cropping Most of these bullet points have been mentioned many years ago even though they are absolutely crucial workflow topics. And we are not talking complicated additional features and rocket science - we are talking absolutely BASICS! You just simply ignore them. People that seriously try to work with the software are not of interest for you guys - what upsets me. I keep bringing them up every 6 month what seems to be a complete waste of time. I would roughly guess that AP takes up 30%-40% additional mouse-movements, keystrokes and actions to get to the same results as PS does JUST and purely due to your extremely poor workflow and handling issues. And we all know that time is money. Cheers, Timo
  2. First of all thank you for the improvements in windows handling in the latest beta 1.6.3.98 - this is already a good step in the right direction. I'd like to add some further optimisations on the window topic: 1) When you drag & drop a file from the windows explorer please: - open it in an undocked window (elsewise no second drag an drop is possible unless you float the first window)! - if possible in 1:1 Zoom (not enlarged to windows size as in place right now) - and with an adapted windows size to fit the original file 2) When you float a or all windows please make the floating window(s) fit the picture in the current zoom level (optimal windows size) - if it fits in the workspace. 3) If a window is larger than the original document (regardles if docked or floating) please automatically center the document within the new window (and disable the view tool in this window). If you resize a floating window smaller than the document: dock the document at the top left corner. Maybe it makes sense to implement a general setting "Always center documents when smaller than window". If a document is smaller than the window there is no need to be able to move the document within the window. One could avoid accidentally "loosing" the document in "outer space" if it would always be centered in the docked window (if smaller than the window) 5) When you work with docked and floating windows in combination you can't bring the docked window to the front. This is a general problem. It could be solved by only allowing docked or floating windows mode but no mixture. Floating windows can be brought to the front. 6) It would be nice to arrange all floating windows optimized on the workspace (e.g. horizontal, vertical, tiled) with one click (menu command) 7) Also nice to have: additional information of document size (height/width in current units somewhere at the windowsframe of a document) 8) If I undock many documents why do they cascade at the top right(?) corner of my screen? 9) Drag and Drop of layers between documents should be possible These are just some suggestions that come to my mind. Cheers, Timo
  3. Here's a tiny list of topics within Affinity Photo for Windows I'd like to address as important improvements that need implementation from a professional photographers point of view (Based on version 1.5.1.54 Final). I'm aware that some points have been mentioned by other useres already. It would be great to get some kind of feedback from serif staff with regards to the likelyhood of implementation. I'll try to extend this list when new topics come up. Please do not see most of these points as "nice to have" additions or "customer dreaming", but essential improvements required(!) for any kind of professional workflow. The list does not cover obvious minor or major bugs as they get tracked by serif staff anyhow I suppose. As well I'm aware that some of my suggestions have already internally been rejected and implemented differently as "By Design" - maybe there's a chance to reconsider this decisions. A suggestion could be to start a discussion in the forum with your customers to see what's their preferred way to handle the implementation. Basic workflow/Window handling: - When undocking a document window from the workspace it should automatically adapt document window to document size (or maximum window size with scrollbars if document is larger) - maybe selectable in the preferences - When zooming in or out a document window size should automatically adapt to document size (or maximum window size with scrollbars if document is larger) - maybe as a setting selectable in the preferences - After resizing an undocked window the document shoud automatically be centered within the new window dimensions - One should be able to drag and drop a layer from one document into another document (not just with CTRL+c CTRL+v) - The area where one can grab the frame of a window for resizing shoud be enlarged - Pressing ENTER or ESC should confirm or cancel a dialog - as defined in windows UI standards (e.g. in crop mode none of the keys work) Macros: - (multiple) layer selection should be recordable - colour assignment to objects should be recordable - for macros it would be good if resizing of a document could be based on a maximum side lenght regardles if the document is landscape or portrait - Make conditional decisions available (e.g.: IF (DocHight > DocWidth) THAN ... ELSE ...) Alternatively include some kind of JavaScript language. - Include "Export" functionality with parameters as part of Macro recording - Add customizable keyboard shortcuts to dedicated macros Other: - it would be important to be able to make a selection based on a colour(range) (including tolerance, adding and subtracting from a previously chosen colour range) - not only based on the 3 base colour as currently implemented. - if unproportional cropping is selected it would be good to temporarily switch to "original proportion" cropping or fixing the current proportion by pressing the Alt or Ctrl key - optional parameter adaption for certain filters (e.g. gaussian blur) when resizing a document to fit the new dimensions. Currently unadapted parameters of these filters wreck every document after resizing. - icon size in the layer panel should be definable (similar to PS where 3 sizes are available) - I'd prefere to have one common command (keyboard shortcut) for the brush size and not a seperate one for each tool. - Saving setting and content for parameter fileds and pathes would save much time. Just some exaples: 1) Export preferences (They are continuously back to stupid *.png instead my predefinde personal settings ...) 2) Parameter for live filters (e.g. gaussian blur or unsharp mask) 3) Parameter for fx settings 4) Cropping Mode (setting keeps switching back to useless "unconditioned") 5) Resize method (e.g. bilinear/bicubic) - at least the standard setting should be something usable instead of bilinear! - Assistant settings should be global and part of the preferences (e.g. adding new layers on same levels as selected layer or as a child) - Make all variables available in fields that allow calculations (e.g. transforming) - Make the frequency layer seperation parameters editable like in live filters - Increase maximum size of liquify brush - Increase parameter range of many FX settings - Would like to save a list of export settings (Slices) as one preference in the Export persona - a proper "flatten image" and "flatten group" command would be nice (combining layer in AP is not intuitive and effortless at all! Just take a look how PS does it ...) - auto-adapt parameters of filters when scaling objects (e.g. gaussian blur, fx-settings) - in low resoloution the fx parameters are by far not precise enough (e.g. a picture with 800x600px can't deal wit a shadow in a watermark between 0.1 and 0.0 px-precision) - make live adjustments/filters masks directly visible as an overlay. - When a graphic in the OS (e.g. Windows) is copied via CTRL-C it would be great when clicking on "new document" within AP the dimensions of the clipboard picture would be automatically copied as a preset for this new document - assistant should add new layer even when flood fill tool is used - Numerical scaling through the transformation dialog should optionally allow scling of textsize in related objects as well. - Would be nice to display Colour Mode and bit depth behind the filename in the document window (as PS does it) - Help files often does not open (wrong focus, dialog open that does not recognise help key) - include "AutoClip" option in filters that change document or layer dimensions (e.g. most of the distortion filters) - A new document should automatically have a pixel layer as the background layer (alternatively all tools that require a pixel layer should automatically add this layer - maybe an extension of the assistant) - Metadata Editor (This is a high priority for everyone supplying stock content) - Flood Fill with bitmap pattern - Include a small button next to the fg/bg colour circle to reset it to black/white - Global definition of standard grid setting - Definition of standard output profile from the develop persona - Provide picture thumbnails in Windows File Explorer - Spiral Tool - Improved Transform panel functionality (e.g. radius for circles) Performance: - Serious improvement of InPainting tool performance! - Multiple layer performance Cheers, Timo
  4. I'm aware that the focus of development has not been on essential workflow elements but I seriously beg you to have a look at some of the basic daily work topics for daily work users (it's not features that differentiates AP from PS ... it's workflow!) Taking a closer look at the windows handling: Dragging a window from the docked position to a free floating position leaves the windowns in XXL size instead of adjusting it to the current document size - it's a nightmare! Is there a chance to center the document within an optimised size of the window adapting to the current size of the document (within the current zoom state)? The situation gets even worse since the handles for adjusting the windwsize are active in such a small region that it's extremely hard to resize a window to the desired size. There's probably 2 pixel space that makes the cursor change from horizontal to diagonal and vertical resizing (or simply clicking in an unused space) ... why don't you make handling easier? Why don't you automatically center the document within a given window but leave it to the user to center the document with much effort? I would as well appreciate a button that releases all existing documents from a docked position to a free flaoting position, automatically rezising and cerntering them - what an easy programming task but a big improvement for the users ...if you want to be competitive (you got the features), start with meeting the basic handling requirements! Cheers, Timo
  5. Hi AP developers, aside the feature (and related bug) discussions I'd like to bring your attention to some handling issues. As a photographer I'm dealing with many pictures every day so handling issues withing AP really matter for me. And I'm facing some serious hickups here that make working with AP really hard an exhausting. 1) No file-path is ever saved properly. So after saving keyboard shortcuts (always atz the same location) I completely have to enter my standard path for current export ... changing it again for my current import, changing it again for my standard macro path ... Suggestion: either AP should remember those pathes individually in addition to entering those pathes in my program settings. 2) AP seems to have problems of gaining focus (back again) when interaction with other applications (regardles if Lightroom calls AP with a picture file or a plugin has had temporarily control) - sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't 3) Even though AP remembers what files have been open the last session it does not restore undocked windows to it's original size where they were left when closing the application - this costs a hell lot of time to each time set up the windows again correctly 4) Same refers to panels like the library panel. Each time I open AP again, the library panel shows unwanted groups but not the personal groups I am working with. Love to see UI settings beeing saved properly. 5) Unpredictable behaviour (not necessarily reproducable) does not improve trust into the code. E.g. gradationcurves and toncurves show histograms of the pixel level ...well at least after starting the program - but for not known reasons from a certain point of working with AP these histograms are not displayed at all any more (empty window). The funktionality of the filters is still given. 6) Each time I resize an image (and that's plenty of times a day) the interpolation method is set back to "bilinear" ... and each time I have to set it back to whatever else I prefere. This drives my crazy. If the UI would at least remember what my last setting was. It would as well be nice to have some resize presets for documents, since I'm quite often dealing with the same output sizes. (And adding a wishful feature here: implementing a setting saying "resize longest side to 1200px". This would be extremely helpful for resizing picture to the same maximum side lenght (regardless landscape or portrait) - extremely helpful for automation purpose (Macro!)) Thanks for having a look into these topics, Cheers, Timo Btw: this experience is based on the final version (not the beta).
