  1. Hi How do I add a 2 colour say red and blue to either replace the sky or over lay or maybe a gradient vignette
  2. Hi guys. Carefully ported gradients from https://webgradients.com/ It may contain some inaccuracies, but in general it is usable. Enjoy. WebGradients.zip
  3. Hi guys, I have created a color gradient in a layer fx (see image) - now I want to copy that gradient somehow or ideally make it a swatch/global gradient. But I don't see how. Thanks in advance, Stefan.

    Gradient and tiling patterns

Whenever I try to use the gradient tool to apply a tiling pattern, this is what I get instead:
  5. It might be useful to have a way to apply a gradient on a curved path, and even a custom path, instead of just a straight line/other preset option.
  6. When creating a Gradient for a Gradient Map, in order to save it the only option seems to be to click the 'Add Preset' button, which adds it as an adjustment preset. The problem is that there doesn't appear to be any way to import/export these presets. I've instead tried saving gradients as Swatches (as Swatches can be imported/exported), but these don't work properly for Gradient Maps. Is there a way to import/export Gradients for Gradient Maps that I'm overlooking?

    smooth gradients

I've tried to create a smooth gradient which - after discovering that dithering is a 'performance' option in the settings and disabling it - looks OK in Affinity Photo. However, exporting the image (apparenly no matter what format) re-introduces the noise and my gradient is once again not smooth: (left: magnification of the gradient as displayed in Affinity Photo. right: magnification of the exported png image) Not being able to completely disable dithering is imho either a bug or a terrible oversight. another thing that seems dodgy about gradients is that sometimes changes to positions or midpoints of pivots don't get saved but reset to their previous setting when saving or switching to another layer. The way gradients work in Affinity Photo's current version is pretty much unusable for me, which forces me to go back to GIMP for this task :(
  8. I've noticed this issue a few times over the past few weeks. I will be adjusting colors and opacity in the gradient panel of Designer when the program will crash. I don't feel like I'm doing anything out of the ordinary, but thankfully everything has been recovered. Gradient tool shortcut persists

Even though I have removed the shortcut "G" from the Gradient tool and assigned it to the Fill tool, I always get the Gradient tool when pressing "G". I then have to press "G" a second time to get the Fill tool. "G" is not assigned to anything else when I look through the shortcuts. I have tried removing Affinity Photo and the .plist file found in Preferences without success. There may be other shortcuts that would cause trouble, but I have not reassigned other tools.
  10. I'm working on a SkillShare tutorial to un-stuck myself and get back in to design. This problem seems silly, but I keep running into little hurdles in Affinity Design that I am having trouble surmounting. The current lesson has the vector watercolor strokes you see in picture one being turned into gradient strokes in picture 2. Picture 2 can probably be accomplished easily with a gradient map, but I'm failing to get the white-to-black transition in either pixel or vector brushes (Designer or Photo). I play with the controller and luminosity settings to no avail — my strokes all look flat and only show lightness or darkness when I overlap them. Suggestions warmly greeted! West Coast Namaste!
  11. PDFs support object masks and gradients, a vector clipping mask applied to a gradient shape in Illustrator CC 2017 exported to a PDF generates a fully vectorized result without resorting to rasterization. On the other hand, Illustrator 1.6.4 cannot export gradient clipping masks/effects/overlays without rasterizing the final result. Unfortunately, because of the nature of JPEG(2000) compression algorithm, gradients are really expensive and it's a very costly tradeoff between file size and quality. Is there a plan to support PDF gradient masks?

    Group Gradients Bug 1.6.1

Struggling to get a gradient to appear across multiple objects within a group. Have experimented with removing sub-groups and changing stroke settings etc.. no difference. See attachment, the items should be mostly red, but instead, they're showing as just the Yellow. Have tried multiple restarts and on multiple laptops with different installs, (but both 1.6.1) -B

    Grayscale gradient image

Why I have this problem with greyscale gradients. Yuo can see on the upper image the gradient is smooth, but when I load that image in affinity photo I get this uneven transition. I have attached the original image.
  14. Hello! A picture probably says more than thousand words. Please have a look at the attached image. I'm trying to recreate this "polygon" look. I know how to create a gradient over several objects by selecting them at the same time. Is it possible to add these artifical "steps" over the gradient's colors? Similar to the orange-to-red gradient in the attached image. Or is it all done manually? If you know any other hints on how to create this or similar polygon looks, I'd be happy to know them as well!
  15. Hi guys, It would be great if when using gradient colors, we could use the COLOR PICKER tool. For example, I have an object that has a gradient color. When I click on one of the handlers, to change one of the colors, if I use the color picker tool, the shape loses its gradient color and turns into the color chosen by the color picker, regardless of the fact that I first clicked on one of the gradient handlers. It would be great if when clicking on a gradient handler, and afterwards selecting the color picker tool and selecting a color, only the color of the gradient linked to the handler I clicked on, will be changed. I was actually surprised it doesn't work like this by default Thank you, Chris
  16. In the Layer styles panel, I would find it very useful to make a gradient repeat itself when applied to something. For example If I have an assortment of colors that are applied to text, if it repeated the gradient I don't have to create an endless pattern of the same colors. With a repeat option it would apply the already set up gradient and repeat it across the span of the entire text object.
  17. It would be very useful to apply dodge and burn as a gradient, not just as a brush. Also, Also, it is a nuisance that the box of the blend range opens always in the center of the image with which you are working. And having to move it aside, each and every time you open it, so that it does not hinder the vision of the changes you make. Thanks and regards.
  18. Hi guys, Is there a possibility to change the angle of a gradient stroke? Can the gradient fill tool be also used for strokes somehow? Cheers, Chris
  19. Try this: 1. New document. 2. Click once on the Rectangle Tool (or type "M") 3. Click the square to the right of "Fill:" in the upper left corner of the window. 4. Click on the "Gradient" tab. 5. Note there is no field to set the ANGLE. Please add that. Why? Because Illustrator has one and for good reason. Yes, you can set the angle by going outside the Gradient panel, choosing the gradient tool and then manually doing it. But if one is already working inside the Gradient tab (especially for matters of precision), it is only logical that an ANGLE setting should be in there too. Thanks!
  20. I have created a pattern that I have used as a bitmap for a gradient fill in an object. I have adjusted the handles so the pattern is orientated and sized how I would like it. Is there a way of copying this to another object with the orientation and size intact? Or is there a numeric input somewhere?
  21. I always wonder that in AP there is no direct way to apply a transparent color adjustment gradient fade, which would be pretty useful for macros to have. When recording macros one actually can only use an adjustment gradient or a fx gradient effect, but the first one (which I would prefer to use for quick turn arounds) doesn't allow to alter/setup a linear gradient color transparency ... ... the fx effect in turn allows to setup this but works on a whole pixel layer and not an adjustment mask level. Also the usual gradient tool allows to setup such color->trancparency fades, but isn't recordable in macros at all. Any reason why an adjustment gradient (see the top shown panel) doesn't offer to setup a opacity color aka transparent fade here? - That looks somehow like an option omission to me.
  22. Hello, I have a really big problem with the Gradient tool... When I use the tool it immediately applies black/white color on my image, i can first change the color when its already applied which means under my intended color there will remain black or white pixels which make the gradient look terrible. My question is can I turn the automatic-application off somehow? it kind of works with Context:Fill-->Type:Solid Im just wondering if other people have experienced same issues with the tool, im still a newbie at the program... overall it's good but I enjoyed the Gradient tool of GIMP way more... Affinity Photo never acutally saves the colors that i've used before it always jumps back to black/white colors or it lets me select 1 color but the other one stays black/ or white... I struggle so much at this, maybe it's on me to blame. IDK anymore... sometimes I click on Stroke and the ( Type: ) option is even locked... or it doesnt allow me to reverse the gradient on the options.
  23. Question on how to change the angle of the gradient that fills a stroke. Say I have a rectangle. I want to have a stroke that appears from the top left corner and then fades away diagonally toward the bottom right corner (an opacity gradient). When selecting stroke, you can choose a gradient fill but you can't affect the direction that fill occurs at. It just defaults to horizontal. When using the fill option (like when you are filling an entire shape) you can choose to have gradients occur at any angle over any distance by adjusting the slider, but this doesn't seem to be the case when you are using a gradient for a stroke. I can come up with other workarounds obviously by building two rectangles where the front only reveals the edges of the back rectangle and then using an opacity gradient on the back rectangle, but it seems like I'm just missing one button somewhere.
  24. Problem Gradients have bothered me forever, not only Affinity but every piece of software that has them. Turns out that both gradients and blur are subject to the same problem, which is that they are not performing the color average calculations correctly. The issue is best explained in this video. The gradient is on the left and the blur is on the right. The color between these two is too dark. This happens for every color combination. You can also see the edges of the gradient because it is being calculated linearly. The fix below using gradients is still wrong because it still is victim to the darkness resulting from the bad average calculation. This is also a good example of the linear gradient issue because you can see a definitive purple line down the center. This is my best attempt to fix the linear gradient and make it more logarithmic This calculation issue is also extremely visible in the color chooser The examples above are all using Adobe RGB, not sRGB. Suggested fix Idea 1 Because many documents are now using the wrong calculation, my suggested fix would be to add an option to the gradient tool for what type of calculation to use in order to maintain compatibility with older documents. Idea 2 Take the Photoshop approach and just make it a document setting (and turn it on by default for new documents). Result Fixing this will result in a more accurate and pleasing gradient and blur tool. Fixing this will also fix the linear gradient problem, which causes the center and edges of gradients to be extremely visible since they are not being calculated logarithmically to compensate for how humans perceive brightness/color. Here is a snapshot of the video I linked above showing what the blur and gradient should look like:
  25. Hi! I'd love to see a Gaussian Blur tool that acted similarly to the Transparency or Gradient tools ... You could have the blur get progressively heavier as you dragged the mouse pointer towards the edge of the object. Having the ability to have a "blur gradient" could make for some awesome effects! Does anyone know of a way to duplicate this effect without the Affinity folks having to come up with a new widget tool?
