  1. Hello friends, Do you know how to apply the gradient tool to stroke? Thanks in advance. Regards, Nick
  2. Hey! I wasn't entirely sure if this went here, or feature requests, but I'll give it a go: I'm required to deliver work in .ai format, but I absolutely prefer using Designer as my main tool. However, whenever I attempt to import work with gradients in it into illustrator, it becomes rasterized. I'm not sure this is something you/Affinity can do anything about, but it really slows down my work flow when I have to remove all gradients and reapply them in illustrator, in order to use Affinity Designer for the work i need. Attached two files: One view of an object with a gradient in Affinity (tried with app store version and the current beta) and view of illustrator. Top leaf saved in Designer as EPS and "placed," bottom leaf copied and pasted. The square to the left is the raster image added within a clipping path that happens (see the layer panel.) Worth a shot! :) Let me know if I'm being impossible!
  3. Hi, "personas"! I am new to Affinity, but I am learning fast and now I need help. After learning how to use gradient tool, I was working on perspective and noticed that the gradient effect won't follow the changes (see image). I am using Affinity Design and the gradient was applied to simple shapes. I don't want to rasterise them. Does anyone know how to make the gradient follow the changes? Thanks. Love, from Brazil
  4. I searched but did not find mention of this, but from what can tell from the Affinity Designer Fill Tool help topic, the Apply to Fill button should but does not set the target for the Rotate, Reverse, Aspect, or Delete buttons to the fill. Instead those buttons always affect the stroke, as if the Apply to Stroke button was enabled.
  5. Hello Everyone, i am using Affinity Designer version 1.6.4 on windows today i made something in affinity designer. and then exported it i was using gradient but in the exported PNG file. the Gradient is not Smooth. in affinity designer preferences Dither Gradients is Checked see the image https://imgur.com/h8ic2rh
  6. Look like the gradient tool can't use document swatches for choose color and instead only use blended colors. Is there a way to use the document swatches? I did something wrong?
  7. Hello, I'm evaluating Affinity Designer and Photo to replace AI and PS in our workflow, what I need is to make a very smooth gradient without artifacts, is there a setting in AD where I can do this?
  8. More than 150 ready-made gradiens in .afpalette format. I picked up the best solutions for your creativity. WORK WITH VERSION 1.5 Beta AND HIGHER http://www.demo.egorkomarov.ru/Gradient-palette-for-Affinity-Designer/
  9. Hi all. I've spent way more time than I should have trying to get a gradient fill to go vertically in Designer. I don't think I've ever before seen a graphics application that offered a gradient fill but lacked any way to control its angle. Even if there is a method buried somewhere in this application, it may as well not exist. It needs to be in the gradient-fill controls. Baffling.
  10. Hi How do I add a 2 colour say red and blue to either replace the sky or over lay or maybe a gradient vignette
  11. Hi guys. Carefully ported gradients from https://webgradients.com/ It may contain some inaccuracies, but in general it is usable. Enjoy. WebGradients.zip
  12. Hi guys, I have created a color gradient in a layer fx (see image) - now I want to copy that gradient somehow or ideally make it a swatch/global gradient. But I don't see how. Thanks in advance, Stefan.

    Gradient and tiling patterns

Whenever I try to use the gradient tool to apply a tiling pattern, this is what I get instead:
  14. It might be useful to have a way to apply a gradient on a curved path, and even a custom path, instead of just a straight line/other preset option.
  15. When creating a Gradient for a Gradient Map, in order to save it the only option seems to be to click the 'Add Preset' button, which adds it as an adjustment preset. The problem is that there doesn't appear to be any way to import/export these presets. I've instead tried saving gradients as Swatches (as Swatches can be imported/exported), but these don't work properly for Gradient Maps. Is there a way to import/export Gradients for Gradient Maps that I'm overlooking?

    smooth gradients

I've tried to create a smooth gradient which - after discovering that dithering is a 'performance' option in the settings and disabling it - looks OK in Affinity Photo. However, exporting the image (apparenly no matter what format) re-introduces the noise and my gradient is once again not smooth: (left: magnification of the gradient as displayed in Affinity Photo. right: magnification of the exported png image) Not being able to completely disable dithering is imho either a bug or a terrible oversight. another thing that seems dodgy about gradients is that sometimes changes to positions or midpoints of pivots don't get saved but reset to their previous setting when saving or switching to another layer. The way gradients work in Affinity Photo's current version is pretty much unusable for me, which forces me to go back to GIMP for this task :(
  17. I've noticed this issue a few times over the past few weeks. I will be adjusting colors and opacity in the gradient panel of Designer when the program will crash. I don't feel like I'm doing anything out of the ordinary, but thankfully everything has been recovered. Gradient tool shortcut persists

Even though I have removed the shortcut "G" from the Gradient tool and assigned it to the Fill tool, I always get the Gradient tool when pressing "G". I then have to press "G" a second time to get the Fill tool. "G" is not assigned to anything else when I look through the shortcuts. I have tried removing Affinity Photo and the .plist file found in Preferences without success. There may be other shortcuts that would cause trouble, but I have not reassigned other tools.
  19. I'm working on a SkillShare tutorial to un-stuck myself and get back in to design. This problem seems silly, but I keep running into little hurdles in Affinity Design that I am having trouble surmounting. The current lesson has the vector watercolor strokes you see in picture one being turned into gradient strokes in picture 2. Picture 2 can probably be accomplished easily with a gradient map, but I'm failing to get the white-to-black transition in either pixel or vector brushes (Designer or Photo). I play with the controller and luminosity settings to no avail — my strokes all look flat and only show lightness or darkness when I overlap them. Suggestions warmly greeted! West Coast Namaste!
  20. PDFs support object masks and gradients, a vector clipping mask applied to a gradient shape in Illustrator CC 2017 exported to a PDF generates a fully vectorized result without resorting to rasterization. On the other hand, Illustrator 1.6.4 cannot export gradient clipping masks/effects/overlays without rasterizing the final result. Unfortunately, because of the nature of JPEG(2000) compression algorithm, gradients are really expensive and it's a very costly tradeoff between file size and quality. Is there a plan to support PDF gradient masks?

    Group Gradients Bug 1.6.1

Struggling to get a gradient to appear across multiple objects within a group. Have experimented with removing sub-groups and changing stroke settings etc.. no difference. See attachment, the items should be mostly red, but instead, they're showing as just the Yellow. Have tried multiple restarts and on multiple laptops with different installs, (but both 1.6.1) -B

    Grayscale gradient image

Why I have this problem with greyscale gradients. Yuo can see on the upper image the gradient is smooth, but when I load that image in affinity photo I get this uneven transition. I have attached the original image.
  23. Hello! A picture probably says more than thousand words. Please have a look at the attached image. I'm trying to recreate this "polygon" look. I know how to create a gradient over several objects by selecting them at the same time. Is it possible to add these artifical "steps" over the gradient's colors? Similar to the orange-to-red gradient in the attached image. Or is it all done manually? If you know any other hints on how to create this or similar polygon looks, I'd be happy to know them as well!
  24. Hi guys, It would be great if when using gradient colors, we could use the COLOR PICKER tool. For example, I have an object that has a gradient color. When I click on one of the handlers, to change one of the colors, if I use the color picker tool, the shape loses its gradient color and turns into the color chosen by the color picker, regardless of the fact that I first clicked on one of the gradient handlers. It would be great if when clicking on a gradient handler, and afterwards selecting the color picker tool and selecting a color, only the color of the gradient linked to the handler I clicked on, will be changed. I was actually surprised it doesn't work like this by default Thank you, Chris
  25. In the Layer styles panel, I would find it very useful to make a gradient repeat itself when applied to something. For example If I have an assortment of colors that are applied to text, if it repeated the gradient I don't have to create an endless pattern of the same colors. With a repeat option it would apply the already set up gradient and repeat it across the span of the entire text object.
