  1. What's the best way to import a path from Gimp? Affinity does not import paths from PSD.
  2. As an avid fan of Formula 1 racing, I practically grew up listening to the great man's commentary alongside his hilarious Murray'isms "Unless I'm very much mistaken... and yes I am very much mistaken," "And now excuse me while I interrupt myself" "The first four cars are both on the same tyres" "Tambay's hopes, which were absolutely nil before, are absolutely zero now" "I imagine that the conditions in those cars today are totally unimaginable" "With half the race gone, there is half the race still to go". Including this TV commercial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93igduisgzY Over the intervening months since his passing earlier in the year, I've been off and on developing this drawing in AD as a personal tribute. EDIT: Please take note that the elaborate Rothman's badge either side of the front wing and back of the foreground figure, is free stock vectorized content. It's inclusion is simply due too the intricate calligraphy that I was unable to replicate accurately although all remaining elements of the drawing is my work.
  3. I have been conversing with several members today about the "lack of" an animation creator/player/editor in the Affinity suite of applications, & I thought I would make a pitch for writing a gif creator/player/editor in Affinity Photo; here goes: Andy shared that he worked for 2 years without success, trying to develop gif creation/player/editor in Affinity Design; it would be easier to develop this feature for Affinity Photo. Just "throwing spitballs at the wall here"; if you approached animation from a pixel application approach like Affinity Photo, it might be easier to "reverse engineer" the code from the Gimp.app (a free and open source pixel application) @ www.Gimp.org than starting from scratch; if I read the tea leaves correctly, the developers at Gimp.org encourage "liberal use & sharing" with no licensing fees required. (I am sure that if you could use their code to write in a gif creator/player/editor and send them a nice donation, that they would be greatly appreciative). I hope that you will at least share this idea with the "dream team" and you guys might put this in the pipeline.
  4. I'm trying to touch-up my Drone photos, but they look horrible in Affinity Photo compared to Windows Preview or even Gimp Here, the original file has a very very smooth gradient coming from that lamp. But as soon as I open the file in Affinity Photo, the glow from the lamp turns in to blocky color bands.. It's almost like it tries to convert it to web-only colors or something because the quality is horrible. (below, you will probably see some banding in your web-browser, it's actually WORSE in Affinity Photo) Download this image and view it locally, to see it without banding. If you still see banding when you open it locally, sorry your monitor sucks
  5. In GIMP, when you import/open an image, you can make your edit(s) to said image and then immediately export it in it's original format with a simple hotkey or with two (2) simple clicks (File > Overwrite "example-image.jpg"). You can see this in the image attached. Please implement this feature or tell me how I can do something similar in no more than 2 actions. It GREATLY improves workflows of this nature. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi there, I recently started with affinity. Now I do have my first problem with that software. I have edit a picture in affinity and exported it as a jpeg (best quality). Using this picture in Wordpress the quality is very bad. see areas on the black T-shirts. Then I opened the exported pic in Gimp and safed it again as a jpg the quality in Wordpress is good. Why is that? Can anybody please help? Thanks! Thomas
  7. Photo & Draw have come a long way in a short time, haven't opened PS in over 6 months. :P any-hoo, the question: When it comes to bump map creation, I do not want to have to add Gimp to my workflow. Gimp has built in tone map and bump map as well as plugin called Insane Bump. (any way to make that plugin work in Photo?) for 3D images, Normal, AO, Specular, and Bump Map layers are used to map onto a surface for realistic effects. In addition; a Displacement Map or Tonal Map for use in milling / CNC relief cutting, and laser engraving. It seems to me that these ends can be achieved with Affinity Designer / Photo, however; my lack of understanding of both CNC and Affinity has me at a loss. Any help?
  8. I was using the beta and was pretty happy until I started looking for frequently used features from Photoshop at work and GIMP at home. Here's stuff that's missing that would help with productivty: Precision guide-making. You have a "manager" that doesn't let you manage much. It'd be nice to be able to edit the exact position of those guides (Let's say I want to quickly set up guides at 25/50/75% in percent mode or just set specific pixel values to each). Even GIMP's got this! "Pattern" layer style is also quite handy for the same reason as the "Fill" layer. [Edit] Solved or has a workaround: Move selected option for the mouse cursor. It'd be nice to be able to tap a layer and then drag an object around without having stuff that's in the way get selected. PLEASE add the option. Ability to duplicate layers between open files (and in the same position if equal size). Ability to create new alpha channels. It's handy for selections or when 3D texturing to be able to use even the A in RGBA images (or in some special cases, remove one of the channels). "Solid color" layer style like in PS (easier to edit than filling a raster layer with color, plus you needn't worry about resizing). Hopefully none of these are repeats since I didn't see them on the list. Thanks for listening!
  9. For Gimp, there's a cool script available that is called Shellout: http://registry.gimp.org/node/24977 This python script will call an external program, providing the active layer or a new from visible layer to this external program via a temp file. Once the external program is completed, it should save/overwrite the original temp file which gets pulled back into gimp. This is extremely useful to use standalone versions of plugins that don't work correctly via the Photoshop Plugin Import in Affinity Photo, for example, some plugins of the Nik Collection. It would be really useful to have such a "Send to standalone and Back after editing"-function, especially if you have some programs that aren't available as plugins but want to keep your workflow efficient.
  10. Due to the market segmentation decisions around the Affinity product line and PhotoPlus products there is no single place to ask a question about both products, so apologies up front for asking about a non-Affinity product here. Hoping some users of this forum have experience with Serif's PhotoPlus line. Two part Question based on my situation – Windows User. As a very happy Affinity Designer Beta user, I know Affinity Photo is coming…I am currently using GIMP which has a steep learning curve I care not to climb because I know Affinity Photo is coming...so how to fill the gap: PhotoPlus X7 is a steal right now…I was thinking it might not only fill the gap until the Affinity Photo Beta, but could be my editor until the the Affinity Photo Stable Release or beyond…should I just get PhotoPlus X7? Thoughts on it? Or is there a totally free photo editor which has a reasonable feature set and good usability that you could recommend to fill the gap until the Affinity Photo Beta later this year? Brak
