  1. I have a document, canvas size is 1920 x 1080 with a number of layers, each containing a photograph larger than the canvas size. The photographs are all in varying dimensions. How does one export each layer to a separate file where each file is the photograph in its original size? All options tried to date, using the Export Persona, will export to a file size matching the pixel size of the original photo, but the viewable part is masked to the canvas size (1920 x 1080). Only work around I've found is to select a layer, copy it, use File --> New From Clipboard and then export that document to a new file. A bit tiresome and awkward for a multi-layer document. FWIW, I can't get a macro set to record the above steps.
  2. In trying to work on a file I'd created, I get a dialog saying that the file can't be opened permission denied. Any idea what that's all about??? Mac OS, Catalina
  3. Hi to everyone! I'm designing a tiny game, a riddle. There will be ten riddles (printed in brochure-print-mode) and ten brochures for hints and solutions. Each page is A7-sized (74 × 105 mm) in landscape-orientation. The brochure will be printed doublesided on A4-cardboard. For paper-saving-reasons I want to print two brochures on one A4-sheet. For timesaving-reasons I want to edit all brochures in one file. Is there a way to archive that? Kind of brochure- and n-up-Print in one step? If not: Is there another solution to my problem? Thank you!
  4. Hello, I am currently trying to open a set of files on my newly updated 1.8.3 Affinity Designer. The message I received was "The file includes features from a later version of Affinity." A part of this set was 18 low complexity images. Out of the 18, I was only able to open 3 of the design files. The other 15 gave the error. I not sure why 3 out of 18 would work as they all used the same design method to be created. I can post a file of design file that worked and a couple that did not. Please let me know what I can do to fix this issue. broken 1.afdesign broken 2.afdesign broken 3.afdesign Example that Works.afdesign
  5. Hello!! Is there a place within Affinity applications to type comments or information about the file (metadata). For example, the workflow that was used, the precise opacity or flow of a brush, a specific color, keywords, etc. etc. Note that I am not referring to EXIF data for photos. (which is refers to the photo, not to the Affinity file). One option would be to create a text layer and make it invisible but I think it would be a much more elegant/simple solution if there was a feature in the "File" menu just as Word or Excel have "Properties" for that purpose. if such feature does not exist, please consider this as an enhancement suggestion. Thanks, Mauricio
  6. I love Affinity on the iPad. The toolset, capabilities, and support is incredible. I would love to see the document browser improved though - I think it’s the main part that slows down my workflow, or causes confusion. The way Affinity stores it’s files feels unintuitive to me, I think it’s because it tries to be too smart. These are the primary issues I’ve identified that affect my workflow 1. I forget where a file is saved - mainly because of the Import vs Open from cloud options. 2. I forget whether a file is saved (linked with no1 - where it saves to upon hitting save because files do not auto-save upon returning to the document browser) 3. I have to open a file to export 4. I cannot bulk select, import, or delete files. To solve some of these, I’ve created the mockups below. Without too change to the core functionality of the browser, I think the best way to solve the issues above would be to reveal a little more meta data to the user through an info panel. No too obtrusive, and revealed upon pressing an ‘i’ button. The key meta data that helps solve no1 & no2: an icon & path showing where the file will save to & whether the file has been saved through pressing the Save button. If a file is new and hasn’t been saved yet, then Last Saved and Saves To can be NA. Being able to see these at a glance enables me to see what I can and cannot safely close, and locate from the files app. A little extra detail like file size helps prepare me for long load / save times. I know no one asks procreate for this kind of metadata, but then again procreate offers a different kind of experience by making all files save inside the app. I know where everything is. With Affinity, I never quite know whether changes are saved, and where my files are (because I forgot). Also multi select for bulk save, import, and close would just be ace! Open to thoughts and suggestions on how this affects your workflow!!
  7. Dear Affinity people, I've encountred a strange behaviour when saving files. I've always thought that the program will offer as a saving location the folder the original file was placed in. But when I open a picture in Affinity Photo, for example, make some adjustments and try to save it or export - it will show totally different location, without much sense. If I save it in some random location, the next time I open another file from a different folder, it will not even offer the last used location for saving - this would still be strange and make some sense but even this doesn't happen. So how exactly does the saving work? Why it doesn't offer the original location first? Thanks. David
  8. Hello, I'm not sure if I'm in the right section, so if not, please direct me to the correct section. Two very important files that will not open. When I open in Affinity Photo, the message I get is "This File type not supported." I created this file in the 1.7 program. I'm currently working with the newest version, which is 1.8.3 Any help would be appreciated. product-template-lg.afphoto product-template.afphoto
  9. Hi, I'm working on Windows10 Pro and I simply cannot open any image file in Affinity Photo (current version, German). Nothing happens but the cooler gets louder sometimes. This happens since, I think, version 1.6x. All former versions worked well... very strange... any idea? Thank you!! Joerg
  10. Can´t open Affiity Photo iPad files (from iCloud) in desktop app. "Can´t open file. This file version is not supported by this affinity-version" ("Die Dateie ließ sich nicht öffnen. /pfad/... Die Dateiversion wird von dieser Affinity Version nicht unterstützt.") Desktop: Version 1.16.11, iPad: 1.8.2 Thanks for your help!
  11. Hey, there's a feature in macOS which I know is quite hidden but it's very very very useful, once you are aware of. Bad enough that it is missing in affinity photo and designer. In all finder windows and most apps which deal with files it's possible to do some basic file handling actions from the window title where the file icon is located. Doing a right click lets you go directly to the path where the file is located. Dragging the file icon lets you move or copy the file to another place. Here's a very quick video attached but you should try this handling yourself and you will see, how it boosts your productivity. Btw. this function exists from the first day of mac OS X. Would be nice if you add this because it's so so basic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-fkYFV7rOY (at 0:59, some other examples exist, but I just had this quickly by hand) cheers Benny FilehandlingSD.mov
  12. I have a new Gen 7 iPad and have installed Affinity Photo on it. I import my Sony raw files to the iPad using a card reader and the Files app, saving the files in a specific folder I've created. If I open Affinity Photo (AP), I can't see any way of opening a file from a Files folder however I can get around this by opening Files, selecting a file and Sharing it with AP. This way it opens up in AP in the Develop persona. I make some edits and then hit Develop which takes me to the Edit persona. I back out of here and I believe AP automatically saves the file in an unknown format somewhere in the AP app. Now if I decide I want to have another go at developing the raw file, I go back to FIles and share it with AP again. This time however it opens up the previously developed file rather than the original raw file. So is this normal? Is there any better way of dealing with raw files so that I do get the option of starting a fresh raw development? I'd be interested to hear what process others use with raw files Thanks Dave
  13. My files : they don't open anymore (many of them) it says (IT:-) ) (You'll find the message attached which translate as such : "Impossible to upload the file. the access to the file has been lost during the initial upload. The file is going to close. " Needless to say that I haven't changed the location of the file nor any of their links. Thank you for helping me out . Best regards, Emilie
  14. Hi there, could someone help me out with this issue about Affinity software? Recently I updated both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo to v.1.7. After the update, when I try to save, it returns me an error message, which you can clearly see in the image I attached. I have my Desktop connected to OneDrive, uploading anything I save on it automatically. I tried to save the file in the "Download" folder, which is not connected to OneDrive, but it gives me the same error. I love software by Affinity, that's why I bought them, but this way I really can't work with them. Ps. Exporting files in other formats (.psd, svg, ecc...) works fine.
  15. Suppose I have 2 documents: document1 and document2: I place document1 into document2. As I place it, may I choose to link document1 into document2 instead of embed it (which occurs by default)? If so, may I edit document1 independent of document2 so that the changes may be observed in document2 in real time? (The same way they would if I were editing changes to an embedded copy of document1, but instead so that the changes are actually occurring to the real document1.) If so, I should be able to use document1 as a or multi-document or application level symbol from which I can link it into other documents so that if I make a change to document1, all documents containing it as a linked object will reflect the change (in real time as well). Is this currently possible?
  16. Please add a feature to save all files from gallery screen at once. I made about 100 designs and its hardly to save every file separat. Greetings Hornisse
  17. Hi guys, I‘ve tried to open images from a network storage on my iPad, but the network section on the left side is missing. With every other app, e.g. Documents by readdle, it works and I have got access to the network. Not with affinity. The white picture is from Affinity, the black one from Documents. Are there any settings inside Affinity where I can activate it or is this feature completely missing? I‘m working on a 10.5“ iPad Pro with iPadOs 13.3 Thank you for your help in advance!
  18. Hello Affinity people! Is there a chance we could see larger file previews in Finder / Path Finder? As of this moment all Affinity files' previews are tiny compared to PDF, JPG and all the other types of files, for that matter. Talking about Spacebar previews. Please check screenshots. Thanks in advance! David
  19. Hello, InDesign has a simple keyboard shortcut for Export: Cmd + E. I still don't understand why did you have to use what is probably the worst shortcut ever - Shift + Alt + Command + S. Only Photoshop uses this shortcut I believe and only for the Save for Web command. But Command + E would be just brilliant for Export, don't you think? And everybody would understand it. Everybody could even guess it right away. And - this shortcut isn't assigned to anything in Publisher right now! And it would be really good to have this same shortcut for Export in all of your programs - Publisher, Designer and Photo. Please. Thank you. David
  20. previously, when i saved a document to the icloud, i could go into the icloud files system and click on that document. it would then open back up in affinity photo. This no longer happens. now i have to use the import function, which creates duplicates when i try to save again and completely messes up my workflow. There is no way to set affinity photo as the default opening software for this file type, for some reason. Is this a problem on affinity photo's end? Is there any way to resolve this?
  21. This may very well be related to a recent system update so apologies if this is nothing to do with Affinity but hoping that someone might have an answer regardless. I updated my Mid 2010 Mac Pro to the latest system it can handle 10.13.6 and I've just noticed that when I go to open a file, if I have the dialogue box set to list view then I no longer get the preview of the file showing at the bottom of the dialogue. Now there is just a thin strip of grey. The only way I can see the files is by going into columnar view (which I don't like using) or by pressing the space bar to preview the images. Problem with that is that the images load very large and so take a lot longer to go through. Was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get that functionality back? If it is Apple that have taken this out then seriously have no idea why as it was really really handy having the image preview at the bottom of the window in list view. Thanks for any help with this. Best wishes, Mark
  22. I'm going to start by saying that I don't fully know if this is a Designer error, an error on OneDrive, or it's just that Files app work on a weird way. Looking forward to some clarification on this, and now onto the problem: Open an Affinity Designer file stored in OneDrive by using the Open from Cloud command, notice the document's Modified date/time Do some changes, doesn't really matter what they are, just enough to warrant a file save Save the file by using the Document > Save command, or by going into the home hub and choosing Save on the document's hamburger menu Go iOS's Files app, notice the file Modified date/time Sometimes the file will be updated and show a new Modified time/date, other times it won't update at all and will show the old time, like the file was never changed/saved If I open the OneDrive itself, or check the OneDrive folder on my desktop, I can confirm no file saves happened, so it's not just a visual glitch Closing the file within Designer and then closing the app itself sometimes triggers a file update, other times not so much... I don't really have anything else more specific to say about this issue. I can't reproduce it consistently, but it does happen very frequently. I also can't trigger the upload consistently, but closing the file & Designer works a significant amount of times. I'm using the latest stable versions of iOS 12, OneDrive and Designer, so no beta software here. Any ideas at all about what's going on?
  23. Some time ago I acquired the affinity software and I am was very pleased with its operation, unfortunately, my work team they still do not decide to change and continue with the Adobe suite. In order not to make the story long, it would seem appropriate for me to add an "section" of export to Adobe Illustrator to affinity designer software. It would help me too much to export directly because my colleagues and boss use A.I and it is difficult to pass them the files that I generate in A.F
  24. This happened to me after trying affinity designer ipad for one week with no problem, suddenly the export won't work. when i try to export artboard(s), it opened the Files App but it looks like Files App got wrong command, no "ok" button (see video). now I'm stuck with export button (in dropdown menu, nit from slice) and it's so annoying because i have to export multiple artboard one by one. i tried reinstalling the Files app but it doesn't get normal, haven't tried reinstalling the affinity designer app. please help. 9A7525E6-43A2-4B66-A202-C8D4E58F49DF.MP4
  25. Hey everyone! I have a lot of files (right now, 128, but there will be a lot more) from Procreate that need minor editing. I would like to save all .pngs flattened and close all files at once, since at the moment, this takes just about the amount of time that I need for actual editing. It would be great if there was a way to save multiple files in the same manner (for example, flattened) and (or) close them with discarding any unsaved changes. Best wishes, Shu
