  1. This may very well be related to a recent system update so apologies if this is nothing to do with Affinity but hoping that someone might have an answer regardless. I updated my Mid 2010 Mac Pro to the latest system it can handle 10.13.6 and I've just noticed that when I go to open a file, if I have the dialogue box set to list view then I no longer get the preview of the file showing at the bottom of the dialogue. Now there is just a thin strip of grey. The only way I can see the files is by going into columnar view (which I don't like using) or by pressing the space bar to preview the images. Problem with that is that the images load very large and so take a lot longer to go through. Was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get that functionality back? If it is Apple that have taken this out then seriously have no idea why as it was really really handy having the image preview at the bottom of the window in list view. Thanks for any help with this. Best wishes, Mark
  2. Hi, I'm working on Windows10 Pro and I simply cannot open any image file in Affinity Photo (current version, German). Nothing happens but the cooler gets louder sometimes. This happens since, I think, version 1.6x. All former versions worked well... very strange... any idea? Thank you!! Joerg
  3. I'm going to start by saying that I don't fully know if this is a Designer error, an error on OneDrive, or it's just that Files app work on a weird way. Looking forward to some clarification on this, and now onto the problem: Open an Affinity Designer file stored in OneDrive by using the Open from Cloud command, notice the document's Modified date/time Do some changes, doesn't really matter what they are, just enough to warrant a file save Save the file by using the Document > Save command, or by going into the home hub and choosing Save on the document's hamburger menu Go iOS's Files app, notice the file Modified date/time Sometimes the file will be updated and show a new Modified time/date, other times it won't update at all and will show the old time, like the file was never changed/saved If I open the OneDrive itself, or check the OneDrive folder on my desktop, I can confirm no file saves happened, so it's not just a visual glitch Closing the file within Designer and then closing the app itself sometimes triggers a file update, other times not so much... I don't really have anything else more specific to say about this issue. I can't reproduce it consistently, but it does happen very frequently. I also can't trigger the upload consistently, but closing the file & Designer works a significant amount of times. I'm using the latest stable versions of iOS 12, OneDrive and Designer, so no beta software here. Any ideas at all about what's going on?
  4. Some time ago I acquired the affinity software and I am was very pleased with its operation, unfortunately, my work team they still do not decide to change and continue with the Adobe suite. In order not to make the story long, it would seem appropriate for me to add an "section" of export to Adobe Illustrator to affinity designer software. It would help me too much to export directly because my colleagues and boss use A.I and it is difficult to pass them the files that I generate in A.F
  5. This happened to me after trying affinity designer ipad for one week with no problem, suddenly the export won't work. when i try to export artboard(s), it opened the Files App but it looks like Files App got wrong command, no "ok" button (see video). now I'm stuck with export button (in dropdown menu, nit from slice) and it's so annoying because i have to export multiple artboard one by one. i tried reinstalling the Files app but it doesn't get normal, haven't tried reinstalling the affinity designer app. please help. 9A7525E6-43A2-4B66-A202-C8D4E58F49DF.MP4
  6. Hi there, could someone help me out with this issue about Affinity software? Recently I updated both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo to v.1.7. After the update, when I try to save, it returns me an error message, which you can clearly see in the image I attached. I have my Desktop connected to OneDrive, uploading anything I save on it automatically. I tried to save the file in the "Download" folder, which is not connected to OneDrive, but it gives me the same error. I love software by Affinity, that's why I bought them, but this way I really can't work with them. Ps. Exporting files in other formats (.psd, svg, ecc...) works fine.
  7. Hey everyone! I have a lot of files (right now, 128, but there will be a lot more) from Procreate that need minor editing. I would like to save all .pngs flattened and close all files at once, since at the moment, this takes just about the amount of time that I need for actual editing. It would be great if there was a way to save multiple files in the same manner (for example, flattened) and (or) close them with discarding any unsaved changes. Best wishes, Shu
  8. I'm wondering if it's at all possible to somehow import an .fla file into affinity. I'm needing to convert this file to either .eps or an .ai file? Finding it very difficult to convert this as I don't have adobe animator and was sent to me to use. ?? Thanks,
  9. Hey, there's a feature in macOS which I know is quite hidden but it's very very very useful, once you are aware of. Bad enough that it is missing in affinity photo and designer. In all finder windows and most apps which deal with files it's possible to do some basic file handling actions from the window title where the file icon is located. Doing a right click lets you go directly to the path where the file is located. Dragging the file icon lets you move or copy the file to another place. Here's a very quick video attached but you should try this handling yourself and you will see, how it boosts your productivity. Btw. this function exists from the first day of mac OS X. Would be nice if you add this because it's so so basic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-fkYFV7rOY (at 0:59, some other examples exist, but I just had this quickly by hand) cheers Benny FilehandlingSD.mov
  10. This will be my first post! - I'm a new user, a hobbyist with a newfound passion for graphic design thanks to your applications. I've been working with Affinity now for about 4 months. I'm in love with this program. It's gotten to the point where I've begun to plan porting projects from other programs into your platform. That being said, I'd like to talk a little about the main screen. I would like to suggest an option for a folder view. I like to keep things tightly organized. My Affinity iCloud folder is very tightly organized, but it doesn't show up in my iPad app. I've set my default save location as my iCloud account. I've noticed that, when I create a file, play around a bit, and delete it, it will remain in my iCloud affinity folder. So, after playing around a bit, I often find a bunch of my "junk" files laying around un organized and untitled. I'd been learning the basics of graphic design with Graphic app, and while it is not as powerful as Affinity, it had a really nice home screen, and the file management was spot on. I took a screen shot of it, and wanted to put it here. When I see this screenshot, I get excited imagining what it would be like if my Affinity app's main screen looked and behaved similiarly. Is there any hope for this kind of option? I mean, I know some people like the masonry/wall scrolling feel, but personally. I'd love to be able to turn on an option, and keep things in folders etc. That's it ladies and gents. Just some folder action. Really into this app! Thank you so much for everything you've done. I have spent hours and hours lying in bed or on park benches drawing, and tweaking, and sketching, and building, and I plan on spending many more hours doing just the same. CHEERS!
  11. Hi there, Is there anyway to stop Affinity automatically savings files within the affinity app? If you export/save the file to the ‘Photo’ folder Affinity creates in the ‘On my iPad’ location in Files, you end up with 2x copies of the same file; one in Affinity and one in Files which isn’t ideal. Also if you open the file from the Files app, a duplicate is opened in Affinity, so you end up with 3x copies at that point. in other apps, the app folder in Files mirrors what is being stored in the actual app itself. Many thanks Charlie

    Huge file size

I love that program! But the file size is huge. Even if the images are just linked, but not embedded, the file will not get smaller. Is there a solution for this problem?
  13. Affinity Team and Community, All of the Affinity Design files that I've saved (not the exported files, the actual files that I can reopen in Affinity Design) can no longer be opened. Instead of having the Affinity logo next to them, it now shows a white piece of paper.. I'm wondering if this is because a day or two before I moved all of the Affinity files. The files that come with the software download were scattered in my Download folder and I wanted them all in one place, so I made an Affinity folder. Inside of that I had one for the Design files that I created, and a separate one for everything else. Now I can't open the Design files and I'm not sure how to fix it. Should I uninstall Affinity Design and reinstall it? I hope I explained this in a way that makes sense. I'd appreciate any insight or possible ways to fix it. Thank you Corinne
  14. hello people, i'm using affinity designer - latest version - and windows 10 with 32 GB ram and a gforce gfx 970 card and it's VERY VERY slow when i'm typing some text or move things around the workspace. is there anything wrong with the gforce or did i miss some settings? in performance settings i switched to gforce 970 and FAST preview setting but it's slow as hell. --------- next thing i didn't find anything in the forum is: i have a few afdesign files and i want to link them in one master file. i created a artboard file and PLACED them. when i want to export this master file is empty. it seems that affinity designer can't export placed (linked) afdesign files to pdf? as soon as i raster those placed files it's working - but i want to keep the ability to edit those placed files. there is no option to write scripts or set "raster everything before export to pdf" button :( is there any solution to it? thanks a lot for helping me out. mike
  15. Hi there, I just purchased affinity and imported RAW (CR2) files but it looks like Affinity doesn't support it. The images displayed on Affinity are pinkish in colour. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the Canon 6D Mark II I had recently bought. I wouldn't think it's the SD card because that would save what type of files we select. There's no issues importing jpeg files. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks in advance. Nick
  16. Hi, I'm using Affinity (both Designer and Photo) while working on a network drive and I've come across the following problem: the server disconnects every once in a while. When it happens, Affinity doesn't really seem to care (no warnings whatsoever), at least not until I try to save the file. Only then I get the attached popup ("Save failed because acces to the file was lost.") and the document closes, even when the server/network drive has been reconnected. It allows me to recover the autosave when I reopen the file, however, since I'm used to hitting cmd+S right after I make some important changes, these are often lost. I think one of these solutions could help – either check if the drive was reconnected / remind to reconnect (that would be perfect), or make an additional autosave before closing the file, or at least give some warning when the connection is lost, not upon attempt to save. Thanks in advance!
  17. I have a lot of trash files that I would like to delete. The Help document on files talks about everything but deleting. What would be the ideal workflow and storage to keep the iPad storage lean? Thank you.
  18. Hello everybody, apologies if this has been asked before, a quick search revealed nothing. I recently downloaded the Affinity Photo app for iPad and am still looking for a reasonable way to access my photos stored on a western digital mycloud. I tried Filebrowser Go and while it handily gave access to the cloud itself it wasn't possible to access files with RAW photos in it. Even more surprising, although one could access "copy to affinity photo" natively in Filebrowser Go the pic would not open. Is there a different file browser people might recommend? Kind regards Daniel
  19. Hey, I've just started using both Affinity Designer and Photo on iPad. I think both apps should better integrate with Apple's "Files" extension/app! This should lead to an easier cross platform and app exchange. The current solution with "open from cloud" and "import from cloud" are confusing and don't work as I would expect. My idea was that using the "open" option it just saves any changes I made directly back to the "Files" app (no matter if the document is located in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, iPad or some other location). There could be a little icon next to the document (in the overview), that indicates that it is linked/located to the "Files" app. So you can easily distinguish between app documents and documents in the Cloud (or any other location). In this case the wording of "close" (in the popup menu of the document overview) would also make more sense. When "importing" the file I would expect that the app creates a copy of the document inside the app. To save it back to "Files" I would have to press the "Save" button in the document overview. I tested it and this isn't the case. What is the actual difference between "open from cloud" and "import from cloud"? The icons are also extremely confusing to spot a difference. Thanks for making great Pro software available on iPad! Cheers! PS: Hope the label translations are right, as I use Affinity in German.

    File connection lost

Hey everyone! Sometimes, the connection to .afdesign files in Files.app is lost. This happens without moving any files. When this problem occurs, saving from within the file will not overwrite the file in Files.app (it seems to do nothing at all) and when saving from outside the file, there will be a duplicate with the " 1" prefix. When trying to access the file in Files.app, it says the file cannot be found. In order to make it work again, "On My iPad" has to be disabled and enabled again to be able to access the file. I'm unsure whether or not you can solve this or if this is an iOS issue. This can be quite inconvenient, since it happens about once every 30 minutes. Best wishes, Shu
  21. Hi, I was recently using the Publisher Beta and unfortunately, lost a bit of (thankfully simple!) work due to a disconnection with my work VPN. We use a VPN to access in-house servers, which has a fairly short timeout period. Whilst working on a Publisher file, the VPN disconnected. When I went to save my work, an error popped up saying that Publisher had lost access to the file (and linked files) and immediately closed. My work was gone and a shock on my face. Whilst common sense would propose saving frequently, is it silly to suggest a failsafe option of switching to the Save As menu when this happens? My project was using linked files, but surely there's a way around this for those accessing work files remotely? Thanks and keep up the great work! Levi
  22. Please help! I'm creating a 16 page file and everything was fine until I restart. What should I do? I didn't want to reinstall because I already had paragraph styles created. Please help.
  23. Hello, good morning, everyone. Excuse my English, it's translated. My problem is this, I have 100 tif files that weigh about 800 MB. I have AF on iPad as my primary photography software. It is clear that if I synchronize these 800 MB by iCloud, I will have to wait a long time to do it. So I tried to do it through iTunes, in shared files to do it through USB and be faster. But what I add here doesn't appear on iPad. I've tried creating a project, and that folder doesn't appear. I added a single file and it doesn't show up either. I'm desperate, maybe as I write this post I would have already synchronized iCloud, but that's not the case. What solution can you recommend for uploading large files in quantity? I will add to this thread a question I asked a long time ago and I think it comes with the same subject. What is the difference between AF MacOS and AF iOS? I was told at the time that the engine is the same, but the image processing is different. In my case, can I trust that AF iOS can give me maximum quality photos for printing? CMYK color outputs, no loss of quality at the time of export, etc.... Or will I have to buy AF MacOS? I hope you can help me and thank you very much. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator
  24. I'm using the drag and drop interface to drop pixel art files (.bmp) from Windows Explorer to work with into a large master file, but when I paste (drop) them the layers depixelate and anti-aliasing appears. I can't tell whether the layers actual contents have been changed or if it is a UI effect but either way, I wish to turn this off. I performed a cursory search of the forums and the Internet but was unable to find anything for Affinity Photo. Here is approximately what's going on: If I copy and paste a range of pixels, the type of layer created is of type "Pixel", but when I drag and drop a file from an explorer window onto a canvas, it creates a layer of type "Image" instead. How do I make new layers made by drag/drop appear as pristine original pixels (like copy-paste) rather than a blurry anti-aliased version of themselves? I don't see a way to change this in the layer settings or in the Preferences window.
  25. I'm wondering if anyone has written anything about the different options for saving and storing Affinity Photo files for iPad? It seems there is a bit of confusion on the topic. I know I've been a bit confused by it but I don't see a whole lot posted here. Perhaps I'm the only one? I'm exploring this a bit because by chance today I was poking around the Settings app and took a look at my iPad's storage and saw that Affinity Photo was using up 22GB! I've got quite a few projects but expected it to be half of that or less. Now, I've got plenty of storage but for anyone that has less or for folks that might want to more easily back-up to a local Mac or whatever, using Files app storage might be better. So I started poking around. As I understand it, by default files are stored within Affinity Photo on the iPad. A sort of hidden storage area which shows up in the documents browser within Affinity Photo. It's not possible to see file sizes from this location. If I choose to save (from the corner widget of the document icon in the document browser) the file is then saved into "On my iPad" in the "Photo" folder on iPad and I can open it up from the Files app. The nice thing about this is I can see the file size and easily copy it to other places with no issues. Also, for someone with lots of projects and clients, the built in Photos document browser can get pretty cumbersome. By moving my projects to Files app I can nest folders as needed, add tags, etc. If there comes a time when I need to transfer/copy many files or a whole folder I can do that simply via drag and drop. What I'm getting at is that there seem to be an opportunity here to offer an app preference for an "On my iPad" Files app based storage as a default rather than the built in storage. For those of us coming from the Mac with lots of projects this might be preferable. Or, if not offered as a possible app preference for default storage/saving location it might be beneficial to highlight it and clarify in documentation. I'm aware that there is a section on saving and storage but it seems a bit too minimal. I'm likely going to turn this into a blog post with a bit more detail and will post a link back here if there is interest.
