  1. Hi, it is possible to insert an affinity-photo file as file layer like the workflow in Clip-Studio-Paint?
  2. Hey community, I'm having issues getting files to stay linked in Affinity Publisher on my iPadOS, using Dropbox. When I link an Affinity Designer file on Dropbox with the Linked Services feature enabled and set up, the files don't stay linked at all. Plus, I'm unable to select other artboards within that particular Affinity Designer file. To provide more context: I was able to succesfully link other file types on Dropbox. iCloud isn't an option for me in this scenario, and I haven't explored it. I have tested the recent 2.2 update, no difference in behaviour, files are immediately marked as missing in the resource tab. This issue hasn't surfaced on either MacOS or Windows. There, linking works fine, and I can also select different artboards after I linked an Affinity Designer file on Dropbox. A speculation I have is that maybe when linking a file within Affinity Publisher on iPadOS, it loads the file just for placement and then deletes it right post-placement, causing the link to break. Given this, has anyone encountered something similar or can offer advice on what might be the culprit? It completely breaks my workflow over different devices. Many thanks for any guidance! Dennis
  3. I am attempting to export just the selected group. This works fine in a different document, but in this one the group gets shrunk to the corner. The canvas page is 100inches by 100inches 300-dpi when I change the drop down to "Whole Document" the pixel changes to 30k by 30k. But if I change it to "Selection Area Only" the pixels change to 110k + ... I am prompted that png can only export at a max of 37k pixels. I then reduce the pixel size to around 7500 pixels, and the preview beings to generate however it is like this (picture) and it exports that way too. furthermore, if I attempting to export anything above 10k pixels it simply just does not load. This is for any file I have, not just this one. I would like to make a large tapestry print for getting a large quality print is important. could this be simply because of my computer processing power? it is a 2018 gaming Asus TUF gaming laptop.
  4. Working with footnotes and sidenotes has been a crash-y experience. I believe there is a bug or two somewhere here. File attached consists of one text frame with 4 columns and some styled text on A4. In that file, I can reproduce the crash consistently by reducing the number of columns on the text frame. This file does not include any pinned images (or any images) so previously proposed workaround does not apply. There were some other user actions that resulted in crash, too, but I have not isolated them. E.g. tinkering with footnote’s gap before would crash Publisher, if I remember correctly. If anyone has some free time to verify if they get the same crash? Thank you! 2023-06-30 crash on footnotes.afpub
  5. How do I open new image files and have them go into a new layer? So far the only way I can get a new image into a layer is to open it, it opens in a new 'project(?)', a completely separate window. Then I select the image, copy, then go back to the project I'm working on and paste it into a layer. There has to be a direct way to just point to a file and have it open in the selected layer.
  6. 7. For everyone who is also looking for this 😁 The actions to manage custom presets are located in the panel menu:
  8. Hi, I've just downloaded the Affinity Designer trial, and am quite impressed. However, I am a design student and my school computers have adobe programs. As far as I can tell, I can't find any way of exporting Designer files as Ai files? I can see the option to export as psd, and I've tried to open Ai files using Designer with no problems - but I wanted to check whether there was a way of exporting to Ai that I had missed. Thanks
  9. Salve, sapete se esiste un buon visualizzatore di file che vede anche quelli salvati nel formato AFDesigner?
  10. Hi, i guess the actual common export dialog still needs significant improvements (all three Applications). I use the Affinity suite mainly for web design and web programming. Overall they do a good job in this area of application. But when it comes to export for web and reproduction of layout with HTML/CSS i often have to switch back to Photoshop, to render the final Bitmaps for use in web. First of all: we finally get a measurement tool !!! I always need to measure the exact pixel values from my design, to finally reproduce/program the exact appearence in CSS. But why only in Designer and not in all three apllications - this is an absolutely basic feature ?! Designers export persona with it's slices is fine for SVG and uncompressed PNG. It also suites for most small (average) images (JPG). And even WebP is now availlable in the export persona as well as in the common file export dialog. Thanks for that😍 But when you have to optimize e.g. huge hero images to a file size as small as possible neither the export persona nor the common file export offer a really handy preview of the resulting image. For lossy codecs like JPG and WebP this is highly recommend, because no preview means time consuming guesswork. Yes, the actual axport dialog offers a simple preview for the bitmap file types with some estimated target file size. But you have no direct visual comparison between original and exported image. Especially when you have to tweak the compression rate to as high as possible for huge images you have to carefully check critical areas. But at the moment WebP does not even allow a 1:1 pixel zoom ??? A good example of how the export dialog might work is the good old Photoshop CS dialog "save for web". Why Adobe marked it as "legacy" is a mystery to me. I still use this since 20 years... What are the key features: 1) You have a side by side preview of the original and the compressed bitmap. The preview areas have a synchronized zoom and pan so you can always see the same image area in original and result. There is a 1:1 pixel:display preview. If you check the typical problematic areas with JPG and WebP (red areas in general, soft gradients like in the sky, artefacts around Text and thin lines) you allways have to tweak the compression strength until it's just visually bearable. No algorithm can do this automatically and every image is different. By the way - the Designer pixel preview (view > split) is rather useless because an A|B split/slider does NOT show the same image area in parallel! You only see the vector OR the pixel preview 🤔 2) The estimated filesize is more prominent. At the moment in Affinity this is somewhat hidden in the upper right panel under the export settings. 3) It should be possible to strip all metadata from the exported file. EDIT OK - This is already integrated for some scenarios: uncheck to strip meta data
  11. Hey I had something crazy happen with infinity designer.. I was using the Fill Tool on my m1 Mac (Metal turned off) and it started getting suuuuuper lagggy, and 5 minutes later my mac told me I had 0 storage left. I checked and found that affinity dropped a 141 GB file into my Mac's private file storage! I resolved this and continued to use the fill tool which lagged a bunch, then poof! Half of my layers started glitching out, they either disappeared or leave weird glitch marks. As i move around the software they dip in and out, but remain gone 90% of the time, Im wondering if there is a way to fix this? I tried exporting and opening the file on an intel Mac. Same issues. Guess the file is "corrupted" even though the layers seem to technically still be there. If anyone has a fix for this or any ideas let me know! Thanks 1872750970_ITISYOURBIRTHDAY.afdesign
  12. Hey everyone, with the all-knowing alternatives to Affinity Suite (and also numerous other unrelated apps/applications), right-clicking on the name of the currently open file in the file window/titlebar allows you to see the location (unless it's a new, unsaved document). In combination with the option »open recent« (which also only shows the file name but not the file path) or the touch bar, which as well displays the last X documents, this would be incredibly helpful. Because … you know … we creatives sometimes forget where the current file or the latest version was saved to. 😅 My next workaround would actually be »Save As…«, which – in other apps – usually can be used to make out the location of the currently opened file. But here too, Affinity Suite seems to have its own way of working, which is not really comprehensible to me, as it shows the location of the previous/last »Save as…« operation, which is rarely the location of the currently opened file. I would be happy if this small feature gets implemented in a future release. 😉 Greetings Dennis
  13. Hey, im working on my portfolio currently which includes a lot of pictures and files and my question is how do I minimize the size of the finished file? It is only allowed to have 10MB if I want to send it to clients but if I export in lower quality you can't see the images very clear. Is there a solution to minimize the size of the finished file to 10MB without losing the sharpness of the images? Thanks
  14. Hi All I understand that Affinity photo does not have smart object creation. The reason for my interest at the moment is to reduce file sizes From my understanding PS smart object allow for photographs of huge resolution to be scaled down to be a more manageable file size but retain the abilit to scale up for creating large 300dpi prints. So say, to be able to work on a 2000x1000px canvas for photo bashing and manipulation, but be able to scale up to a large print output of up to 10000x5000 if required. My (somewhat limited) understanding is this is an ideal use for smart objects in PS. But what do we do in Affinty? Greatful for suggestions. Thanks
  15. Hello moderators, I was working on an Affinity Publisher project and all of a sudden the file is corrupted.. I deleted some texts in that file and wanted to save the altered file. But then there was a warning that the file couldn't be found and it is broken now... After restarting the computer, I can't open the file at all. It says it's corrupt all the time. I read in the forum that it might be possible for you to recover files - it would be amazing of you could try it. The file however is private - would you be able to provide a dropbox link where I can upload it privately? Thank you so much for your time. Best Kathy PS: I found these questions in a different post and wanted to give you the details: 1. Which Operating System are you using? Windows 10 2. Which version of Affinity did the file last get saved in? 1.10.4.1198 3. What drive type was the file last saved to (select more than one if needed)? Local disk 4. Any other information you think would help us try to find the problem? There sadly is no backup..
  16. Hello. I have two different machines (work/home) that I use Affinity publisher on. I have recently run into an issue where any documents authored on one computer cannot be opened on the other. Outside of that i can create new document and edit documents that are "native" to that computer. The moment i try to open one that was created on the other machine Publisher crashes with no error message. Both are running the same version: 1.9.2.1035 The files are saved in the same cloud folder (one drive) and kept in sync on both computers.

  18. I have encountered a problem opening a TIF file in Affinity Photo 1.9 and 1.9.1. I am using Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 on my MacBook Pro. The camera used was the Canon EOS-1D (which is supported by Affinity Photo). The original Canon 4.8 mb TIF file opens with the following dimensions 288 px x 192 px @ 72 dpi in the Photo Persona mode (it does not even try to open in the Develop Persona). When I open the same Canon 4.8 mb TIF file in Adobe Photoshop CS6 it opens properly using Adobe Camera Raw 8.3 to process the raw 4.8 mb file. The dimensions after processing in Adobe Photoshop CS6 are 2464 px x 1648 px @ 300 dpi. If I save the original processed TIF file in Adobe Photoshop CS6 as a new TIF file copy and then open that in Affinity Photo it will open with the same dimensions as Adobe Photoshop I have attached screenshots to show what is occurring in Affinity Photo 1.9.1 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. Please advise as to how this can be rectified (I am new to Affinity Photo). Thank you very much for any help.
  19. 'Export' from Photo - png and gifs are fine, but jpgs only want to 'save as' affinity files. Same problem with Designer.
  20. We have a file that is not opened by Affiinity Photo 1.8.4. It claims to open it, but even in 10 minutes, it is not opened. 378123zip.tif
  21. Is there a way to export native designer files from the ipad designer app without using icloud? When I go to export a design, why is there no option to export it as a native file? why does it have to be converted to some other format?
  22. When I try to overwrite a file that has been locked in finder, I get an error message about insuffient permissions. Reading that, I'd probably inspect the folder permission settings, but doing so I will not find the lock, which is a flag and thus another concept in the filesystem. The error message should reflect that, because file system locks an easily removed by most users, while changing file system permissions often requires an admin user. Additionally; I wish that Affinity Photo warns me on opening an image from a locked file.
  23. Hi, Affinity Photo reads the message "the file type is not supported". System Windows 10 Affinity photo : 1.8.3.641 File : see attached file In the folder only few files are unreadeabled. All the file are read without problem with ViewNX. Best Regards. Yves POUJOL. DSC_4762.NEF
  24. Hi, so recently I have reset my widows, meaning completely removed all files. I backed-up most of my .asdesign files. My problem is that every time I try to save a file, (even a completely blank one) it does let me save it, but after I have saved it, a pop-up saying: And then I click close. It does this with every .asdesign file i save. I can't open the file afterwards either. Then it's just corrupted. I use sRGB btw. I can still open old documents (The ones that I backed-up from before the reset) I've seen 2 other posts about the same message/pop-up, but it didn't match my problem: they tried to open a file. I've reinstalled Designer 3 times and made sure it didn't leave any files. I've tried many things. It really sucks. Here is an example of a file: example.afdesign, but as i said it happens to all files. And this is the 2 pop-ups i get when trying to open fx. example.afdesign Pls help me:) Many thanks. DouVI PS. feel free to ask for any more information, cause I'm desperate and really need this to be solved;)
