  1. Hey everyone! When opening Document, Resource Manager, selecting all files and setting them to linked, my document will still be at 109,3MB file size. In fact, before linking the unlinked images, the file had 108MB. So linking even increases file size by a small amount. The Resource Manager will show them as linked and Publisher will report errors when renaming a file. It just doesn't decrease file size. And even when Publisher cannot fint a file, it is still being displayed, instead of an error frame, which I would expect. Is this a known issue? It seems it shouldn't be since there is a tutorial on the website for this. I am using High Sierra. Best wishes, Shu
  2. Hi, I've just downloaded the Affinity Designer trial, and am quite impressed. However, I am a design student and my school computers have adobe programs. As far as I can tell, I can't find any way of exporting Designer files as Ai files? I can see the option to export as psd, and I've tried to open Ai files using Designer with no problems - but I wanted to check whether there was a way of exporting to Ai that I had missed. Thanks
  3. I just purchased and downloaded Affinity Designer last night. I attempted to open a .ai file with it, and was met with an error regarding permissions. I also tried to save an Affinity project (.afdesigner), which was met with a permissions error as well. The error reads: I am only able to read/save files in my newly created Affinity Designer iCloud storage, which is not the workflow I will be adopting. Before anyone flags this as a duplicate or writes this off, know that I have: Tried saving to/reading from multiple directories within my home directory, not limited to my Documents folder. (eg: ` ~/`, `~/Pictures`, `~/Downloads`) Used CleanMyMac3 to repair my disk permissions (multiple times) Manually reset permissions on my home folder recursively to all subdirectories and files (Right click > get info > Permissions & Sharing) Manually reset permissions on my home folder via terminal Ran First Aid via Disk Utility Restarted my computer (between each step) Cleared Affinity Designer's data by holding down Ctrl while booting Uninstalled and re-installed Affinity Designer I've read that this is related to Apple's sandboxing. Regardless, it seems insane that the program can't interface with my hard drive. My email client, writing apps, and video games downloaded from the app store can, without any issues ever. Why can't Affinity? Also, if this is an App Store issue that is reoccuring, why not make a standalone version... I'd prefer that anyway.... Double bummer because I was so thrilled to be replacing Illustrator with an allegedly superior project at the cost of only $50. Hoping someone can help me.
  4. The file I saved yesterday does not open today. What can be the problem? Also, I didn't notice, the file size looks 0 byte. The file I saved is not available at this time. Despite all warnings, I have worked on an important file It's sad, this is a big problem for me.
  5. Hello Forum, this is my first post so please be easy on me. I just witnessed, after 2 hours of painting, my program force closing. I didn't save my work (I simply forgot it, really stupid I know) and after reopening the program I recovered my file but it was just one layer in there and everything was like when I just started my project. I went into the preferences and checked the File Recovery Interval which was set to 5 mins. so I have to ask: Do you have to activate something else in turn to make the file recovery interval work? I also started a new project and set the interval to 30 sec. and drew a line on my picture and waited 30 seconds to see if the program would save on its own after the time had passed but nothing happened. I'm very upset that my work is now gone and so I want to know what I did wrong so this won't happen anymore. Maybe there's even a way to restore my original file that I simply dont know? Greetings, ElectroPug.
  6. Affinity just crashed as I was exporting. It just shut down and lost my work. Upon reopening Affinity no autosave box came up with my lost work ... any where it could be saved too? Not good at all. Very close to going back to PS. This cannot happen.
  7. So Designer kept crashing every time I tried to use the mask to below option. I found a workaround. It worked for a minute but now it crashes just trying to open the file. I'm using Designer version 1.6.5 Tested it on my other computer and had the same issue. I've got a brand new Dell G5 gaming laptop. I've attached the file as well as the files that are used in it. 8. I am receiving the error message attached about every 5 minutes. I am not using any external storage and I have copied the file to the desktop to try and work from there. Any fix? Thank you!
  9. I have Illustrator CS3 documents where I have work/designs off on the pasteboard (canvas). Is there a way to get to this work/designs when I open them in ADesigner? I realize this is quite the app version jump. Normally I'd just open Illustrator and adjust all those documents so I can see everything in ADesigner, however, due to crappy circumstances I cannot open Illustrator.
  10. I’m not having much success reducing large pano files to small web-size mailable files .... the resamplilng methods given seem to toss out allot of information,, blurring and digitizing details. Is there a way to retain the large file detail, as per PS using bilineal sharpen, etc. Neighboring helps a little, but I’m still blowing out details ... sizing goes from 15,000px wide to 2,000. The original panos look good.
  11. As someone who uses both the Opener app (https://www.opener.link/) and Affinity Designer in iOS, I'd like to have URI action support in Affinity Designer on iOS. This support would allow me to directly open .AFDESIGN files from whatever file system they're in: iCloud, DropBox... while using the iPad and automatically open iOS Affinity Designer with that file (similar to how files can be directly opened in Mac OS).
  12. Hello! Please, make me a hint, when we can expect PNG8 with full alpha? I found myself less working with AD because of lack of this final step that I regularly needs for app and web development, and to keep small file size in AE projects. I searched on forum, and see that this is often requested in last 2 years already. AD have magnificent Export persona mode, that is great for automatisation, and really need this feature.

  14. Hello, It's been the second time that the following error description was shown after I tried to open my file. The first time I simply began the project again, but since the second file produced the same error, I think it's a bug. To give you some context: I was working on a newspaper we had to do for a school French project. I'm working on Windows 10 (64). The error was shown, wenn I restarted the Computer after some hours and tried to continue working on the project. I saved the file on an external hard disk. I wasn't able to find a logfile so I just copied the error warning. EDIT: I uploaded the second file that isn't working and a PDF I created of my first file. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Or is this a bug that has nothing to do with my computer or project but with the application? Thank you for your support. Greetings, Touuubie Zeitung.afpub Zeitung.pdf
  15. Will there be import format options in Publisher. Like many I suspect, I have existing files in other native formats. Most of mine are in InDesign. Will there be a way to import these other formats into the release version of Publisher? Just started looking through the beta and I'm liking a lot of what I see.

    Failed to open File

I have Affinity Designer (1.6.1) installed on my iMacPro (macOS 10.13.4) and I can't open files anymore that I have created just a few weeks ago. I always get an "Failed to open file" error. "This file could not be opened because permission was denied." The file is on a NAS from which I can open it with no problem from my MacBookPro (macOS 10.13.4) no matter wether I connect via NFS, AFP or SMB. I tried to copy the file locally off the NAS, but I still get the same error. I deleted and re-istalled Affinity Designer, but it still does not work. What can I do? Please help!
  17. I’m working on a big project both on Affinity Photo for the Mac and the iPad, and the project file has very different sizes when saved on the iPad vs when saved on the Mac. In this particular case, the project takes up 500+ MB when saved on the Mac, and only ~370 MB when saved on the iPad. My my only guess is some compression is happening on the iPad (lossless, I hope). What is actually going on here?
  18. Hey everyone! I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a limitation of the .psd file type, but when using the layer blend mode "Transfer", opening exported .psd files from Affinity Designer (maybe Photo as well?) will not have the layer blend mode set to "Transfer", nor can I change any layer's mode to "Transfer". Is this layer blend mode specific to Affinity software? (I am using Designer 1.6.0.) If so, is there a way to approximate the effect of the "Transfer" layer mode? I am trying to export files for using in Procreate with the layers not being flattened. Best wishes, Shu

    tif file crash

Hello Affinity, I have managed to crash AFP with a tif file, I have included the file and the screen grab of the error. Regards Chris _DSC0544_artphoto_007569.tif
  20. Hi, When I try to save a file I work on but the original location is no longer available, the file is being forcibly closed without being saved. This happens on every occasion where a location might disappear, like removable drives, disconnected partitions, network drives, etc. It would be much more adequate to offer a save as dialog instead, or at least keep the file open. Thanks! Greetings, Martin
  21. How do I open new image files and have them go into a new layer? So far the only way I can get a new image into a layer is to open it, it opens in a new 'project(?)', a completely separate window. Then I select the image, copy, then go back to the project I'm working on and paste it into a layer. There has to be a direct way to just point to a file and have it open in the selected layer.

    Impossible to open (!)

Affinity Designer 1.5.5: I'm trying to open a file saved 5 days ago in my Mac HD but it says that it was saved with a new version of AD (!)

    FAILED TO OPEN FILE.

I can't open any of my working photos. I get the dialog as attached. Is it that I can't access photos that aren't in my "Photos" folder? And how can I fix it so I can access photos from any of my locations? David
  24. I was wondering if it would be interesting to create space for a notes field in the file properties (I'm aware I'm opening a can of worms there, IMHO there should also be room for data such as creator, company and copyright which then inevitably segways into a discussion about EXIF data too - allow me to stay away from that for now). I've seen someone talk about a description/information layer but that's inside the design, what I'm talking about is the ability to store meta data with the document which describes content, with or without tags and other fun stuff that you could actually search for if the search facility, file system or DAM supports it. At the moment, the only means to store data with a design is to add a box somewhere with some description or rely on a DAM to add external tags to a file which can get lost and which do not travel with the file in a makeshift collaborative environment. Ironically, document properties are a default feature in wordprocessors such as MS Office and LibreOffice which are the one facility that needs it less because you can actually search in the file contents - no such luck with graphics.. Opinion?
  25. I just went to replace an image on an AD document and noticed this new option for Embed/Link. I haven't seen this mentioned on any changelogs - have you accidentally pushed out the feature too early? I also noticed images I tried to rename on my computer were throwing up an error because the file was 'already open in Affinity Designer', so it seems to be working.
