  1. Hi, I'm very much a beginner with Affinity Photo after years of only editing my photos in RAW form in apps like Lightroom and Capture One. What I've always understood is that a JPEG file is the final form, with edits 'baked in'. The idea of adding an HSL or brightness and contrast layer to a JPEG file seems very strange - surely this will push a compressed image too far? I understand adding pixel layers with creative effects or combining images, but what is the expert opinion on adjustments? My expected workflow will still be doing essential edits in a RAW editor, but should I export the end result as a TIFF file, for example, for more creative work in Affinity Photo in order to preserve quality and avoid artefacts?
  2. hello I post this message to try to find a solution to my problem I apologize if this subject has already been treated in another topic I cannot open an affinity desinger file if it was created with a higher version, my university does not update the software for technical reasons and I cannot open my files from these versions. is there an option in the software to maximize the compatibility? If not, is there any software to edit or delete the version of the version on the file? If not, is there documentation on the .afdesign files in order to manually modify the file with an exadecimal editor like notpad ++? thank you for your help
  3. So... first thing is. I love your software. I pay your software. I recommend your software. And I depend on your software! But... "Access to the document´s file was lost while performing..." isn´t something I don´t expect from one second to another from your software! I do save every 5 Minutes, and i do versions when software is new and project is important. But this time 8hours of work are gone. And I am trying to get help here for 3 hours. But maybe your are on BREXIT already ? - nobody is responding I did try every trick I know ... copy and save the file to another drive... rename it... open/ import it into designer or publisher... open it with one of the new betas... NOTHING WORKED! (missing autosave & Incremental save option)
  4. I am doing the graphic design of a game using SVG files I was using Adobe Illustrator CC, but exporting SVG files in AI ruins the gradient, shapes, so I switched to affinity designer The problem is that when I open any SVG file, the color of the vectors looks wrong, pale, without saturation I think it could be because the color settings, and display settings When I export the file as SVG, the colors display correctly in other software, such as inkscape/illustrator (as should be) but not in affinity designer, so yeah, the problem is about displaying the colors in the software correctly _______ These are two examples of the same file open in different softwares - (Affinity open the Affinity file.PNG - SVG screenshot) __ - (Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape or other software or browser open the SVG file.PNG - SVG screenshot)
  5. If you apply to an object a gradient and then add a modification using the transparent tool the result will be one gradient predominating the other after exporting using SVG format Only works if there is neither a gradient or a transparency applied, not both together sample 1.afdesign

  7. Hello, InDesign has a simple keyboard shortcut for Export: Cmd + E. I still don't understand why did you have to use what is probably the worst shortcut ever - Shift + Alt + Command + S. Only Photoshop uses this shortcut I believe and only for the Save for Web command. But Command + E would be just brilliant for Export, don't you think? And everybody would understand it. Everybody could even guess it right away. And - this shortcut isn't assigned to anything in Publisher right now! And it would be really good to have this same shortcut for Export in all of your programs - Publisher, Designer and Photo. Please. Thank you. David
  8. I just purchased and downloaded Affinity Designer last night. I attempted to open a .ai file with it, and was met with an error regarding permissions. I also tried to save an Affinity project (.afdesigner), which was met with a permissions error as well. The error reads: I am only able to read/save files in my newly created Affinity Designer iCloud storage, which is not the workflow I will be adopting. Before anyone flags this as a duplicate or writes this off, know that I have: Tried saving to/reading from multiple directories within my home directory, not limited to my Documents folder. (eg: ` ~/`, `~/Pictures`, `~/Downloads`) Used CleanMyMac3 to repair my disk permissions (multiple times) Manually reset permissions on my home folder recursively to all subdirectories and files (Right click > get info > Permissions & Sharing) Manually reset permissions on my home folder via terminal Ran First Aid via Disk Utility Restarted my computer (between each step) Cleared Affinity Designer's data by holding down Ctrl while booting Uninstalled and re-installed Affinity Designer I've read that this is related to Apple's sandboxing. Regardless, it seems insane that the program can't interface with my hard drive. My email client, writing apps, and video games downloaded from the app store can, without any issues ever. Why can't Affinity? Also, if this is an App Store issue that is reoccuring, why not make a standalone version... I'd prefer that anyway.... Double bummer because I was so thrilled to be replacing Illustrator with an allegedly superior project at the cost of only $50. Hoping someone can help me.
  9. I bought an image off of Shutterstock as an eps and it doesn't seem to be rendering completely in Affinity Designer. I checked to see whether it was just a WYSIWYG issue so I exported it as a JPEG. Unfortunately, the jpeg had the same issues. I Have attached the original Shutterstock file, the Affinity file I have used the eps in. Tried to upload the jpeg to this forum but kept getting upload errors so gave up. shutterstock_615545459.eps Panel_2.afdesign
  10. Please add this option to the export dialogue (file > export): Name the file to be exported by the name of the selection (usualy an artboard or a layer). (I believe the "export persona" does this)
  11. Hi, I've just downloaded the Affinity Designer trial, and am quite impressed. However, I am a design student and my school computers have adobe programs. As far as I can tell, I can't find any way of exporting Designer files as Ai files? I can see the option to export as psd, and I've tried to open Ai files using Designer with no problems - but I wanted to check whether there was a way of exporting to Ai that I had missed. Thanks
  12. This might be a question or possibly a feature request. Is there a way of replicating Photoshop's .PSDT template format in Designer? It's a little feature but it's such a timesaver.
  13. Don't tell me that it's impossible to retrieve files and documents saved on the beta version, as the updates all did until the purchased version? If so is there any way to get access to the beta? Please help!
  14. I am receiving the error message attached about every 5 minutes. I am not using any external storage and I have copied the file to the desktop to try and work from there. Any fix? Thank you!
  15. It is an inadmissible waste of time that when exporting a file, for example tif, always appears 8 bit, when I always export 16bit and have to display the list and change it each and every time. How can I make my default file format appear first in the list? Thank you
  16. Hey everyone! When opening Document, Resource Manager, selecting all files and setting them to linked, my document will still be at 109,3MB file size. In fact, before linking the unlinked images, the file had 108MB. So linking even increases file size by a small amount. The Resource Manager will show them as linked and Publisher will report errors when renaming a file. It just doesn't decrease file size. And even when Publisher cannot fint a file, it is still being displayed, instead of an error frame, which I would expect. Is this a known issue? It seems it shouldn't be since there is a tutorial on the website for this. I am using High Sierra. Best wishes, Shu
  17. Hello Forum, this is my first post so please be easy on me. I just witnessed, after 2 hours of painting, my program force closing. I didn't save my work (I simply forgot it, really stupid I know) and after reopening the program I recovered my file but it was just one layer in there and everything was like when I just started my project. I went into the preferences and checked the File Recovery Interval which was set to 5 mins. so I have to ask: Do you have to activate something else in turn to make the file recovery interval work? I also started a new project and set the interval to 30 sec. and drew a line on my picture and waited 30 seconds to see if the program would save on its own after the time had passed but nothing happened. I'm very upset that my work is now gone and so I want to know what I did wrong so this won't happen anymore. Maybe there's even a way to restore my original file that I simply dont know? Greetings, ElectroPug.
  18. Affinity just crashed as I was exporting. It just shut down and lost my work. Upon reopening Affinity no autosave box came up with my lost work ... any where it could be saved too? Not good at all. Very close to going back to PS. This cannot happen.
  19. So Designer kept crashing every time I tried to use the mask to below option. I found a workaround. It worked for a minute but now it crashes just trying to open the file. I'm using Designer version 1.6.5 Tested it on my other computer and had the same issue. I've got a brand new Dell G5 gaming laptop. I've attached the file as well as the files that are used in it. 20. I have Illustrator CS3 documents where I have work/designs off on the pasteboard (canvas). Is there a way to get to this work/designs when I open them in ADesigner? I realize this is quite the app version jump. Normally I'd just open Illustrator and adjust all those documents so I can see everything in ADesigner, however, due to crappy circumstances I cannot open Illustrator.
  21. I’m not having much success reducing large pano files to small web-size mailable files .... the resamplilng methods given seem to toss out allot of information,, blurring and digitizing details. Is there a way to retain the large file detail, as per PS using bilineal sharpen, etc. Neighboring helps a little, but I’m still blowing out details ... sizing goes from 15,000px wide to 2,000. The original panos look good.
  22. As someone who uses both the Opener app (https://www.opener.link/) and Affinity Designer in iOS, I'd like to have URI action support in Affinity Designer on iOS. This support would allow me to directly open .AFDESIGN files from whatever file system they're in: iCloud, DropBox... while using the iPad and automatically open iOS Affinity Designer with that file (similar to how files can be directly opened in Mac OS).
  23. Hello! Please, make me a hint, when we can expect PNG8 with full alpha? I found myself less working with AD because of lack of this final step that I regularly needs for app and web development, and to keep small file size in AE projects. I searched on forum, and see that this is often requested in last 2 years already. AD have magnificent Export persona mode, that is great for automatisation, and really need this feature.

  25. Will there be import format options in Publisher. Like many I suspect, I have existing files in other native formats. Most of mine are in InDesign. Will there be a way to import these other formats into the release version of Publisher? Just started looking through the beta and I'm liking a lot of what I see.
