  1. Hi, I've just downloaded the Affinity Designer trial, and am quite impressed. However, I am a design student and my school computers have adobe programs. As far as I can tell, I can't find any way of exporting Designer files as Ai files? I can see the option to export as psd, and I've tried to open Ai files using Designer with no problems - but I wanted to check whether there was a way of exporting to Ai that I had missed. Thanks
  2. As someone who uses both the Opener app (https://www.opener.link/) and Affinity Designer in iOS, I'd like to have URI action support in Affinity Designer on iOS. This support would allow me to directly open .AFDESIGN files from whatever file system they're in: iCloud, DropBox... while using the iPad and automatically open iOS Affinity Designer with that file (similar to how files can be directly opened in Mac OS).
  3. Hello! Please, make me a hint, when we can expect PNG8 with full alpha? I found myself less working with AD because of lack of this final step that I regularly needs for app and web development, and to keep small file size in AE projects. I searched on forum, and see that this is often requested in last 2 years already. AD have magnificent Export persona mode, that is great for automatisation, and really need this feature.

  5. Hello, It's been the second time that the following error description was shown after I tried to open my file. The first time I simply began the project again, but since the second file produced the same error, I think it's a bug. To give you some context: I was working on a newspaper we had to do for a school French project. I'm working on Windows 10 (64). The error was shown, wenn I restarted the Computer after some hours and tried to continue working on the project. I saved the file on an external hard disk. I wasn't able to find a logfile so I just copied the error warning. EDIT: I uploaded the second file that isn't working and a PDF I created of my first file. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Or is this a bug that has nothing to do with my computer or project but with the application? Thank you for your support. Greetings, Touuubie Zeitung.afpub Zeitung.pdf
  6. Will there be import format options in Publisher. Like many I suspect, I have existing files in other native formats. Most of mine are in InDesign. Will there be a way to import these other formats into the release version of Publisher? Just started looking through the beta and I'm liking a lot of what I see.
  7. I just purchased and downloaded Affinity Designer last night. I attempted to open a .ai file with it, and was met with an error regarding permissions. I also tried to save an Affinity project (.afdesigner), which was met with a permissions error as well. The error reads: I am only able to read/save files in my newly created Affinity Designer iCloud storage, which is not the workflow I will be adopting. Before anyone flags this as a duplicate or writes this off, know that I have: Tried saving to/reading from multiple directories within my home directory, not limited to my Documents folder. (eg: ` ~/`, `~/Pictures`, `~/Downloads`) Used CleanMyMac3 to repair my disk permissions (multiple times) Manually reset permissions on my home folder recursively to all subdirectories and files (Right click > get info > Permissions & Sharing) Manually reset permissions on my home folder via terminal Ran First Aid via Disk Utility Restarted my computer (between each step) Cleared Affinity Designer's data by holding down Ctrl while booting Uninstalled and re-installed Affinity Designer I've read that this is related to Apple's sandboxing. Regardless, it seems insane that the program can't interface with my hard drive. My email client, writing apps, and video games downloaded from the app store can, without any issues ever. Why can't Affinity? Also, if this is an App Store issue that is reoccuring, why not make a standalone version... I'd prefer that anyway.... Double bummer because I was so thrilled to be replacing Illustrator with an allegedly superior project at the cost of only $50. Hoping someone can help me.

    Failed to open File

I have Affinity Designer (1.6.1) installed on my iMacPro (macOS 10.13.4) and I can't open files anymore that I have created just a few weeks ago. I always get an "Failed to open file" error. "This file could not be opened because permission was denied." The file is on a NAS from which I can open it with no problem from my MacBookPro (macOS 10.13.4) no matter wether I connect via NFS, AFP or SMB. I tried to copy the file locally off the NAS, but I still get the same error. I deleted and re-istalled Affinity Designer, but it still does not work. What can I do? Please help!
  9. I’m working on a big project both on Affinity Photo for the Mac and the iPad, and the project file has very different sizes when saved on the iPad vs when saved on the Mac. In this particular case, the project takes up 500+ MB when saved on the Mac, and only ~370 MB when saved on the iPad. My my only guess is some compression is happening on the iPad (lossless, I hope). What is actually going on here?

Layer blend mode "Transfer" and .psd

Hey everyone! I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a limitation of the .psd file type, but when using the layer blend mode "Transfer", opening exported .psd files from Affinity Designer (maybe Photo as well?) will not have the layer blend mode set to "Transfer", nor can I change any layer's mode to "Transfer". Is this layer blend mode specific to Affinity software? (I am using Designer 1.6.0.) If so, is there a way to approximate the effect of the "Transfer" layer mode? I am trying to export files for using in Procreate with the layers not being flattened. Best wishes, Shu

    tif file crash

Hello Affinity, I have managed to crash AFP with a tif file, I have included the file and the screen grab of the error. Regards Chris _DSC0544_artphoto_007569.tif
  12. Hi, When I try to save a file I work on but the original location is no longer available, the file is being forcibly closed without being saved. This happens on every occasion where a location might disappear, like removable drives, disconnected partitions, network drives, etc. It would be much more adequate to offer a save as dialog instead, or at least keep the file open. Thanks! Greetings, Martin
  13. How do I open new image files and have them go into a new layer? So far the only way I can get a new image into a layer is to open it, it opens in a new 'project(?)', a completely separate window. Then I select the image, copy, then go back to the project I'm working on and paste it into a layer. There has to be a direct way to just point to a file and have it open in the selected layer.

    Impossible to open (!)

Affinity Designer 1.5.5: I'm trying to open a file saved 5 days ago in my Mac HD but it says that it was saved with a new version of AD (!)

    FAILED TO OPEN FILE.

I can't open any of my working photos. I get the dialog as attached. Is it that I can't access photos that aren't in my "Photos" folder? And how can I fix it so I can access photos from any of my locations? David
  16. I was wondering if it would be interesting to create space for a notes field in the file properties (I'm aware I'm opening a can of worms there, IMHO there should also be room for data such as creator, company and copyright which then inevitably segways into a discussion about EXIF data too - allow me to stay away from that for now). I've seen someone talk about a description/information layer but that's inside the design, what I'm talking about is the ability to store meta data with the document which describes content, with or without tags and other fun stuff that you could actually search for if the search facility, file system or DAM supports it. At the moment, the only means to store data with a design is to add a box somewhere with some description or rely on a DAM to add external tags to a file which can get lost and which do not travel with the file in a makeshift collaborative environment. Ironically, document properties are a default feature in wordprocessors such as MS Office and LibreOffice which are the one facility that needs it less because you can actually search in the file contents - no such luck with graphics.. Opinion?
  17. I just went to replace an image on an AD document and noticed this new option for Embed/Link. I haven't seen this mentioned on any changelogs - have you accidentally pushed out the feature too early? I also noticed images I tried to rename on my computer were throwing up an error because the file was 'already open in Affinity Designer', so it seems to be working.
  18. Affinty Designer when I press Save and the computer has no access at the moment to the storage medium e. g. in my case the network hard disk. So he gives an error message that he cannot save and closes the unsaved file.... The solution would be: instead of closing the file without saving it, it should simply leave it open. This allows the user to specify a location of his own. System: Windows 10 Affinity Designer: 1.5.3.69
  19. I did not save a recent affinity designer file. Where would I find the recovered version of the file? I had saved a png of the file, but I no longer have the original file, except for the recovered versions.
  20. In the past I (and others reported) had some corrupted files, especially I had for example a crash at program start because of a corrupted AppData-Affinity-Folder, that later turned out to be a corrupt assets.propcol file. I don't have the broken files any longer, but I was thinking about a way of recovering data out of such corrupt files. Is there already a tool or command line switch or other way to try to recover such files? If I think I would manage all my assets and brushes in those files and out of a sudden it get's unusable for the Affinity program, I would go crazy. It would be good to have a tool that could try to read the file and try to recover as much as it could and write a new file with all that could be recovered (keeping and not writing to the corrupt file of course). Maybe rewriting header or stuff like that, or if it can't detect the file from the file itself, that someone can say, hey this was an assets.propcol file for example and then it tries to recreate it.
  21. It is an inadmissible waste of time that when exporting a file, for example tif, always appears 8 bit, when I always export 16bit and have to display the list and change it each and every time. How can I make my default file format appear first in the list? Thank you
  22. Hi. Recently I wanted to make an Affinity Designer importer for Unity3D, but I didn't find any documentation about what are the Affinity files and there is no documentation about it. It would be awesome to have some information about them, then we will be able to add some more plugins and importers and extend affinity designer. For example, we need documentation for .afphoto and .afdesign files. Thanks.
  23. 1. The Most marketplace is requesting .ai file format, is it possible to export file format to .ai? I hope marketplace slowly can accept .afdesign next. 2. Is it possible to shorten the file format? maybe .ad .afd .afde or other shorther formats. it is just my thinking, may be a further development material. Thank You
  24. Hey everyone! Is it to be expected that exported .png files from Photo are larger in size than those exported using Designer? If I export .png files using the same settings, I get almost twice the file size when using Photo compared to Designer. I attached two files as an example. One is exported from Photo, the other from Designer. Is there a quality aspect to it that I am missing? This can also be observed when just trying to create a new file and save it as .png. In Photo, the file size will be bigger. I am using Photo 1.5.2 and Designer 1.5.5. Best wishes, Shu
  25. The file I was working on since two days just broke after saving it. It is not possible to open it any more - "The file type is not supported." It seems like the file size has shrunk down - but that's just a guess..
