  1. Hi, My first time creating a topic on this forum, please excuse any errors / oversights. Today I encountered this error on Affinity Designer 1.8.5.703 on Windows 10. I had 6 artboards in a file. I created slices and exported jpegs and closed the file. Later on when modifications were done to some of the artboards and ready for exporting slices again, the file kept on crashing when the slices panel was opened. On searching the forums for similar issues reported by others, I came across this (and other similar) thread(s):- I think this issue was addressed earlier, but has resurfaced in this version. I updated Affinity Designer to 1.8.5.703 last Saturday (19th Sept 2020) from the earlier version 1.8.4.x. Since my workflow (almost always) involves creating multiple artboards and exporting slices I can say with confidence that I have never encountered this issue earlier, i.e. since Nov 2019 when I began using Affinity Designer. In the meanwhile, I copied the artwork to a new file and refrained from creating slices. The new file has been behaving OK. Please let me know if you require additional inputs from me.
  2. Lately, I've been using export persona more often due to a project I've been developing. So, I thought it would be more useful than it ended up being. The slices help a lot, but I had to click hundreds of time to assign the same profile to a lot of slices, and I see no reason for an export persona not being optimized to make things faster. #1 - I couldn't duplicate any slice. Duplicating the slices created with the slice tool, allowing me to simply move it around to another part of the canvas, keeping the export settings, would be great. #2 - there's no way to batch rename or batch set a multiplier to the slices' size. I had lots of slices and had to: click, rename, click the arrow, click to type, type "5x", and, then, go to the next slice. The only batch process I could find was changing the format. #3 - why do the slice made from a vector with an adjustment layer inside ends up being giant? If I have a simple square and make a slice from it, it'll keep the proportions. If I have the same square inside a group, and, inside this group, there's anβ€”let's sayβ€”recolor adjustment layer, my slice goes giant. By the way, I'm not here to complain. If I'm wrong in any claim above, please, correct and teach me how to do it properly. I just wanna keep the work flowing with less brute force.
  3. Hi When you export a photo from AP it defaults to the original size of the image. I am trying to create a profile or want default size to be set at my desired size. As many users know posting photos on FB , if the file size is bigger than 2048 px on its longer side then they compress and quality is compromised. I want AP to show me the the size that I have set, at the export window. Is this possible to set a desired photo size and when completed and I am ready to export AP shows me my default size so I don't have to make changes manually.
  4. Hey All! Been working on a template for exporting logo files for clients and thought I'd share it here so we can maybe work on improving it together? FILE: Logo Exporter Template CMYK V1.afdesign The idea is that the export persona is already set up to create folders and files for the different parts of the logo and the different colour models. What works: Folders and colour gamuts are exported easily and swiftly (more on this below) It's easy to resize the artboards to fit a new logo. It saves me a generous amount of time! Cheaper than other plugins for other apps with similar functionalities. πŸ˜‰ -- A few things I'm struggling that could do some help with: 1. File naming The naming convention I am after is the following: "clientname-logoelement-colour-gamut.extension" I managed pretty much everything, by renaming the artboards, and manually updating the export slices. But I can't find a way to replace "clientname" with the name of the afdesign file. 2. Colur gamuts / modes When working form a RGB afdesign file there are limitation on exporting certain files to CMYK - for example EPS only export in the original afdesign file setup. But when working from a CMYK base file (like the attached) the file conversion options are more friendly. A NOTE ON THIS: Although we all know that is best practice to adjust these conversions manually I'm trying to make something that will save me time. Perhaps there is b better way to automate this with the use or symbols or global colours - I'm yet to discover (new to affinity here) 3. Symbols / global colours I'm not very versed on these yet, so would appreciate any suggestions on how using these can help the exporting process, colour settings. Have a go at using it and hope it saves you some time! J.- PS: Dear moderator, if this belongs on a different thread please advice accordingly.
  5. I would like to be able to configure layer visibility for each slice independently. This would help iterating export of many slightly different designs.
  6. Apologies if this was started already as a suggestion. I think that Export Persona should be very useful in Publisher. Imagine trying to negotiate various PDF export options. Being able to PDF only certain pages or exporting pages in other formats would really be great. I know that we have Export command but Export Persona would act as some sort of Presets for a variety of exporting options. This should be a low-hanging fruit for the dev. team as most of the functionality already exists in Export Persona in Designer and Photo.
  7. designer version: 1.8.703 As the title says, creating new artboards moves the position of slices that are contained in other artboards It happens when you use the slice tool (Watch attached video for replication) 2020-11-23_21-31-20.mkv untitled.afdesign
  8. Hi all! The export persona with the possibility to define slices is already a great feature. I'm looking for the possibility to set the aspect ratio per slice independently of the pixel. One slice in 16:9, another in 9:7 ... and then I want select the size/area with the mouse. I don't find this possibility. Can anyone help me? Thanks Manu
  9. So I'm reaching the point of delivering work to the client and need to export to a different drive. I just changed the parent path in a bunch of files and clicked Export Slices and promptly found a new folder called "D" which contained all the exports. I was trying to export to "D:\Dropbox\..." and found the new folder contained a subfolder called Dropbox. On closer examination I find that the path in the parameters section of the slices wasn't as I'd entered it. The colon after the drive letter was omitted. As this was a copy and paste step I knew that it had been entered correctly. After a bit of searching on here I find that this has been discussed before but no resolution proposed. From a UI/UX perspective I've always believed that code should never change the data that a user enters without letting them know that it has happened and why. In other instances this edit box changes the text to red when things aren't quite right but doesn't prevent the text being entered - although still doesn't explain why. e.g. A full stop/period (or two) in Windows is a valid (relative) path. I know I could use links to make this work but I really shouldn't have to. I'm guessing that this is a problem due to the Mac centric development of the application where colons are outlawed in file and pathnames. I'm hoping that because this has been raised before that it is on the roadmap (although I can no longer find that to check). Any chance of any feedback on whether this is likely to be addressed?
  10. Hi all, I have a document (with vector objects only) in Designer that happens to be approx. 7400 by 6200 mm in size. It is a map created with data derived from open street map and I didn't realise that it is that big until I wanted to export it to PDF. I created a slice with 3800 by 3800 mm in size in the export persona and exported it to PDF. The resulting PDF has the same dimension obviously. Is there a way to "scale" down the document on export so that the resulting PDF would be for example 200 by 200 mm in size?
  11. I found a bug in the export person if I used an artboard, after exporting the unwanted element Next I turn on the master file and after exporting. I'm frustrated having to delete this unwanted element 1 by 1 after export to svg.svg before export.afdesign
  12. I have about 90-80 slices in my project (It's and Android app) , and each slice is exported to a number of files (PNG and SVG). When using my mouse wheel scrolling up and down, folding and unfolding my slice to check that the export looks ok Designer freezes. 1. I first created a "master" export setup manually, exporting one SVG file and a number of PNG files in various resolutions to target all DPI:s 2. I used the "copy export format setup to clipboard" 3. I marked all my other slices (except the top one) 4. I used the "Add export format setup from clipboard", so all my slices is exported in the same manner (keeping the slice name unique) 5. Using mouse wheel in the Slices area up and down 6. Unfolded a few of the slices and rolled the mouse wheel up and down fairly quickly 7. Designer freezes, boom. It recovered my file when I restarted though (phew) I also created a crash dump file of the Designer process was frozen and ran it through DebugDiag Crash Analyzer, the report is attached. I suppose I could send my file to the developers if that helps reproducing the freeze, but I rather not post it on the forum Video capture Sometimes the slices are not redrawn properly in the UI, not sure how to recreate this - but here's what it looks like: Video clip with the error . 13. Hi! Is it possible to automatically adjust the size of the slice to the same size as the document? I have several layers and all of them I need to save as separate files with different file formats (some as PNG, some as JPEG, etc.). I need a little bit of support on this case from Affinity Photo community. ;) Thanks in advance for help! :)
  14. Export Persona configure common path is not working. Running Designer app on Windows 10. I type or copy & paste the path into the "Path:" field, but when I export the slice/slices all it does is create folders for the given path locations and saves the JPG slices in the last designated folder location. Shouldn't the app be locating the existing directory path, NOT recreating folders (highlighted in red) for the path entered in the "Path:" field? I noticed in "Path:" field the colon after C (C:\...) does not show up in the path name (C\...) when typed or copy & pasted in. Could that have something to do with it? See attached screen shots. Best, Carl
  15. Question: In Affinity Photo Export Persona, is it possible to set the export path relative to the source document? Issue/situation: I have a small AppleScript setup which creates a predefined folder structure for most of my commercial photo work, and once I'm done editing an image I will need to export it in multiple resolutions. The exported files are always placed in a fixed location relative to the source document and it would be great if there were an option to then export relative to the source document. My folder structure looks as following: Project folder name – 01 Source –– 01 phocus capture –– 02 capture one –– 03 other – 02 process –– 01 focus stacking –– 02 retouch ( export from retouch folder into low res, high res and website ) –– 03 assets – 03 export –– 01 low res version ( low res versions folder, always relative to the source document in 02 process / 02 retouch ) –– 02 high res version ( high res versions folder, always relative to the source document in 02 process / 02 retouch ) –– 03 contact sheet –– 04 website version Operating system: OSX Catalina 10.15.3 Affinity Photo: Version 1.8.3 Any help or input on this matter is much appreciated, as I'm considering moving from other editors to Affinity Photo. Thank you in advance. PS: if this post is in the wrong forum, then please let me know, and I will submit it in another.
  16. In export mode, you can create slices from layers or with Slice Tool, but you cannot modify their size after they are created using any of the tools. You can, however, double click a layer and it will bring up the transform bounding box, which allows you to scale, rotate and move the layer. This does not seem to be intended behavior as at that point, there is no tool selected from the tool menu.
  17. export persona svg if opened in adobe illustrator why is there a box? Unwanted elements in the artboard ? if it's exported manually it will be good I need to export to svg at once a lot
  18. Where are my export configuration presets? I have "Saved" some export configuration presets that I have created to export an image in different sizes, but when I want to use these settings that I have saved, I don't know where they are to choose from to apply to other images. If I know they are saved because when I create a new export configuration preset and give it the same name of the adjustment that I had previously created and saved, I get a dialog box with a message telling me that there is already a setting with that name and if I want to replace it with the new setting. What will be the error? Where do I select the export configuration presets that I have created in Export Persona? Please tell me what am I doing wrong? I hope it is not an Affinity Photo bug. I'll look forward for your answer Thank you
  19. In order to create a Launch Storyboard Image for a iOS app, I need to use a file name like this: Default@2x~universal~anyany.png But at Export Persona is not possible to use this symbol ~ and the file name is convert to Default@2xuniversalanyany.png Please, could you implement the possibility to use this symbol in file names? Thanks.
  20. On the Export Persona of Affinity Designer, I am able to create column guides via the Guide Manager but snapping to them doesn't work. I made sure that snapping to guides is turned on the main toolbar. Snapping to ruler guides does work, yay! I would also like to be able to reposition placed ruler guides by dragging directly over them aside from editing their values on the Guides Manager while on the Export Persona.
  21. When I open Affinity Designer with a new document, Export Persona correctly updates the destination folder for the relevant file. But if I close the document, leave Affinity Designer open, and open a new file, Affinity Designer will export to the directory of the previous file what causes confusion when later searching for the exported files on the hard drive. I am not sure if this is intended behavior or not, if so please ignore this message.
  22. The panel for path component customization/settings suffers from several problems (APh & AD). In the german UI the variable descriptions are partly not readable since cut off, either make the panel wider/bigger or the text for those descriptions smaller, so they are readable. User variables can't be entered here (OSX El Capitan), those text fields are pretty unusable and do stop and block entry after just one character has been inserted. I also pretty much doubt that own defined vars there would be usable and work at all. - Generally the whole panel design there is a nightmare and needs a huge rework. The online help related to these topics is also more than poor and a catastrophic!
  23. Hi all, In Affinity Designer, when I click on `Export slices` (on the Export Persona panel) it always open a system dialog for destination folder. Q: Is there a way to avoid the dialog? Any of the following behaviours would be fine: Choosing the destination folder the first time and remembering it (should be a way to explicitly change it later) Permitting absolute paths and/or current folder (`.`) and parent folder (`..`) in the `Path` option Always opening the dialog for the destination folder but at least defaulting to current project directory (on the first time) or current project last selected export folder Allowing some sort of scripting Thank you for your help.
  24. AD version 1.7.3.481 Hi, I have to create slices from a weblayout to export jpgs. In this case i have picture frames with linked images in a Publisher document, which are exactly positioned/sized on integer pixel values. To export the images for web, i open the Publisher document in Designer and switch to export persona. My typical approach is to select the orginal object in the layers panel and create a new slice by pressing the "new slice (Slice erstellen)" button at the bottom of the layers panel. Example: the object is 480 x 480 px at position 0 / 1850 px. Normally when i create a slice from a selected object the slice directly takes the object/layer name and the EXACT dimensions and position of the original object. Even if i select multiple objects/layers and create all slices in a single shot. But in this case all created slices are some pixels bigger and shifted off. e.g. the created slice from this object is 482 x 482 px at position -1 / 1849 px I have some other big header images in this document at position 0 / 0 px with 1920 x 1080 px. These images produce slices with exact the original values as expected. So what's wrong? Is it because this is originaly a Publisher document, or is it about the picture frames? Unfortunately the slice tool does not snap to any grid or guides, so i have to manually correct all slices in the transform panel. Lot of workarounds and lost time - again... :-(
  25. What I Wish To Do: Export only desired artboards in my document as one single pdf. Each artboard to have its own page in that PDF. I know there have been a few similar topics to this but they differ slightly from what I am trying to achieve. This feature is available in Illustrator CC by doing the following: File > "save as copy" Choosing to save as pdf Then specifying the range of Artboards to be included in the one PDF. (As separate pages of course). I wish to avoid deleting unwanted artboards everytime I wish to export a PDF with only certain artboards included. Otherwise doing File>Export>PDF>"Whole Document" would work, but it's not ideal. Any chance there's now a setting in Export persona that can manage this? Thank you for any input on this.
