  1. Hello, I'm having trouble exporting a design from the Beta version to the stable version. Copying and pasting doesn't work. Making a new file from clipboard doesn't work. Exporting to SVG or EPS resulted in many many issues, such as raster shapes, wrong shapes, etc. Is this a Beta limitation or am I doing something wrong?

    EPS not loading

Hi, I'm using Affinity Designer and Photo, and I figure out a bug using a Mac OS X HighSierra 10.13.6 (memory: 8GB, 1TB HD) The bug: Some EPS files don't open. An example: This file from Freepik - when I try to open this on Designer or Photo, it crashes Mac. If I don't Force Quit, all the system turns into completely unusable. Another bug with EPS: the file open with nothing. Completely white. But it opens good in another softwares. An Exemple is: Alfaparf Milano logo from Brands of the world website The result is exactly the same using Designer or Photo. Best Regards, Anderson Costa
  3. Hi I have problem about file export. I was try to drag file from export page as ”EPS” into shutterstock website but it shown that the file was ”.svg.ps” instead of ”eps”. cheers,
  4. Hello, I just download the free trial for Affinity Designer. I work with a lot of stock artwork, and most of the files are EPS. When I open any EPS in AD, the images are horribly pixelated. Is there a work-around? I'm so tired of Creative Cloud and the total inability to get tech support. Really hoping I can find an alternative! Cheri :D
  5. Hi, I just purchased designer so I can produce vectors for shutterstock. How do I export to eps 8 or 10? Thanks

    EPS import screws document

When importing an EPS from iStock it is completely screwed in Affinity Designer. Please look at the attachment. Do I need to set up any profiles prior to import?
  7. Hi, I've seen other eps topics but none seem to fit my issue. I get eps files from a research client that needs some extra work dome to them. When I use a viewer such as epsviewer I can see all elements, but when I open with AD many elements are gone such as text, solid lines, and the figure legend. Thanks for any help! example.eps
  8. I recently finished a project for a client to test Designer in a production environment. This mostly went quite well until I got a very odd request from the printer. They asked that the files be delivered as AI or EPS with all images linked and provided as separate files. This set off a rather frustrating day of trying to find a way to get the files to the printer as specified. I did get it "working" but it was a very messy process: Export from Designer as PDF Open PDF in Illustrator Manually move all template elements to a new layer Copy out any rasterized elements to Photoshop Save these as tiffs relink the files save final eps I've been trying to figure out a simpler way to do this with just affinity products and I'm a bit stuck. The problem lies with the use of gradients on the strokes. When exported as an EPS from Designer, these strokes are expanded and the gradient is turned into an image fill. This makes it impractical to accommodate the printers needs. Exporting as a PDF still expands the strokes, but at least the gradients come in as unknown vector data. Does anyone know a way I can get Affinity to export the EPS with all elements that it rasterizes as linked? I've attached the file for anyone if they want to give it a go. TuckBox_Final.afdesign
  9. Hello When I export an image with spot colours as TIFF or EPS, the spot colours don't appear in the exported image. It looks like they are converted to CMYK. They do appear in an exported PDF but I haven't checked any other format. Thanks! Bauke

AP 1.6.0 - Cannot open EPS files

Hello, I have several EPS files which I can no longer open since I updated to AD 1.6.0 (MAS version). When trying to open such a file, AD often takes a really long time "loading" the document and afterwards, the only thing I get is a blank page. I can see all the layers in the layer view though. The behavior is the same on all of my machines: Retina iMac 2015, 16GB RAM, SSD with APFS, macOS High Sierra Retina MacBook Pro, 16 GB RAM, SSD with HFS+, macOS Sierra MacBook late 2008, 4GB RAM, SSD with HFS+, macOS High Sierra Is there anything I can do to solve this? Thanks & best regards Oliver Matuschin
  11. Is it possible to export a graphics to .eps without outlining all the paths? I tried different options but any time I open exported file, I can not change it without redrawing all the stuff.
  12. Hi all! I am writing you not as the usually nitpicky and potential Affinity-fanboy-who-lives-off-of-Publisher (I do currently live off of InDesign, so it would be only a matter of time, but things just may take a bit of a turn in my career path soon-ish), but as a prospective full-blown professional type designer and current type design teacher with some serious grievances to air; as you may guess, I recommend Affinity apps for most graphic design related tasks, and even though I vehemently tell all my students to familiarize themselves with type design packages (namely Glyphs.app, FontLab, RoboFont, etc.) and start drawing inside them right away, they are all more familiarised with all-purpose vector drawing packages when they begin studying type design, so, for those who may wish to go that route, I also make a point of explaining to them how to properly size their curves/paths in points, in order to correctly import them into Glyphs.app further on. Now, this usually works fine when using Adobe Illustrator, but when doing so with curves/paths drawn in Affinity Designer, some less-than-optimal results occur, as you can see from the enclosed screenshots. The result will always be the same (on both apps, mind you), either if I paste the curves/paths directly or if I export them into .EPS and import them into Glyphs (actually, Glyphs won't even let me try the latter – and gives me the enclosed error message, whereas .EPS content generated from Illustrator, whether pasted directly from the clipboard or dragged into Glyphs, will work just fine). If I export it from Affinity Designer into .SVG I will be able to import it into Glyphs.app without any missing nodes, but the scale will be way off, thus making the whole process needlessly complicated. I happen to be acquainted with Mr. Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer, from the Austrian type design studio Schriftlabor and the Glyphs.app development team, and I can put you guys in contact with him in order to work on fixing this issue. As for the recently released FontLab VI, I don't own it so I can't get into the compatibility with it for the moment in any authoritative fashion whatsoever. I did give their very feature-complete and stable public beta a go, however, and it seemed the interoperability was even more broken, so maybe you should chime in with Mr. Adam Twardoch from FontLab Inc. on that issue as well (though I'm guessing that FontLab's even more advanced curve/path drawing tools and its focus on über-pros – their app is expensive as hell, after all –, combined with their still less-than-elegant usage of – ugh – Qt, may mean that they don't care much about those interoperability niceties and would rather force their users to always draw inside of FontLab from the get-go). As it stands, Affinity Designer in standalone form (I have yet to test InkScape as a bridging app, but… I'd rather not, as it's even more cumbersome than AI) is completely unfit for type design purposes with Glyphs.app and, as such, I can't recommend it to my students at all, which is a pity because the price bracket and the target audience of both packages seem to be very similar. Do you have any insight as to what may be going wrong here (a non-standard/reverse-engineered or even standard and well-documented .EPS and .SVG implementation, just a bit gone wrong, perhaps?) and could you provide us with a tentative ETA for its resolution? Now, for some explanation on what each of these screenshots mean… Here we have the original outlines, all nice and dandy, without duplicate nodes or anything: And here we have the result of copying said outlines and pasting them directly to Glyphs.app and, as you can see, the scale is indeed correct but we're missing one node: Now, if we try to export a file into .EPS using Affinity and import it into Glyphs.app, we get this error message: Surely we'll get better results if we try using Adobe Illustrator, right? By opening the .EPS file in AI and saving it back, also in .EPS format but with a different name, and importing it into Glyphs, here's what we get, and indeed the results are better, as we get the correct scaling and all the nodes (plus some extraneous ones on the same place where Affinity Designer defined the first/main/closing nodes to be): For the sake of it, let's try saving both .EPS files, in their respective apps, into .SVG format instead and import them back into Glyphs.app… The result on the right was from the file generated in Affinity Designer, and the one on the left from the file generated in AI and, as you can see, AD got the scale way off but finally all the right nodes, whereas AI gave us the same result: Interestingly, if we copy the paths from the .SVG file generated in AI from the .EPS file exported in Affinity Designer and paste them directly from AI into Glyphs.app, we get the best results yet: So, all things considered, it seems the best course of action is to export the artwork in Affinity Designer into .EPS format (and not directly into .SVG, because, as I've just found out and pointed out in the thread title, Affinity Designer seems to mess up with the scaling factor when exporting into .SVG), then opening it on Adobe Illustrator, then saving it into .SVG format and, only then, directly copying it and pasting it into Glyphs.app. It's an effective but extremely convoluted process, which forces you to use AI anyway and kind of defeats the whole purpose of switching to Affinity Designer… :\ For your reference and… forensics, I guess, I am also enclosing the files used in the course of this test: p (generated with Illustrator from the EPS generated with Affinity).svg p (generated with Illustrator from the EPS generated with Affinity).eps p (generated with Affinity).svg p (generated with Affinity).eps test.glyphs
  13. I created some graphic in Affinity Designer and now I would like to send it to someone who uses Adobe Illustrator for further edit. How can I export file from Designer to preserve all objects, group, group/object names and etc.? I tried export PDF and EPS but it's a mess when opened in Adobe Illustrator. Please see screenshots. Is it even possible?
  14. Hey everyone! I just recently obtained AD, and I am completely new to any graphic designer software. I have been using AP for the past couples year though. My question is, how do a enlarge an EPS file and export. When I attempted to do this on my own the canvas does not expand with the image(See screen shot). Any help is appreciated!
  15. I created a flyer in Affinity Designer and I wanted to export it for printing as an eps file. Unfortunately, the resulting file is faulty. The export as PDF is also buggy. Although the result here comes much closer to the actual design than the eps file, there is a bigger problem with the export to vector files. For both files, embedded vector graphics, as well as texts and shapes, are exported correctly, but a photo which serves as a background does not. Please understand that I do not want to post screenshots or even the document publicly in the forum. I would be very happy about a direct contact to the Affinity staff, so I can provide both the Affinity Designer file and the results obtained. Thanks in advance for your help.
  16. Hi There, I purchased Affinity Designer last week and i'm hoping to use it as a replacement for Illustrator in the future. One of the things that i'm testing now is the importing of workfiles, made in Illustrator. The import of AI files goes surprisingly well! All layers that were made can be found in Affinity and non outlined text is editable. I was hoping to archieve the same result with EPS files, but that's not the case: there is only 1 layer with all elements in separated sublayers. And non outlined text is outlined. When i make a new file in Affinity, export it as an EPS and then open the file in Illustrator (cs 5.5), the elements are visible but the document size is not the same as the root document. Also color swatches are not preserved (same goes for importing EPS and AI to Affinity) These mentioned things might become a problem when working with other companies who use Illustrator. But i'm new on this, so maybe you can help me with these questions. Thanks a lot! Marcellus
  17. I am having the same issue as this old beta forum thread. I want to export in EPS but i can not get a transparent background to appear. Is there a way to export in vector format with a transparent bg in affinity?
  18. Hi, I’m loving AD to create my vector drawings. BUT am having trouble when I export a .eps The eps is not readable when I place it in a Quark file prior to saving as a pdf. However same eps can be opened in illustrator and resaved so it then can be placed. But I wanted to move away from Illustrator. I’m wondering if I am exporting the eps correctly, but have tried lots of variations and am at a loss. Thanks ian

  20. Hello, This is very basic as I have just started using Affinity Designer. When I import an EPS file downloaded fro Depositphotos.com, I can't select the objects seperatly. They are all grouped, can't ungroup or select indivudual elements. What am I missing here? Thansk
  21. I am experiencing an issue with AD 1.6.1. I have used a DAUB vector brush to create a sketchy effect on a fill on this logo. I am having problems where the stroke caps and joins are distorting when enlarged over a certain size (est 75mm in width) and rasterised, either directly in the document or when exporting in any format. I understand that these brush sets contain raster elements, therefore must be rasterised on export, but why this is skewing the joins and caps i cannot explain. Weirdly, i have also noticed that the caps and joins change in appearance when i zoom in on the paths, not even resize, just zoom in, they look completely different. Is this a bug with the brush? Am i doing something wrong with my Nodes? Please help!
  22. I bought Affinity Designer as it suggested that I could edit EPS files. I am trialling the program as an option to illustrator, but it appears EPS or AI files cannot be imported correctly, all have gaps between the vectors. Regards JTEE

  24. Hi! My problem is that whenever I export a logo or image to PDF/PNG without a background the image/logo always ends up with black outline. This has become a problem as my clients have come back to me a complained about it. I tried converting font, etc to curves and I have looked at the way I export e.g. Making sure that I my document has that the colour format and dpi match the export. PLEASE HELP!!! Regards Marshall
  25. I open an eps file. But it isn't where I can easily find it. It is way off somewhere not visible. Here are some screen shots to show you what is happening. Question is WHY is it doing this? Can't this be "fixed" so that it is opening in the center? The white area is very very magnified. But look how far I have to zoom out in order to even find the graphic to drag it in to where I can work with it or even see it.
