  1. Hi everyone, I got a question regarding the embedding of files (images, designer-files, etc.). Do I miss something or is it intended that you can't edit the original file but instead editing like an instance of the original instead? I have the following scenario: Graphic artist A: He makes the layout and the design of an ad. (filename: ad.afdesign) Graphic artist B: He takes the ad designed by artist A and uses them in a brochure. (filename: brochure.afdesign) Artist B embeds the ad.afdesign in his file with the 'place image tool'. Artist A makes a change in the file ad.afdesign. Now it would be nice if the ad embedded in the brochure would update, but that's not the case, right? Anything I'm missing here?
  2. Hello designers and support. I've noticed something wrong with embedded .afdesign documents into artboard. In design, I using placed (for example logotypes) documents and after export as JPG or PDF file, those parts are empty, before update everything was fine. I use presets created before and the layers aren't hidden in export persona. What I do wrong? Thanks in advance for any answers.
  3. Hi guys, I need to help; i don't know if this is an Affinity Designer bug or is a my issue: I've a file (X) into there's an embedded file (Y), when i export the file (X) in the space where should be there the embedded icons (Y) there is nothing, do you know why? where am I wrong? Below the example, the icons (Indicated with red arrows) in the file (X) is an ambedded component (File Y), when i export the file (X), the export is without the icons . I hope that someone can help me, thanks! ❤ (Software: Affinity Designer Retail, OS: Windows)
  4. Hi guys. We're really missing the feature to open PDF's with baked embedded fonts. I understand that this feature is why many still clins on to Photoshop, like my self. Please make this feature a reality!? We have been waiting for this for several years now...
  5. Hello there. Why is an embedded document (pdf) not exported unless it is rasterized before? For more Information: I had to create a banner with the logos of sponsors. I got them as different types such as jpgs, gifs and one was a pdf file. I've vectorised most of them in case of their small resolution. The PDF file was good so I did nothing with it exept to put it on the banner and resize it to its final height and width. Then I made an export as JPEG where the Logo from the pdf file was missing ??? Why? Is this a bug or do I have to rasterize embedded documents before export? Because on the next try I rasterized it and then ... tada ... all logos on the JPEG File. I tried the same with a new document. I put a PDF File on it and export it as JPEG and the PDF was not put in. I exported it as a PDF File again and it was also missing? I tried this with Affinity Photo and Designer too. Running System Windows 7 PRO Affinity Version 1.6.5.135 Jump_Fitness Logo neu.pdf
  6. Hello! I have imported a couple PSD files into Designer and found them to show up with the “Embedded Document” tag, but I haven’t discovered a way to access the embedded parts of said document. If someone could help me out with that I would be truly grateful!
  7. When placing images onto the page they stay embedded even though they claim to be linked in the control panel. The control panels states 'linked' whilst the layer says 'embedded; therefore not able to add to a library. See snapshot below:
  8. Hello friends, I placed a layered APh file into another file that's a comp. I edited the embedded APh file several times, so my original embedded doc as saved on disk is outdated. I now want to save out the embedded file as it's own file back to disk. When I go to edit the embedded document, Save As… is grayed out. What's the best way to save my file back to disk?
  9. It would be very helpful if I could set "Prefer Linked" as the default when creating a new document [Ctrl]N.
  10. Hi Firstly, great to finally have the BETA!!! Just installed and testing out a few things. Placed a .PSD file perfectly. Strangely, placed a .AFDESIGN file and part of the artwork does not display. It is a logo / branding so I'd rather not share the actual artwork here but I am happy to email directly to Affinity for further investigation. thanks Robin
  11. Kind of a weird title, apologies for that. Create a new document (we'll call it document A). Put some shapes or whatever, doesn't really matter. Save it somewhere. Create another new document (called document B). Place document A inside somewhere. Double-click on the embedded document A object to edit it. The embedded document editor appears. Go to File -> Document Setup... and change the dimensions of the embedded document A object (in the screenshot's case, I made it smaller) Apply the settings and close the embedded document object editor; focus returns to document B. See screenshot for bug (both screenshots show document B) It appears editing the document size doesn't invalidate the parent document B's bounding box rendering around the embedded document A, and shows the old box with the controls and the new box with just a solid line (first screenshot). De-selecting and re-selecting the object shows the correct bounding box (second screenshot).
  12. When I am trying to open a PDF in Photo/Designer with embedded fonts that are not localy installed, Designer/Photo suggests to replace them with a similar installed font. Whe I am openeing the same PDF with Adobe Reader the embedded font are recognized und correctly displayed. Is there any solution on my problem? Thanks George
  13. I have a master document with many artboards (around 100) , each of which represents a page or spread in a graphic novel. Each artboard has one document embedded in it, that represents the editable information where the page or spread is put together. This works well because the master document is relatively simple – I edit the original document that was embedded to make changes, then replace the embedded document. I have to add several thousand speech bubble to the document. I have been creating a symbol that I recreate in each subdocument, placing them, and then replace the embedded document. It occurred to me that creating one symbol in the master document would let me place speech bubbles on every page in one place. Since I often have to balance the flow of the speech in the novel, this is good because I can drag from artboard to artboard, and the symbol will remain connected to the original definition. That way if I want to make changes to transparency of the background, style of border, corner radius etc, I can do so in one place. Even though a speech bubble symbol is in a given artboard, when I double click that item and see the embedded document open up in a new tab for editing, the symbol is not part of it. Why? Even if I accept this behaviour, when I then copy a bubble in the master layout, and then go to the embedded document tab, pasting it in leaves it not in the original position, and not to the same scale as it was. This seems weird, and unhelpful. Even accepting the limits on Symbols, why can't they at least remember scale and position information when copied and pasted to another doc?
  14. Since AD doesn't have an option to "save embedded document as" (pretty please add this really soon?), I thought I could mimic that by opening the embedded document, selecting all, copy, ctrl+alt+shift+n to create new document from clipboard, and then save. Unfortunately with the attached document that is not possible. Copying the content then pasting it into a new AD document results in a corruption of the contents: not all objects are copied over and their locations are shifted. Chart.afdesign
  15. If I export the attached document as a PDF/x4 in AD 1.6.4, the header image comes out with the wrong colors (unneeded or missing cmyk/rgb conversion). Rasterizing the image first then exporting results in the correct colors. https://dev.neosmart.net/OpenHouse.afdesign
  16. While editing an embedded document, using the cmd/ctrl+s shortcut to "save" the file results in no action taken, i.e. neither the embedded document nor the parent document are saved. Given that it isn't possible to save an embedded document separately from the parent document, this results in a situation where the user thinks the document is saved (as there is no negative feedback/error beep) but the state hasn't been saved to disk.
  17. Greetings. I'd like to request, if it's possible, adding a colour line in the layers tab for embedded documents. (Like the orange line on the left of the symbols in Affinity Designer). Thank you very much.
  18. Hello, I have a logo in PDF vector format, placed in two documents as embedded object. Everything is cool, but in one document i need this logo in black, and in another I need this logo in white. How can I freeze embedded document in my design document, so I could edit it color without editing original document? Please help, P.
  19. Hello and a Merry Christmas to all in the Forum, I've been trying to find a good workflow for using Affinity Designer in my projects. I am fascinated by the embedded documents feature. Saw a couple of videos of how to live edit documents in documents but I want to do something different. I want to create a document with different artbords and place/embbed/link (?) this document in SEVERAL other documents. (It's UX Design - each artbord presents a different screenshot and the other documents are Usage Mockups, Adds and a User-Manual) Then I want to modify the First Document (UX-Artboards) and then make the other documents update to these changes. Can't find the button. Or do I have to use "replace" each and every time?
  20. Hi , another question, or suggestion from my students. I was asked, if there´s a way, to easy right click or script for example, to get an option to export a chosen layer or group to get converted to an embedded object. At the moment as far as i know there´s only the possibility to place a document as an embedded file. but it also would be good in some cases to be able to convert an existing layer to an embedded object. thanks again for any answer.. Tom
  21. Hello, Guys at SERIF. I have some bad experiences with Affinity Designer. When I embed a pure Affinity Designer vector file in a new project, Affinity rasterizes it in bitmap when exporting to PDF X1a This does not happen when I copy and paste an art from one project to another. Please review the 5 attached files and make the findings. Please, guys, File / Place is fine, but I'd like it if there was File / Link also card without embedded vectors file.afdesign card without embedded vectors file.pdf ASD Concret.afdesign card with embedded vectors file.afdesign card with embedded vectors file.pdf
  22. I'm editing an Affinity Designer file with lots of heavy embedded Affinity Photo files within it. Until today, I was able to double click the embedded files and edit them inside Affinity Designer. A new tab named "EMBEDDED [M]" would open, I would edit what I wanted in whatever persona I needed and then I would close the tab. Suddenly, I'm not able to edit those embedded files anymore. They are properly rendered in the main .afdesign file, but when I try to edit them, Affinity Designer simply crashes. I replaced the embedded files, tried starting a new Designer file, but this bug is not restricted to that one .afdesign, I think it might be related to the file paths, because I changed my directory structure. Is there a way to prevent the crashes? Or to make the embedded files "local"? Or even to "relink" the embedded files? Additional info: all my files are synced to Google Drive. Thanks in Advance!
  23. Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to export an embedded file as a native Affinity file ? I know this can seem like an unusual need but it can occur more times then I'd thought. For now I create a new document with the same dimensions and copy paste the elements from the embedded document in it. It works but that’s not really pretty. The only other way I found is to export the file as a PSD then convert it back to AD but this seems a good way to loose some features and creates inaccuracies. Did I miss something or should it be added to the features requests ?
  24. Hi all, I'm working on a Coordinate Image. In Designer I created several artboards to match my stationery elements, let's say "business cards", "letterhead", logos, mail signature and so on. The resulting file (let's call it ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN) is pretty technical and needs a bit of compositing to be presented to the Client. I decided to create a new file (let's call it PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN), all made of A4 artboards that shares the same backgrounds and my company details, in which I composed the visual presentation for the client, catching elements from ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN. I embedded ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN in PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN. While working on PRESENTATION, I needed to modify and create some new or ad-hoc artboards or elements in ARTBOARD original file. Double click, work on it and then close. Everything's worked fine. BUT the original ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN is not anymore updated, and it is stucked on a version before I embedded it in PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN It had been forked in twos: one stands still as before embedding, and the other is embedded and "ENCLOSED" in PRESENTATION file. So, what if I need to re-use the modified ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN (the updated embedded one) in another file? I mean that if I need to make another PRESENTATION2-SPECIAL-FOR-CEO and want to use the embedded updated one, how can I do that? The original ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN is no more updated (shame on that!!!) and a lot of suff added during PRESENTATION compositing are lacking and it seems there's no way to save the updated ARBOARDS.AFDESIGN out of embedded context. Am I wrong? Is there something I do not understand about it? Is there something missing on embedded management? Thank you so much
  25. This might be feature request, or maybe I am doing something wrong? If I place/embed an AD document into an APhoto document, when I double click on the AD layer in APhoto it opens it in a new document tab also in Photo. My question is - if it is an AD document imported, shouldn't it open it in AD? The Edit in AD option is not available for this embedded document either. (linked documents as opposed to embedded would be nice also, but that's a different topic). Thanks, -damian
