  1. I've been using Affinity designer to make maps for a novel I'm working on. As one would imagine, it is quite time-consuming to draw a properly jagged coastline. What would make easier is if you could draw fractal lines, curves, and shapes like in ProFantasy's app Campaign Cartographer 3. I have attached a mock-up of some examples of what I have in mind for Affinity Designer's equivalent. Firstly, unlike CC3, AD's bézier handles and corner tool would make fractal curves and corners far more versatile. As with the corner tool, fractal lines could be "baked" for more precise node editing. The actual jaggedness of the fractal could be adjusted for softer or harsher coasts depending on the effect one is looking for, and the line could also be smooth but wavy, which would be useful for drawing rivers. I'm sure that there would be many uses for this feature outside of mapmaking, and it would certainly make my job quite a bit easier as CC3's export functionality leaves a great deal to be desired. If fractals were added to Affinity Designer's already astounding features, it would save a huge amount of time when trying to make jagged shapes.
  2. In previous Affinity versions persona options were seen at the top left of my document. In 1.9 they did not appear, and I cannot find any preference that turns them on or off. What am I missing? Thanks. ADDED LATER: I have now come to find that these personas are only in Designer and not in Publisher in which I created my doc. My question above was because *in Publisher* I switched to Designer and did not see the personas there. When I tried to open my Publisher doc in "native" Designer I got an error code t(attached). I then tried to copy/paste my work in the 15-page Publisher into a new "native" Designer doc of the same size. However, the Publisher layer names did not come over into Designer, only the objects without the names that I created in Publisher. Thus I must rename the Designer layers or remake the entire work in Designer. I understand why Affinity cannot do everything we users want, and this is not a complaint. It is, however, a suggestion that you make the above clear to he user in some fashion, i.e., that not all features in "native" Designer are available in the Designer available in Publisher. Thanks to all of you working to make Affinity programs so wonderful for all of us out here.
  3. Hi all, I am trying to recreate creases on fabric using affinity designer (in vector) and I am having a hard time in recreating curved shadows in the creases. I.e. recreate something as in the attached (Curved Shadow), but in a much more complex background (with gradients etc.). The one attached I created using a outer shadow and then setting the fill opacity to 0% (see screenshot attached), but the problem with outer shadows is that if the radius is larger then the offset then you will see the shadow all around the shape (see Curved Shadow without rectangle image) and I had to cover it with another shape the same color as the background to hide the shadows I did not want to see. Having a limitation of the offset>radius appears is a big limitation in my case (want to have a very dark edge with a smooth gradient recreating a larger crease). Also in this image it was simple to cover as the background was a solid color, but in more complex images it is impossible to cover it seamlessly. Also things can get messy pretty quickly... Any suggestion? Did someone else resolve this issue in other ways? I tried with gradients, inner shadow, outer shadow, etc. No good solution so far... [Note: new to vector design in general so be kind to me....] Thanks
  4. Hi, I begin in affinity designer, i use it like photoshop and like Illusatrator, very very usefull app, thanks ! :) I start a drawing in vector mode, and i like to pick up color in my image with alt + clic but the color goes near the pickup tool and i need to double clic on the color to make it active... It is possible when i pick up a color to make it active without double clicking ? Thank you :) Have a good day
  5. Seems to me that if you added the ability to control a mask's transforms without impacting it's content's transform, you'd have the same functionality as the Crop Tool is to the Draw Persona, with one huge advantage: There'd no longer be the conflicting conventions of Masking being represented as happening above a Layer (and the layer coming through the mask) vs Cropping (as it is now) being presented as something happening "beneath" the layer, when it's actually operating much like a mask in that it's sitting above and preventing content outside of itself from being seen. So how to do this with Masking? It looks like the [alt/option] key is going unused when editing the transforms of a Mask (Size, Scale, Rotation) ... except for position, in which case it is being used, for duplicate functionality. Almost a perfect solution, but not quite. Perhaps... I have the solution! Right now, [command + drag] is also doing duplication of an object. Leave that, and give up the [alt + drag] to mask editing independent of content and the problem is 100% solved.
