  1. Is there any tutorial or article on how to decide which Preset to choose for Web Document in Affinity Designer? Especially if you are transferring from Affinity Designer designs to Bootstrap 4 Framework? And what if you are just creating a single graphics asset like logo, header, etc.?
  2. Hi! I lost my Adobe Illustrator from my other computer and had to start over so here I am with Affinity Design. I recently downloaded AD and have been messing around with it lately - I really like it! When I was working with Illustrator, I used to do majority of my designs in Landscape mode, rarely portait (although I will be doing more Portrait for Grade UI Kit!). I have been rotating the artboard but it's getting annoying each time - is there a way I could quickly select Portrait or Landscape mode for a specific artboard? Another side question - I really liked the visual assistance (distance, connecting at exact same anchor spot, middle part of the line, middle alignment of artboard, aligning, etc.) in the Illustrator and I do see it every now & then in AD, but just not as often as it was in AI. Is there a way to change this to increase assistance? Any helpful tips/tricks would be very much appreciated and looking forward to getting better & perfecting my skills with AD! Thank you, Dalton
  3. Hey there, I always forget to check the "Save History File with Document" after creating a new one. I understand, that not everybody wants to save the history by default, because it would make a lot of files a lot larger (I guess so?). But for others it would be nice to have a Checkbox in the (User-)Settings to get the history saved with the document by default when saving a document. Perhaps it would even be possible, to have a "per document"-exception-setting. Greetings, Johannes
  4. Hi everyone, another question of my team, When i open a Document in Affinity Photo, would affinity Photo warn me when the document is allready in use, so two people simultaniously wouldn´t be able to accidentially change the same document and override the other one ? i think for bigger companys this should at last be an option in the settings to turn it on. is it allready possible ? thanks
  5. It would be wonderful if you could pre-define a set of document sizes that you use a lot. For instance, I frequently need to make a document of 940x788, 96dpi and would like to have the "create artboard" option checked. Love to be able to give this a name and have it appear in the dropdown option list
  6. Hi does anyone have any idea how to stop (or disable) the document (canvas) from moving around. It can be a bit annoying when you slightly touch the mouse and it would cause the document to move. This issue also happen when click and hold the mouse to select objects in the document, but when you release it to confirm your selection, the document would sometime jump a little bit. May I request for the next update to allow users to disable the document from moving around? :)
  7. Hi there, I just started with Affinity Photo on PC. I wanted to make a collage; I know how to place the individual images in a new document (canvas) with specific dimensions. When I add the images to the collage (they are screenshots from the desktop), I see the borders of the program I used to open the screen content in the first place, so I recut them already in Photo. When it comes to place these images into the new document (canvas) I created, somehow the borders appear again even though I made the recut. My most important question now is: how can I crop these images inside the document (again), as an image layer or after rasterisation of these? When I use the crop tool in the tool bar left, it would just let me crop the whole canvas, even if I selected the specific layer. And I don't want to use the eraser tool, just crop my selected image after pasting it in the collage-canvas. Thanks for your help!
  8. Coming from the Adobe suite, I'm used to being able to save document setups (dimensions, resolution, color space, margins, bleeds etc.) but I can't find that option in Affinity Designer. It's a real time saver when you frequently use the same document setup (A4, A5, business card).
  9. I created a document in the Affinity Photo app on my iPad Pro. I then saved a copy to my Dropbox. I then tried to open the document in Affinity Photo for the Desktop and I get a message that says "Failed to open document...The file includes features from a later version of Affinity." I was gearing up to use this for my next client project but now am unwilling to take the risk.
  10. Hi, how should I setup a document settings for web page design? I am using macbook pro with 2560 x 1600 px resolution (native 1680 x 1050) and every time, I've made an export, the site was blurred or too big. I've tried every combinations of res and DPI, but no config works :-/ My best try was 1680 x 1050 px, 300 DPI. @1x was ok by dimensions but blurred, @2x was too big. When I use my design in Google Chrome and zoom out to 50% (using @2x export), the result was ideal (fit the screen and no blurred). But I can't making designs like that :-(
  11. The Save History with Document is a brilliant function, that allows to screencast and build clean making-ofs. I noticed though that there's a cap around the hundreds or so; the first steps in the list disappear progressively. On purpose?
  12. When trying to save documents with Layers to Cloud Servers (OneDrive or DropBox), Photo returns an error message and fails to save the document. This is a consistent behavior and is applicable to both TIFF and PSD files. I am not sure if it is because of the layer preservation or the resulting large file sizes (300-700 Mb). Both of the services support files much larger than this, and I have uploaded and synced files as large as 2 GB. Running Photo ver 1.6.3.43 on a 2017 iPad Pro with the latest update of iOS 11 and 460 Gb available memory.
  13. Hello, a few months use Affinity Photo, it is possible to create contact sheets directly or via a plug in ? Thanks
  14. A feature I use very often in Photoshop and which I seem to be missing in Affinity Photo is the option to duplicate a layer from one open document to another. I use this feature on a day to day basis and I think it is very handy. Would be great to have that in Photo. I am a new user so I hope I didn't miss it if it exists already by any chance, but since I didn't find it in the help section I guess it isn't available. Thanks!
  15. When I start a new document with a non transparent background the BG is shown in white ... when adding a pixel layer now BG is shown white but the thumbnail shows the BG in black (or similar). Is this a bug? From my understanding unless the BG is NOT transparent there needs to be some kind of BG colour (and consequently some kind of "layer" containing this colour). Even if only a textlayer is applied the BG is exported as shown (white). Is it some kind of imaginative BG that still is exported but can't be edited nor it is shown in the layers list and where I can't choose the colour of? This seems not easy to understand and somehow inconsistent to me. Maybe I did not fully understand the concept? Cheers, Timo (latest Beta)
  16. When I open a photo for which I'd like to resize the dpi in Affinity Photo, I go to Resize Document and I see the default dpi is 72. When I change the dpi to 150, the pixels adjust accordingly. However, when I export that photo, reimport to Affinity Photo, and go back to Resize Document, it shows dpi as 72 again. Why does it not show 150? Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I want to ensure these are best quality for printing. Thanks!
  17. Hello, I have checked the forum but did not find this rotate issue, when I open any image file and then rotate via document menu and try to export via export persona it saves the file with the original orientation but the image it self will be rotated regardless, have attached image to show what I mean. also you can not undo the rotate and then export the image file as it just makes the rotation problem worse, you need to close and reopen the image without saving thank you for the help regards chris
  18. Is there a way to keep a swatch name when creating a palette from a document, All colours that are created have the document file name followed by a number, Not easy to identify when colours are similar to each other.
  19. Hello I have a question regarding the use of expressions on macros. This is the situation: I have several images with different sizes, and I need to create a macro to change the canvas. Since the images have different sizes, I need to use expressions but somehow I cannot make it work. Let's assume 2 images: Image A: 2100x1000px Image B: 1900x700px I need to add 200px at the bottom of the image. I add the expression +=200 to the height, unlocking the padlock and placing the anchor on top. It works fine but the macro saves the final value (in Image A it would be 1200px) and not the expression. If I apply the same macro to image B, the final image will have 1200px instead of 900px. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance
  20. The inches don't seem to convert correctly. When I set up a document to be 21" x 18" and click pixels, it goes to 6300px x 5400px It should be 3150px x 2700px I tried another way where I set up a document as 21x18", make my design, and export. It exports much larger than 3150x2700px*. It only correctly saves at the correct pixels if I type in the specific pixels, as opposed to the equivalent inches. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? *PS: I thought it might have something to do with the DPI, but when switching from 300dpi to 150dpi** (which is what I need for Spoonflower fabric printing) and toggle back and forth between pixel and inches.... it still shows as 6300x5400px Yes, I know I could just type in the pixels but I was wondering why this was happening. And being able to accurately type in inches would be super easy (not having to figure out the correct conversion) **I think the 6300x5400px is CORRECT at 300dpi... but not at 150dpi. Why does the pixel not change is essentially what I'm asking? Also, 150dpi was not one of the presets on the dropdown menu, I had to type it out. Maybe that's the problem? Does it really matter?
  21. 1. Is there a way to crop the document/canvas/artboard to the exact rectangular area of the selected objects? In photoshop, you could cmd+click on the layer's thumbnail to select the entire object in the layer, then press C to switch to crop tool, and it automatically fits the crop area to the selection, so you get the minimum canvas size that fits the object. How do you achieve this in AD? While it's able to cmd+click on a layer to select the objects, I can't figure out a way to do the cropping for the canvas other than adjusting the document size with numbers. 2. when exporting, the "Area" dropdown menu is greyed out, how do I enable it? Thanks
  22. As AP is not capable of adapting some effects e.g. gaussian blur to a resized document I'm forced to rasterize complex structure with elements that won't adapt. In this case I imported my watermark to a picture. I made it available in high res to be able to adapt it to any docsize that might come up. Before resizing the watermark to desired output dimensions II have to reasterize it for before mentioned reasons. The boundaries of the watermark exceed the document boundaries After rasterizing this object consisting of text and pixel layers the boundaries of the watermark getting cropped at the document edges: leaving the resulting layer in a completely unusable/wrecked state: Assuming that we are facing a bug here (and not a "feature") I'd think it would be good to take a closer look that this behaviour ... Cheers, Timo
  23. Hello, I have a problem with a document in Affinity Designer. I saved it and the artboards were aligned in the right way. Then I closed Affinity Designer and opened it again. Now the artboards are aligned the wrong way round. You find the screenshots below. Thanks for your help! Karl Grotheer
  24. Hi, Sometimes I'm assembling components on a page, but I'm working on a canvas that is sized towards the end result. Is there a way to keep objects dragged off-canvas visible or do I have to switch to a "canvas + artboard" model to keep track of those objects? If, for instance, I create an A4 landscape canvas and drag an object outside the canvas area it basically becomes invisible and can only retrieved by either block selecting the whole area and dragging it on the canvas again or highlighting the relevant layer and dragging it back onto the canvas. Is there a setting for the off-canvas border to remain behind objects dragged off-canvas? Attached: example circle partly vanishing when being off-canvas Cheers!
  25. Using the app's icon as the icon for every document is very confusing. Since it is so easy to implement, please have proper CFBundleTypeIconFiles.
