  1. I am using Designer on a 27" Mac. When I create a new document its window dimensions are small compared to the screen and it is off-set from the top-left corner by several inches. So the first thing I have to do for every new project is move the window and resize it. It seems like the defaults were set for a 13" MacBook. Is there a way for Designer to remember the window size and placement of the last document and use that for new documents?
  2. Hey there, I always forget to check the "Save History File with Document" after creating a new one. I understand, that not everybody wants to save the history by default, because it would make a lot of files a lot larger (I guess so?). But for others it would be nice to have a Checkbox in the (User-)Settings to get the history saved with the document by default when saving a document. Perhaps it would even be possible, to have a "per document"-exception-setting. Greetings, Johannes
  3. hey there. i just got my hands on affinity designer and have allready a question i couldn't find an answer to. in affinity designer you can set up your document with page size and so on, fine. but if i choose, for example an A4 paper and set the background to transparent i get an A4-page that is transparent but surroundet by a black frame all over. if i drag an object on this "black frame" (don't know how to call it), it is no longer visible, and that's pretty disturbing. So is there a possibility to remove that frame so one has this grey and white blocks pattern all over the screen, and only a line to show my document size?? thanks in advance, a random dude
  4. Kind of a weird title, apologies for that. Create a new document (we'll call it document A). Put some shapes or whatever, doesn't really matter. Save it somewhere. Create another new document (called document B). Place document A inside somewhere. Double-click on the embedded document A object to edit it. The embedded document editor appears. Go to File -> Document Setup... and change the dimensions of the embedded document A object (in the screenshot's case, I made it smaller) Apply the settings and close the embedded document object editor; focus returns to document B. See screenshot for bug (both screenshots show document B) It appears editing the document size doesn't invalidate the parent document B's bounding box rendering around the embedded document A, and shows the old box with the controls and the new box with just a solid line (first screenshot). De-selecting and re-selecting the object shows the correct bounding box (second screenshot).
  5. 1. Is there a way to crop the document/canvas/artboard to the exact rectangular area of the selected objects? In photoshop, you could cmd+click on the layer's thumbnail to select the entire object in the layer, then press C to switch to crop tool, and it automatically fits the crop area to the selection, so you get the minimum canvas size that fits the object. How do you achieve this in AD? While it's able to cmd+click on a layer to select the objects, I can't figure out a way to do the cropping for the canvas other than adjusting the document size with numbers. 2. when exporting, the "Area" dropdown menu is greyed out, how do I enable it? Thanks
  6. For over two weeks now my Affinity Photo crashed every. single. time I want to create a new document, drag and drop, create from clipboard, manual settings... nothing works. I deleted the app and reinstalled it twice, I rebooted my Mac a dozen times, during these weeks I've had to work with lower quality programs but I really need affinity photo back. I've been a happy usr for over a year but I just can't get it to work. I've sent the crash reports before but I'm stuck now, I really need to get it to work...

    Copy & Pasting Error

Not sure if this is a known issue, so I apologize if this has been discussed already. I have a new project folder, in that project folder I have (currently) 2 files. My main document which has only one layer at the moment, and a separate photo I'm masking my subject out in. I need to copy the masked layer of the subject into the document with the background. When I select the subject layer, select "copy" and attempt to paste this layer and it's mask into my background document, the layer and it's mask are pasted, but the actual subject in the layer is missing. This is repeatable without change. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
  8. In this screenshot, which of the two tabs is the current document? This problem is worst when there are exactly two documents open. With three, then there's an odd-one-out that is brighter. But with only two, there's no indication whether bright or dark means 'current'. In fact, I'd say brightening the current document's tab is misleading, since if you continue the tab metaphor, the tab with a background colour closest to the canvas (i.e. darker) creates more of a tab-like affordance. This does actually cause me a problem. After a month of using the application quite regularly, I still find myself clicking the wrong tab.
  9. This morning, I loaded a .png file and tried to resize by using Document > Resize. Affinity just ignored it. The value in the width field remained the same. I tried entering a pixel value, a percentage, to no avail. I tried unlocking the layer, and rasterizing the layer, again to no effect. I tried it on a freshly-developed .awr file (Sony raw) and on a .jpg file, again to no avail. I then tried applying one of my macros which does a resize, and this worked fine. Reverting to Document > Resize still did not work. It worked fine yesterday! John

    Document Flip

Hello everyone I'm new to digital design/art, never used any programs other than Affinity. I've been using them in my spare time trying to learn everything I can about them. I've scratched the surface of the tutorials, seems like theres an abundance of them. I've also searched thru the forums to find help with my issue, which brings me here. In AP 1.6.7, in the photo persona, sketching on a blank canvas, I would like to flip the canvas horizontally/vertically, often. I can do so from Document>Flip Horizontally/Vertically at any time and it works flawlessly. My problem happens when I attempt to use the shortcut for this action. When I hit the shortcut key(s) the canvas basically does nothing, and eventually starts to slowly flip blocks of pixels at a time, which can be sped up by moving my cursor over every part of the document that hasn't flipped yet. Sometimes they don't flip at all and I have to go to the Document menu and click flip v/h to get it to right itself again. This happens whether theres one line on the page or a thousand. Occasionally the shortcuts will work after I do it 3-6 times in succession, but will go back to not working correctly after continuing my work. I've gone thru all the tools to figure out this happens when using the paint brush, dodge brush, erase brush, burn brush, sponge brush, blur brush, sharpen brush, median brush, smudge brush, gradient, pixel tool and color replacement tool. Every other tool will allow me to shortcut the canvas flip horizontal and vertical exactly the way I assume it's intended to be, instantly. I haven't messed around with the settings much at all, I did try changing the shortcut keys and reverted back to default when there was no change. There could very well be something I'm missing or not doing right, and I hope someone out there can shed some light on this issue. Thank you in advance for any response. I'm running the latest updates on AP and AD MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3 (17D102) MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M SSD
  11. What I'm missing is a quick way to reduce white space in my Designer documents, that is something akin to "Image | Crop" in Photoshop. Instead, I have to go through Document Setup every time, which is a pain.
  12. Is there a panel which displays basic file information - dimensions, color mode, size on disk etc.? Kill me, but I can't find it anywhere...
  13. I cannot seem to resize a particular document that I have spent a few hours working on. My solution is to create a new document and paste all the elements from the old one. When I go to File => Document Setup, I see that under the Dimensions section, the "Type", "Page Preset", "Dimensions", "Objects will: " and "Resample" controls are disabled (i.e. darkened and uneditable). I cannot seem to figure out why this is so. I tried restarting Designer and re-opening the document and it still is this way. Did I lock the document somehow? I am using the 10 day trial version but I still have some days left in the trial. Designer is great BTW and I want to buy a license at the end of the trial, but for now I need to be able to resize the document. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. It would be wonderful if you could pre-define a set of document sizes that you use a lot. For instance, I frequently need to make a document of 940x788, 96dpi and would like to have the "create artboard" option checked. Love to be able to give this a name and have it appear in the dropdown option list

1.6.5 Crashing on iPad Pro 9.7"

Every time I try to open a document or photo in the latest version of Affinity Photo (1.6.5) it CRAHES. I got the app a few days ago but I can't use it. If this crash isn't fixed in the next few updates, this app definetly wasn't worth $30. The language thing doesn't work, it still crashes. IMG_1588.MOV
  16. I'm aware that the focus of development has not been on essential workflow elements but I seriously beg you to have a look at some of the basic daily work topics for daily work users (it's not features that differentiates AP from PS ... it's workflow!) Taking a closer look at the windows handling: Dragging a window from the docked position to a free floating position leaves the windowns in XXL size instead of adjusting it to the current document size - it's a nightmare! Is there a chance to center the document within an optimised size of the window adapting to the current size of the document (within the current zoom state)? The situation gets even worse since the handles for adjusting the windwsize are active in such a small region that it's extremely hard to resize a window to the desired size. There's probably 2 pixel space that makes the cursor change from horizontal to diagonal and vertical resizing (or simply clicking in an unused space) ... why don't you make handling easier? Why don't you automatically center the document within a given window but leave it to the user to center the document with much effort? I would as well appreciate a button that releases all existing documents from a docked position to a free flaoting position, automatically rezising and cerntering them - what an easy programming task but a big improvement for the users ...if you want to be competitive (you got the features), start with meeting the basic handling requirements! Cheers, Timo
  17. Hi - I really need help here as I don't want to lose a lot of hours working on my document. When I open my file "XXX.afdesign", Affinity Designer (version 1.6.0) is stuck on "Loading 1 document" and my document does not open. It get stuck here. Previously, Affinity Designer crashed when I was using it (I was just moving one rectangle into another rectangle in my artboard). Then, when I tried to reopen my document, I had this "Loading 1 document". It seems this crash has corrupted my document. Has anyone faced the same issue before? Any help would be highly appreciated ! Vincent

    Dark border when closing document

Hey everyone! This happens in both Photo and Designer. Full screen mode needs to be used for this issue to show up. I get a dark border on top of the document view when doing the following: - Opening at least two documents so that tabs show up - Closing those documents - There should be a dark border where the tabs have been Creating a new document and closing it does not get rid of this issue. However, opening just one file and closing it does. So does quitting and restarting the application. Software used: Mac OS 10.11.3 Affinity Photo 1.6.6 Affinity Designer 1.6.0 Best wishes, Shu
  19. Any ideas how to do this? Of course, there is a shortcut for a new layer, but I would like to skip this step. If not possible, maybe something for feature requests like a checkbox in the new documents dialog. Thx!
  20. Why is the resized jpeg image blurry even when the aspect ratio is preserved going to a smaller size?
  21. I created a document in the Affinity Photo app on my iPad Pro. I then saved a copy to my Dropbox. I then tried to open the document in Affinity Photo for the Desktop and I get a message that says "Failed to open document...The file includes features from a later version of Affinity." I was gearing up to use this for my next client project but now am unwilling to take the risk.
  22. Is there any tutorial or article on how to decide which Preset to choose for Web Document in Affinity Designer? Especially if you are transferring from Affinity Designer designs to Bootstrap 4 Framework? And what if you are just creating a single graphics asset like logo, header, etc.?
  23. The inches don't seem to convert correctly. When I set up a document to be 21" x 18" and click pixels, it goes to 6300px x 5400px It should be 3150px x 2700px I tried another way where I set up a document as 21x18", make my design, and export. It exports much larger than 3150x2700px*. It only correctly saves at the correct pixels if I type in the specific pixels, as opposed to the equivalent inches. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? *PS: I thought it might have something to do with the DPI, but when switching from 300dpi to 150dpi** (which is what I need for Spoonflower fabric printing) and toggle back and forth between pixel and inches.... it still shows as 6300x5400px Yes, I know I could just type in the pixels but I was wondering why this was happening. And being able to accurately type in inches would be super easy (not having to figure out the correct conversion) **I think the 6300x5400px is CORRECT at 300dpi... but not at 150dpi. Why does the pixel not change is essentially what I'm asking? Also, 150dpi was not one of the presets on the dropdown menu, I had to type it out. Maybe that's the problem? Does it really matter?
  24. Hi! I lost my Adobe Illustrator from my other computer and had to start over so here I am with Affinity Design. I recently downloaded AD and have been messing around with it lately - I really like it! When I was working with Illustrator, I used to do majority of my designs in Landscape mode, rarely portait (although I will be doing more Portrait for Grade UI Kit!). I have been rotating the artboard but it's getting annoying each time - is there a way I could quickly select Portrait or Landscape mode for a specific artboard? Another side question - I really liked the visual assistance (distance, connecting at exact same anchor spot, middle part of the line, middle alignment of artboard, aligning, etc.) in the Illustrator and I do see it every now & then in AD, but just not as often as it was in AI. Is there a way to change this to increase assistance? Any helpful tips/tricks would be very much appreciated and looking forward to getting better & perfecting my skills with AD! Thank you, Dalton
  25. Hi everyone, another question of my team, When i open a Document in Affinity Photo, would affinity Photo warn me when the document is allready in use, so two people simultaniously wouldn´t be able to accidentially change the same document and override the other one ? i think for bigger companys this should at last be an option in the settings to turn it on. is it allready possible ? thanks
