  1. Standard for Windows modal dialogs is, that they contain an icon based on its type and severity - Error, Warning, Question, Exclamation. However, an Affinity dialogs displayed application icon, but does not say anything about the severity of the operation / decision. The application icon should be in the dialog title
  2. After using Photoshop and Illustrator in Windows for many years, even after months of using Designer and Photo I'm having a hard time getting used to the way the Color Chooser dialog works directly on colors. The fact that all colors are directly applied to the selected object without having to confirm this first is very confusing. I noticed that even on every little colorchange while the dialog is open a new undo-level is created.... The reason why I can't get used to this is: - In Windows dialog-boxes always need users to CONFIRM a change by design. But for some strange reason I don't get or know, Designer is not behaving conform this pattern on the Color Chooser, which is counter-intuitive to me. - The behaviour on dialog windows is even different per type of dialog inside Designer itself. So I noticed I couldn't get used to the alignment dialog, where suddenly there ARE cancel and ok buttons. That's inconsistent behaviour and so is confusing. - I found myself a lot of times confused on how to get the color back I had before I opened the Color Choser (which never works in the end). When I have the Color Chooser open I adjust the color 'till I get what I want, but every click I do creates a new undolevel and I never count the amount of clicks I did in order to know how many undo-levels I have to get back to get the original color back. This would not be a problem when there were just OK and Cancel-buttons in the dialog. This is what I would expect: A color chooser dialog with an OK and a Cancel button. After pressing the cancel-button the color is reset to the color the object had before opening the dialog and changing the color. I don't see any point in creating thousands of undo-levels just when trying out colors in the Color Chooser. I really tried hard to get used to this and use the software all day for the last weeks. Please, please, please, change this!! This is very confusing and inconsistant with the software itself as well as with other windows software. Thanks for considering this!
  3. The Color Chooser dialog does not remember its position between closing and re-opening it. It always appears in the dead center of the screen. Considering how helpful position-memory is, and how the Layer Effects dialog *does* remember its position, I think it's reasonable to request that the Color Chooser do so as well. I'm trying out Designer with the hope that it can replace Illustrator. The software has been wonderful so far, but it's incredibly annoying that the Color Chooser plasters itself over the middle of my work every time I open it.
  4. Open dialog for filename settings has caption "Open". SaveAs dialog for filename settings has caption "SaveAs". Export dialog for filename settings has caption also "SaveAs". This is quite confusing, because the difference between saving in native affinity format, and exporting to another fornat, is considerable. Wouldn't it be more appropriate "Export To"?
  5. Hi! I found unusable slider ranges in macro dialogs. I've got frequency separation and Gaussian blur as (combined) interactive steps in one macro. The sliders in the dialog box are barely usable. I usually need to vary the values between 0 and 20, which is only a tiny bit of range at the left edge. A slider movement of 1 screen pixel causes a change of about '6 px' in the radius, but high accuracy (in a .x pixel range) is mandatory. The range of the high pass radius is 0 ... 100 px standalone, but 0 ... 1024 px in the macro dialog, the range of the Gaussian blur radius is 0 ... 100 px standalone, but 0 ... 1024 px in the macro dialog. With identical range and behavior for standalone and macro dialog use, everything would be fine. Workaround welcome, fix preferred, personal error possible. Best regards, Bernd
  6. The Guides dialog box in not intuitive because it seems one needs to click the page icon next to the Trash every time you want to add a new guide. Far better to have each horizontal field clickable to launch a new guide.
  7. Whenever I use Quick Look to preview a file using spacebar from a save/place/export dialog window, I cant close the preview. It seems that Publisher let's you use spacebar to open the preview, but later it reclaims the spacebar for itself, so i must use the mouse to close the preview. I can see, each time that i push the spacebar to close, that Publisher is using it as drag modifier, despite being in a open dialog. Procedure: File > place… - Select a file and press spacebar to preview - unable to use spacebar again to close preview.
  8. Twice this morning - second time after machine reboot and re-launching the app - after making standard adjustments in Develop persona, I clicked the Develop command button. Normally the progress indicator will cycle through four or five iterations before moving to the Photo persona, but on these two occasions the develop progress dialog continued to loop and never developed the image. The app was effectively frozen and the only way out was to use Task Manager to kill the instance. Lord, I hate random occurrences - so difficult to troubleshoot.
  9. Somehow I've lost my adjustment dialogs for all my layer adjustments. when I add an adjustment such as exposure it shows in the layers panel but there is no dialog to make the adjustment, when I double click the exposure layer it used to bring up the dialog but now when I double click nothing happens. I've reset everything and still no adjustment dialogs. Any help appreciated.
  10. [in this post, I'm guessing the English on-screen text, because I'm using the German version of Affinity Designer 1.5.2.58 on a German 64-bit Windows 7] Strange behaviour 1 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog doesn't immediately transfer its baseline settings to the selected text. Try the following: Create a new document with a block text containing one paragraph spread over two lines, format this text with the paragraph style 'Heading 1', and keep the block text object selected. In the text styles palette, right-click on 'Heading 1' and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog. In 'Position and transformation', change the kerning or character distance in permille. The selected text block immediately reacts and shows the desired changes. Wonderful - that's what should happen. Now change the baseline. Nothing appears to happen. Only when additionally changing kerning or character distance (or anything else), the changed baseline settings become visible in the text object. Sometimes, even kerning or character distance changes in one direction (with the up/down arrows) don't do the trick, but one needs to change these in one and the other direction to make it work properly. Set the baseline to a negative value for the time being (e.g., -24pt), ensure that the -24pt baseline is really working properly, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 2 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog transfers the current text's baseline into its edit fields with the wrong sign. Try the following: Right-click on 'Heading 1' in the text styles palette, and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog again. Though the baseline was previously set the minus 24pt, the edit field now shows a positive 24pt. Changing kerning now by some reason keeps the text's negative baseline intact, though a positive baseline is shown in the edit field. When changing the positive '24pt' baseline to '23pt' with the up/down arrows, nothing seems to happen (see above). Changing kerning additionally now makes the baseline jump from the previous -24pt to a real +23pt. Closing the dialog with 'OK' and opening it again now shows a negative 23pt baseline where a positive one should be shown. Change the baseline to zero and make sure changes are accepted to avoid this confusion for now, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 3 (distance correction): Try the following: Open the dialog again. Note that the baseline is now displayed as minus 0pt, but we will ignore that... The 'distance correction' (or whatever it is called in English) below the baseline is now shown as '0pt', and the two-line text object looks 'normal'. Changing the '0pt' to '1pt' and back again to '0pt' makes the two text lines completely overlap each other, so that the text is unreadable. Changing the distance correction to 'auto' resolves that problem and makes the text appear 'normal' again. It appears that the default setting for the distance correction is 'auto', but that is not what is displayed when opening the dialog. Instead, an apparently wrong '0pt' is displayed, which leads to confusion. Sometimes, after changing the distance correction to some undesired point value, choosing 'auto' from the drop down combo does not transfer 'auto' into the edit field, but leaves the previously entered point value in it, creating additional confusion. Sometimes, even manually typing 'auto' into the edit field and pressing RETURN throws away the manually entered 'auto' text and replaces it by the previously entered point value, making it impossible to ever get the automatic spacing again... Strange behaviour 4 (font attributes): Try the following: Now show the dialog page where one can select the font family and choose a family that has several attributes available, e.g., regular, bold, italic and bold-italic. The font attributes are still set to 'No change'. Now set the font attributes to 'Regular', switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes previously set to 'Regular' appear as 'No change' again. For the second time, switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes display as 'Regular'. Very confusing... Over the weeks of using that dialog, I found even more than the above confusing things with it, which I just didn't care to put into writing. Anyway, this dialog seems to be quite confusing and unreliable to me, with lots of strange side effects that make predicting its outcome rather difficult... Andreas Weidner
  11. Hello, When trying to use the live lighting filter on any type of photo, the dialog box pops up on top of the image and I am not able to move it out of the way. This behavior does not occur when using the lighting filter from the filters menu. I can move that dialog box all over the place. I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. Can you help? system specs as follows; lenovo laptop running win10 with an i7 quadcore 2.6ghz cpu, 16g ddr4 memory and a nvidia gforce graphics card with 4g of memory.
  12. Just bought Photo and I'm loving it. For what it's worth, here is one of the biggest UX problems I've seen. When I create a new Adjustments layer, I am not able to hit 'enter' 'return' or 'esc' to interact with the dialog. 'return' and 'esc' do work predictably when interacting with the live filters dialog. In general, all these dialogs could use a little more clarity. Like the screenshot, one button in most dialogs often has an outline which signifies you can interact with it with return or space bar etc. As far as I can tell this outline doesnt mean anything. It would be great if there was a visually clear default action, and a key to interact with it. For example, 'enter' would submit and dismiss dialog. 'esc' may cancel. See default Mac dialog attached.
  13. I think it would better for the workflow to have the context toolbar as dialog boxes with the specific tool options for each tool on right mouse click, like in photoshop. Maybe also a keyboard shortcut to resize brushes, pencil etc with mousewheel :)
  14. Hi, haven't worked out if this is OS or Affinity, but when choosing a folder from the recents drop down list while in the open file dialog, the upper hierarchy of the folders is missing. I'll often chose a recent folder that is somewhere 'near' the folder that I actually want to open from, and jump up through the folders to get to where I actually want to be - this is obviously not possible when everything above that folder is invisible! Thanks Wayne
  15. Hi! Sorry if this has been requested before. I did a search, but couldn't find anything. The Open File Dialog (and Save As... Dialog) should remember it's size and position. The Save As... Dialog in Separated Mode works as it should (at least in Full Screen). Best Wishes Kristian Bredin
  16. Hello, Having issue with the Open File dialog. I was able to open the first file by navigating through the folders using the cursor keys on my keyboard. However, when opening a second file moments later, the cursor keys did nothing and I was only able to navigate with the mouse. That is all. I thank you. Good day!
