  1. I really wonder why there is no proper way to select points in the Designer persona other than the rectangle. I wish we had a lasso tool that would allow me to quickly select points / lines freely, just like we can select pixels with the lasso tool over there. The rectangle is stiff and why I understand that I can add or remove dots from the selection with keystrokes, nothing beats the speed of drawing around just the points i need in one stroke. From a technical standpoint as I see it: The tool itself is already in the pixel persona - all it takes is an algorithm that works with designer / vector data to find all points inside the area. And it needs an icon / shortcut to activate it. This is needed for both, Desktop and iPad Versions, as it would speed up certain workflows immensely. Especially when using Tablets on Desktop or the Apple Pencil.
  2. Currently, only Affinity's iPad apps allow you to use touchscreen gestures to rotate the document view. Affinity's desktop apps on the other hand, do not support touchscreen gestures for view-rotation, yet gestures for zooming in and out are supported. While there are workarounds for this such as using the ALT+Mousewheel Scroll shortcut and trackpad gestures to rotate the view, these can be cumbersome for those like myself who draw on touchscreens laptops and are used to using gestures for rotating the document view like in many other illustration and art creation apps. Given that prominent art creation desktop apps like Photoshop and Krita allow for touchscreen gestures for document or canvas rotation, and that the Affinity Desktop Suite already supports them for zooming in/out, it feels like an oversight to not support the rotate-view gesture on desktop as well, especially since it is supported on Affinity's iPad apps. If it helps, below is an example of how Krita allows for view-rotation using just a computer's touch screen.
  3. Hi, Newbie here. Wish to purchase software, but before I make the jump, can you help me out with what the scripting options are. I think I read in the forum, scripting was talked about 4 years ago. I am wandering what progress has been made on this front. It comes across, as there still might not be any scripting integration. If there are plans to introduce then a timeline and what language etc, would help, to help me decide my purchase. Many thanks
  4. The help section says : "When publishing to PDF, the Honor spot colors option in the Export Settings dialog (File>Export>PDF>More) lets you include spot colors in your output. You can also make the spot colors overprint in the same panel." Does anyone know where that checkbox is gone (to set spot colors as overprint)? Also the help section says: "To make an existing global color overprint: On the Swatches panel, -click the global color swatch's thumbnail, then select Overprint." But there is no way to make a color overprinting. I get a pop menu with e.g. 'Edit fill' but clicking on that option there is again no option to make that color overprint... Am I overlooking something, or is it really that annoying?
  5. I am not using proper terminology but I want to see images and objects that are not on the page but on the workspace or off canvas on every page in publisher. In Corel Draw is called the desktop and the settings are found in the page palette if someone knows what I mean by that. Thanks
  6. Apps: All Platforms: Windows and macOS New options added in file menu to close all currently open documents. If modified documents are currently open this will result in a prompt as to whether you want to save, with an additional option to Apply to All... The Default shortcut will be assigned as: macOS: ⌥ ⌘ W Windows: Alt + Ctrl + W Expected behaviour on Close All: All unmodified documents should close The last modified document should produce a prompt to save, don’t save or cancel - with an Apply to All... check box option on the dialog. Assuming Apply to All... isn’t checked then it goes through each modified file sequentially where you choose to save or not, still with the option to apply to all remaining documents at anytime. Hitting Cancel at any time stops the operation at whatever point you got to, leaving open whatever documents were left. You should not get prompted to cancel for each open document, and Apply to All... is not relevant to the cancel operation. If you have Apply to All... checked and hit Save: All modified documents which have previously been saved just perform a save operation to overwrite the file and close. All untitled documents give save as prompt, and goes through each one sequentially for you to give a file name / location for Save. If you have Apply to All... checked and hit don’t Save, everything closes with no further prompts and nothing being saved.
  7. Hello everyone. This is my first time sharing something on the forum. I've been using the affinity designer V2 since its launch and I'm very comfortable working with it. It has made my work process much easier, and right now I feel hooked on it. I just wanted to share some illustrations of this last month with you and show my work process in the video. The serie is not finished yet but you can get and idea of how it goes... Best regards
  8. Question: In Affinity Photo Export Persona, is it possible to set the export path relative to the source document? Issue/situation: I have a small AppleScript setup which creates a predefined folder structure for most of my commercial photo work, and once I'm done editing an image I will need to export it in multiple resolutions. The exported files are always placed in a fixed location relative to the source document and it would be great if there were an option to then export relative to the source document. My folder structure looks as following: Project folder name – 01 Source –– 01 phocus capture –– 02 capture one –– 03 other – 02 process –– 01 focus stacking –– 02 retouch ( export from retouch folder into low res, high res and website ) –– 03 assets – 03 export –– 01 low res version ( low res versions folder, always relative to the source document in 02 process / 02 retouch ) –– 02 high res version ( high res versions folder, always relative to the source document in 02 process / 02 retouch ) –– 03 contact sheet –– 04 website version Operating system: OSX Catalina 10.15.3 Affinity Photo: Version 1.8.3 Any help or input on this matter is much appreciated, as I'm considering moving from other editors to Affinity Photo. Thank you in advance. PS: if this post is in the wrong forum, then please let me know, and I will submit it in another.
  9. Is there a 'shift edge' or equivalent for selections/masks? If, yes, where is it ? Shift edge is something found in Photoshop. Photoshop's Shift Edge expands or contracts the mask by +/- pixels. It's available in the Refine Mask dialogue box in PhotoShop. Because it's in the Refine Mask dialogue, it means it can be experimented with at the same time as other subtle adjustments to the mask. I mostly use Shift Edge in combination with Mask feather adjustment. The amount of feather dictates the amount of shift. Shift Edge is really great for avoiding the halo effect when feathering the mask edge on levels adjustment layers. This is when you've got photos with the common problem of under-exposed foreground + over-exposed sky. How do you achieve this in Affinity Photo if there is no Shift Edge? (as I suspect might be the case)
  10. Hi Affinity Developers How can I connect Affinity Photo 2 with e.g. Bridge as external editor? This is a mega serious issue on Windows 10 Home. On a Mac no problem, I tried to help a friend being on Windows 10 Home. For normal users having no clue of %ProgramData% etc. it's literally impossible go find the Exe File. Even I had serious problem until I found it, but I could not connect it to any other softwere, there were always strange error messages. Even the solution provided in does not help. It just does not work. The local windows user is a Standard user and has no admin right. And this is good like so. %ProgramData% has some hardcore access restrictions and that is also good like so. Changing here anything may ugly mess up the Windows 10 system. The provided solutions also expect Windows system admin skills and admin rights of the user, please forget solutions like that. It is a total design flaw in Affinity Photo 2. Please change that immediately, thanks. Q: Is it really necessary to mess with customers like so? Why the heck is the exe not located on the same place like Affinity Photo 1 is? That's really bad. Best regards, Roland
  11. Hello, I am trying to install the Demo-Versions of the new V2 Windows-Apps but everytime I press "Install" in the installer the installer just stops responding and working. Is there already a solution for that problem and am I just missing it? - Pluh
  12. Hello, I just bought my first brush pack in the Affinity store. I could easily install them in Affinity Designer, but it doesn't work in Affinity photo (desktop for Windows). When i import them, i have a message saying they've been added (as i did this multiple times, it say the name is *brush pack 2, brush pack 3* and so on), but they don't show in my brush panel. I tried to create a new category first but it didn't work either. I would like to find the location folder on Windows to uninstall all those packs that didn't work and find a way for it to work ! Thanks a lot in advance for your help, joujou_tdj
  13. I have recently started using Affinty Designer and found that few basic features were missing which all the other professional Vector Editing Software have. Split Point ( This feature allows to break the point into Two separate points ) Minus/Plus or remove/add node ( Feature in Pen Tool to add or remove a node without limiting to shift to different tools ) Break Apart or Release Compound Path ( After Separating a shape with subtract front from back I need to be able to use both separations as different object rather than one single unit ) Create Clipping Mask or Power Clip option in Context Menu and Also Ctrl/Command + Drag object over other object for Quick Power Clipping(This feature is required for the reason of better efficiency ) Actions or Automation ( This Feature is in Illustrator which allows pre-recorded actions to take complex or rather bulk part of the work be smoother and FASTER ) Shape Builder Tool ( This Tool makes it easier for ratio base designing ) ( This is specifically required for professional designers ) Hovering Thumbnail along side the eyedropper tool with Color information (Eg : ) ( It is much need feature if you use it ) Convert to Curves should be included in Text Drop Down Menu. Change of units from right click on ruler ( This feature allows change of measuring unit from just by right clicking on the ruler ) Convert Object to Guidelines ( This Feature allows to Convert Object into Guide Shapes ) Object Locking option in Context Menu (much needed feature for Desktop and Mac user ) Color Numeric Value in swatches with the current color mode ( This feature is highly required one suggested by dadesign I.e.: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/77313-color-numeric-value-in-swatches/ don't know the person but really useful feature ) Thank You for Hearing,
  14. My used-to-be-the-most-powerful laptop back in the day is now labouring under my graphics work. What should be done in a click of the trackball button is now a click, up to 1 hour and several cups of green tea later. Truth to tell, I bought the laptop for programming and database development and it's not cut out for high resource using graphics. So, I need to start planning for a powerful desktop for my Affinity Software and digital art etc. I'm a Windows user for many reasons (only had an Mac G5 once and that was for programming on a Mac) so looking towards a mostly Windows solution. What hardware do other Affinity afficionados use and would recommend? What experiences have you had with different types of hardware (graphics cards, CPU, RAM, SSD vs HDD)?
  15. Had fun allowing the background to double as a color with this one. Although I have never done it myself, one of my favorite illustration production methods is screen printing. With each color applied separately, there are happy accidents like the plates not lining up exactly right that make every copy unique. Because I went even simpler by omitting overlapping colors, this piece had to be planned and executed differently than previous pieces I’ve done. I had to allow for contrast, details, and a light source within a very limited color palette of 3 colors (near black, orange, and grey) on a more vintage off-white base. This is true vector with one subtle texture raster layer over the top that can easily be replicated for any size. Happy Sunday, all!
  16. Hi, Just wondering if there is a way for me to share the AD assets that I've added to the app on my laptop so they also appear in the app on my desktop. I've added a load to the assets panel on my laptop, but when I opened the app on my desktop this morning, none of them were there. Guess it's because it's app based and not cloud based. Is that right? Is there a way of saving them and uploading from one to the other? Cheers, Cathie
  17. I'm trying to create an action to fill my copyright metadata on several images. I record the action, filling the metadata fields, but when I run the action, nothing happens, no fields are filled with any info. Trying this on Photo, on Mac, on the IPTC (image), IPTC (Contact), and Rights tab. Strange enough, when I use the action on a batch job, the output images have the metadata inserted. To recreate the problem: create a new empty file start recording an action and put some text on any field of IPTC or Rights tab stop recording and save the action create a new file and run the action In my case nothing happens. Does anyone have the same issue?
  18. So I have used a Frequency Seperation filter on a Photo to remove and even out Skin irregularities. But I think i have gone a little too overboard with it. Just like with any other adjustments and filters how can you reduce the opacity of Frequency Seperation ? To make the effect look a little natural, meaning less effective ? I do not see that option. Since there are two layers created High Frequency and Low Frequency. Please help !

Hello Guys, New Upcomer Designer looking for some feedback and opinion before making a purchase on whether I should Purchase Affinity (All 3 software) on my Mac Book or Desktop PC Would it make a difference ? or any specific advantages when comparing the usage on both devices? if so ? what are your thoughts? 1 - MacBook Specification : Apple Macbook Pro - 13 Inch, M1, 16GB RAM 2- Desktop PC Specifications : Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700 @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.9 GB usable) Monitor Odyssey G9 Samsung Apart of my desktop having a bigger monitor + mouse + keyboard. 20. I have a really strange situation where View | Toggle UI is STUCK in the View Mode, and no matter what I try, I cannot get back to "Working Mode" with the Tools and everything else. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix for this?
  21. Affinity Photo 1.10.4 running on OS X 12.1 on an M1 Mac. I've been checking the raw DNG development to 32-bit rgb pipeline in Affinity Photo, and I'm getting a slightly warmer image than when using other raw developers (OpenImageIO tool, DCRaw, Davinci Resolve) which all give me matching results if I develop to ACES AP0. As far as I know, I disabled all image processing on the Develop page to hopefully get a neutral export. It's also worth noting that under the hood all the apps except DCRaw are using LibRaw. Attached is a screengrab in Nuke showing a split screen of the Affinity output on the left and DNG to ACES from the other software on the right. Nuke ignores .icc profiles, but the way I believe AP works for its raw development to 32-bit RGB is it bakes the .icc output profile transform into the image rather than tagging the image with that profile - so it doesn't matter if Nuke can't read .icc profiles. Initially I thought there may be an issue with the pre-installed Apple ACEScg .icc profile selected as the output profile when developing to 32-bit RGB. But if I ignore ACES in AP and develop using an .icc profile with sRGB primaries, I get the same warm tone. I did also download an ACES AP0 .icc profile and I got the same results in Nuke. Just to be clear, that if the files exported with different .icc profiles are viewed in Nuke without taking into account the needed transformation of the primaries, then they look different as expected. When the primaries are accounted for with an ACES input transform for the primaries only, then they look the same (all warmer from AP). I'm not sure if there's an overall issue here where the .icc profiles are baking in a chromatically adapted white point that accounts for .icc profiles being based on D50, where my monitor is D65. Obviously, what I want is an absolute colorimetric transform that is not trying to account for my display in any way. It does seem less than ideal that display profiles are used to do the colour transform when OpenColorIO would be the obvious better choice, rather than only being for preview purposes. It's also possible this has nothing to do with a transform from .icc profiles and there's something else making the image slightly warmer.
  22. Easily take Affinity Photo shapes to the next level. Don't settle for the default shapes this Affinity Photo beginner tutorial shows how to change the shapes and add effects (FX) and blend modes to create unique graphics. This is number 41 in my Affinity Photo Power Tools playlist. the link to this playlist is below. https://youtu.be/JZrGgtn3RAA #madeinaffinity #affinityphoto #affinityserif #tutorial #photomanipulation #graphicdesign #affinity #digitallyfearless #AffinityiPad #iPad #shapes #fx #3D #blendmodes
  23. Right now it is painstakingly slow to install LUT folders, especially if you have a lot of them. I have over 100+. So for each folder containing a LUT theme, I have to 1. go to adjustment layer 2. create new LUT category 3. rename the LUT category (why can't this at least be accomplished when I create) 4. click on import the LUT items 5. go to the LUT folder, open the folder, select all, then click import, then wait up to a minute 6. Repeat all this for the 100 other folders! Why can't there be a batch method with all the nested LUT folder that I have? Also, once the LUTs are all installed, why can't I rapidly scroll through the LUTs on an image just like the way I can rapidly scroll through blend modes? It would really help me, and I'm sure other designers, to have a less painstaking method to install large LUT libraries, and a more rapid creative visualization method to view all the LUT looks?
  24. My Subscriber asked: "Where is the Histogram Slider in Affinity Photo?" Here is a workaround. One of my subscribers said they could not find a dark and light slider in Affinity Photo’s Histogram. In number 40 of my powerful tools of my Affinity playlist I show a workaround on how to use a slider. This Affinity Photo tutorial is shown in iPad and Desktop. https://youtu.be/pbdMwr790HE
  25. Easy chalkboard from a photo. Affinity Photo Tutorial In number 39 of my powerful tools of my Affinity playlist I turn a photo into chalk and place it on a blackboard, This Affinity Photo tutorial is shown in iPad and Desktop. https://youtu.be/IIqL44O9jbk
