  1. To my knowledge theres no way to see an actual brush cursor in AP other than a representation of the brush style. This is often very difficult to work with, especially when working on small details. This is for two reasons. 1) The brush tip cursor is a dynamically scaling thumbnail of the brush style. For those brushes with unusual shapes, this is problematic as a clear focal point doesn't exist. 2) The brush tip cursor color is matching the currently selected color. In theory this is helpful but often when using color values close in appearance it is virtually impossible to see the brush tip cursor. I understand it has been asked for before but I'd like to put my virtual 2 cents in. Is there any possibility that we will ever get a legit dynamic cursor that is similar to virtually all other image editing programs on the market? It would be immensely helpful. Thank you kindly for your feedback and putting this in as a hot feature update for this weekend (wishful thinking lol).
  2. After changing the baseline the text selection becomes very difficult, as a human we place the cursor at the text we intend to select but Publisher selects some other part of the text. This makes selection very difficult. Kindly fix it. Affinity bug.mov
  3. Hello Affinity Team, Is there a way to preview the cursor/brush size while painting or brushing? I understand the iPad doesn't have hover support but at least while brushing, I hope to see the boundaries of the brush. Thank you so much!
  4. Dear Affinity Team, I love your applications and I’m immensely happy about having an InDesign alternative now as well. However, there’s one thing that somewhat annoyed me from the beginning: for the navigation through text you chose the Adobe shortcuts instead of the native macOS shortcuts. This is rather disturbing if you’re a keyboard person and constantly using Apple’s iWorks suite as well as different text editors. As I somewhat understand that you want to make the switch easy for Adobe users, why not add the “Text shortcuts” as listed on your help site to the keyboard shortcuts customisation in the settings? You can even do this in Adobe programs. Example Moves cursor to start of word: macOS native: ⌥← (which is Text/Spacing/Tighten in Affinity or Adobe) Affinity: ⌘← (which is Moves cursor to start of line in macOS native shortcuts) I wrote something similar a few years back and I am not the only one disturbed by this. Cheers, Hagen.
  5. Unfortunately the following bug was not fixed in version 1.7 (1.7.0.367): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/38289-dual-monitor-with-different-scaling-tool-cursor-image-huge/ The same problem still exists with Affinity Photo 1.7 under Windows 10 1903 with Surface Book 2 (200%) and external monitor (100%). I'm really disappointed that this bug still hasn't been fixed after over 2 years. Please solve the problem, so Affinity Photo is not usable with dual monitors.
  6. Hey everyone, hope that you are well. I have a personal blog where I like to create pixel art. Still learning but yeah, I'm very comfortable with Affinity Designer for my normal vector work so I decided to give it a try for raster images. The thing is: the cursor is driving me nuts! Whenever I increase brush size (2px and up) the "preview" pixel that is going to be painted is displayed top left of the cursor. This video may help illustrate what I'm talking about https://screencast.com/t/k8yET7ijH Is this normal or the expected way for the tool to work? I'm using square brushes.
  7. HI - Am trying publisher for our village magazine. Is there any way of getting the pointer to revert back to the move/select tool after creating or editing a text box? At the moment it leaves it in text box mode so I try to select something else and it creates a box. It's annoying that I have to remember to select the move tool everytime. IN pageplus this wasn't an issue. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  8. I do a lot of design work for the middle eastern world. I have certain arabic fonts installed on my mac computer. However, the right to left input functionality does not work for the arabic font to make sense. It works in other mac applications such as Pages. This is a super important feature and I would really love for Affiinity Designer to support right-to-left scripts for writing in foreign languages such as Hebrew or Arabic input. This is where the cursor starts on the right side and the font lettering goes left. Please add this, it is super important for my niche! B) Thanks.
  9. Spacing group: when I hover my mouse on the left indent number value and scroll my mouse wheel up or down, the value accordingly increases or decreases (I really like this feature!), however the first line indent value also increases or decreases right along with it. I think this is a bug because this doesn't happen when I perform the same action on any of the other values in the Spacing group.. Arrowing up: I wanted to have a list that numbered 1.a.1, so to get the 2nd level counting to letters, I changed those paragraphs to type:a,b,c (haven't seen any way to customize my numbering formats, but also haven't looked too hard yet). When arrowing up/down from the middle of a paragraph, there is no weirdness. However when arrowing up with the cursor at the left-most position of a level 1 paragraph and into a level 2 paragraph, the cursor jumps from the left margin to strange positions going up. Here's an example - read from the bottom up: [[cursor lands here, back where it started]]this is a level 1 paragraph with several lines this is another level 1 paragraph, pretend it also has several lines[[cursor lands here]] this is a level 2 paragraph with several [[cursor lands here]]lines and this is the second line more level 2[[cursor lands here, skipping paragraph below]] yet another level 2 [[cursor lands here]]back to level 1 [[start with cursor here]]and more level 1 Weird...
  10. Hi, I have a problem with the brush cursor in Affinity on Mac: When I have brushes with some kind rotation function applied, like brush direction, the brush cursor does not respect this and stays the same all the time. Although I appreciate the refined brush cursor in some use cases, this is quite annoying, as this makes it hard to judge how the strokes will come out. Applications like Paintstorm do have a rotating brush cursor, and its very helpful. Either the brush cursor should rotate, or I need a neutral brush cursor like a crosshair. More options in the respect would be helpful.

    Cursor Issues

Hello, I was hoping to find out if anyone else is having issues with the cursor icon not updating in designer (sometimes Photo). I experience this as I draw with my tablet monitor. If I move the cursor using a mouse around the interface there is no issue. When I move around with the tablet, the cursor is fine when it leaves where the mouse left off until it reaches outside the canvas area. The cursor, once moved outside the canvas area (using the tablets stylus), will turn into the arrow to allow for menu item selection but once returned to the canvas area the cursor does not update to the current brush selection (when the brush tool is seleceted). This is an issue for every version since the first beta release to the current and all the official releases. Is there anything I can do to help the dev's pin-point the issue here? Thanks!
  12. hi recently I have met several problems when I used the affinity designer . the first is, the cursor jumping out my my control, when I designed a document with about 10,000 words in affinity designer of Mac. the second is , when I want to share my design in the affinity design of iPad, the whole app closed itself. I have tried the two documents several times, and I'm sure that the problem always occurred , not just happened occasionally. and as my documents have something privately, especially one of them is diary . so please forgive me for not uploading the files . hope that there is someone can help me . thanks. 13. Using Affinity Photo trial 1.6.4.104. Edit : In Windows 7, Wacom Intuos Pro 4, XL. The problem: Specially with custom brushes, the outline ends up covering the area you are painting, when using medium or big size brushes (common for many painters, illustrators, even comic colorists, and 2D/3D texturing artists). Even the basic brush, round brush shape and outline (a brush which indeed is enough for high quality digital painting, with proper settings by the user, and expertise), is very productive to be able to disable it at options (due to some motion blur effect, and just for an outline's nature, it is too distracting). You can disable this in most applications (of course, I do not expect A. Photo to be like any other application. But is a common ground that this is more than desirable, as an optional setting ) and leave instead the existing crosshair, or even add options (not needed) as small cursor, big dot, triangle cursor, etc. Proposed solution : Quite some artists just completely disable the outline in other applications, and choose instead some sort of cursor (our current nice crosshair). We already have a good and efficient crosshair cursor. It is not too small and not too big, and visible enough, which is very important, too. So, just being able to disable the outline, in preferences, (completely fine if it would be not a default setting), it would perfectly do it. ( Together with the issue/feature request with the color selector-magnifier which I just posted, is the other thing that is actually stopping me from purchasing A.Photo (got Designer long ago) and actually probably moving all of my workflows, in each and every field, to Affinity Photo. I have been able to sort any other obstacle with this trial, already. ) Edit : It seems there was at least one other request about this, previous to mine. There are some differences, but there is important info about the matter that might help developers, in both threads, so, I am linking it here, as well, as could be useful for them, once arrived the moment : https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/52572-preferences-add option-to-removehide-brush-outline/
  14. Hello everyone! I've got some suggestions for improving the selection tools: 1: Could you add a shortcut to the tools that lets the user add to selection when holding shift? 2: Could you add a shortcut to the tools that lets the user subtract from the selection when holding alt? 3: Currently, when I select Mode -> Add, I can only add to selection if I am starting the loop outside of the current selection. It seems there is no way to start a loop inside the selection, because if I try to do so, I actually move the selection. This behaviour could be accessed with M (Rectangular Marquee Tool), though. Being able to start a loop inside the current selection is just easier sometimes. 4: Could you include the selection menu (from the menu bar) in the selection tools so that it is being displayed at cursor location when right clicking? 5: I guess this is a bug, but I am adding this here as it's about the same tool: Clicking L to select the Free Hand Selection Tool will not show a different cursor initially. The cursor will only be displayed after using the tool. Best wishes, Shu

  16. Hi, for a few days Im missing the input box, when I try to edit a selection size, or use a filter. All I got is this cursor, as shown in the attached picture, wich is bugging me. Any ideas how I can switch back to the normal input box? Thanks in advance
  17. When I add Chinese in a existing paragraph, the cursor will Jump too far on the right, not follow. bug.mov My friend's Affinity Designer has the same problem(the software we bought at the Mac app store) hope you'll fix the problem as soon as possible. Thank you for your work!
  18. I'm experiencing a very slow cursor / brush while using a tablet with brushes form the "Textured" category (brushes that have large size and many rough / sharp edges). Cursor / brush works fine with mouse. Video LE: Never mind, turning off "High precision input" makes it work normally.
  19. So I've been using Affinity Designer now for about six months and just on this last artboard group that I've been working on I noticed that my artistic text tool is wonky. When I select the tool then move the cursor to create the size of text to start with, the text is much higher above my cursor and when I type, I am unable to get the cursor to select the bottom most row of text without using the keypad. It's like the box thinks my text is all much higher than it really is. Help! I am not loving the keystrokes to have to change my text.
  20. I have a Logitech MX Master 25 mouse. The onscreen cursor moves at appropriate set speed in all apps & on the desktop except in Affinity Designer. It moves at much faster (and uncontrollable) speed. I don't have that problem in Affinity Photo, just Designer. I've tried all speed settings and the mouse works accordingly in everything other than Designer. This may not be a problem with Affinity, maybe it's a fault with the mouse software/driver, but I thought I'd check if anyone else has encountered such a problem and could they fix it. I am also contacting Logitech for their help.
  21. For the most part, Affinity Designer's tool cursor shapes are very clear to understand and the cursors match well with their icons. All except the Move Tool. When I first started using Affinity Designer and I was switching between the Move Tool and the Node Tool with keyboard shortcuts, I would often confuse them (OK, maybe my eyes are getting bad too...). Even after using AD for many months I am puzzled by why they are not consistent. My suggestion is to change them so they are clearer for the user. I made a suggestion below, but this is not the only solution— you may have a better one, but really the goal is to reduce ambiguity and increase consistency.
  22. Hi Affinity, just wanted to report a small annoying issue. How to reproduce: 1. Draw a rectangle. 2. Hold ALT, Grab the rectangle and drag it - so it get's copied 3. Let the new rectangle drop on the right side of the original rectangle so they touch 4. Move the new rectangle with SHIFT and 2x Arrow Keys to the right 5. Hold ALT, Grab the new rectangle and drag it - so it also gets copied Now look at the second rectangle. It gets repositioned to where it was, before the moving with the cursor keys happend. Thanks for taking care of that annoying habit. Tim
  23. I am using Windows, and when using the paintbrush tool and clicking on 'width' and 'opacity' sliders above, paintbrush cursor (a circle) changes back into a move cursor (arrow), and I have to click again on the paintbrush icon on left toolbar to change it back again to the paintbrush cursor. Is this a bug which hasn't been dealt with yet or is there something which I haven't understood about the workflow?
  24. Hi Affinity, Version 1.6 of the designer works in some areas much better. I am still having some issues, that are really annoying in a quick production workflow: I select several objects within the workspace and move them with SHIFT cursor (left, right, up, down) it works perfectly. BUT: If I select multiple objects in the layers palette I cannot move the objects with SHIFT + cursor down or up, instead it selects more objects in the layers palette. It ist quiet often the case, that I have to select the objects I am trying to move in the layers palette, and then move them with cursor keys to have an equal distance between them. Is there a way to prevent the layers palette being in the focus for the SHIFT+cursor entry? Cheers Tim
  25. Cursor lags for a fraction of a second after the pen is put down and then moved. Happens for every tool in both drawing and pixel personas. Most visible when using any of the freehand drawing tools. This creates a noticeable hiccup for every stroke, and makes short strokes with low pressure virtually impossible to make. Different pressure settings Different Wacom pens Lower view settings in AD preferences Closer and further zoom I've searched extensively on the forums and the web at large and found no more reports of this so I'm wondering if it's only happening in my particular set up, specially in El Capitan: OS X 10.11 (El Capitan Public Beta, latest release) Wacom Intuos Pro touch small (latest drivers) Affinity Designer 1.3.5 trial (from Serif's website, latest release) MacBook Pro (Retina, 15", Late 2013) 16GB RAM I really want to buy this program, it's amazing otherwise, but it's unusable with the cursor lag for me. Thank you.
