  1. Hello The problem: I have have had Affinity Designer for 1 year now i think, but had not used it for a while. Came back to 1.7.1 version and the program felt a bit slow. I did update to 1.7.2 and still have this issue, With slow i mean, every time i used the view tool, the screen felt like, it was moving with a 0.1sec delay (huge smoothign effect) same goes for selection tool when selecting an area or simply moving objects, Bigger files around 50-60 MB are even worse sadly. What i tried: I tried looking into the performance settings and found the cause, which is the Nvidia GPU render option. I use laptop so i tried integrated card: Intel HD 630 and it started working pretty smooth, but has weird lag spikes from time to time. What may be the cause for the software to slower down on Nvidia GPU? First i thought i may have throttling issues, but i have undervolted my CPU and the laptop never reaches more than 42* temp. My laptop specs: Dell XPS 15 9570 CPU: Intel i7 - 7850h GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 TI - Max Q edition Ram: 32Gb In short, the Intel Graphics work better which should not be like that and any help is appriciated
  2. Hi everyone....hope this finds you well! Recent development on my end. Brushes usage has gotten really buggy and is causing CPU overload, memory jumps and slow performance. Also Designer is leaking memory after closing the program. Everything was fine a couple days ago and I haven't changed anything I can think of. I will select a brush and color and when I try and bracket up the brush size things begin to fail. In some brush sets the brush I've selected will deselect itself and default to another brush, in others I select a brush change size or color-brush deselects, in all CPU will jump and about 30 secs later I'll see my stroke. Impossible to use. All other brushes unless at a very small pixel width are also causing the same problems. i5-4960K @ 3.5Ghz, 16GB DDR3 Ram, Win 8.1 64 bit x64 based processor, MSI GTX 970, LG Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 and a small Dell monitor or a Vizio Tv as second monitor. ( I switched out the tv this morning to make sure it was not somehow the problem). I ran memtest a few weeks ago and all is fine. Anyone else having these problems? Any suggestions before I jump off my roof? Thanks!
  3. Hello, I'm using latest stable version of AD, and while I minimize and work on my projects in Unity, AD take lots of CPU. See attached screenshot of the task manager. There are only couple of docs open in it, and app was minimized. Kindly look into this issue, as AD keeps my CPU at 70c temperature and fan on high speed until I close AD.

    100% CPU usage

Hello. I noticed this problem with Affinity Photo desktop, which means that even with a few layers on certain operations (or even just the use of the brush), CPU usage goes up a lot (up to 100%) and the software becomes very slow and crashes even sometimes. I also noticed from the management that the GPU does not seem to be used much, although it is correctly set in the settings. I have already tried to reinstall the software and also to completely format the PC. Below is a list of computer specifications: -Windows 10 -i7 6700K 4.00 GHz -16 GB DDR4 RAM -NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB I usually work on files up to 5000x5000 pixels at 300 dpi and I do photomanipulation work. In my recent work on AP it seems like I couldn't use too many layers and this limited my work a lot. Previously I worked on Photoshop so I know the problem should not be with my hardware. Thank you :-)
  5. Hello I understand Affinity Photo can benefit from the usage of a GPU, I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M since it's a laptop. My question is, to ascertain that software does is working with the GPU, should I select the GPU selection in the Affinity Photo Preference Menu in the Performance Tab?, should I assign it directly in the Nvidia control panel? or should I do both things? Thank you

    Over using CPU

Just moving items around page uses up to 80% of my cpu and really slows the software down the pc is almost new i have asked a friend with a 6600k and his does the same thing but uses a little less 65-70% with the same file (i sent him the one in vid). PC Specs 7700k 16gb 3200mhz ddr4 gtx 1080 asus tuff mark 1 z270 Anyone else have this trouble or know a fix for it. 2017-11-10_11-20-26.flv
  7. I´ve got serious Problems with RAW editing. After a few seconds the CPU of my 2,9 GHZ 4 Kernel MacBookPro 2017 (that's fast) goes up to nearly 100%, the fan starts immediately. With Photoshop anything is cool. What is it about? Why does Affinity Photo needs so much Power? It is annoying...
  8. I've noticed that Affinity is often gobbling up quite a bit of CPU even when it's the "current" app. My everyday workhorse is an energy saving i3 with 4Gb RAM so sucking 25% or more of CPU time when it should be idle is a bit of a bind. Not being an Windows expert I'm unsure if there's anything that can be done about this. I may be thinking of Mac OSX (it's been a while) but isn't it possible to put a app into a "sleep" mode when it's not in focus - or in particular when it's covered by other windows? I design a lot of memes - they're rarely complex, but it means switching between a web browser and the Affinity window and I find that the browsers are fighting Affinity for a share of the limited CPU and memory. I guess there's not much we can do about memory but surely the CPU usage could be throttled? My other machines have more than enough cores and memory to handle this but they also need a small power station to run so I tend to break them out as an when necessary. I should also say (as this is my first post to the forum) that apart from having Affinity since it's first Mac release it's never ceased to amaze me! Well done chaps - this isn't so much a bug as a feature request!
  9. I have been using Affinity Photo since beta and have recently run into a problem with performance. I noticed this slightly at the beginning of this year and it has become worse as the year has gone on. Once I reach a certain number of layers (7-9) or apply a specific layer adjustment (such as motion blur) it begins to excessively use my cpu. This causes large slow downs and forces me to try and find alternative methods of editing in Affinity. I tried reinstalling without success and have the latest version of all software. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this and/or has a solution. I have attached an image as an example. Once I added the motion blur, the cpu usage skyrocketed. I am using a 2017 MacBook Pro (regret buying) with 16gb ram. 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB
  10. Hi, everyone, I have Affinity Designer installed on 2 computers with Windows: HP laptop with i5-4210U and Radeon M255 Desktop with Ryzen 5 1600 ann NVidia 1050Ti When I have around 4 or more files open, my CPU usage is between 50–75%. All the time, even when idle. This happens on both machines. Can someone help me with this issue? It's really frustrating, the laptop becomes practically unusable. Thanks.
  11. Hey, I am using Affinity Photo for MacOS on my MacBook Pro 13" 8GB RAM, i5 (MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4) But if I want to work with RAW (Develop Persona) the CPU usage from Affinity goes extremely up. The Mac is really really really loud then and there is no way to work smooth with the develop persona. After changing to photo persona the CPU goes to a normal level. Is this a bug or is my Mac to weak for developing RAW images? Is there any way to solve the problem? Greetings!
  12. I've been having a problem with AD burning up CPU cycles doing absolutely nothing with a lot of documents open after some time. Per earlier conversations, I went through all the documents and made sure nothing was selected/there was no marquee in any of the tabs. The behavior persists when AD is minimized. On a 32 Core/64GB machine it was using ~80% of total system resources or approximately 2500% of a single core with no operations in progress and a blank document active. I ran it through Windows Performance Analyzer and fortunately some of the AD symbols were available so I have the following to share:
  13. Hi, Affinity photo is VERY slow on my old iMac (21.5, mid-2010, 3,6 GHz Intel Core i5, 12 Go).It takes ages to open, export, etc. I checked with activity monitor and it uses an incredible amount of memory (see attached file). I can hardly use it.
  14. Hey guys, I have a question regarding the performance of Affinity Designer using only a CPU. Working with large and complex files, really slows down my AD and im wondering if a graphics card would solve that problem, so I thought maybe i ask you guys here with more experience. My current specs are the following: Windows 10 Pro 64bit Intel i7-7700 @ 3.60 GHz 32GB RAM AD Version 1.5.3.69 So my AD is currently running only over the CPU and I thought maybe adding a GPU would increase the performance but after reading some topics in this forum I became a bit sceptical if this would improve my performance. Is it true that a GPU would only have a little impact on my experience? Or are these problems generally existent in the windows version? Unfortunatly I can't provide a example file due to corporate privacy guidelines.
  15. The Filter use up to 700% CPU and never stops. I have to kill Affinity Photo.
  16. Hi there and a happy new year, if Designer runs in background it should not be greedy on CPU. In the attached screenshot designer is on all 16 Cores eating a lot of CPU cycles (the 16 lower ones are hyperthreaded fake cores, they don't count). This is a continuous behavior, also when Designer is sitting in the background doing nothing. :-( I need my cores back if designer goes to background, there is a reason why I have 16 cores, and doing a relaunge will take very long because I'm workig on really complex files. Current Version, no beta. Thank you, Timm
  17. Tried to open few ARW files at once, but Affinity Photo tried to open them too slow (I waited few minutes and has to kill it). For test tried to open only one photo and compare result with Photoshop: Affinity Photo 1.6.0.89: - init used memory after cold start = 184MB - time to show = 14 seconds - time to finish open = 52 seconds - used memory = 1,268MB Photoshop CC 2015: - init used memory after cold start = 143MB - time to show = 4 seconds - time to finish open = 14 seconds - used memory = 489MB Sample attached to this post. Try to make 10x duplicates with different names and drag them all to Affinity Photo... In result on my system currently I can work with Photoshop, but not with Affinity Please, optimize your product. System: - CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66GHz - GPU: Geforce GT 240 - Memory: 4GB - Free space on disk: 50GB - OS: Windows 10 1709 b16299.19 _DSC6435.ZIP
  18. Hello, I like Affinity Photo very much, apart from one issue: It over uses CPU For example: I opened a RAW-File in Affinity Photo, switched to Photo-Persona and jused some Filters and Adjustment-Layers. AP used up to 100% CPU, PC freezed several times for some seconds, I could not even move the Mouse-Pointer. Once Screen turned black and Monitor says "no signal". After a few seconds i got the screen back and PC continued working. AP freezes in lots of situations while calculating. Even while saving and after saving (when doing nothing) or calculating the size of a jpeg export. System Specs: i7-4790k, 16 GB RAM (1,5 - 2 were used), Windows 10 In Performance-Settings Rendering ist set to "Default (NVidia Geforce GTX 970) Graphic Card has 4 GB RAM. Usage of GPU was minimal. Never had such Problems with CPU or Monitor-Signal with other Applications. My PC usually works stable. Is it possible, that you don't use the complete cpu-power because AP is not the only Application running on a Windows-System? No other Application claims 100% and stopps the rest of the system. Would be nice if i could play some music in the background while working (for example) but on some operations i can not even move the mouse until calculation ist ready. Hope You can solve the Problem. Thanks! Regards, Thomas
  19. Hello the new Version brings my Raw Edit Tab, to a hold, when i have opened up AP and import a RAW File my Windows 7 System it peaks up to 100% on almost everything i do ,even move the mouse is overloading my CPU.The Version before was flawless. No Idea what's wrong on 1.6, also the RAW exif Data from Canon EOS 700D not available anymore.I go back on older Version until this is fixed. My System is i7 2600k , 16 GB Memory , GTX 750TI

    Constant 100% CPU

I'm working on a newsletter A4 in size with some text and a small image. It's almost unusable as for some reason whether I'm actually using any tools or not it's showing in Windows Task Manager as 100% CPU time, all the time! I haven't experienced this working with just photos before. It's something to do with text/image combination. I have no idea but it really does make the software not operable. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. I am just looking into purchasing your product and I am also getting a 10" Windows Tablet. I see on your requirements page that you suggest Windows 10 64bit and 4GB RAM. Will the Intel® Atom™ x5-Z8550 Processor (2.40GHz 2MB) the 4.0GB LPDDR3 with Windows 10 Pro 64 have enough processor performance to make me happy with your software? (Looking at the Lenovo Yoga Book, 10" 2-in-1 tablet with Halo keyboard) Or will I be disappointed with the performance? if I will be disappointed, what minimum CPU do you require? Also, I have a desktop at home and will travel with he new Windows 10 tablet. Can I install Affinity on both with one license since I am the only user and will be using only one machine at a time?

    Huge CPU usage

I was just doing some basic UI design (moving vector and text layers around and resizing them) on Affinity Designer latest Mac AppStore release and heard that fans are going quite fast, so I opened Activity Monitor and saw that Affinity Designer was using like over 100% of CPU: Not sure if this is bug or not, but I guess it's not normal to have this huge CPU usage during simple tasks. P.S. I'm using Retina Macbook Pro 13" Mid-2014. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I have few rasterized pictures used in file, because I have seen that using Pixel tools in AD heats my Mac quite a bit, but at that moment when fans went wild I wasn't doing anything with those rasterized layers. Thanks! :)
  23. hi all, im have a bug, when im move one object in the document, the cpu is overload to 100%, causing slowdown in app. movie_clip.mp4

    CPU at 100%

Hi, I just installed Affinity Photo (trail), after installation the program and some others didn't work. Had something to do with an dotNET update to 4.7. After deinstaling all dotNET and a re installation of dotNET 4.6.2 all was fine again. Then I just opend a photo (jpg) in Affinity Photo (trail) and start playing around using my Wacom tablet. Almost imidiatly the program had to think befor it did something, all movements I made started to lack behind. Then I looked at my CPU usage. It was at 100% and stayed there even when I didn't do anything. After closing the program the CPU calmeddown. This is the same as in Lightroom 6, and Adobe isn't paying much attention to it. The main reason I'm looking for non adobe alternetives for Lightroom and Photoshop. For me Affinety is new, saw some youtube videos and was sold. .....but now. I don't know yet? Is it me, is it my computer or is it Affinity? My PC is a: Dell Xeon X5650 2,66Ghz 24Gb memory NVIDIA Geforce GT 610 windows 7 64 bit Let me please know what I can do. Rob.
  25. As i am trying to learn Affinity Photo, I'm running into situations where it feels the app has frozen, but i am waiting for Photo to finish some processing. There needs to be an indicator that something is happening. I see that some of the tools and processes cover the screen with a progress bar. This is a bit heavy handed, but it needs to be present for every situation where the user is forced to wait. I recommend a less intrusive version of it, as well (covering the whole screen is too much).
