  1. Please add the ability to import CDR files. Lately, clients have started mentioning that they would like to move away from CorelDraw. You might be surprised how many Mac users are using CorelDraw via Bootcamp or Parallels. Now that Serif (Affinity) is supporting the Mac they want to migrate away from CorelDraw. However, they feel trapped with CorelDraw because: They do not want to lose their CDR files created over many years. In addition, they want to avoid exporting hundreds of files out of CorelDraw one at a time so the files could be used elsewhere. Here is an opportunity for Affinity to make friends in the Mac community. Make Affinity products able to perfectly import Adobe and Corel files. Do this and you will have an automatic customer base for a long time.
  2. I'm currently puzzling over the simplest way to convert a mask to a pixel layer (and whether this can be made into a macro). Currently I'm at: Release mask if it is attached to any layer, or drag to top level of layers Invert mask Put black pixel layer below mask Select mask layer Merge down Put white pixel layer below this layer Select merged layer above white layer Merge down Any improvements? The attached macro does steps 2 to 8, but I can't find a way to include the release into a macro. Still, it seems usable -- you just need to do step 1 by hand. You may also need to ensure nothing is selected. Dave's Mask to Pixel Layer.afmacro
  3. Hi, this bug happens constantly with the following file and new blank documents. IMG_5523.afdesign 1) I open a JPG in Designer -> save as .afdesign 2) Use measurement tool and measure a distance A/B in pixels 3) Open "set scale" dialog -> enter "4.5m" and click "Anwenden" The dialog closes -> the widget now shows the computed distance in Meters -> Designer freezes The app does not recover. If i try to close the app via taskbar -> "Fenster schließen" i get the Save dialog but can't click any of the three buttons. The dialog is also freezed - can't click or move it. Have to force shutdown via the taskmanager: This error happens in 100% of all tests. Regardless of hardware acceleration on or off. EDIT I found this weird context 1) If i try this workflow with a fresh blank DIN A4 document (file -> new -> preset print, DIN A4 document unit Millimeter) there is no crash. Can use the tool after setting the scale to "4.5m" and continue work. Tool now shows distances in calculated scale and Meters. Document and Scale units are both metric blank-test-a4-print.afdesign 2) Now in the existing document I change the document unit settings from Millimeter to Pixel After that i do the above workflow again: measurement tool, measure A/B, set scale -> OK -> Designer freezes Have to force shutdown Designer via windows task manager. 3) The same crash appears even without changing the document units to pixel. It's enough to set the the scale units to Pixel when the document units differ (Millimeters): Conclusion: the whole scale units conversion (Pixel to Meters or vice versa) breaks the app.
  4. Is there a way to batch convert from .afphoto format to jpeg or others. I have done a lot of editing work and all of my photos saved as .afphoto and now I would like to convert without doing one at a time.,
  5. Sadly, not available for Mac but this image converter will batch convert between many formats including vector formats. Converseen Converseen is an open source batch image converter and resizer for Linux and Windows. It supports more than 100 image formats and you can convert and resize an unlimited number of images to any of the most popular formats. 6. Hi there. Well, I found an annoying trouble, I think, in reference to color spaces. I did a design using a rgb document. Well, I have the rgb reference of the color of one element but when I change to cmyk in the right side dock (or in the document itself) the referece doesn't match with other conversors like https://www.calculadoraconversor.com/cmyk-a-rgb/ or https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/color/cmyk-to-rgb.html I think the conversion is wrong. In example: #00146B in RGB >>>> Designer gives CMYK 100, 97, 24, 25 while both conversors above writed and other softwares give CMYK 100 81 0 58 It´s imposible to have a secure work if the conversion is not real. Where is the problem? Thank you in advance.
  7. When converting to EPS I will often get a white background that can not be cleared on many elements. Text is the most problematic. This is causing issues as I need to be able to convert my file for an AI end user, and all editable conversions have inadequate outcomes. I have attached the AD files for you to look at and one example of the poor output. Buff Circ New Logo- Black 4.0.afdesign White buafflo new.afdesign
  8. Poison So impressed with AD....had to resort to embedded files with this one but handled 1000's of vector objects brilliantly.. Again based on a sketch from 2017 Inktober Project All vector 420 x 200 mm 300dpi
  9. Hello. When opening Illustrator files in Affinity Designer, i would like to keep the spot colors. If i open an Illustrator-.eps file in Affinity Designer, the Pantone color is automatically changed into cmyk. When opening an Illustrator-.ai or -.pdf file in Affinity Designer, the Pantone color is maintained as spot color. Does this have something to do with my color settings or is this a general problem with .eps files? Thanks in advance for advice.
  10. I am having trouble opening PDF or SVG from other designers using other design software. If they are using a unit of measure of mm. If I just open their file that they supply, usually an SVG or PDF, it opens in Affinity Designer as points or pixels. If I then go to change the unit of measure in the document setup from points to mm or inches, the conversion is in correct and the dimensions are incorrect as the original designer had specified. How do I specify the default unit of measure before opening the file? And more so, how do I change the unit of measure to a different unit without making the measurements inaccurate?
  11. If you read this solution: https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/a/79248 And watch this video: You'll see how effect this method is for converting Raster Pixel Art to Vector Pixel Art and I think it would be an amazing tool for Affinity Designer to have!
  12. Hi, there is significant colour inconsistency by conversion from RGB to CMYK via the adjustment layer and document setup. The soft proof adjustment layer produces different colours than the same rendering intent through document setup dialog box. See my video. Colours in video are shifted a bit, but the issue is visible. Am I doing something wrong or is there some different renderig on background when using document setup conversion? I'm not sure if the adjustment layer has smaller gamut or the luminosity differs, but CMYK colours after document colour conversion looks for me a bit better. RGB to CMYK.mov
  13. Hey folks! Here's the case: I am currently working on a logo in Affinity Designer. It is the second iteration and I would like to present him the first vectorized draft of the logo in an appealing layout and with written documentation. I have created the layout in Affinity Publisher and linked the Affinity Designer file in it, so that any changes to the logo are directly reflected in the Publisher document. Thereby I encounter the following problem/s: The Designer file contains text that uses a licensed font that should remain editable until the final version of the logo – but in the Designer file ONLY. If I now export the Publisher document as a PDF for web to keep hyperlinks to references and good readability for example, the text of the linked logo gets exported editable/selectable via Adobe Acrobat – which I don't want at all! If I export the document as flattened and all elements are rasterized, it becomes (even if only slightly) blurred and consequently pixelated – which I don't want either. A possible solution for a feature could be the option to convert any text ONLY in linked/embedded files instead of converting all text to curves during export. I'd be happy to learn if there's another, more convenient way to do this, since it's a bite impractical while the logo's not final. 😀 However, I' m not quite sure if I described the problem in an easy to understand way. 😅 Greetings MrDoodlezz
  14. There's a mountain of people out there that would love to be able to convert Microsoft Publisher files to InDesign. Why don't you get the jump on them and a massive audience by making Affinity Publisher able to open or convert those .pub files on Mac. I think the only way to do it at the moment is to save the .pub files as PDFs them open them. Doing it this way nearly all of the subtle editing features are lost but at least you can copy and paste the basic elements. It would be great just to be able to open them in Publisher too.
  15. I need the ability to automatically change the image to vectors. Designers use pen tools on top of images with poor resolution, not vectors, below them to make them vectors. I think it needs to be automated. In fact, if you take a program that's automated, it's Vector Magic. Even though it is not very accurate, it is very helpful in images that require a lot of vector conversion work. Obviously, if we include this feature in our efficiency, it will be a simple and automated function.
  16. Just thought I would share these 12/31 sketches and vector interpretations for Inktober 2017 I have been re-creating a few of them in AD word prompt sketches re-created as vector artwork so far and linked below: [03:Poison] | [05:Long] | [06:Sword] |[07:Shy] | [08:Crooked] [09:Screech] | [10:Gigantic] | [14:Fierce] | [18:Filthy] | [24: Blind] [25: Ship] | [23:Juicy] | [26:Squeak] | [29:United] United Uploaded original ink as created in Sketchbook Pro 8.5 and vector conversion in AD Original File sizes: SB=200 x 200 (300dpi) AD= 510 x 603 mm (300dpi) Vector Wireframe
  17. I can't find anything in the Help about this but it seems like a reasonable thing to want to do. It would be nice to be able to easily convert an artistic text layer to a text frame so I can take advantage of the extra functionality without having to manually create new text frames and copying the text over. Is there any way of doing this easily? On example where this would be useful is if you had a page originally created in Designer - which doesn't have text frames - that you brought over to Publisher for further editing.
  18. Hi all. If I convert a file from RAW in Photo then use a plugin filter (NIK, Topaz etc) any crop I have added is lost. Even if I convert then crop in Photo the crop is still reset to the original proportions in the filter. See the screenshots for examples cos it's kinda hard to write about while listening to Pretty Fly (for a white guy) loud! Do others see this?
  19. Would like to see an option allowing the conversion of Designer files that include multiple Artboards to Publisher Pages. Currently it seems as though all Designer artboards are converted to a single giant page in Publisher. I have built a number of 24 - 60 "page" files using Designer in hopes that Publisher would have some option to see the artboards as pages. Bonus Request: Allow entering "Number of Pages in the New Document dialog, saving a step from going to the "Add Pages" dialog. thanks!
  20. Hi, I have opened a Sony RAW file in AP and also opened the same RAW file in CaptureOne. They present compeletly different on the same screen (see attached screen shots). As you can see the detail i.e. green bush mid foreground in the AP software is very very poor compared to capture one software at both 50% and 100% zoom. Also I note that the histogram in the develop persona is completely different to that shown in CaptureOne. The histogram changes when I "develop" the photo and become are more aligned. However, the detail in AP is still very very poor compared to CaptureOne, am I doing something wrong in the initial "document set up" stage of the AP process? Attached images are: Screen Shot 50% Zoom. Screen Shot 100% Zoom. Screen Shot Histograms Compared.
  21. Apologies if this has been answered somewhere already, but even Google could not find that answer for me, so here goes... I have created a CMYK document "Print (Press ready)". - Can I place RGB images in the document which will automatically be converted to CMYK on export to PDF? (InDesign workflow) - Or do I need to convert images to CMYK before placing them in the document? (XPress workflow) Many thanks!
  22. Okay, long story short, I got a new boss and this boss wanted to rebrand. I'm an amateur and endlessly making changes to a logo isn't my idea of a fun time, so I had her open up a logo tournament. I set out the expectations of the final design, knowing it had to be a file I could work with. The designers soon realized that she had the final say and knew nothing about design, but only one of them would get the money, and that's the one who gave her a logo that looked good on the computer screen regardless of how it would print. She kept telling them she wanted a neon green, an electric purple, and he gave her an RGB logo. I requested countless versions, and the only one I can get to open right is the AI files. All of the EPS have issues, the gradients have issues, and when trying to use the CMYK versions we were provided everything prints like Pea Soup instead of neon green. I kept telling him to imbed the color profile and he keeps insisting that if I open it in Adobe it will work. I have issues with the files in AF and mac preview. I found that I can open the AI files and work on them but the colors will be off. I am going to post the files and see if you guys can help me.CW Logo Tournament.zip CELLULAR CMYK BK.ai CELLULAR CMYK.ai CELLULAR RGB BK.ai CELLULAR RGB.ai
  23. Video Import Considering that we now live in a multimedia era in which most cameras are also capable of shooting video clips, I would like to see support to import such video clips and perform at least very basic operations (i.e., trim, copy & trim, set poster frame, etc.) Then, on export to export to a frame size, format desired (i.e., 4K -> 1080p or 720p, etc.) Such capability is already inherent in Adobe's Lightroom, Apple's basic photos app even. In consideration that most cameras, especially and obviously smart phones) are capable of shooting video clips, and the added fact we now live in a multimedia era of audio and video in addition to just images, it is important to be able to have at lest such basic function to recognize ALL multimedia in a camera and not just a part of it. For full blown video production, of course would use an NLE video post production editor. Media Browser & Catalog Again as examples, both Lightroom and Photos allows one to browse the media of a source (to include BOTH photos and video (above) for browsing and edits. I understand Affinity has a very basic functional capability for this under the photos menu, but it's just not the same. It is minimally functional and useful. I know this falls under the DAM category, but still, a basic integration of a catalog or library would be nice to have versus opening a single photo or a group of photos from the source each time to conduct an edit. Having a set of scrollable thumbnails to pick and choose on-the-fly will be convenient, useful, and productive. I dropped Lightroom because of their subscription model event though they have a very useful and functional browser for said purpose. For the interim I am using Apple's Photos which also has this same function. However, Apple's Photos apps is limited in the editting capabilities and convenience. So, for now I am sort of in limbo. Adobe has the free bridge program, but then I am using a separate application for this function rather then having an integrated solution. Thanks.
  24. Hi, In the develop persona there is a tool called overlay gradient tool. Does this tool not exist in photo persona? The reason I am asking is because some of my scans are in monochrome (no RGB), and the develop persona is not able to handle none RGB files. Which reminds me... is it possible to converse color profiles? Cheers Peter
  25. Hi I've been testing Affinity Photo (AP), and about to test Affinity Designer. This is a general question, part of which is an analysis I'm doing, after answering someones technical question on LinkedIn. The author of the post was confused with getting varying numeric values from CMYK to RGB and HEX I used AP to try out the colour sliders and chooser interface. Can anyone answer why values differ from a given CMYK value? Example: CMYK 65 0 100 0 AP Sliders = LAB 89 -70 82 / RGB 89 255 0 / HSL 99 100 50 / WEB RGB 59FF00 AP Chooser = LAB NIL / RGB 128 177 62 / HSL 86 48 47 / # HEX (CSS) 80B13E If anyone is interested, I have created a spreadsheet of my other findings. Ideas, thoughts? Dee
