  1. Poison So impressed with AD....had to resort to embedded files with this one but handled 1000's of vector objects brilliantly.. Again based on a sketch from 2017 Inktober Project All vector 420 x 200 mm 300dpi
  2. Hi, so, I am reporting a rather obscure error. It may be difficult to reproduce unless duplicating fairly exact conditions, so I will be specific. System / Software Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit 1709 Build 16299.371 Hardware: Gigabyte 15X - i7-7700HQ / 16GB Ram / 1.5TB NVMe SSD / Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU Affinity Photo: v 1.6.4.104 Capture One Pro: v 11.1.0.140 Issue Description Using Capture One (C1) 'Edit with' to edit an existing NEF raw file, a 16-Bit uncompressed TIF file is generated and saved in C1 and then sent to Affinity Photo (AP). Once this file is updated and saved within AP, the TIF file is successfully returned to C1. However, on trying to edit the filename in C1 immediately afterwards, C1 says that the file is locked by another process. This happens on all successive similar edits of NEF files. If one exits C1, and goes back to those files, they are no longer locked and can be renamed. To Duplicate 1. In C1, select a file such as a raw NEF file named IMG-1234567.NEF.2. In C1, right click the image thumbnail, and use 'Edit with' to edit in an external app, selecting Affinity Photo.3. In C1, this creates a TIF file in the same directory, in this case naming the file IMG-1234567.TIF.4. In AP, this TIF file is opened up. The image is simply adjusted (such as brightness or curves) and the image is flattened.5. In AP, use 'Save' in the File menu (or Ctrl-S) and then Exit (you can alternatively just exit AP using the close window button and confirm saving changes to the file on exit).6. In C1, after being returned from AP, the image thumbnail looks okay, updated and all looks fine. 7. In C1, however, it is not possible to RENAME the file, as C1 says the 'item is being used by another process'. Essentially the file is locked from file-based operations, unable to be renamed or deleted. Investigation 1. This occurs when a raw file is converted to a 16-bit TIF files that are uncompressed, using any ICC profile, 300 px/in. fixed 100% scaling, before being sent to AP. This problem does not occur when converting to and sending 8-bit TIF files, jpegs, PSD files or any other from C1 to AP. 2. It only seems to occur when raw files are converted to 16-bit TIF prior to sending. Editing an original jpeg or TIF file, where a 16-bit TIF is made and sent to AP does not produce any issue. 3. I have tried out this problem on a similar hardware system, with the same operating system (Windows 10) freshly installed, and the same issue occurs. However, on a Windows 7 system, this issue does not occur. 4. Using SysInternals diagnostic software, I have ascertained that when the TIF file is returned from AP to C1, the process that has locked the image file is in fact C1 itself, as though it has stalled on some operation on the file once returned from AP, thus locking the file until the software is restarted. 5. Sometimes, when I have tried this, 10% of the time there is no issue, but I cannot determine the reason for this variation. 6. Using 'Edit with' in C1 to call other editing software, such as Photoshop or OneOne PhotoRaw, using a 16-bit TIF is not an issue. Using software, such as Lightroom, to call AP is also not a problem. It is specifically when pairing C1 with AP, using a 16-bit TIF as the round-trip file format. 7. I have had one other user say that they were unable to duplicate the issue, although I cannot be sure that the exact operating system, software and GPU setup were the same. While I do not expect much of an outcome on this issue, I place it here for reference should the issue ever hit another user with similar hardware, operating system and software versions. In many cases, when people try to duplicate such an issue, one of the common reasons that the issue is not duplicated is due to some variable, environmental condition or procedural steps not being mirrored. However, should anyone with this setup like to report back their own findings, I would certainly welcome the information. Thank you, Cass.

  4. Hi, I have opened a Sony RAW file in AP and also opened the same RAW file in CaptureOne. They present compeletly different on the same screen (see attached screen shots). As you can see the detail i.e. green bush mid foreground in the AP software is very very poor compared to capture one software at both 50% and 100% zoom. Also I note that the histogram in the develop persona is completely different to that shown in CaptureOne. The histogram changes when I "develop" the photo and become are more aligned. However, the detail in AP is still very very poor compared to CaptureOne, am I doing something wrong in the initial "document set up" stage of the AP process? Attached images are: Screen Shot 50% Zoom. Screen Shot 100% Zoom. Screen Shot Histograms Compared.
  5. Apologies if this has been answered somewhere already, but even Google could not find that answer for me, so here goes... I have created a CMYK document "Print (Press ready)". - Can I place RGB images in the document which will automatically be converted to CMYK on export to PDF? (InDesign workflow) - Or do I need to convert images to CMYK before placing them in the document? (XPress workflow) Many thanks!
  6. I'm currently puzzling over the simplest way to convert a mask to a pixel layer (and whether this can be made into a macro). Currently I'm at: Release mask if it is attached to any layer, or drag to top level of layers Invert mask Put black pixel layer below mask Select mask layer Merge down Put white pixel layer below this layer Select merged layer above white layer Merge down Any improvements? The attached macro does steps 2 to 8, but I can't find a way to include the release into a macro. Still, it seems usable -- you just need to do step 1 by hand. You may also need to ensure nothing is selected. Dave's Mask to Pixel Layer.afmacro
  7. Please add the ability to import CDR files. Lately, clients have started mentioning that they would like to move away from CorelDraw. You might be surprised how many Mac users are using CorelDraw via Bootcamp or Parallels. Now that Serif (Affinity) is supporting the Mac they want to migrate away from CorelDraw. However, they feel trapped with CorelDraw because: They do not want to lose their CDR files created over many years. In addition, they want to avoid exporting hundreds of files out of CorelDraw one at a time so the files could be used elsewhere. Here is an opportunity for Affinity to make friends in the Mac community. Make Affinity products able to perfectly import Adobe and Corel files. Do this and you will have an automatic customer base for a long time.
  8. hi, tried to make a batch conversion from .exr to png but when i try to add multiple files (more than 1) affinity 1.52.69 and newest beta 1.6.0.71 instantly crash it works when i add the files one by one - but thats kinda annoying... for 600 files... unhandled exeption on beta 0xE06D7363 also sent crash reports hope you can fix that soon though as i need it for job today i guess not that soon... thanks in advance
  9. Hello, When I create a RGB document in Designer and export it using one of the following presets, it always gets converted to CMYK, even when explicitly setting its colour space to RGB. PDF/X-1a PDF/X-3 PDF/X-4 The PDF settings that kept the RGB profile (regardless of explicitly setting the colour space to RGB) were: PDF (for export) PDF (for web) PDF (for print) PDF (flatten) Is this a known bug? I could recreate in both AD and AP in 1.5 and 1.6 beta 1. Thanks in advance! Bauke
  10. I've tried to make a batch conversion to change the resolution to 72 dpi. After progress, the picture resolution is still the same. If I initial the macro manual the resolution will change as expected. What is going wrong. Please help.
  11. Okay, long story short, I got a new boss and this boss wanted to rebrand. I'm an amateur and endlessly making changes to a logo isn't my idea of a fun time, so I had her open up a logo tournament. I set out the expectations of the final design, knowing it had to be a file I could work with. The designers soon realized that she had the final say and knew nothing about design, but only one of them would get the money, and that's the one who gave her a logo that looked good on the computer screen regardless of how it would print. She kept telling them she wanted a neon green, an electric purple, and he gave her an RGB logo. I requested countless versions, and the only one I can get to open right is the AI files. All of the EPS have issues, the gradients have issues, and when trying to use the CMYK versions we were provided everything prints like Pea Soup instead of neon green. I kept telling him to imbed the color profile and he keeps insisting that if I open it in Adobe it will work. I have issues with the files in AF and mac preview. I found that I can open the AI files and work on them but the colors will be off. I am going to post the files and see if you guys can help me.CW Logo Tournament.zip CELLULAR CMYK BK.ai CELLULAR CMYK.ai CELLULAR RGB BK.ai CELLULAR RGB.ai
  12. Hi, i got massive troubles when using CMYK mode on a monitor with extended range! 100 / 100 CMYK red looks like a full unmanaged RGB red. i´m using a eizo CG243W and a Dell u2413 both with extended color range. seems designer isnt able to display real CMYK values. so it is far away from a professional print solution. here´s another bug which describes the problem really well. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/29146-cmyk-sliders-up-to-255/?p=141917 the real funny thing. red isnt red, that means on my monitors a 255RGB red occurs in 2 color versions..... so far, let´s see if i get any reaction in here. regards from austria, florian
  13. Is there a way to batch convert from .afphoto format to jpeg or others. I have done a lot of editing work and all of my photos saved as .afphoto and now I would like to convert without doing one at a time.,
  14. Video Import Considering that we now live in a multimedia era in which most cameras are also capable of shooting video clips, I would like to see support to import such video clips and perform at least very basic operations (i.e., trim, copy & trim, set poster frame, etc.) Then, on export to export to a frame size, format desired (i.e., 4K -> 1080p or 720p, etc.) Such capability is already inherent in Adobe's Lightroom, Apple's basic photos app even. In consideration that most cameras, especially and obviously smart phones) are capable of shooting video clips, and the added fact we now live in a multimedia era of audio and video in addition to just images, it is important to be able to have at lest such basic function to recognize ALL multimedia in a camera and not just a part of it. For full blown video production, of course would use an NLE video post production editor. Media Browser & Catalog Again as examples, both Lightroom and Photos allows one to browse the media of a source (to include BOTH photos and video (above) for browsing and edits. I understand Affinity has a very basic functional capability for this under the photos menu, but it's just not the same. It is minimally functional and useful. I know this falls under the DAM category, but still, a basic integration of a catalog or library would be nice to have versus opening a single photo or a group of photos from the source each time to conduct an edit. Having a set of scrollable thumbnails to pick and choose on-the-fly will be convenient, useful, and productive. I dropped Lightroom because of their subscription model event though they have a very useful and functional browser for said purpose. For the interim I am using Apple's Photos which also has this same function. However, Apple's Photos apps is limited in the editting capabilities and convenience. So, for now I am sort of in limbo. Adobe has the free bridge program, but then I am using a separate application for this function rather then having an integrated solution. Thanks.
  15. Hi, In the develop persona there is a tool called overlay gradient tool. Does this tool not exist in photo persona? The reason I am asking is because some of my scans are in monochrome (no RGB), and the develop persona is not able to handle none RGB files. Which reminds me... is it possible to converse color profiles? Cheers Peter
  16. Hi I've been testing Affinity Photo (AP), and about to test Affinity Designer. This is a general question, part of which is an analysis I'm doing, after answering someones technical question on LinkedIn. The author of the post was confused with getting varying numeric values from CMYK to RGB and HEX I used AP to try out the colour sliders and chooser interface. Can anyone answer why values differ from a given CMYK value? Example: CMYK 65 0 100 0 AP Sliders = LAB 89 -70 82 / RGB 89 255 0 / HSL 99 100 50 / WEB RGB 59FF00 AP Chooser = LAB NIL / RGB 128 177 62 / HSL 86 48 47 / # HEX (CSS) 80B13E If anyone is interested, I have created a spreadsheet of my other findings. Ideas, thoughts? Dee
  17. I chose English as my Affinity Photo UI preferred language. My main OS chosen language, however, is Canadian-French. When I want to access Help from its menu, I get the Canadian-French version, which is not ...helping. Now, I can switch the OS language to English but then the keyboard mapping is all messed up. Any ideas?
  18. I am relatively new to AP and my initial project involves "converting" B&W images to color. I imagine I should be able to proceed by masking an area to work on and follow a workflow that "maps" B&W pixel values to a color range. However I have not been able to identify a tutorial or help post that shows or discusses the workflow / process. and I have to think this has been covered but I'm not searching with the right keywords etc. I would appreciated being pointed to the tutorial or existing discussion of the process / wokflow. Thanks.
  19. Hello. I hope this is the right place to ask this basic question. I'm a photographer, not remotely an illustrator. But need to convert a logo created in Photoshop {sorry, I've bought both your products but haven't learned them yet <g> } to a vector image for silk screening, not something I normally do. Do you have a description of how to do this somewhere that I haven't found or can you give me some guidance? If I did this with Illustrator, I'd first use "Threshold" in Photoshop to turn everything into blacks and whites, then import into Illustrator, select the image, then use Tracing/ High Quality Photo and export as a PNG. It's text plus a photo converted to a silhouette, or will be. What is the process in Affinity design? Should I export the image in JPEG or PSD format? Save out as PNG or other? Thank you in advance. best / jim
  20. Hi, I tried to develop NEF-Files coming from a Nikon D610. The camera Profile is not shown (see screenshot 2) and AP does not convert the camera profile into the output profile. The result is much to red in comparison to the image developed by Nikon View NX (see screenshot 1). Can you help?
  21. I need to be able to take an Affinity Designer Vector Image with many layers and convert it to a SWF File. I also, have Serifs Drawplus x6. I can take a single layer by itself and create an SVG export file. I then, open Drawplus X6 and import it. Works fine, but it can not take any multilayered vector it only see one layer. The purpose for this is to take that vector into Crazytalk Animator 2 so it can be resized. If there is a simpler way of doing it I would appreciate your response. Guy
  22. When importing text boxes from an .ai file, the text comes in as Artistic (stretch the boundary box and the letters change size rather than rearranging themselves to fit as many words as possible within the box's width). Is there a way to convert that type of text into ...and I don't know the term... "regular" text?
  23. Importing before.pdf results in incorrect fill color (black instead of light gray) of the rectangles in the bottom-right of the figure, and an incorrect (enlarged) image size, as can be seen in after.pdf.
