  1. Hi, I just learned about column guides, and realized that they would be useful for the magazine layouts that I'm doing. However, when I tested the column guides, the column shading worked fine, but I was surprised to see that I couldn't snap anything to the edges of the shaded columns or to the center of the gutters between the columns. I checked the snapping options for my document, and "Snap to guides" is enabled. Is snapping to column guides supported in version 1.8.4, and if so, what do I need to do in order to enable this? Thanks, Ken
  2. Hi, I tried to set up column guides in Guides Manager but it doesn´t seem to work.
  3. The title says it all - I am not able to create Column Guides. Designer and Photo work just fine, nothing wrong there. But in the Publisher nothing shows up at all. I've tried many many times, restarted AP, restarted laptop. Still doesn't work. The screenshots - one is from Designer, the other from Publisher. Thanks for any help.
  4. (Apologies if this has been reported. Searches didn't turn it up.) I'm taking a for-beginners online class in Affinity Publisher. The presenter uses a Mac and a pre-1.8 version of the software. I'm using Windows version 1.8. One lesson includes creating two columns, with gutter, on a master page. Then on document pages, you are to draw two frames per page with the Frame Text tool, snapping each frame to a column. On the presenter's machine, I can see the text frame snapping to all four sides of both columns. But when I draw out the text frames, the snapping happens this way: 1. Snap to top and bottom of both columns: Yes 2. Snap to left (outside) edge of left-hand column: Yes 3. Snap to right (outside) edge of right-hand column: Yes 4. Snap to right (inside) edge of left-hand column, adjacent to gutter: NO 5. Snap to left (inside) edge of right-hand column, adjacent to gutter: NO On the presenter's screen, colored guidelines appear temporarily at locations 4 and 5 to indicate that the frame text tool has reached the precise snapping point. On my screen, no guidelines appear at those two positions. Compared with what's happening on the presenter's screen, the two "NO" results were unexpected. Is there a snapping setting pertaining to columns that I need to enable?
  5. On the Export Persona of Affinity Designer, I am able to create column guides via the Guide Manager but snapping to them doesn't work. I made sure that snapping to guides is turned on the main toolbar. Snapping to ruler guides does work, yay! I would also like to be able to reposition placed ruler guides by dragging directly over them aside from editing their values on the Guides Manager while on the Export Persona.
  6. Wow, IDML import is getting better and better! Bravo! One thing I noticed in my test document: the column gutter being imported with the wrong size. In ID, I had 6mm, now there are only 1.4 mm in pub. Here is the code from the IDML "Master Sperads_uc5.xml": <MarginPreference ColumnDirection="Horizontal" ColumnCount="4" ColumnGutter="17.007874015748033" Top="42.51968503937008" Bottom="42.519685039370074" Left="25.511811023622048" Right="25.511811023622048" ColumnsPositions="0 192.0472440944882 209.05511811023624 401.10236220472444 418.1102362204725 610.1574803149606 627.1653543307086 819.2125984251968"/> : (also: the text after the bullet points is getting indented too much)
  7. Hello! In the past days I encountered an error that I had never noticed before: After working for hours with several documents consisting of about 10-15 artboards with individual column guides, the option to show/hide the column guides from the view menu disappeared several times. I had to restart Affinity Designer in order to get them back working. I have no precise recipe to reproduce this error. But perhaps somebody else has encountered it, too. One thing I do remember is, that I dragged an element on the canavas (outside an artboard), saw the colomn guides populating the whole canvas for a brief moment before they disappeared again. Afterwords I wasn't able to switch them on and off anymore. Cheers, Volker
  8. I have attempted to lay out my Higher Functioning Autistic Spectrum Communication Guide on Affinity Publisher. The results are interesting. I love the control this package gives me over typography and the excellent column guides facility. I hope you like the results although I still have a lot to learn. Added a slight edit to give the poetry a separate demarcation on page two. I used the rectangle tool with reduced opacity and placed the rectangle behind that particular column. I was surprised to find that the 'send to back' function actually sent the rectangle behind the layers which were on the Master Pages and not just on the current page. So I had to send it back one layer instead. I'm used to a slightly different functionality on PagePlus but I'm sure I'll adapt. Aspergers Information.pdf
  9. View/Guides Manager miss the feature to set different values for horizontal and vertical gutter. Another nice feature would be to create "normal" guides from the column guides. Thanks, Christian
  10. Style and colour of column guides that I am adjusting in Guides Manager are not persistant after having saved the file and restarted Affinity Publisher. see Screenvideo _Guides Manager.mp4
