  1. here's the example. How to delete this image's areas that fell outside of the canvas? Is there an option for the marquee tool to include outside of the canvas when creating a selection?
  2. Hey everyone! I was just wondering if there is an easy way or option to unpopulate/remove all placed pictures/resources from a previously defined selection of Picture Frames. Can anyone help me out and point me in the right direction? And if the option doesn't exist: Would this be a feature that would be handy for others as well? Or is it just me? 🥲 Edit: My current method (or the only official method?) since I was faced with a similar problem a few months ago is to use the Move Tool, double-click on the Picture Frame in question and hit delete. However, you have to be careful not to accidentally move the picture frame in the process. Alternatively, you could select them in the Layers Palette. But these methods certainly are not the most efficient, are they? Thanks! (Before anyone mentions Master Pages: I use them everywhere they are applicable, but the sizes of the picture frames in my current document vary too much from page to page for Master Pages to help in this case.) 😉
  3. Can we get a shortcut to delete the contents of a pixel layer? Ideally, I want to delete the contents of a layer with Delete and use Backspace to remove the layer alltogether. Currently, the former is not possible with a single shortcut.
  4. Hello, After a little search, I found that others have had issues getting clear images after saving a finished product in Affinity. I am not great with computers, and I bought Affinity because it looked simple enough to use and the one time payment vs subscription works well for me. Overall, I have been happy with using Affinity, except that my images turn out fuzzy. I am an illustrator (pen and paper) and after scanning my images, I upload them to make sure everything looks good, and save a large file for prints, and a smaller one for the web. All is well, except when I upload them, they are not as crisp and clear as they are in the program, or when I look at my scan file. Is there an easy way to combat this? I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
  5. Problem Keyboard shortcuts on the numpad are rather limited in functionality (apart from the fact that there is no differentiation between the numeric row and numpad keys), because the Shift key negates Numlock. This means that Shift+Numpad key activates the secondary function (as if numlock was turned off). It invokes Home, End, PgUp, PgDown, Left, Right, Up, Down and Clear. This means that any combination of keyboard shortcuts with the shift key becomes 'invalid' since it replicates a key that is accessed with a single press. Considering that any keyboard with a numpad has access to these stand-alone keys, it makes little sense that they are registered this way. I know some applications are faced with the same limitation, however, some (such as Blender) don't have this issue. This is on Windows 10, UK keyboard, US International layout, using 1.10.4.1198. Observation Apart from creating redundant key sequences, some of the combinations cannot seem to be assigned properly, for instance if I assign shift + Numpad 5 as keyboard shortcut, it registers as "clear". Shift + Alt + Numpad 5 becomes Alt + Clear, and Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Numpad 5 is impossible to enter, because the value box remains active on "Ctrl + Alt + Clear". Notice that the any commands assigned to key-sequence with "Clear" as value work as intended. However, it does not register when using the regular 5 key, so it is actually recording a different input than a numeric key. Expectation I expect the key-sequence to show the numbers the same way as the numeric row does, so they won't circumvent numlock when using the numpad. Better solution Or better yet, any numpad key should be registered as Num(pad) [key]. This is how Blender does it and that way, any key from the numpad, whether 1-9 or / * - + . key, they will register without issues and most importantly, may be used for additional shortcuts, see and
  6. Reseting an Affinity app to factory defaults is often suggested as a cure for various problems. While that may work, it is a very destructive step that wipes out all user customizations for keyboard shortcuts, the layout of the Tools palette & the main menu bar, fills, styles, brushes, etc. & returns just about everything to the new user defaults values. Some of these things, for example keyboard shortcuts & Styles categories, can be exported/saved prior to the reset & imported/loaded back into the app afterwards, which can reduce the considerable amount of time & effort sometimes needed to return the app to the previous highly customized state. However, there does not seem to be a comprehensive list of all the things that could be exported or saved for this purpose, or any mention of which (if any) should not be imported or loaded back into the app to reintroduce some problem the reset was meant to cure. For many of them, exporting/importing each category individually would be required since there is no global 'export/import all categories' feature in their menus, so even with a comprehensive checklist this can be a tedious & error prone process. Any guidance on this would be appreciated, as well as if or when less destructive alternatives would suffice. One example of this is I have noticed than on a Mac, some problems can be resolved by trashing the ~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Caches files or the equivalent path for the other Affinity apps (including the betas & possibly for the Photos extensions as well). Note: for anyone wishing to try this, it should be done only while the app is not running. In particular, this seems to resolve unusually long launch times & some other sluggish behaviors, but only when the contents of the Caches subfolders have become large, at least more than 1 or 2 MB.
  7. Is there a detailed list anywhere of what gets reset when the various options to clear user data are used? Some seem obvious, others not so much. Related, what if any are the differences between using the startup clear options & the similarly named ones in the Preferences > Miscellaneous panel? Also, which user preferences, if any, are stored in plist files that could be examined or copied to restore them if clearing them does not improve anything, & where are they stored? The reason I ask is the often suggested solution of clearing everything to fix some issue requires tediously resetting a lot of items.
  8. When working in Affinity, obviously everything looks incredibly crisp. But when I have text, if I switch to the pixel view or retina pixel view it, understandably gets a bit blurry. This blurriness naturally carries over to when I export and is very evident with pngs jpegs etc, while svgs and pdfs are much more clear. are there any tricks to make the text a bit more clear? I've tried outlines, i've tried adjusting tracking (i'm unable to adjust kerning for some reason - i can only select "auto"), but nothing seems to make a difference. Is anti-alias available and would that help? Any exporting tips for settings? Just to clarify, it isn't any more blurry then text in photoshop, fireworks, etc, it just seems like there should be a way to make it a bit more clear. (This came up while working on a Twitter background and I feel like I've seen other Twitter backgrounds that are more crisp). Thanks!
