  1. Been working with one of my oldest friends on this one - children book, which is something I've done in the past at a student level but always fancied doing something pro - I realised my normal ragged comic-esque style would look a little out of place so I tried to come up with a different kind of style for this one - I kind of started off with my first Affinity Designer dabblings and let it snowball from there, I've used photographs of local wood textures to create most of the art - we are just coming to the end of the book now, just 3 or 4 pages off and then Aron, my poet extraordinaire, partner in crime is gonna start fishing to get it published - I'm all pretty new to this, and would really appreciate any advice from anyone on the forum on getting a publishing deal rather than self publishing. Also, I've been dragging it out so that I'd be able to do the print ready layouts in Publisher but it's looking like I'll have to do this in InDesign CS5 - nay mind maybe we'll have Publisher for the next book in the series? --- THE TREE IN THE SKY ---
  2. Hello, I am new to the world of graphic design and using design software. Thanks to the informative videos I have found via this site, YouTube and Lynda.com., I am slowing learning. I have purchased Affinity Designer and the text book. I have illustrated and written a children's book, "The Exciting Travels of Tuffie and Giuseppe" (www.tuffieandgiuseppe.com) and used Microsoft Publisher to lay it out. I would now like to try and lay out my next book using Affinity Designer. My first book has 25 pages of about 30 paintings. I use 8.5 x 11 inch mixed media paper with acrylic ink. This is so that I can scan my artwork using a home scanner. I would love to hear any advice or about other experiences using Affinity Designer to lay out something like a very visual children's book. I also bought a Huion 1060 drawing pad which I am currently learning how to use. Thank you Ronnie McBride for your many informative tutorials. Thanks, Charla Perry
  3. So... After a few trials and errors, I have the 3rd proof back from the printers. Ohhh My Strawberry Monkey started a little while back as single comic strips but felt it wasn't the right direction. So its turned into a Children's book (under 5's) it's aimed at pre-schoolers. There is so much more to the story and I'm sure I'll tell it one day. I wrote and put the book together in Affinity Designer and yes I'm looking forward to publisher, which no doubt would've helped but it worked. Anyway, the next step is to send a copy to a few publishers and I'm also considering self-publishing. There will also be a few copies available, so you lucky people get to experience the first, (hopefully) in a series of many. So if you've got young kids and would like a copy leave a comment...Thinking of you Matt P and Chris B... (Is this also the first Children's book to come out of Designer?) Allan
