  1. edited - I'm using ver. 1.7.3.481 -open image (tried 4 or 5 different images), or create new document (created a blank document then paint bucket fill) -add curves adjustment - crash, every time, tried many (10+) times I opened an image and added a curves adjustment and it crashed. It looks like I can't make a curves adjustment layer at all without crashing Photo. Created a blank image and got the same result. I tried every type of adjustment layer and only the curves adj. failed. specs Win 7 Home Premium x64 MSI B540 Tomahawk Ryzen 7 2700x Radeon RX 590 (software version 19.8.2)
  2. Hi there, I loaded in a 32 bit EXR to Affinity Photo of a render I did, and it came in with 2 pixel layers - one with the 32 bit colour information (called RGB), and the other being a greyscale image alpha (called Alpha). Both layers have an all white alpha channel. I'm trying to copy one of the RGB alpha layer channels (they are all the same) into the alpha channel of the RGB layer to get proper transparency, and I can't seem to find a way to do it. Is there an easy way to copy data from one channel to another in Affinity Photo? Cheers
  3. I have problem copy only one channel like red from picture and paste or create new from clipboard! Always I got all channels! However, when I cut a channel, the content in the selected channel disappears. It means I have cut out the content, but all channels are sticking. it is similar when I create a new one from the clipboard. Can I just copy / cut a channel? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!
  4. Hi, I have spent hours trying to do this can anyone help? Basically I have an LRGB image of the Andromeda Galaxy but want to add in some HA (additional Red) data. I have taken a copy of the original Red data from the LRGB and blended in the new HA data and now want to put this RED-HA data back into the LRGB Red channel, replacing the original Red data. I suspect I need to create a spare channel, add the RED-HA to this and then Load the Spare channel into the Background Red. If so, the bit I cant work out is how to put the RED-HA into the Spare channel. Thanks Jon
  5. I converted my image in cmyk to do color halftone for screen printing. I go to Channel and check every CMYK layer. Composite Cyan, Composite Magenta and Composite Yellow are visible but the composite Black and Alpha are invisible? How do I print every available channels if others are not visible?
  6. How do I use a pixel layer containing a greyscale image as a layer mask so that white pixels show the current layer and black pixels hide the current layer, and grey shades in between represent partial transparancy? In the screenshot (attached) I want to use the black and white picture of the skull to mask the green square so that I end up with a green skull where the white is, and the black are would be transparent. any grey pixels would be different levels of transparancy. I really need step by step instructions as I just don't understand how to do this in AP as I am so used to doing it in Adobe Photoshop. Thanks
  7. Hi, when I render an image in 3ds Max and save as a tiff file with the alpha channel included, then when I load into Affinity the alpha channel is automatically enabled - when I disable alpha channel my image disappears. Does not behave correctly. Ideally the alpha channel should not be active when image is first loaded but can be made visible in the channels list.
  8. I don't know if the following has already been requested, just couldn't find it in the forums. I would like the adjustment layers like "Curves", "HSL" or "Levels" to remember the channel (Master, Red, Blue, etc.) I had most recently chosen to adjust. When I reopen one of the forementioned adjustment layers, they always have "Master" selected.
  9. Like the title says. I’m unable to apply a spare channel to the alpha of an adjustment layer. The function is present, like on the desktop version, but it seems that the spare channels on the iPad version are all locked to target the background layer. When I select a different active layer in the layer’s studio, it doesn’t become the new target for the spare channels. As a workaround, I have to load the spare channel to the active selection, BEFORE loading an adjustment layer. Making the active selection the mask as the adjustment is being applied. That’s cool, but it makes it hard to A/B different spare channels as the alpha of an adjustment. Here’s what I’m trying to do on the iPad version:
  10. Semi-automatic masking / masking guide tool for Affinity Photo Here is best example i can find (youtube link) - Zephyr's Masquerade tool is semi-automatic masking tool, user paint guide lines which help algorithm to solve alpha channel. Its very fast, i don't know for sure how it works, but i would guess that those guide lines descrip to the algorithm textures and colors which are wanted (or/and unwanted) for mask. This come to my mind when i saw Adobe's new automatic subject selection demo, where user don't have any control, just some kind of lucky button, so i thought serif could make better, and i think this kind of tool would be much better with better flexibility and control. And it should be non-destructive, it could be based on editable splines/vector paths (like freehand pen tool, or affinity design's Pencil tool) for example? Maybe Affinity Photo should have "Mask persona" (all masking tools in same place, with lasso selection, mask bursh, guide brush, some procedural masking tools? vector tools, refine tools etc. with easy to use possibility control and edit multiple mask channels for same layer, if layer has multiple mask/alpha channels then mask persona would be great way to control the complexity, at least it would be nice to have way to control multiple alpha layers like separated hair mask, head mask, etc. for detailed and flexible workflow)
  11. We need a way to use black and white images as a Layer Mask. I am trying to use some grain/noise images as a matte, but my final image needs an alpha channel. Currently, I have to use PS to convert my BW images to an image with an alpha channel to use. The workflow isn't very convenient. I have attached the type of image that I would like to use as a Layer Mask. You can see that creating a selection from the image would be impossible.
  12. Ordinarily, when a TIFF has been saved with 'Save Affinity Layers', if you re-open the file to continue working on it, then re-save it, Affinity Photo recognises that there are multiple layers and therefore the layers and spare channels are all kept intact. If however there is only one layer, Affinity Photo doesn't recognise that there are Spare Channels present when re-saving a TIFF file and this results in the spare channels being deleted from the file when saving it. To replicate the issue, carry out the following steps: 1) Open the attached ZIP file (it contains a TIFF with an alpha channel and a spare channel) 2) Draw on the bottom layer with a brush 3) Press CTRL + S to save the document and close it 4) Re-open the document and the layers and spare channel are all intact as it should be Now carry out these steps: 1) Open the attached ZIP file (it contains a TIFF with an alpha channel and a spare channel) 2) Draw on the bottom layer with a brush 3) Delete the layer with text on it 4) Press CTRL + S to save the document and close it 5) Re-open it and the spare channel is now gone I think Affinity Photo needs to check whether there are spare channels before saving, so that it doesn't delete the users spare channels from the document. In addition, it also needs to check whether things such as text layers are present too, because if you have a non-rasterised text layer it will also be flattened when saving, rather than keeping the layer intact. 13. In photoshop I can modify channels directly. For example, I duplicate a channel then modify it with curve, level or even the brush. Then I load the modified channel as selection. In Affinity Photo, how do I modify channels freely as I do in photoshop and load it as selection?
  14. Version 1.5.1.54 Windows Using LEVELS Adjustment, RGB selected, then choose channel RED, and as soon as the Black, or White slider is moved the histogram for RED changes back to the Master histogram. Same for Green and Blue channels. Can no longer adjust individual changes. See attached screen captures.
  15. Hello everyone! Does anyone know if there is a way in Photo to stamp alpha values? While RGB values will overwhrite A, A does not get picked up by the stamp or it will simply not overwrite RGB. Here are two images to illustrate what I am talking about: Image1, showing where I pick up colors: Image2, showing where I want to stamp: In Image2, parts of the green should be overwritten by alpha ("erased"). If this is currently not supported, could anybody move this to feature requests? Thank you for any help! Best wishes, Shu
  16. Hi all, I'm a new user of Affinity Photo, and i keep discovering thing with it. Yesterday i worked on creating a macro to automate a part of my workflow. In this macro i creating multiple "channel", and i would like to rename each of the newly created channel. It works perfectly fine out of the macro creation, but during macro creation it does not work and gives an error message. Is there anyone else facing this issue ? Thanks in advance for your help.
  17. Affinity Photo has a very nice Histogram so far, I can switch between each channel All, R, G + B All, C, M, Y + K All, L, A + B and I can activate layers and selections optional which is totally great! Thanks for that feature. But I think a luminance channel or option is needed in RGB and CMYK too, for minimum of two reasons: - I could only see and use the white and black tone spreading over the whole image - I could work without colors (incl. greyscaled icons) which confusing the eyes at work
  18. On my MacBook Pro I can't right/click on any Background channel to get the drop down ti select any of the functions associated. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  19. Hi All! I too am making the leap from Adobe to Affinity. I use Photo from an illustration perspective, working with scanned-in drawings, removing the white backgrounds, and then going crazy cutting things out, resizing, arranging, coloring, etc. It's been great so far, just getting used to where things are in Affinity Photo. My question here is: I see how one can paint an alpha channel only (equivalent to locking pixels on a layer in PS), but how do you bulk fill an alpha channel (i.e. locked pixels) on a layer? In PS, you can select the layer (with locked pixels), choose a color, and either select "fill"from the drop-down menu, or "option/command-delete". Does anyone know the equivalent in Affinity Photo? I hope that makes sense! Thanks in advance!
  20. Working through this video from 1.30ish and using Affinity 1.4.1 For some reason, with a pixel layer selected, and when interacting with the channel panel and doing a control-click on a channel to load it to a pixel selection, the context menu will not appear, which puts a stop to things. Tried on two machines and with a couple of sample files.
  21. Hi, as far as I can get (unless I miss something) there's still room for new features in the Apply Image area, which in PrePress is paramount (second only to Curves). For instance Apply Image: channel on channel (example: one document open, apply the Red channel from layer A on Green channel, Soft Light, 50% opacity). It would be astonishing if you could borrow channels from on-the-fly conversion to a different colorspace. E.g. a RGB document: Apply the "a" channel from Lab to the Composite, Overlay (being the a of Lab calculated without the need of duplicating the document). Besides, Calculations in PrePress is often very useful too (New Alpha channel which is the result of, say, Difference of Green and Blue). Thank you, Davide Barranca
  22. Thanks for such a great product. I am having problem with the channel masking. Using any background image I am unable to bring options on the channels menu. Thus I am currently unable to create any channel masks. Watched the tutorial(s), but unlike what I have seen on the video channels stand untouched. I am usind a mac. I am missing something simple, but haven't figured out what it is yet.
  23. Hi, I talked about it during beta. I would like affinity photo to have a image / "apply image" similar to photoshop. Being able to apply a channel to a layer while changing it's blending mode. I use this to : color correct getting much better color (natural look), its different than vibrance. much better. better black and white My whole portfolio have extensive use of this feature : No other feature can create such colors : http://anstellos.deviantart.com/gallery/ ps: I try hard to get the similar result in affinity. It yet cannot do it. I find myself to go back to photoshop for this feature only. That's a shame, your soft almost tick all the boxes but this is a big one.
  24. I 3D rendered an image with a shadow channel, I am trying to remove the background of the rendering with the shadow channel so that the background is removed but the shadow remains. The screenshot outlines what im trying to achieve with photoshop. Is this possible with Affinity? If so direction on how to do so would be greatly appreciated Perspective1.afphoto
