  1. Hello everyone ! Happy to share this with you today; Yes i'm back because power outage was fixed in my suburb but only for few hours then we may go back into ... no power at all for the time or number of days they decide . Not a problem at all as opportunity is given and i take it on both hands. Now let's move ! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Review and propositions for Affinity Designer 1.7.0.2 (also applicable to Affinity Photo and Publisher too) Well the new Affinity Designer load faster than what I've seen up to now and i'm really really happy with it and can just imagine how great would be the final version. Brushes are more fluid and easy to use and they flow in more natural way, it's simply a pleasure to make use of it. BUT !, because there is always a but in stages like this ! These are the few problems or difficulties i had with (that is existing since old versions): Brushes Loading was really fast (just drag and drop and click Ok) .afassets, .afpalette, and .afstyles still can't be added or loaded to the software by selecting them from the file browser using the drag and drop method. From the import window opening i can only select one item after another, would be very useful if select all is activated allowing to select everything compatible within the same folder then just click Ok/Add for the software start loading them. My Proposition to the above problem this is a proposition i have for the above problem i encountered and still encounter: Well, to me a good Fix would bean Assistant working similar to a font manager but a bit differently. It would ask the user where is the folder with desired stuffs to load then that kind of resource manager would scan that folder looking for everything compatible (palettes, brushes, styles, macros, etc.) then display it in a list (like when we try to add PS stuffs on Affinity) they would be classified by categories with level of usability and trust (orange, green and red etc.), from that place we would make our choice to activate and/or approve whatever we want (on a column with check boxes ON/OFF) and the software would just load our choice then after it is done we would receive a DONE message. That solution would make it even simple and take less minutes than leaving it to us to manually load them one by one and could be very helpful even for those using the iPad version and who have their stuffs somewhere on the iCloud. Please think about this, it may save lives. This is what I like from the new (affinity Photo) beta version : The icon used on the top bar to indicate the different personas are far away better than what Affinity had, it's more refined and i personally feel better looking at it, now left the tools icons, they need a refresh like you did with the personas icons: Please implement it on the next Affinity Designer, they are simple and beautiful. This is what i believe Serif should start thinking about or add in this beta cycle: 1- A rotate on plane functionality that will help us to rotate subjects such as shapes, beveled/extruded texts, curves etc... thus moving one step close to a real 3D capability 2- Make Designer more capable of making UI/UX with new functions or simply revised functions and why not bringing the Prototyping Persona where all prototyping for Ui/UX guys to feel at home and create the best they can or want. 3- The Fill Tool used to create gradient must now become curvable, allowing the user that create a gradient to also bend it or curve it in one or another direction or even or draw circles or complex lines with it, to me, it will make it possible to create the "up to now" impossible multicolored curved gradient that ever existed (maybe it does exist somewhere else and just don't know about... ) Well, that's everything i wanted to share with you and even bring up to light, may you have advice or corrections, please feel free, it will help us all grow ! Blessings !

    Brush won't reset to default

I'm trying to just get a basic brush but everything that says 'reset' doesn't rest them (under more button and also under preferences pane)...any other ideas or is this a bug?
  4. It would be very useful to be able to create vector patterns and brushes. Having to use rasterized images to use as pattern fills or brushes is not really acceptable and certainly not what I expect from a vector art program. I would like to create a vector graphic and be able to use it as vector art on strokes and I'd like to create vector patterns and fill shapes with this vector pattern.

    The Box Set by Wren

About The Box Set is hundreds of vector and raster brushes made for Affinity Photo & Designer. Each brush was handmade using real materials scanned at high resolutions and crafted to simulate real media. I wanted the origin of the brushes to have a heritage of the materials they are simulating. Scanning pools of watercolor, swatches of paint, and stipples of charcoal contributed to creating brushes with the same idiosyncratic material magic. My only request is that you take these brushes, with their clever names, as suggestions. They work superbly out of the box, but I strongly encourage you to adjust the sliders, rearrange or remove the textures, and discover how they can suit your hand(s). Make. Discover. Repeat. Cheers and happy art making, -Jef (WREN) RASTER BRUSHES For use in Affinity Photo and Designer. The blending brush in the Oil Set is the only one exclusive to Affinity Photo. DRAFTING INK OIL Oil Brush Dynamics Most oil brushes have blending built into pen pressure. With a single brush and hue you can adjust the luminosity of the stroke- giving it an oily blend. The Brush's color in the example above is the color of the background. A normal pressure gives you the hue without any lightening or darkening. Brushes won't change

Hello. When I'm painting a mask layer, no matter how I change the characteristics of the brushes, they are always the same. Hardness won't change, or flow. If I change the brush tip, it does change but hard edged.
  10. I have just started using Affinity Photo for Matte Painting projects but the brush window view is not very convenient at all if you have to change between different brushes during a project. Is there any way to see the brushes window in different views such as in Photoshop (attached picture) where you can see more brushes together and you are able to select them faster? Thank you David
  11. Photoshop has a saturation / desat brush nested in the dodge & burn brush tools. Can't find tyhis in Affinity Photo. The only way I can see of applying saturation to a specific area is by selecting it first - & this doesn't allow subtle changes. Can anyone help?
  12. Hi there, maybe I'm just blind, but I'm missing shortcut to jump to the next or previous brush in the brushes studio (suggestion: , and .). I'm also missing simple keyboard shortcuts for decreasing and increasing the brush hardness like the shortcuts [ and ] for the brush size. My suggestion would be Shift+[ and Shift+]. Greetz, Tekl

  15. Does anyone else get these strange bands when they use a brush imported from Photoshop?
  16. Hey everyone, I am working on converting our Adobe compatible products from RetroSupply Co. into Affinity compatible products. I am just now understanding that the vector brushes do not work in the same way that vector brushes do in Illustrator. I see that the native vector Affinity brushes are just raster images that follow a vector path. What I need help deciding is if our Adobe Illustrator brushes will be usable (and desired) in Affinity or if we should scrap the vector looking brushes and just make them with raster images. I could really use the help of some of you who illustrate with Affinity every day! Your input would be really valuable. I've attached a beta version of InkWash- our vector water color brushes. You will see some of them are named "InkWash Vector #" and others are named "InkWash Raster #". Which do you prefer the look of? Vector or Raster? You will see that the "vector" titled ones have a more traditional vector look (as they are coming from Adobe Illustrator). I am trying to decide just converting what we have is sufficient or if we should remake the textures as raster before making them into Affinity vector brushes. I really appreciate any input! Thank you! -Suzanne InkWash Beta by RetroSupply.afbrushes
  17. Greetings, I love the tools offered at Retro Supply (brushes) but unfortunately, most are tooled as Adobe Illustrator only. So I have a few questions for the collective brain. Do you know of a way to convert AI brushes to work in Affinity Designer Do you know of a source that has retro etch / engraving brushes such as the one attached Thank you ~ Jack

  20. Howdy, all - - maybe a bug in Affinity Photo for iPad? Drawn lines become clear / crisp a fraction of a second after the line is laid down. Almost like lines come out of the brush at 80% clarity and then takes a second to ‘pop’ into full clarity when complete. I didn’t notice the same behavior in the Pixel Persona of Affinity Designer with the same brush. So to test, I tried a handful of brushes, canvas sizes, etc. in both programs. AD shows my lines without a clarity delay, live, while drawing. AP seems to not be able to keep up with the same parameters so I’m a bit stumped. Otherwise this update is fantastic, I’m hooked. Really, really great app Serif. Thanks for all your work.

    Brushes to stroke a path

I hope the attached image makes this clearer and I can't figure out what's wrong (or, what I'm doing wrong). I'm trying to "ink" a pen shape with a brush/texture and although the option appears to be there, I can't find it in the online manual. It's not a deal-breaker but I've been pulling my hair out for ours (well, pulling my virtual hair out anyway because the real stuff abandoned my like my youth. ) Can someone explain please? Or is this actually a bug?
  22. Hi, 2 weeks ago I've bought brand new ipad pro and installed affinity designer and photo on the device. I've bought both affinity apps because I found the information that I can import abr files and all files are grey. I see this file on my Ipad but i can't choose this file!!! Is is just unclickable!! I'm realy mad because I've decided to buy an Ipad because I saw affinity software and right now i can't use any of my brushes. Even the simplest ones. Please for some advice! TEST.abr
  23. Excuse the duplicate topic, I've only found one thread with no recent activity. I'm having a problem loading .abr files into Affinity on my ipad pro. I've tried multiple brushes from different authors and I get (usually) the same results. The textures, more often than not, load and display at about the top third of the texture window, the rest is black. This results in the brush only being useable in the top portion of the canvas...anything below it paints a solid with no texture. I've snooped around and tried to find a fix to no success. Has anybody ran into this problem? I feel like it might be a problem translating from a pattern based texture in photoshop (but still wrapped in an ABR file) to Affinity needing a full texture image. Any thoughts would be awesome. Using an iPad Pro 10.5" with the latest ios 11 update as of Nov 27, 2017 Thanks, Kyle
