  1. Hello, While painting, one of my biggest concerns since always has been that due to the nature of the engine, the whole canvas' pixels would kind of vibrate/pixelate or move around somehow, for I believe, engine optimization reasons. While I see it fine (and common in other apps) when zooming, while just laying brush strokes, painting, I quite very much dislike it. Still, am painting now with Photo .293 customer beta, and I'm not noticing any of these effects. Has that been -happily- removed, this optimization? Or it just depends on the case or illustration, and I might not be noticing now ? Would be important to know this. Everything is working great. Is performing really (outstandingly, even) fast on a really large canvas (yes, in this bad machine). But wouldn't love to find out the "effect" appears in some situations later on, or gets noticeable then. Thank you.
  2. Hi! I've noticed quite an annoying bug when selecting and moving raster artwork within Affinity Designer's Pixel Persona. I've noticed this same issue in Affinity Photo, as well as the latest beta versions of Designer and Photo, and I have no clue why it happens. When drawing with something like the pixel brush or any brush that has a hard edge (with little to no anti-aliasing), the artwork blurs when being moved, but only when selected with a selection marquee tool, such as the lasso tool, first - see attached screen recording. This leaves a very visible difference between the selected and moved and unmoved artwork, and is even visible at 100%, which is obviously a big no-no for client work. Not totally unrelated, the selection path also seems excessively jagged on screen in comparison to something like Photoshop. I often use the selection tool when colouring my work, but the edge is noticeably jagged, even when zoomed out to 100% as well. I initially thought this may just be the pixel preview, but the jagged edge is very present - see attached screen shot, and it's also very present in the screen recording video too while making the selection path. As a final side note, a Wand Selection tool in Designer's Pixel Persona would be SOOOO helpful. Anyway, I'm not sure if these are bugs, but any advice or workaround for these things will be greatly appreciated! Screen Recording 2019-05-10 at 09.03.56.mov
  3. This subject is being discussed in two other threads. But in each case, the discussion has shift towards peripheral considerations, leaving no chance for the initial question to be answered. I voluntarily put here no links to those threads in order to prevent readers to be parasitised by pheripherical and noisy considerations. What should be strictly discussed here : The "Merge Down Layers" (Ctrl+Shift+E) , a very common frequently used command, in some case (see details below) currently corrupts the image: contents of merged layers are blurred. Question: is there a good functional reason for this function to work so, knowing there's a simple way (doing a rasterization of the bottom layer before merging) to achieve the expected result : a merge that simply preserve the data of each layer ? Or is there currently an option to be activated to achieve in any case automatically the expected result ? Details : afphoto file attached to reproduce the bug reproduced in : and Beta on Windows 10 and 1.6.11 on macOS Sierra reproduced with "Force Pixel Alignment" or "Floating point coordinates" options on and off: those options are no way a solution to this problem. a simple way to reproduced the bug with two pixel layers is to apply a transformation on the bottom layer before merging (note: by doing so, coordinates of the layer are no more integer ones) a simple way to prevent it : rasterize the bottom layer before merging For many users, the current behavior of the merge function is a fondamental problem (you can corrupt your work with one click if you're not aware). We would be glad to have an answer to the question above or the function to be fixed. Cos there is no technical limitation considering our use (it may not be elegant, but the merge function could simply process a rasterize operation before applying, which is the manual action required currently if you want to preserve the quality of your image). PS: actually, there's a video that illustrates this tricky behavior here Demo . See the seventh post
  4. Hey, I was wondering if anyone had figured out a way to use a mask, or a z-depth image to blur an image? In Photoshop you can use a black and white image to partially blur an image, to get a narrow depth-of-field effect: I've already tried to use a full-image blur with a mask, but that gives 80s-esque halo effects. The halo is there because the whole image (BG+dress) is blurred, while the dress should not be taken in to consideration for the BG-blur. It is quite noticable around the dress here: Anyone have a usable method for this effect in Affinity?
  5. When using the frequency separation dialogue, it would be great to be able to chose the type of blur to apply: Gaussian, Median or Bilateral, since each as a different effect on the edges. Thank you
  6. You’re propose your app as a tool for work in vector. This is not true. You can add a lot of elements easily, work with color, blur etc. But once you need to scale the vector object you’ve created YOU SHOULD MANNUALLY GO TO EACH OBJECT AND SET “SCALE WITH OBJECT” Could you please set as priority ticket for your developers add a SCALE FUNCTION when you can just click on the object, click in Edit Menu “scale”, set ratio or percentage and you will get scaled option of your image. In addition your export feature need so much power from my Macbook that comparing it to the Illustrator. I’d better avoid all of those coll things you’re proposing just to get scalable and adopted vector file.
  7. Good Morning, I have been looking for a way to create a Gaussian blur gradient. That is to say slightly blurred on one end of an object and progressively becoming more blurred toward the other end of the object. Specifically a shadow of an object (pole) composted into a photo. I have been told that there is a way to accomplish this in PhotoShop using a channel selection and applying a gradient to the selection. Is this possible with Affinity Photo? If so how. Thank you. 8. Trying to replicate the process (link) to blur (bokeh) an image background and use a mask to retain sharpness of foreground. Desktop version seems to work fine. Ipad version mask requires precise tracing of foreground vs the general masking (black) and having image show properly per the desktop version. How can the ipad version behave like desktop version? Using an Ipad Air2. Does Affinity Photo run differently on iPad Pro?
  9. Well i'm a bit surprised that some issues are coming back to the surface but maybe it's on my side ! 1- Have noticed my exports get blurry every time : tried to design in A3 then export in A4 then A5 size (PNG: is my mostly used - TIFF or PDF) which was working like a charm in previous release but now they get blurry 2- Went to my Affinity Preferences and now i see : Display (OpenGL, OpenGL Basic, Software) .... Never touched this before so i would like to know if changing one of this would fix the issue and what each one is or supposed to do. 3- What is Dither gradient ? Would it help ? in what conditions ? Just remember that the blurriness disappeared with one of the updates (can't recall which one) but now it's back ! So, Your help and support would be appreciated helping me fix this and get back on the road.
  10. It would be great to be able to select the order of FX on shapes. Oftentimes I want to blur the shape of a vector object, but not necessarily the noise setting in its color. Perhaps adding Checkbox to the Blur FX panel to bypass blurring the Noise attribute? Thanks for your consideration and all you do
  11. Please add a radial blur to FX list, or just expand the Guassian blur options to include different blurs. Thanks.
  12. I am looking for an easy way to blur some little parts in a photo. My classic car photos have sometime people in the background. To garble the faces I want to blur these. Is there an easy way to do it?
  13. When trying to add a shadow / outline or something from effects on to a layered or grouped item the outline lets say turns green instead of red. Why would this be? I can't for the life of me work it out. P.s. I am a newbie to Affinity products and the forum. Thank you Andrew Windsor. bowling1.afdesign
  14. Hi all Affinity Photo friends, two questions: Is there something like a Clipping Mask as in Photoshop? It seems to be, that the tweaking made in Effects tab has zero effect on e.g. Masks and Adjustment Layers. In case I don't do something wrong or just couldn't figure out how to do it: This must be urgently added... Need to blur a mask non destructively all the time. If there is a possibility, please let me know, many thanks in advance. Appreciate any reply!
  15. Hey beebs! I'm using the trial version, tried to use the Gaussian blur but it makes some edges when moved, I guess it made to after I merge the filter. I told my self it would be a rendering thing but it turned to be rendered with the edged as you can see in the photo attached. Please I need help with this error! Cheers!
  16. Hello, I have been wondering and trying to get a constant Blur around the sharp edges of a photo. I found tutorials for Photoshop but I couldn't figure out how to apply that on Affinity Photo. It used to be that the live filter layers could be edited by creating a mask but that worked really bad to not anyway and I am wondering if there is a way to have the outlines of a photo extremely blurred, so that it fades away? Thanks.

    Blurred object render bug

Combined blur effects on object shows unwanted rectangular areas on the edge of artboard. Screenshot and source file attached. xport to PNG exports with the bug, export to PDF seems to be ok. affinity blur render bug.afdesign
  18. This has been an issue for a while now. The blur brush tool adjustments in the tool bar (opacity, hardness and flow) don't seem to be doing anything. I've been using affinity photo now for about 7 months now. This never used to be an issue - the opacity, hardness and flow sliders would all have an effect on the blur brush tool. However all of the sudden, one day they stopped working and the blur brush tool is stuck on max blur! Can anybody tell me why or how to fix this? Note: these adjustments work just fine on paint brushes, burn/dodge brush tools etc its only an issue with the blur tool.
  19. Hi all I want to blur my mask. If I activate "Gaussian Blur" as Effect of an Adjustment Layer, it does not apply the effect to the mask. Checking "Preserve Alpha" has no effect either. HSL mask in attached image selected by Alt+Click on HSL Layer Greetings, Roland
  20. Hi guys, I know Affinity doesn't have a Feather option, but is there anything similar? I need to apply something similar to Feather on a vector object, and I need it NOT to be rasterized in Photoshop. I tried the Gaussian Blur in Affinity, but that rasterizes the object on export. Anyone know a way or some workaround? Thank you, Chris
  21. The Filter use up to 700% CPU and never stops. I have to kill Affinity Photo.
  22. Problem Gradients have bothered me forever, not only Affinity but every piece of software that has them. Turns out that both gradients and blur are subject to the same problem, which is that they are not performing the color average calculations correctly. The issue is best explained in this video. The gradient is on the left and the blur is on the right. The color between these two is too dark. This happens for every color combination. You can also see the edges of the gradient because it is being calculated linearly. The fix below using gradients is still wrong because it still is victim to the darkness resulting from the bad average calculation. This is also a good example of the linear gradient issue because you can see a definitive purple line down the center. This is my best attempt to fix the linear gradient and make it more logarithmic This calculation issue is also extremely visible in the color chooser The examples above are all using Adobe RGB, not sRGB. Suggested fix Idea 1 Because many documents are now using the wrong calculation, my suggested fix would be to add an option to the gradient tool for what type of calculation to use in order to maintain compatibility with older documents. Idea 2 Take the Photoshop approach and just make it a document setting (and turn it on by default for new documents). Result Fixing this will result in a more accurate and pleasing gradient and blur tool. Fixing this will also fix the linear gradient problem, which causes the center and edges of gradients to be extremely visible since they are not being calculated logarithmically to compensate for how humans perceive brightness/color. Here is a snapshot of the video I linked above showing what the blur and gradient should look like:
  23. Creating a seamless texture with a photo : If I copy a selected part of the picture, the pasted copy of the part is always blurry. Hoped this would be a graphic bug but it stays blurry even after updating the view. Any suggestions ?
  24. Hi all, Is there an average blur feature on the iPad affinity software? I use a lot on compositing, would anyone recommend another way to get the mean color of an image? Thanks in advance! -jd
  25. Hi Affinity Forum. I´m using Affinity Photo iPad Beta / iPad Pro 12,9" 1.Gen Feature request for the awesome Affinity Photo iPad App: Depth of Field / Tilt Shift with two finger functionality With one finger the lines are going all over the place, it would speed up the workflow, if i can hold down another finger to keep the lines in horizontal position. Affinity Photo Mac / Windows already uses the SHIFT key to move around the lines with more control and that leeds to a much quicker workflow. Please add this feature to AP iPad, this would help to move around the lines horizonatlly and to stay in place. For example: I created a Affinity Photo Tutorial yesterday, i´m using the Filter - Depth of Field - Tilt Shift with holding down the SHIFT key on Mac.
