  1. Are there any plans to add scripting support? I notice there is no Applescript library at all but am interested to know if there are plans to add Applescript or perhaps Javascript support. Virtually everything we do as far as creating PDFs, packaging, placing images and text, formatting, proofing, sending pages to print etc is done via script. Tagged text goes hand-in-hand with scripting so I think this needs to also be supported.
  2. Hi everyone, I make a calendar every year for my large extended family with all the birthdays and anniversaries printed on their respective dates. I started this custom several years ago, and at that time used Microsoft Publisher 2007 to whip up a calendar template for the year, and then added text boxes with all the holidays and special dates. Needless to say, that was not a very efficient way of doing things... Every year I had to manually move every single text box to the new calendar and make sure they all were more or less lined up and evenly spaced. This year I suddenly realized that I had Affinity Publisher at my disposal! So I went searching about these forums to find out a better, more automated way to publish calendars. A few posts, such as this one on calendar automation, and this one on data merges gave me some guidance in the right direction, and eventually I figured out a way to make a calendar in AfPub using the power of data merge to do the heavy lifting of inputting the dates and the power of text styles to make it all look right. Needless to say, this will save me a lot of time in the future! I'm attaching an AfPub template and a sample .csv file. Anyone is welcome to use/customize these if they would like. I'm sure there are more efficient ways of doing things that I might have missed, so I'd appreciate any constructive feedback you might have to offer! Enjoy! If you have questions about how (or why) I did something the way I did, feel free to ask! Downloading the samples and running the data merge correctly should give you results that look like this: Other resources that were useful: Ubuntu Font: https://design.ubuntu.com/font/ Affinity Publisher Data Merge Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU98GmaQsFQ Deep Dive Data Merge in Affinity Publisher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wav8wuucZUY 2022-afpub-calendar.csv 2022-afpub-calendar-template.afpub
  3. I find the fields feature to be very useful, but it would also be useful to be able to be able to define your own custom fields.
  4. Hi, I was wondering if there is any solution for my problem. I am using Affinity Designer for creating documents for my clients, all of them are based on few templates. I have at least two artboards in each template and I export them to two filetypes - jpg and pdf. Here is my workflow: I am opening last saved document of some kind - e.g. document-1005, then I am editing it with new data and then I am saving it as document-1006. Then I am exporting (ctrl alt shift s) each artboard as jpg and pdf - because filename of Affinity Designer file is kept - its all easy for me to keep filenames constant (I have in one plce files document-1005.pdf, document-1005.jpg, document-1005.afdesign). What would be perfect for me is to use slices to export. Right now if I choose slices - I would need to change slices name everytime when exporting them. I am looking for some simple solution like what I created in Photoshop. Simple java script - it can create subfolders (when I need) and/or save file as jpg/png/psd with prefix or suffix added to original filename. Is it possible in any way? Regards, triforcesolutions
  5. Hi there, I want to localise my UI assets using the Data Merge feature, and the naming of the PNGs is part of the localisation too. Is there a way to name Layers/Groups/Artboards picking these from a CSV (just as I do with content) so I could easily auto-generate slices' names on creation from Export Persona?
  6. Question: In Affinity Photo Export Persona, is it possible to set the export path relative to the source document? Issue/situation: I have a small AppleScript setup which creates a predefined folder structure for most of my commercial photo work, and once I'm done editing an image I will need to export it in multiple resolutions. The exported files are always placed in a fixed location relative to the source document and it would be great if there were an option to then export relative to the source document. My folder structure looks as following: Project folder name – 01 Source –– 01 phocus capture –– 02 capture one –– 03 other – 02 process –– 01 focus stacking –– 02 retouch ( export from retouch folder into low res, high res and website ) –– 03 assets – 03 export –– 01 low res version ( low res versions folder, always relative to the source document in 02 process / 02 retouch ) –– 02 high res version ( high res versions folder, always relative to the source document in 02 process / 02 retouch ) –– 03 contact sheet –– 04 website version Operating system: OSX Catalina 10.15.3 Affinity Photo: Version 1.8.3 Any help or input on this matter is much appreciated, as I'm considering moving from other editors to Affinity Photo. Thank you in advance. PS: if this post is in the wrong forum, then please let me know, and I will submit it in another.
  7. I’m probably more surprised by the lack of a dedicated workspace for painting than I am from the lack of any significant UI customizability. I’m loving all of the quality of life improvements you’ve made but there’s a big question mark over having more purpose-built perspectives than just photo ops. Editorials aside, it would be great to have you partner with a few professional illustrators/fine artists to come up with a sandbox for digital painting. Perhaps splitting the mixer from the regular brush as distinct tools; and enhancing the brush metadata to make it clearer which brushes work best with which of the two primary tools. I’d also love to have a mixing palette or color picker that I can move around for inline sampling and comparisons. There’s a lot of room for innovation in the perspective space on this pipeline.
  8. Hello! I believe power photoshop users would know that there is a way to batch process files using data set from a txt or a csv file. Those type of options allow us to create large number of files say: ID Cards or Visitng Cards with different names with ease. It would be amazing if affinity people can add such possiblities to affinity suite, especially designer or photo. I sometimes have to do such work and it is a big headache to create everything one by one manually. I know affinity templates can make your work easier but that is sort of a manual task too. I feel there is a lot more affinity templates can do with such dataset and variable connection capabilities. Hope this is the reason why affinity thought of implementing affinity templates since there isn't a great deal of difference between a normal file and a template file. Hope this is a valuable input. (People who agree can react to this post and show support for the request of this feature!) Have a great day!
  9. New here — not much luck yet with forum search. If there's a discussion about this, apologies for not having found it. Back in the Neolithic I used QuarkXPress, which supported a tagging method for text import: Simple codes embedded in plain text were transformed into complex formatting during import. The competition didn't have such a feature at the time. It was among several reasons for QXP's becoming the program of record for book pagination (until InDesign came along). Even years before microcomputers took over the world, the typesetting systems I used had tagging and translation-table features. Same purpose: Prepare text containing simple codes, then get complex formatting during text import. The machines' CPUs ran at glacial speeds compared with what we have now. But the text-import systems were fast and efficient. It's orders of magnitude faster than importing plain text into a design/pagination program and then hand-formatting it. Search/replace is not efficient unless a program supports complex search/replace enabling it to find starting and ending tags and formatting text located between those tags. Even at that, having to do it repetitively is tedious and time-consuming. (If search/replace can be controlled via scripting, that certainly helps.) Manipulating text outside the pagination program is inherently more efficient. It can be done with powerful and fast tools ideal for that purpose (Python, Perl, Ruby, and so forth). Affinity Publisher looks like an excellent contender. It too needs this kind of feature. If the company has no such plans for the near future, I hope the program has a plug-in architecture enabling a third party to add this functionality. To anyone importing a lot of text, that kind of automation is worth paying for.
  10. Hi guys, I think Affinity is the future of design software. The one thing keeping me from switching from Adobe to Affinity is the scripting/automation feature. I have a bunch of scripts running in Photoshop and Illustrator and can't think about switching to Affinity and doing things manually again. You probably got this request earlier, but I'm just signaling the importance of automation/scripting in design software I hope this feature will appear soon All the best from Poland, Sebastian from Keyshorts
  11. Friends, I'm using Affinity Designer 1.10.4 on a Mac Mini running Big Sur 11.6 and a client send me lots of icons to fix line width and size. When I open the file, I have 3 art boards full of icons. I'm trying to do the easy parts first and then go to the complex ones. In my mind set, all icons at a same height and width is a matter of selecting all and apply the correct size, right? I mean you can do that practically on any design app out there (Inkscape, Acorn, Vectornator, Pixelmator, Illustrator and many others) How can I do this in Designer?? I tried all the things that come to my mind with no success at all. Do I need to create a macro? Using a third party app like Keyboard Maestro? Any help or solution will be greatly appreciated to it.
  12. A MacOS Automator service plugin/workflow, programmed by yours truly: “Activate All Affinity Studio Panels” FAQ: What does it do? It contains a nifty AppleScript code that goes through the menu View > Studio, checks for all panels without a ✓ check mark and activates them all at their respective last position (if any). That's all. Why does it do that? Because otherwise you'd have to repeatedly open the menu and the submenu again and again, activate each panel one by one. Which is – pardon my French – a major p.i.t.a. As in, literally, a pain in the arm. Been there done that. How do I use it? Upon installation in ~/Library/Services (see included ReadMe) or in /Library/Services if you want to activate it for all users, you can run it from the Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher menu > Services > Activate All Affinity Studio Panels. You can assign a custom keyboard shortcut via System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services. Heck, you can even disable it from there if it annoys you. (But why should it? Hey, it's a Good Thing™!) It will only do its Good Thing™ while one of your Affinity apps is running frontmost. Should you accidentally launch it while using another app, it will only inform you that it can't do anything. Can it do any harm? I don't think so. But if you're paranoid, open the *.workflow document with the Automator app and see for yourself. It's open source. What does it cost? It's free as in beer. That is… feel free to contact me if you'd like to buy me a beer. I won't say no! Where can I get it? loukash.com/download What's there? You'll be able to download a file named "Activate_All_Affinity_Studio_Panels_v1.0.zip". Inside the ZIP archive, there are two files: • Activate All Affinity Studio Panels ReadMe.pdf – which you should read, obviously… • Activate All Affinity Studio Panels.workflow That's all. My website runs on Wordpress, so it will automatically attempt to set a few cookies. Feel free to reject them. Enjoy!
  13. I love it if there was a way to script affinity products. JavaScript or Lua or anything really. Ideally all features would be scriptable so I could use Affinity to generate stuff or build actions or load/export a bunch of files. I don't need personally need a UI to get started though I'm sure some folks would love an Actions palette
  14. Hey everyone, so I found those templates to export iOS icons and another document for Android apps. Since, we are developing an app in Flutter, this document is perfect fit. So I created a template doing both at the same time. Enjoy it. Follow instructions in the document and please write a comment for any bug / suggestion. App Icon Exporter - v1.afdesign
  15. Well, I have not a lot to say, the title says it all. Affinity line of products have great tools and impressive functions but I strongly and deeply believe it is time for the thing to get an Ai. There are great benefits from implementing Ai with deep learning. Resize, crop, selection, tone map, snap, resources management to only list these can get great benefits from it. Even most common tools such as pen tool, fill tool, transparency tool, defringe, haze removal, live perspective, blend/replica tool etc can benefit from it to. Devs should think about and put something on the rails, please don't the 100% ready route implement step by step, tools by tools and have us to work with it and revert telling how it is doing so you can better it and deliver a top notch or next plus ultra software line of products. Blessings !
  16. Do you support fields such as ‘heading fields’ that can be put in master pages so that on the document they contain the value of the last header so far, to enable header information for long documents? Similarly ‘fields’ that can be used for cross references to other parts of a long document?
  17. I am currently designing some custom blu-ray covers for my films at home and build everything off a basic template file. When I edit in the release date of the film I have to adjust the year in a text field on the front, on the back, and multiple times in the copyright block below the barcode. I was thinking it would be great if I could edit all of these at the same time so I don't have to hunt down every instance of it. I think the best way to do this would be to have a system of global variables. I could create a custom variable called [Date] and embed that in my template file. When I start to work on a new film cover I would simply set that variable to equal a different year and in one action I will have saved a lot of time. The same logic could apply to graphics as well if a user needed to replace a logo.
  18. I need to automate Affinity Designer to execute the following batch process (in this order): 1. Load a specific SVG file 2. From Affinity Designer, print the loaded SVG file to a specific PDF printer to a specific location 3. Wait for the PDF file to be created 4. Load the created PDF file in Affinity Designer 5. Export the loaded PDF file to a specific SVG file in a specific location using a specific SVG export preset Is this possible via command line or with a macro?
  19. Hi, in Affinity there are nice tools to stack photos (focus, panorama, ...) :-) It is not possible to sent files from outside the program directly to this tools. But this would be nice, becaus of integration in Lightroolm and similar software. In the moment you can sent more photos to Affinity, but you are not able to use them in the stacking tools. Of cause, a "real" Lightroom integration would be the best for the workflow. For the moment it will help, if there will be a way to send photos to all tools in Affinity (and reimport the result). Regards Stephan
  20. Well... the subject :) I was searching help and online tutorials, but failed to find the definite answer. If it is not possible, please consider it as a feature reqiuest
  21. Hello everybody, With my first post in this forum I wanted to request a tutorial of how to sensibly create from a given (previously designed) instance of an entity, e.g. a ticket, a whole set of thos entities whereas they only differ in a single text property, like serial number or ticket code. Also given is the set/list of valid ticket codes. I hope this is not too much to ask Cheers
  22. hi, I think it could be great if Affinity products embraced open format too. I cannot stress enough the point highlighted below. http://mjtsai.com/blog/2017/03/13/sketchs-open-file-format/ It's pretty obvious that the tools which will provide automation will destroy the traditional ones. I already discussed how not having the eBooks version of the Design Workbook was a mistake in another thread today but if AD miss that boat, I will clearly switch to Sketch because nothing can beat automation productivity.
  23. Hello everyone! Do you know if there is a way to record changes made to brushes? It would be nice to be able to just click on a macro to set, for example, 120px, 25% opaque, 100% flow, 50% hardness. Best wishes, Shu
  24. Hello everyone! Does anybody know when exactly continous export (which can be accessed in the Export Persona) writes data? Does it save each time I change the document (and an entry gets created in the History)? Does it overwrite each time the application loses focus? As I am using an SSD, I don't really want to overwrite a file each time I am doing some small changes, resulting in hundreds or thousands of writing processes in a short period of time. If it depends on the OS: I'm using a Mac running OSX 11.6. Best wishes and thanks for any help! Shu
  25. Hi Just acquire Affinity Designer for Windows. Does anyone know if the program supports automation like the one I have with CorelDraw and Visual Basic for Applications? Regads
