  1. I have hundreds of images of various sizes, mostly very large sizes, that I want to resize to a maximum width of 1920px, at 72DPI, RGB colour mode, JPG format. The height should be variable since the original images have various heights as well and I need to keep the aspect ratio to prevent distortions. (1)is this possible with Affinity Photo? (2)what would be the steps for the resizing to record as a macro. (I tried recording resizing one image and then use that recording for a batch job but AP used also a fixed height on every image resulting in many distorted images)
  2. Hello, everybody again. I have a problem trying to crop a photo with the exact aspect ratio that Instagram requests for its publications. Instagram asks for the following ratios, 1:1, 4:5 or 1.91:1 The first two I accept without problems, my problem is when I want to crop an image with the horizontal aspect ratio 1.91:1 I can not place decimals. I tried to do a mathematical operation to make it into Pixels and I got the following measure 1080x565,45 px with the maximum width that Instagram asks for. But in Pixels I can't place decimals either, it's a bug or I can't really set this kind of measurements. Thank you very much if you can help me.
  3. Hi, i am searching for any option to reset any squeezed or transformed picture to its original aspect ratio and to scale pictures numeric in %. while the rotation can be set to zero in the Transform Studio there is nothing like "Reset X/Y to 100%". The four different scale-options in the Pictureframe Properties don´t reset to the original aspect ratio of the file once the content is distorted. When working with files like floor plans, it is necessary to make exact changes like: 25% back to 75% etc. there should be deninitly x% and y% in the Transform Studio. I would like to have the option "Reset X/Y to 100%" at the image properties or some easy way to reset distorted images with a click thanks!
  4. Hello, if I take photos with my camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC G81) with aspect ratio 16:9 and open them with preview on my Mac everything is fine and I see them in 4592 × 2584 pixels. But if I open them in Affinity Photo my photos are shown in 4608 x 3464 pixels. Do anyone have an idea how Affinity can show my photos with correct aspect ratio? Thanks and best regards Jonas
  5. Hi all! The export persona with the possibility to define slices is already a great feature. I'm looking for the possibility to set the aspect ratio per slice independently of the pixel. One slice in 16:9, another in 9:7 ... and then I want select the size/area with the mouse. I don't find this possibility. Can anyone help me? Thanks Manu
  6. The crop tool is difficult to use. I would like it to retain the sizes last entered and be able to constrain movement to one dimension (like photoshop shift move). Say I have an image in 3:2 aspect and I want to crop it to 16:9 for HD video. So I can enter 1920 hit tab and then 1080 and there my crop is, taking the full width of the image and cropping equal amounts of the top and bottom off. Great. Now I want to move it vertically to retain desired composition. If I drag it vertically, there's no way to stop the crop region from drifting off the image to the left or right which will leave a strip of background down one side or the other. So I have to reduce the crop size to be sure I don't get any unwanted background pixels. It seems the crop tool has no awareness of the image boundaries. Next I move to the next image and have to begin from the top entering the dimensions in the aspect fields. It would be better to emulate photoshop and have the aspect retained in the crop tool until it is cleared or changed. The current usage is clumsy enough to force me back to Photoshop for cropping website header images or video posters etc.
  7. Hi, I would like to reconstruct a process of Photoshop and can not find the right way. My intention is to select a section from a picture in the aspect ratio of 1.35:1, to cut this out and to export the section as a jpg for web application. I already have the problem that I can save the said aspect ratio, but can't select it afterwards. Could someone please briefly describe the procedure? And sorry for not being an english native speaker Thanks Sven
  8. Hello everybody I have a question concerning the export persona: I often need to export pictures for screen presentations which means a 16:9 aspect ratio. Is there any way to restrict the slices tool to a certain aspect ratio the way the crop tool does? It seems like an obvious feature to me, but I cannot find out how to do this. Thanks Enno
  9. Hi, I love Affinity Photo. There's only one feature that keeps me from switching completely and opening Photoshop anymore. I'm doing lots of Pixel Art for Games and in Photoshop, you can set the pixel aspect ratio to be other than square. Here you can see that a pixel is actually 2:1, 2 pixels wide and 1 pixel tall. This is the standard multicolor mode for many old computers like the C64, Plus/4 etc. It would be fantastic to have this on your feature list. I can't stand using Photoshop anymore. Help me. Cheers, Esshahn
  10. Hi, I am using anamorphic lenses to take photographs and I need to change the size of the image in percentage, that is, instead of units of measurement (cm, pixels, etc.) it would be nice to put the % that will be magnified. In my case it is 133% horizontal and 100% vertical (1.33x anamorphic lens) I think it's not a difficult feature to implement. Cheers. David
  11. Hi guys, the following issues I just discovered: enable the aspect ratio and then scale an object interactively via mouse by click and drag on the width-text-label on the transformation panel (the marked "B" in the attached picture) status quo: only that value for width will be changed (see right image in the attached picture) expected: width and height will be changed at the same time, because of the enabled aspect ratio Cheers, Stefan.
  12. Hi. I'm using affinity designer 1.5.3.69 I found this behavior quite disturbing (I'm not sure if that's the correct word) When you resize/ scale single shape/ selection of shapes using corner handle, the default scaling method is "free scaling" instead of aspect ratio/ constraint proportion. But if you resize a group of items, or text, or image, the default resizing method is "constraint proportion/ aspect ratio". Thanks.
  13. I have a lot of photos form a shooting. I am now editing them and finally want to export sections (details) of the images for use in a webshop and on facebook. So I need to export a square image, and one in the h:w ratio that facebook requires. Obviously, I want to define the location and size of the slices for each photo individually (because I need to decide on the detail I want to show), but all the slices should have the same aspect ratio (and export pixel size) for all photos. I thought the export persona is great for this, but it appears quite clumsy to 1) create a slice in exactly 476x714px, then 2) scale the slice frame to fit my desired detail, then to 3) define the export width as actually 714w so that the exported image results as 476x714px. I thought there must be smarter way to do this for each photo. Can't I create some kind of template that has a 476 : 714 aspect ration slice associated with a 714w export? I noticed a menu called "create template for export settings" (translated from german), but it is grayed out. How would you tackle this?
  14. I have searched this site and read guide in app. I cannot get the lock aspect ratio to work. When I select the lock icon in Transform Studio the shape still free transforms (aspect ratio is not locked). I cannot select "constrain" in the shape menu. Touching screen with finger while dragging shape with pencil does not lock aspect ratio either. I am using an iPad Pro 1 with Apple Pencil, (IOS 10.3.3, Affinity version 1.6.4). Please help
  15. I created a macro in which I press ⌘⌥I, type 2000 in the 2nd box, select Bicubic, and press resize. When I run the macro, the result doesn't preserve aspect ratio, and I suspect it doesn't use Bicubic, either. What can I do to make this work? Bobby
  16. Hello, I have a problem with the aspect ratio, if I´m drawing a ellipse or a square. In the optionfield "transform" if i set the aspect ratio to locked and i resize the object with the mouse, it doesn´t matter if i set it locked or not. It´s only working if I´m pushing the shift button. Only if I´m setting the value manual, it´s locking it. I don´t know if this is wished or bug, it just confuses me a bit. Cheers, christian

    # Ratio bug in Affinity Designer

Dear all, I’ve experienced a severe bug in the Affinity Designer app for MacOS. The other day, I’ve designed a photo frame plus passepartout and inserted photographs in there. To make my life easy, I took the actual sizes of the future frame and therefore set-up a canvas of 600 mm x 800 mm, created a photo frame of 500mm x 700mm with a passepartout accordingly. The original photographs have an aspect ratio of 2:3. Now the bug: I ended up with a passepartout with the inner dimension of 375 mm x 500mm which completely framed the photograph. 375mm x 500mm has however actually an aspect ration of 3:4 and not 2:3 as the original picture. But still the Passepartout framed the full photograph! I’ve discovered this bug to late unfortunately, as I bought 8 passepartout with this ratio of 375 x 500 which cost me around EUR 100. As a proof, please see a screenshot from Affinity Designer and Adobe Lightroom both showing the same photograph. In Lightroom, I’ve used the same aspect ration than in AD (= 375mm x 500mm) and you can see that Lightroom cuts the photograph on the left & right side while AD show the full picture. Best Lorenz
  18. When I create curves with Pen tool I notice following strange behavior: If the curve is completely straight, and the nodes are horizontally or vertically aligned, locking the aspect ratio will cause the nodes and the line to disappear. If the curve had a stroke, it will remain visible until refreshed, for example upon zooming, transforming a parent object or reloading the document. After that the curve is gone and cannot be restored even from the document history. Only an empty layer object remains. This bug is reliably reproducable on Affinity Designer 1.5.1 Mac with following steps: Create a straight, horizontally or vertically aligned curve with Pen tool. Add stroke for testing the disappearance on refresh. In constraints select either one of the locked aspect ratios. The nodes and the curve should now be gone. Zoom in or out and the stroke should disappear.
  19. Hi there, I've set "do not constrain by default" for the move tool / scaling in my preferences. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/upload-media/monthly_09_2016/post-1198-0-66436200-1473232311.png Unfortunately this has no influence to the "place file" function. Is this a bug? Or do I need a feature request for it? If so: I hope it is possible to have an option in preferences for ignoring aspect ratio for placing a file too. :) Cheers, Stefan.
  20. I have now resized this image in both Affinity and P/S Elements, and Affinity is stretching the image rather than maintaining the aspect ratio. I'm working on an ad for print. An artist sent me a huge 46.294" x 29.486" image. When I try to Document/Resize Document, and change the first dimension to 1.75", the second jumps to 0.652". The lock in engaged. The correct action by P/S Elements is to set that dimension to 1.135". I should mention that I had to crop the image first because the studio was showing in the background. Why is Affinity Photo squashing the image? image_cropped.afphoto
  21. As the title suggests, I find the resizing modifier keys inconsistent in both applications. Example: Open Designer Choose a primitive shape and hold down the shift key as you place it on the canvas so it has an aspect ratio of 1:1 Now grab one of the corner handles and shift-drag to resize your object and it retains that aspect. Select Layer -> Rasterize Grab a corner handle of the object and shift-resize it Undo because that's not what you expect to happen Re-grab the corner handle and hold down option instead and it retains aspect ratio. Now grab a side handle and try the same thing. Option has no effect, shift retains aspect ratio. Is this an error? Or is there some internal logic that I'm not appreciating? Or is there some obscure setting that means this is only affecting me?
  22. How do you lock the aspect ratio when cropping? In Photoshop you hold down the shift key while dragging the corners of cropping frame, but I can't find the Affinity equivalent.
  23. Hi, Hope this is an easy one. The shift key on my macbook pro doesn't keep the aspect ratio on a group object that contains an illustration & text. I'm using Affinity Designer ver 1.4.1. Thanks!
  24. Hello everyone, Is it possible to crop an image to exact measurements? Say i have an image i need to be 3657 by 720 pixels can i do that with affinity? I often need to make exact pixel size graphics and this program looks like it would be amazing to help. Any info would be great and thank you.
  25. I continue this topic: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/560-selection-marqu%C3%A9-tools-constrain-aspect-ratio-and-slow-speed/&p=1781 Keys do work now but not mac-like. A lack in speed came back. Invisibility while dragging. // beta 18306. In detail: 1. The marque tool now works with keyboard keys and combined keys but one not mac-like: "Shift" constrains aspect ratio. "Option" substracts a selection from an existing selection. "Control" adds a selection to an existing selection. –> "Control" is not mac-like to encrease a selection. In mac I use "command" to add sth to an existing selection – both in applications and system/finder. You simply might want to change "Control" into "Command". (discussed before: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/661-option-drag-to-copyduplicate/&p=2317 2. I experience a lack in speed while dragging, though this delay appeared to be solved in a previous beta. When I drag with the marque tool it takes obviously time to show my drag action on screen. 3. Invisible drag action while dragging. When I drag with the marque tool I do not see any response while dragging. A drag action becomes visible after dragging. If a key is hit while dragging the drag action gets visible only after the mouse/key got released.
