  1. I have hundreds of images of various sizes, mostly very large sizes, that I want to resize to a maximum width of 1920px, at 72DPI, RGB colour mode, JPG format. The height should be variable since the original images have various heights as well and I need to keep the aspect ratio to prevent distortions. (1)is this possible with Affinity Photo? (2)what would be the steps for the resizing to record as a macro. (I tried recording resizing one image and then use that recording for a batch job but AP used also a fixed height on every image resulting in many distorted images)
  2. Dear Community! Shooting RAW files in cropped format (e.g. 4:3 instead of the default 3:2) can be very helpful for framing (knowing that one needs a ration of 4:3 later on anyway). Even though a non-standard aspect ratio (i.e. other than 3:2) has been set, the raw files will always be stored in full resolution of 6000x4000px, ratio 3:2. Opening DNG-files in Adobe Bridge will show the images as expected in the cropped ratio, the way I framed it and the way I want to export my edits as well. (The standard aspect ratio and image resolution, of course, do depend on one's camera model.) --> Question: Is it possible to apply the cropped aspect ratio according to the file's metadata in the "Develop Persona"? When opening Affinity Photo and loading the DNG file into the Develop Persona, the full RAW image of 3:2 with 6000x4000px will be shown, instead of the desired 4:3 with 5328x4000px. So far I was not able to find this option somewhere in the "Crop Tool [C]" or else where! Thanks in advance for any tips/links/hints/help!
  3. I'm working with an iPad Air and Affinity Designer 2, version 2.1.1 and for the longest time I thought that switching off scale with object for the stroke width doesn't work, it did not matter, whether it was toggled on or off, the stroke width would always scale with the object. Now I've experimented a bit and I found that the stroke width always scales for groups, or when you make sure that the object keeps its aspect ratio, either by putting down one finger when resizing by pulling it bigger, or by linking width and height in the transform panel. So, that kind of makes some sense, I guess, because when you lock down the aspect ratio, that then applies to the stroke width as well. In theory it makes sense. But in practice I do work with groups a lot (who doesn't), I do want to keep the aspect ratio when resizing, but sometimes, or, in my case, rather often, I need the stroke width to remain the same throughout resizing. So far, I've been painstakingly going over the lines of the group to manually go back to the original stroke width. Which is not fun and not efficient at all. Is there a work-around? A way to keep the stroke width the same, even for groups? I mean, I can select all objects of the group and then resize by dragging it bigger or smaller without locking in the aspect ratio. That certainly works in some cases, but in others I will need to protect the aspect ratio as well. Any ideas?
  4. When setting up a bitmap fill, you can rotate and scale it, and when replacing the image (especially if you modified the fill image and want to update it in designer) it remembers most of that, except the aspect ratio gets reset. It seems this is done because it sets the aspect ratio to the aspect ratio of the image, but preferably it would instead set the aspect ratio as: newFillAspectRatio = (previousFillAspectRatio / previousImageAspectRatio) * newImageAspectRatio so that it remembers how you stretched the texture.
  5. Hi Community I'm on Publisher 1.10.4.1198. I have a picture frame with multiple adjustment layers and with three more sub-groups in it. The sub-groups contain masks and adjustment layers. Problem: I try to resize the picture frame but not the Image in it. Only the frame. I therefore drag the picture frame on one of the blue bullets with the move tool. The Image gets resized too. It looks like it is attached to the image frame. If I put a new image frame in the document with a image in it, i can resize the frame with the same technic as desribed but the image gets not touched. It stays in the same size. How can I in my above discribed image frame with its sub-groups achieve, that only the frame gets riesized but not the image? Edit: The frame "Properties" is set to "None" - The picture will not be scaled Thanks in advance. Jayenbee
  6. Hi. I've been searching, but I can't find a way in any tutorial, although there must be one: in the export persona, how to give the slices a default aspect ratio (1x1, 4x5, whatever ...), and not having to move the sliders by hand, almost impossible to adjust the size with pixel precision. If anyone knows where that option is, I would appreciate the help.
  7. Hi, I can't find this in a search of the forums, and this should be a simple thing, but I'm not finding it. In PS, you hold down shift when resizing an image (or other layer) manually, and it locks the aspect ratio. How do I do this in Affinity Photo? Thanks!
  8. Hi, I love Affinity Photo. There's only one feature that keeps me from switching completely and opening Photoshop anymore. I'm doing lots of Pixel Art for Games and in Photoshop, you can set the pixel aspect ratio to be other than square. Here you can see that a pixel is actually 2:1, 2 pixels wide and 1 pixel tall. This is the standard multicolor mode for many old computers like the C64, Plus/4 etc. It would be fantastic to have this on your feature list. I can't stand using Photoshop anymore. Help me. Cheers, Esshahn
  9. Hi all! The export persona with the possibility to define slices is already a great feature. I'm looking for the possibility to set the aspect ratio per slice independently of the pixel. One slice in 16:9, another in 9:7 ... and then I want select the size/area with the mouse. I don't find this possibility. Can anyone help me? Thanks Manu
  10. When opening a multi-layered PSD file where one or more layers show as Embedded in AP, the aspect ratio of these layers is distorted, always squished in the horizontal direction. These embedded layers contain a single pixel element, which show up as black regardless of the actual color. This same distortion & color problem is seen in the window that opens when double clicking the embedded layer. PSD files that exhibit this bug opened without error in previous versions of AP. These files also open without error in other apps. • Affinity Photo 1.8.3 • macOS 10.14.6
  11. For Instagram posts, and when in portrait orientation, how can I change from a narrower aspect such as 2:3 to a squarer ratio of 8:10 without compromise on the composition? I know this can be done. There is a video or two on YouTube but it wasn't very clearly explained. Can anybody tell me step by step how to get around this issue?
  12. Hi Everyone, I'm trying to figure out the lock aspect ratio, after some searching I found a topic about the constraints tool, but let me start at the beginning. Working on a design for a client, on a 5 x 5 in Artboard, when it came time to place the design into some mock-ups the issue appeared, the entire design looses it shape, I've used Shift while adjusting the size using the click and drag. But this is a temporary fix, is there one more permanent, as I have a few of these to generate, and move over to publisher, once my design reaches past a certain size it just looks like a splotch on the Artboard. Across the Suite, it never keeps the aspect ratio, how can this be resolved. I tried the constraints tool, but that also didn't help.
  13. Hello I moved my workflow at home and now I strangle to find the option to keep the object's aspect ratio when I resize it from the corner. In the office it keep the aspect ration when I resize it but in home I can't figure out what other to do than press shift while resizing (no big deal sure but I love the freedom to work only with the mouse in some operations). Where is the option? Thanks!
  14. Hi folks. First post from me, a long-time Photoshop/Lightroom user making the transition. I've had AP for a couple of weeks and been leaning a lot. It's an impressive product. I'm hoping the community can help me with information about how to perform a seemingly simple task. I have looked for answers here and elsewhere to no avail. Here we go: I give clients screen-res images at a standard height or width. I have Lightroom set up with 2 different export presets. Landscape orientation images are always exported at 1920 px across. Portrait orientation images are always exported at 1080 px high. Regardless of what aspect ration I choose to crop, LR is able to calculate the required variable dimension opposite the fixed dimension. How can I do similar in AP? I tried to set up a macro, however I can't define just one aspect in pixels and leave the other aspect value blank. I frequently crop at different aspect ratios based on how the image "feels". This means that I'd have to create a different macro for each aspect ratio in AP. Hopefully somebody can tell me how to do this. Thanks, Frank
  15. Hello, everybody again. I have a problem trying to crop a photo with the exact aspect ratio that Instagram requests for its publications. Instagram asks for the following ratios, 1:1, 4:5 or 1.91:1 The first two I accept without problems, my problem is when I want to crop an image with the horizontal aspect ratio 1.91:1 I can not place decimals. I tried to do a mathematical operation to make it into Pixels and I got the following measure 1080x565,45 px with the maximum width that Instagram asks for. But in Pixels I can't place decimals either, it's a bug or I can't really set this kind of measurements. Thank you very much if you can help me.
  16. Hi, i am searching for any option to reset any squeezed or transformed picture to its original aspect ratio and to scale pictures numeric in %. while the rotation can be set to zero in the Transform Studio there is nothing like "Reset X/Y to 100%". The four different scale-options in the Pictureframe Properties don´t reset to the original aspect ratio of the file once the content is distorted. When working with files like floor plans, it is necessary to make exact changes like: 25% back to 75% etc. there should be deninitly x% and y% in the Transform Studio. I would like to have the option "Reset X/Y to 100%" at the image properties or some easy way to reset distorted images with a click thanks!
  17. Hello, if I take photos with my camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC G81) with aspect ratio 16:9 and open them with preview on my Mac everything is fine and I see them in 4592 × 2584 pixels. But if I open them in Affinity Photo my photos are shown in 4608 x 3464 pixels. Do anyone have an idea how Affinity can show my photos with correct aspect ratio? Thanks and best regards Jonas
  18. The crop tool is difficult to use. I would like it to retain the sizes last entered and be able to constrain movement to one dimension (like photoshop shift move). Say I have an image in 3:2 aspect and I want to crop it to 16:9 for HD video. So I can enter 1920 hit tab and then 1080 and there my crop is, taking the full width of the image and cropping equal amounts of the top and bottom off. Great. Now I want to move it vertically to retain desired composition. If I drag it vertically, there's no way to stop the crop region from drifting off the image to the left or right which will leave a strip of background down one side or the other. So I have to reduce the crop size to be sure I don't get any unwanted background pixels. It seems the crop tool has no awareness of the image boundaries. Next I move to the next image and have to begin from the top entering the dimensions in the aspect fields. It would be better to emulate photoshop and have the aspect retained in the crop tool until it is cleared or changed. The current usage is clumsy enough to force me back to Photoshop for cropping website header images or video posters etc.
  19. Hi, I would like to reconstruct a process of Photoshop and can not find the right way. My intention is to select a section from a picture in the aspect ratio of 1.35:1, to cut this out and to export the section as a jpg for web application. I already have the problem that I can save the said aspect ratio, but can't select it afterwards. Could someone please briefly describe the procedure? And sorry for not being an english native speaker Thanks Sven
  20. Hello everybody I have a question concerning the export persona: I often need to export pictures for screen presentations which means a 16:9 aspect ratio. Is there any way to restrict the slices tool to a certain aspect ratio the way the crop tool does? It seems like an obvious feature to me, but I cannot find out how to do this. Thanks Enno
  21. Hi, I am using anamorphic lenses to take photographs and I need to change the size of the image in percentage, that is, instead of units of measurement (cm, pixels, etc.) it would be nice to put the % that will be magnified. In my case it is 133% horizontal and 100% vertical (1.33x anamorphic lens) I think it's not a difficult feature to implement. Cheers. David
  22. Hi. I'm using affinity designer 1.5.3.69 I found this behavior quite disturbing (I'm not sure if that's the correct word) When you resize/ scale single shape/ selection of shapes using corner handle, the default scaling method is "free scaling" instead of aspect ratio/ constraint proportion. But if you resize a group of items, or text, or image, the default resizing method is "constraint proportion/ aspect ratio". Thanks.
  23. I have a lot of photos form a shooting. I am now editing them and finally want to export sections (details) of the images for use in a webshop and on facebook. So I need to export a square image, and one in the h:w ratio that facebook requires. Obviously, I want to define the location and size of the slices for each photo individually (because I need to decide on the detail I want to show), but all the slices should have the same aspect ratio (and export pixel size) for all photos. I thought the export persona is great for this, but it appears quite clumsy to 1) create a slice in exactly 476x714px, then 2) scale the slice frame to fit my desired detail, then to 3) define the export width as actually 714w so that the exported image results as 476x714px. I thought there must be smarter way to do this for each photo. Can't I create some kind of template that has a 476 : 714 aspect ration slice associated with a 714w export? I noticed a menu called "create template for export settings" (translated from german), but it is grayed out. How would you tackle this?
  24. I have searched this site and read guide in app. I cannot get the lock aspect ratio to work. When I select the lock icon in Transform Studio the shape still free transforms (aspect ratio is not locked). I cannot select "constrain" in the shape menu. Touching screen with finger while dragging shape with pencil does not lock aspect ratio either. I am using an iPad Pro 1 with Apple Pencil, (IOS 10.3.3, Affinity version 1.6.4). Please help
  25. Hi there, I've set "do not constrain by default" for the move tool / scaling in my preferences. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/upload-media/monthly_09_2016/post-1198-0-66436200-1473232311.png Unfortunately this has no influence to the "place file" function. Is this a bug? Or do I need a feature request for it? If so: I hope it is possible to have an option in preferences for ignoring aspect ratio for placing a file too. :) Cheers, Stefan.
