  1. designer version: 1.8.703 As the title says, creating new artboards moves the position of slices that are contained in other artboards It happens when you use the slice tool (Watch attached video for replication) 2020-11-23_21-31-20.mkv untitled.afdesign
  2. Hello team, I leave you this idea: it would be good that when you select an artboard with just press the enter key you can rename it as it happens with the mac operating system. Have a happy day.
  3. Im laying out a photo book using Designer. There are potentially 100 pages, Is there a way to re-arrange the placement of art boards into a grid matrix instead of the endless left to right scroll? I find the grid layout to be a lot easier to work with and visualize the final product. Can artboards be rearranged? When working on a project like this sometimes I want to swap page 10 with page 35 for example, Is there a way to drag and drop to rearrange the artboard order? Guides, setting up guides that are the same for every artboard is a bit daunting with the current method, I have to select the precise location for every artboard. Is there a way to place guides at the same locations on all my artboards? Thanks for the help or consideration of adding these features to the artboard functionality.
  4. Hi all, I can't move on with this and also haven't found any relevant topic on the forum so I'm trying my luck in this topic. As I'm beginner it might be something easy and stupid but it took me some time and I haven't found any solution. I have a project (catalogue) with about 140 artboards/pages and I need to rearrange pages and insert some new pages as well, for example add new artboard between pages 7 and 8 etc. It doesn't work if I do it manually by moving artboards nor using the right menu or other ways. If I do export nothing changes. Also If I delete some artboard, there is still a blank space after all. So my question is simple: How can I change/rearrange pages easily? Can I easily move artboard from the end of the document somewhere else? I hope this explanation is enough for you. Thanks guys Martin
  5. Would be great if the team at Affinity would add a feature that enables us to sort out artboards like HOW MANY IN A ROW or a COLUMN. Also if an artboard is Numbered at the end it would be good for it automatically increment numbers when artboard duplicates are created.
  6. Hey, I have a issue that was in the past DESIGNER and still in the new update. I have a document i always reuse. 2 art boards. One is a wide format for social media , the other square. I change the content and also rename the art boards for output , so they have the correct name. When i rename the art board and switch to slice module, the art boards have the old name before i rename them. So I have to rename them twice. Anyway to get this fixed? Thanks Gary

  8. Affinity Designer Version 1.7.1.1 iPad Pro 12,9 inch first generation, iOS 12.3.1 I added screen recordings for clarity. Problem 1: Margin and bleed not working for artboards Margins and bleed work perfect for documents that do not use artboards, but when I convert it to an artboard using "Insert Artboard" it stops working. Same goes for creating a document and enabling the option "Create Artboard". Bleed still shows, but changing the values for Left, Right, Top or Bottom doesn't change the bleed. When opening the menu again the values are back to what they were before using "Insert Artboard". Margins also don't work, it goes back to Left 0.0 Right 0.0 Top 0.0 and Bottom 0.0. Trying to change this makes it immediately jump back to 0.0. margin_bleed_artboard.MP4 Problem 2: "Check Spelling While Typing" option is always on when loading any document check_spelling_while_typing.MP4 Problem 3: Limited selection of presets for inserting artboards in an open document It looks like the artboard presets of the category "Device". However, the bottom four options are also missing: Kindle Fire HD 7, Kindle Fire HD 8.9, Galaxy S5 and Surface Pro 2. There is an option missing for selecting the category like when creating a new document. It seems that this simply has been overlooked. insert_artboard.MP4
  9. Automatic renaming of layers and artboards When copying artboards several times, they are added with the same name. Often this ends up with many artboards with the name "Artboard1". Artboard names are for example important when exporting, so they should have unique names I need an option which, after selecting layers or artboards, would allow me to give them a name with consecutive numbers like CustomName 01 CustomName 02 CustomName 03 ... It is very uncomfortable and time consuming to manually edit this for 30 artboards.
  10. How can i remove the gray border on all artboards Are the following options available? - enable / disable border - change color Thanks BR George
  11. I have recently completed the Udemy course "Affinity Designer, Solid Foundations" by Simon Foster. Thoroughly enjoyed it (17.5 hours of video!). In one section, Simon used the scenario of proposing a presentation to a client using artboards, symbols, Simon has 30 years experience as a professional designer, and it shows. The course starts with basics, but leads on to more advanced workflows The section on Presentations works well so far as it goes. But if you map the ideas on to PowerPoint, then it misses a few tricks which are nothing to do with Affinity Designer. So could it be developed? And if so, would it then be a useful tool for creating PowerPoint presentations? The presentation below sets out this opportunity, which I am pleased to say I have discussed with Simon, though the words used are entirely mine. Sample artboards can be downloaded - see notes below video. It is more of an exploration than a tutorial. (There are notes with timings for the topics covered after the You Tube posting. Some relate to Affinity features that gave a few problems)
  12. Hello! I find it very difficult to see which layer I selected with all artboards already "highlighted"... Is there a way to turn off automatic highlighting of artboards? Or augment the contrast between artboards and selected layers? Thanks!
  13. How to save artboards to independent files in several clicks instead of many ...?! Thanks!
  14. If I create two artboards A and B and add artboard column guides to B, those guides do not show up when I drag in an object from artboard A to B until I deselect the dragged object and then reselect it. This makes placing the object accurately more difficult and is an unnecessary step that you have to repeat every time you drag in objects, which is a lot. Ideally, the guides should show up immediately when you drag an object into the artboard's space. MacOS 10.11.6, Mac Pro 3.1, Cintiq 21"UX, Affinity Designer 1.8.3 If there's a setting for this (I can't see a reason why there would be, but I've been wrong before), I will be very greatful for pointers. 15. I'm using the latest version of both Photo and Designer and didn't have this problem before updating to the latest version 1.8.2.620. The bug happens in all documents, both newly created and older projects opened up in this version. I'm on the latest update of Windows 10 and have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070. Here's how to create the bug (It requires both Designer and Photo): Start a new project in Designer Create at least one Artboard (This is essential) Create a few objects (or import a few images) and make them overlap (may not be necessary to overlap them, but do this to be sure) Select File->Edit in Photo... from the menu In Photo select one of the layers and apply the Live Filter Denoise Most filters don't work, but a few do. I was specific above just to make sure to have one that doesn't in my description. RESULT: Now some layers completely disappear and others partly show (there's a patterns but it would be a waste for me to explain). Deactivating / activating the filter clearly shows that the filter isn't doing what it's suppose to do. Lastly to answer if this worked before: Yes. I had no problems with this before the latest update. The gif below show an example how it behaves. Sorry for the crappy quality, but it shows clearly what happens. I also included the Affinity-file for this example with the post. bug example (activate and deactivate the filter).afphoto
  16. Hello Guys, theres any way to have grids only visible in the artboards? It works perfect work with canvas... see the pictures below
  17. I know that when an AD file that has artboards is first opened in APu there is an option to convert the artboards to pages, but is there any way to do that after it has been opened in APu & has artboards that have not been converted to pages? I ask this because I have been playing around with template (*.aftemplate) files. When I create a new document in APu from a template created in AD & it has artboards, there is no option that I can find to convert its artboards to pages, neither at the time of creation nor afterwards. For example, try opening Artboards & symbols.aftemplate in APu. It is a test file that has 3 artboards (& symbols but that doesn't seem to matter). It opens fine in APu but it would be nice if there was an option to convert its artboards to pages without resorting to tricks like changing the file extension or whatever.
  18. Since creating artboards in version 1.8, the name of the artboard no longer appears above it in the canvas area. How can I get that back? Thanks!
  19. I am in a document and used the rectangle tool to make a new second artboard but it is coming out Transparent. How do I change the color of an artboard once I am already inside a document? I also tried using the drag a rectangle method but still my first artboard is white and the second one is showing transparent?????? is this a bug in my app???? thank u! P.S. I am super new to Affinity so maybe this question is obvious but I cant find it
  20. Just a little thing really but - currently, as soon as artboards are cloned they appear in the layers panel under the same name, and it's difficult to know which is which without clicking around the place. Of course they will eventually get proper names, but it would be lovely if they just named themselves Artboard 1, Artboard 2 etc when cloned. That is all.
  21. Hi, I just learned from one of the video tutorials, that an artboard can have a color, which is a nice thing to have. I tried it and realized, that it seems, that the color does not extends into the bleed, when exporting the document. Is that so or do I miss a setting? Thanks Sebastian
  22. I'm trying to create a blur gradient, so I: Duplicated a rasterised image Added ±65% gaussian blur to the top image Tried to use the fill tool to create a transparency gradient of the top image Every time I select the pixel image and pull the fill tool across it, the program hangs solid. I've tried: Restarting Affinity Restarting the laptop Not using the gaussian blur Changing the image Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can get around it? p.s. I'm not sure if this is the best way to achieve the affect I'm looking for, so if anyone has any alternative suggestions I'm all ears p.p.s. The spinning beachball of death does its thing pretty much as soon as my mouse stops on the right-hand side of the image. affinity fill tool issue.mp4

  24. Hi all! I’ll cut to the chase. I make customisable kid’s books - currently with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. Right now, the child’s character is an Illustrator file placed at multiple points throughout an InDesign document (the book) and I go through and change layer visibility (annoyingly I have to do this manually on each page) depending on the visual options selected. Finding and replacing text is easy. I’ve been trialling Designer and the Publisher beta and am really impressed, but I have a question for those more in the know: Is there a quick way to choose which layers in an imported linked file into Publisher are on / off? So far I’ve been clicking to edit the linked file from within Publisher but if, for example, I wanted to switch on a particular hair style and colour layer, I’d have to do this for each artboard, defeating the object of saving time. Throughout the book, the character might change clothes so I’ve used artboards to different but was hoping common layers like skin, hair, eyes etc. could be shared and quickly switched on / off for everything quickly. It looks like artboards in Designer are like a traditional group and a Designer file with multiple artboards doesn’t share layers. Is there any way to change this or another way of doing things / thinking about this? My initial thinking / solution: Tweak my Designer file so it has an artboard for all common features needed on each page and other artboards for other layers that only need to be visible on certain pages? This way, I could place a Designer file a few times in the same location in Publisher and have different layers on / off overlaid on each other. Seems a bit of a clunky workaround though. Publisher question (sorry, wrong forum but related to this): when you import multiple instances of a Designer file and want to be able to play with its layer visibilities throughout, can you set some layer overrides in some instances of an imported file and not others? Thanks so much in advance (and sorry for the long post! Just really like Affinity and want to change over!).
  25. Just created my first project in Affinity Designer for iPad, and am having trouble with the consistency in the file size for my exported .eps files. Notes: The original ("Poster Borders to Export.afdesign" - see attached) file was created from scratch in AFDesigner, and to the best of my knowledge, is entirely vector, so the exported EPS files should be quite small. The file is comprised of three artboards, all the same dimensions (48" x 36" - most of the drawing is white space, as the project required building only a 12" vertical band on the left of each poster ). When I go to export each artboard as an EPS, Artboard 1 exports at around 100k (this is what I would expect), Artboard 2 exports around 5.5 MB, and Artboard 3 at around 25MB! Can anyone shed some light on why they are exporting at such wildly divergent sizes? I've attached the original .afdesign file and screenshots of the three EPS export screens. Thank you!
