  1. Strange transparency rendering behaviour when adding transparency to individual lines created with arrowheads. This has probably been a forever thing, but have just bumped into it again when fading parts of a flow build. If you create a single line with an arrowhead (curve layer) and change the layer transparency, designer renders the line and arrowhead as individual objects, which given that they are overlayed to prevent gapping creates a more dense area where the line meets the arrowhead. Work around is to group the object… which seems like an odd thing to need to do for a curve line that should behave as a single object. I can't think of an application where I would want/expect the current standard behaviour.
  2. Hey everyone, is this behaviour correct? I noticed that it has always been this way in all versions, which I find a bit odd: On a path with arrowheads, if you change the transparency, they are treated as a separate object and you can see the underlying path under the arrow. I would have expected the path not to be seen under the arrowhead and the element to be treated as a whole. You can easily solve this problem by simply grouping the path first, but in my opinion this is an unnecessary step, since the arrowheads and their path are already considered »one element« in one way or another. Thoughts? See my clip for a demo. Arrowhead_Path_Transparency.mp4 Greetings Dennis
  3. Hi everyone, Can someone please give me a quick tutorial on how to create a single headed arrow shape in Affinity Designer for iPad? (not a line with an arrow at its end, but an arrow shape with a border as shown in the attached picture) I haven‘t been able to find a solution to this. (Only for the desktop version of AD) Much apprechiated!
  4. I found interesting thing with expanding stroke with arrowheads. If I trying to expand stroke of unclosed path with center alignment - everything is okay, but when I using inside or outside stroke alignment, shape is losing arrowheads. It's a problem because unclosed path with different stroke alignment looks same whatever is it center or inside/outside. This problem same for both Designer versions PC or iPad.
  5. In the shape tool, don't have a pointer like a single direction arrow, only a two side arrow found. I've to trim the other end to create a single direction arrow.
  6. I need arrowheads for paths (not as a area) that are exactly as wide as the line width. Unfortunately this can't be set (yet) either (see screenshot), corners stick out at the sides. It would be especially nice if I could create my own arrowheads, like in Illustrator.
  7. I have a round cap style arrow (red) that I want to terminate at exactly the end of the line, so that it lines up properly with the heads of other arrows (blue), as you see below: However, this is not the default behavior of Affinity, which actually does this: Of course, you can manually offset, in this case moving the rear of the arrow 4 pixels up. That will make it look like this: But this is not a good solution, since this 4-pixel offset will not be preserved when the arrow (or a symbol it is part of) is transformed. The way I got the first image was quite hacky and doesn't really work properly: it was to choose an arrow head ("barbed") and shrink it to 33.33% so that it falls within the stroke itself and you can't see it. This for some reason changes the behavior of Affinity so that it starts the rounded cap at exactly the endpoint. Unfortunately, this this hacky solution doesn't actually work in important cases. For example, here the the barb is revealed as soon as you use dashing on the red line (the dashing doesn't show up here as it is too coarse): I can't think of any other way of getting the right behavior here... The obviously missing feature seems to be a fourth kind of cap, a "round flush cap" (the "flush" option is already available for square caps, so it's odd that it isn't available for round caps). I've mocked it up here, it's the second one from the left, the meaning should be pretty clear: An alternate missing feature that would accomplish the same thing is simply a "rounded cap" arrowhead that does nothing more than appear as a filled circle with exactly the same width as the stroke. Unfortunately you cannot use the existing filled circle arrowheads to do this properly, since when you set the filled circle arrowhead to 33.33%, which makes it match the stroke width, the three different kinds of stroke all end at slightly the wrong points (from left to right we have square cap, rounded cap, and flush square cap):
  8. See attached .afdesign file. Each icon on the canvas is 38 x 28 px. Selecting pano1 and exporting it via "File > Export..." , either as a PNG or a JPG, generates an image 59 x 43 px. Now do the same with pano2, which is a copy of pano1 but without arrowhead. Designer in this case generates an image 39 x 29 px. Still 1px too large, but pretty close. The only way to get the correct size after exporting is to make the box size much larger but to leave the arrows at their original size - which is precisely what I don't need. It always happens so it's reproducible. I am using the latest MacOS version and the latest Designer version. nav_4.afdesign
  9. This one should be easy, but I cannot find it with the current update nor here in the forum. For UML diagrams, you need diamond (filled and empty) arrowheads.
  10. Wow! Affinity Designer looks very good from the git-go. It's fast, well organized and pleasant to use. The text handling has some excellent features already. Scrolling through the font menu and watching selected text change live, quite a treat. The main addition it needs for me to replace AI is arrowheads. I don't need a lot of useless style options such as Adobe offers, just filled triangles that have some adjustment options. • placeable on beziers as well as straight lines • auto scale to line thickness • user adjustable scale acting on default size (+% and -%, i.e.) • user adjustable head angle (again, maybe relative to default) And maybe, if not too much trouble: • an option to have arrowhead extend line OR have the line shorten to place the arrow tip at the end of the original segment. Thanks for listening, Byrne [edit] P.S. Another discussion of arrowheads suggests ability to round corners. Not strictly necessary for me but nice. Acts on all three corners, maybe adjustable as a proportion of the arrowhead's size.
  11. I have arrowheads - same size (250%), but solid version is significantly larger! It is correct? Inside type (Place arrow within the line), is draw correct (see previous picture). But Center type (Place arrow at the end of the line) is correct only for solid version. Standard version (unsolid :-) is Outside type. Wouldn't it be better to allow all three placement types (Inside line, Center end, Outside line)? Selecting all lines (Move Tool) with different types of arrowheads (Inside and Center) will cause everyone to change to Inside type. Unexpected, and very unpleasant.
  12. Hey guys, I new to Affinity Designer and I wanted to make folding line for my origami ebook folding instruction, but after draw the line I don't see the arrow head available, how to make it? I googled it, but some post mentioned that this feature not available yet? how come? for such a pro app still not available? Please help and reply ASAP!
  13. I think when we get an arrowhead, we will also get a pure vector brush engine, unlike the one existing now that is an image stretched to follow a path. The reason for this is that they take a long, long time to implement. It is very possible that they are also writing a code for pure vector brush engine since it is more beneficial in the long run, rather than making a standalone house, they build an apartment.
  14. Found this neat trick playing with the pressure setting of a stroke... Can also be used for tails... Wouldn't use it for long paths though, it gets tricky to edit the shapes as it's mapped onto a narrow palette. Still fun for signage and as a design element, not technical illustration....
  15. Hey guys, I want to draw a double circle arrow for my origami tutorial ebook, I used ronniemcbride method to create the arrow head, then I create a circle and convert it to curve and cut it into half and duplicate it to become the double arrow circle, like below, but the arrow head is crooked, how do I make perfect double circle arrow? Left: arrowhead brush created by me Right: arrowhead brush created by ronniemcbride
  16. From my few days of working in AD I believe that one can only making arrowheads in AD by creating a separate graphic and attaching it on to a shaft. The arrowhead can thus be manipulated as a separate part of a group. Is that correct or does AD have an "arrowhead maker" that I have not found yet? I should add that I imported at lot of my Illustrator work. Arrowheads I made in Illustrator come out beautifully in AD. Hats off to you at AD who thought of all of us with tons of previous work in Illustrator. This makes AD more fabulous than ever!
