  1. I am using Apple Photos for importing images and library, always jpg/raw-import. When I switch to edit the photo in RAW and choose to edit with Affinity from within Photos the images appear split in 2 or 4 in Affinity, and are impossible to edit/develop. Jpg editing works. Examples attached. Currently Affinity is not possible to use for RAW develop from Apple Photos. What to do? BR
  2. Does anyone know of any issues being reported when using Affinity Photo's Extensions within Apple Photos? I've just started to use Affinity within Photos for quick edits, and have found a couple of issues that make it unreliable: Affinity Retouch: Loupe slider controls do not appear immediately and start as a purple drop down box. the sliders ultimately appear but disappear most times. The Loupe often does not appear and instead the mouse pointer remains, (functioning as the selected tool, i.e. dodge or burn). The Loupe can be forced to appear by zooming in and out, but often disappears as soon as the mouse is moved to click on a spot. Affinity Develop: Intermittently opens with a black screen displaying the Affinity logo, and will not display the current photo. Equipment: Computer: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), 16GB RAM, Solid state drive. OS: macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6 Photos: Version 3.0 (3291.13.210) Affinity: Ver 1.6.7 No Other Apps running. MacBook passes all tests. No other known issues with the MacBook
  3. How/where/what format does AP save edited RAW images from Apple Photos database? This includes both photos editing as an extension and using the Image > Edit with command. My concerns are the ever-increasing size of my local Apple Photos database and the syncing to other devices in the Cloud, and of course the Cloud size requirements. Based on this information I hope to calculate my photo storage growth needs then determine if it can be sustained "as is" or if I'll need to find another solution. Thanks

    Affinityphoto and Photos App

Hi, I was very happy to see the direct communication between Apple Photos and Affinity, but today I was a bit confused by an error message of an 16 MB changes limit which I don't understand and don't really know what the consequences are. Please see screenshot! Why is this and what does it really mean? Can it be that I cannot even reframe and turn the photo a bit in Affinity? What would the communication be of use then?
  5. hello all, I am using Apple photo to store the library of my photos. Apple Photo is my starting point from where I open the raw file and the developing of this file is done in Affinity photo. After developing and further editing the raw file in Affinity Photo I am saving back towards Apple Photos. However, after doing this the raw file is no longer available or accessible in Apple Photo. What I am doing wrong as I would also like to keep the original raw file in Apple Photos? regards, Yves
  6. I have started by using affinity free trial as extensions to Apple Photos running under High Sierra. After purchasing Affinity Photo, I had to delete the free trial application. But all extensions appears in double in Apple Photos (probably once for the free trial version, that exists no more on my MacBook Air, and once for the official paid version of Affinity). How can I remove from the Apple Photo display the extensions that are linked to the free trial version of Affinity ? It is not a blocking issue but it is very annoying to have these double entries... I have tried to capture a screen shot, but Apple Capture won't take a picture of the Apple Photos screen WITH the extension call activated :-( Thanks in advance for the assistance ! Dominique
  7. I've done some controlled experiments and had another person verify this is repeatable. Steps to produce the problem: Take photo with iPhone running iOS 11 (tested with iPhone 7 and iPhone X). Photo will be in HEIF/HEIC format Export image from Apple Photos on the Mac as an 8-bit TIFF Open 8-bit TIFF in Affinity Photo 1.5 or 1.6 (tested both) - image looks fine Export the same image form Apple Photos as a 16-bit TIFF Open 16-bit TIFF in Affinity Photo 1.5 or 1.6 and the right 10% of the image will be sort of a grey, metal-looking digital mess The same 16-bit TIFF looks fine in quick look and in Macphun's Aurora HDR 2018 Rather than clog up the system with giant files here's the 8 and 16-bit versions of the same photo in Dropbox so you can see for yourself: 8-bit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nityjdgibkfc9td/boogs 8-bit.tiff?dl=0 16-bit with mess on the right: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0t2kv4x2o7t0ft5/boogs16-bit.tiff?dl=0
  8. Good morning, after I did some tests with Affinity Photo on my iMac I decided to wait for the new iPad Version. Bought now Affinity Photo for iPad and a new 12,9" iPad Pro :-) However, I´m missing the Support to edit Photos from within the Apple Photos App using the Extension function. Also when using Affinity Photos and opening photos from Apples Photos (iCloud) from the App there is only a very small PopUp to open a photo. Hopefully there will be a better / bigger overview in the future. I´m handling all my photos with Apples Photo App (>40k photos) and it will be tricky to find a photo Please integreate the function to "overwrite" an already existing photo with the edited one keeping the possibility to reset changes later on. This was one of the most interesting functions for me using Affinity Photo on my iMac as I don´t need to Keep duplicates (edited and non edited Versions) Hope I could make clear what I´m missing and looking forward for your comments and hopefully improvements with the next update. Thx., Michael
  9. This is a repost - I posted earlier in bugs, but this forum seems more appropriate... How to make "Round-trip" edits from Apple Photos to Affinity Photo and back again: In AP, open the desired Apple Photos image via the media browser (scroll down left hand side bar in "open..." dialogue until you see the Photos "Camera" icon, then select that, then navigate to your image for editing) Note 1: if you double click here to select a photo for editing, it will not open in AP! - this may be a bug. But if you single-click (select) the desired photo then click the "open..." button, it will open in AP, ready for editing. Edit away in AP. When done editing, to save back into Apple Photos, just hit "Save...". The photo will be saved in its original file type on top of (overwriting) the original in the Apple Photos Library. You may also want to save a copy in Affinity Photo format to your desktop, just for safety. BUT! Apple Photos will not yet know the photo has been edited, and will display a proxy image of the unedited original. Don't despair. To quickly rectify this, find and select the image within Apple Photos that you just edited in Affinity, now click the "Edit..." button. Suddenly your Affinity edits will appear, and you can now cancel out of the edit mode in Apple Photos. Ta Da. There is the edited image in Apple Photos. Note 2: If you try to "Save As..." from Affinity then you cannot navigate to the media browser. So you must "Save...". Note 3: You may want to duplicate your photo first in Apple Photos before editing in Affinity, in case you want to save the original. Not sure if this will always work as sometime duplicates are only proxies of the original in Apple Photos. Note 4: Affinity lets you "Save Editing History" but haven't tested if this works via the round trip method above. You're welcome.
  10. Over the last couple of days I have been trying out the latest version of Quark that I have been really enjoying using (2017 is the only version I have used.) To me it seems like this is going to be a very hard area for Serif to compete in given that there are two products that many are happy with that have been advancing since the 1980s (or at least there are people that are happy with one of those two options.) Even if Publisher was out today it would still have a massive challenge in competing with these two options especially at Quark's new low $400 entry price (and yes that is low for a product of that level.) To me it seems like Lightroom like products would be so much easier to compete with due to the fact that it is a field that is only about ten years old and still has a lot of room to grow. I still have several major grips with LR and also the way that Affinity Photo interacts with catalog software like Apple Photos. It just seems like the more logical step to me. I think the fact that LR is the one app that hasn't not yet been subscription only shows that Adobe is aware that customers could easily move off this product to a competitor more easily then many other more well established products.
  11. I am not sure if this should be considered a bug, undesirable behavior, or what, but when a item in an Apple Photos or other Apple Library is opened using the Media Browser or via Sidebar Media > Photos, the "Reveal in Finder" menu item exposes the Photos Library "master" image file (in the Photos Library.photoslibrary/resources/media/master/xx/yy/ folder). According to Apple, users should not alter anything directly in one of its "master" library folders because that can corrupt the library, potentially causing data loss. It is for this reason that in Photos, the 'show file in folder' File menu item is greyed out for items stored in the library, available only for "referenced" items that are stored outside the library folder. So I think AD/AP should do the same thing, or failing that at least show a warning. A related (& potentially more serious) issue, since Affinity sets the default target folder for Open or Save As (or for new documents for Save) dialogs to the one the last file was opened from, for files opened via the Media Browser or sidebar, that master subfolder becomes the default for those operations, even if the file opened from the media/master is just closed without saving it. This makes it much more likely that users will do something that corrupts the library by accident, so some way of excluding library folders from the default targets should be implemented.
  12. Hello There are pictures that recorded jpeg and raw at the same time in Apple Photos. Do not you know how to open Apple Photos raw files from Affinity Photo? Thank you.
  13. Running Affinity Photo 1.5.1 on macOS Sierra 10.12.3. I like to use the Apple Photos extension Edit in Affinity Photo Photo. Up until now my workflow was to edit in Affinity Photo, save, close, go back to Apple Photos and save again. Lately (and constantly) if I try to save in Affinity Photo I get an error (attatched) saying failed to save document. It is trying to save in ~/Library/Group Containers. After I select OK not he error, Affinity Photo hangs indefinitely until I force quit and I lose all my work. It's pretty consistent now so I sure hope you can solve this one. I'm especially concerned because the Affinity Photo tutorial that's poised to be released this week on ScreenCasts Online shows this exact process (back when it worked). 14. Minimum requirements: Affinity Photo 1.4 and Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11.1) To enhance the photo editing capabilities of your Apple Photos application, Affinity Photo makes available a series of ready-to-go extensions: · Develop: for processing raw images · Haze Removal: for removal of misting · Liquify: for image warping · Miniature: for depth of field effects · Monochrome: for black and white effects · Retouch: for traditional brush tools, red eye removal, inpainting, and sharpening Installing Affinity Photo makes the extensions appear in Photos, which can be selectively disabled if needed. As good practice, we do recommend launching Affinity Photo before using Apple Photos. To find out more, watch the Extensions for Apple Photos VideoTutorial. Best wishes Affinity documentation
  15. Hello, By executing the following steps: Import an Adobe RGB jpeg picture in Apple Photos, Edit the photo through the Affinity Photo extension "Edit in Affinity Photo" AP does not identify the color profile and it assigns the default one. If I simply open the picture with AP, the color profile it's managed correctly. Does Apple Photos purge the color profile data? Is there any other way to edit the file directly without using the "External Editors" extension? Thank you
  16. Today I went to Apple Photo to try to edit a photo I had been working on in Affinity but when it opened up all my changes were gone. Then the photo changed to a different photo in Apple Photo. In other words the same photo is showing up Apple Photo twice and one photo disappeared almost entirely. I would go to Time Machine to restore that old version of photo that somehow got messed up. But I don't know how to do that. I can't find that option in Apple Photos. Please help!
  17. Usually all my Affinity changes show up in Apple Photos but when I go to make further edits in Affinity all the changes get lost. Is this happening to anyone else? Is this a bug? It almost seems like I should just edit all my photos from the Finder since it doesn't look like the Apple Photo to Affinity Photo "edit in" feature is working. Frustrating. The layers usually get flattened when exiting from Affinity but does that mean I can't go back and keep the look of the edits I just did? That doesn't make sense to me.
  18. Hi, there! I'm curious to know if there is a way to customize how Affinity Photo shares to Apple Photos. Under the option, Share, in the File menu, you can choose to Add to Photos. The default will export the edited version of the image as JPEG with all metadata stripped. I would like to export as PNG with metadata included, without the added step of exporting out of Affinity and then importing into Photos.

    Editing in Apple Photos

I am getting an error when attempting to develop a photo in Apple Photos. "Unable to edit with Affinity Develope. An unexpected error occurred." The changes do seem to take effect though. EDIT: I just updated the software today.
  20. Hey, Another one from Affinity TV. This we take a look at how you can use a new extension which enables you to store your pictures inside of Apple Photos edit in Affinity Photo and have those changes automatically save back for you. Something we haven't been able to do since iPhoto got replaced with Photos. So, excited about this one because of that. We also take a look at how you can use the Smart Albums inside the app to organise your pictures. Using Apple Photos with Affinity Photo Tutorial Enjoy, Allan
  21. I have Affinity Photo 1.4.1 and have problem to use extensions in Apple Photos. Affinity Photos works fine as a standalone applications. I can open the extension. But when I am trying to do something, I can just click on one control and then I am stuck whit that control and its first results. I can’t use another control and I can’t change the result. And then to leave the extension, I have to change to Finder or another program and then back to Photos before I can leave the extension. I have an iMac with the Intel Core i7, El Capitan 10.11.3 and Photos 1.3.
  22. With Affinity Photo 1.4 we get some plugins for Apple Photos: Develop, Haze Removal, Liquify, Miniature, Monochrome and Retouch. What about extending the ability of read Apple Photos plugins and not only Photoshop plugins? I sometime use DxO OpticsPro for Photos for quick noise removal and lens correction and I’d like to use it in Affinity Photo too.
  23. What tools are accessible through the Photos Develop extension? I watched the extensions video, but Develop wasn't demonstrated, nor are any of the screenshots on the Affinity site legible enough to make this out. How about posting a screenshot of the adjustment pane for each of the extensions? That would be very helpful.
  24. When I do burst mode photo with my iPhone, this is visible as stack of pictures in Apple Photos. Could you implement an extension that allows using this Apple Photo stack directly with the Affinity Stacking feature? All stacking features would then be perfectly usable via Affinity Photo Extension. Best regards BlauerClaus
