  1. Well people, I have done it. I've cancelled my Adobe CC subscription. Here's the proof. Anyone else packed it in with them? (It's a bit off topic, but I can't find a general/misc category for posting my own news.)
  2. I recently purchased these two applications because I'm looking into university courses to do with graphic design etc. I'd like to pursue a career in this field. Sadly I'm rather new to all this. I've looked at the tutorials that Affinity give you for these two applications via their website and via their apps, both the written and video format. However I don't find them to be that helpful and because of that I was curious if there is anywhere online that can provide me with more in-depth tutorials? If there isn't, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop are the most popular applications that are similar to Affinity Designer & Photo but are they similar enough to where I could watch tutorials for Illustrator & Photoshop then use what I learnt from that and put it into practice in Affinity Designer & Photo? Also, I know Affinity provide coffee table style books for these applications (no PDF versions available) but they would cost around £80 for the set and right now I can't see the justification for it, at least for me, unless the books really are the best option for tutorials. Keep in mind though that I'm using a 12'7 iPad Pro, not a desktop. Yes I have the Apple Pencil, don't worry. If anyone can provide me with links, advice or just point me in the right direction it would be extremely helpful.
  3. Hey guys, I'd like to know if there are any plans to develop an Affinity software which would compete with Adobe's Lightroom from a side of batch photo editing. I'd love to go "full affinity" in the future, but as I'm getting more into photography I find it extremely hard to edit like 200+ photos in Affinity Photo. Affinity, please, consider an addition to your already amazing collection of software. <3
  4. I am of course very excited to get Affinity Designer into my workflow. But, there is the issue of round-tripping with Adobe. I know that Designer can output in many different formats. But can it output a file that is openable in Adobe illustrator? Is there that degree of backward compatibility if it is necessary?
  5. When I import swatches using the “Import Palette…” item, I should be able to select palettes saved from Photoshop (ACO – Adobe Photoshop Color Swatch File) or Illustrator (ASE – Adobe Swatch Exchange File). Are there foreign palette formats that AD can import? Maybe that information should be in the Open dialog box… or somewhere. (The Help Center doesn’t seem to do anything. I can search for a topic like “palette,” but can’t expand the results, so maybe the AD entries are just stubs?)
  6. Greetings, I love the tools offered at Retro Supply (brushes) but unfortunately, most are tooled as Adobe Illustrator only. So I have a few questions for the collective brain. Do you know of a way to convert AI brushes to work in Affinity Designer Do you know of a source that has retro etch / engraving brushes such as the one attached Thank you ~ Jack
  7. Orginize Artbords Change all image to multiple images based on orders when you select multiple image and drag them to a repeating item, it automatic replace it with the images in order, so you don't need to change every one your self Create arrow between Artbords Connect your artboards with drag-and-drop to help communicate the flow.
  8. When opening Adobe Illustrator files that contain grouped objects, those object are not grouped when opening in AD as they are in Illustrator. There are groups, but they seem to be random. Is this normal behavior of AD? If so, will there be a fix in the future?
  9. Recently I have come across some discussions about PDF from Affinity Designer incompatibility with Adobe CC 2018. Here is a link for the post on Adobe Forum: https://forums.adobe.com/message/10182519#10182519 I have stopped using Adobe except sometime converting files files for our clients with my old Adobe CS6 and Illustrator CS6 opens pdf from Affinity Designer perfectly. I am wondering if anyone else is also facing such incompatibility issue? It's really sad if Adobe has done it internationally
  10. Love affinity, however, can anyone suggest a workaround when your work is all in fireworks files containing pages and shared layers? I own affinity photo and designer, but both lose the pages and opens my pngs as one flat file. Maybe another interim bit of software that can do it until affinity is able? In a real pickle as my newest imac can not open my older adobe fireworks software. Not Im left to subscribe to adobe to open them and save all the pages out as layered PSDs. Not only is this tedious but if I have to subscribe to adobe it kinda renders affinity moot and I really want to keep up with affinity. I LOVE AFFINITY! help, please? I dont have publisher...maybe it can open pngs that contain shared layers and pages?
  11. Hello everyone, I am a new user of affinity designer, i have 2 questions about patterns: 1. Is there a way to create a pattern as a fill color other than to create a separated file or a symbol and repeat it manually? 2. How to open/import ai files which include a path filled with a pattern. (When i open a ai file includes pattern fill, it seems it converts pattern to bitmap and pixelated which i dont want and i can't manipulate the pattern.) Thank you all.
  12. Can I import Adobe Illustrator files, documents that contain photos and type? Am considering totally switching from Adobe. If I can import is it editable. If I can't import is there a workaround so I don't have to totally recreate?
  13. Excepting iPhone photo editing, I am new to both Affinity Photo and digital post-processing, so on a steep learning curve. The Affinity Photo videos, help, and workbook are all great. I have joined a local club and am taking classes too. With Adobe’s large market share, discussions regularly end up talking about feature X or tool Y in one of the Adobe products. So one of the challenges I still face is figuring out the Adobe software features and nomenclature and then translating the to the corresponding Affinity counterpart. Many software companies have challenged the dominant player by creating a help/guide mapping the dominant software usage to corresponding features in their products. Thanks for considering this.
  14. Hello, I am a big fan of Photo and Designer, and I am super stoked for Publisher. The only thing that is really keeping me from dropping Adobe all together is Premier Pro. I was just wondering if this is type of app is something you have plans for in the future? Again, love what you do and would love to make my shop a full Affinity Suite someday. Thanks
  15. Hi there I love this app (Designer) so much I hardly use Illustrator anymore. AD is so intuitive and powerful. Thank you for that. My number one feature request is the ability to use Adobe's shortcuts. AD is here very uncommon while other apps - up to MS Word! - use the same basic keyboards, such as SHIFT+ ENTER for a new textline without making a new paragraph (this shortcut works even in CMS-Texteditors such as TinyMCE or Redactor or CKEditor). Could we talk of an "industry standard", here? Yes, I think so, this goes far beyond Adobe.) There is also a confusion about when using SHIFT to proportionally scale something and when not. ALT (Option) has been the standard for scaling from the center ever since. ... So my pledge: Please either change them to the well known standards, not only used by Adobe make keyboard shortcut prefs that can be changed thoughout and saved integrate a preference for that in which one can choose "Adobe" as possible Shortcut set. Thank you very much - this would be insanely great. Alex
  16. So I am a bit disappointed so I am going to hope really hard that I am just missing something, a work around is available, or this is being addressed by development so to the point: WHY IS THE WINDOWS APP STORE VERSION A LESS FUNCTIONAL VERSION? I paid the exact same price for Affinity Photo via the Windows App Store but I don't get plugins? I don't get simple "Edit In" function from Lightroom? I don't get access to the betas? WTF? I looked at some other threads in the Questions section and found a few people asking the same question but only one that seemed to have any response from Serif. TLDR version of that post is basically "Why would we put the things you can't do on the marketing page of our application?" Thats a bit of a BS response. You don't have to list all the things it can't do but you could make a simple mention that the Windows App version may not have all the same functionality as the version directly from Serif due to limitations on how Windows App Store apps are handled. So again I paid the same price in the Windows Store as I would have directly through Serif but I don't get full functionality. So if anyone has any information on how to circumvent this issue I would be really appreciative. If not there is always the refund route and I'll make sure to move along from Serif. Not because their application is bad but because when asked about these types of things their moderators give pretty shifty responses and it just seems like a bad business model to charge certain groups of people the same amount for a version of a product that is technically inferior without being transparent about it.
  17. Being one of those designers who works individually I am really cheesed of (I would like to use a stronger in my comment!) with Adobe pricing policy and therefore looking for alternatives to their products. Looking forward to Affinity Publisher being launched in the future, sounds as though it could tick all the boxes. Will it allow the opening of InDesign files without an additional plugin? Will it recognise Adobe eps files too? Hopefully if it does, then being able to interface with my past work files will be the killer for Adobe bandits.
  18. Hi! I couldn't find anything directly related to my question, so I figured I'd try to ask independently. I'm not new to AD (I LOVE IT, by the way), but I am new to AE, and I currently don't see any worthy equivalent to it (hoping you guys make it happen!)... So, as I'm getting more into Motion Graphics, my question is, how do I successfully export my AD work in to AE?? I saw it done on YouTube, but the guy was doing a time lapse vid, and didn't at all show how he seemingly seamlessly imported his vector work into AE. And I don't see ANYWHERE how to do this. I know there's got to be a way. Can anyone please help!? Thank you so much in advance.
  19. I'm curious. How does Affinity Photo handle Adobe Lightroom edits?
  20. Hi there, as an Adobe user for years I´m thinking about switching to AP and donwloaded the trial version. From what I see after one day of testing I´m really impressed and I´m sure it not only can replace Photoshop, it seems to be the better software. With that said I have some questions from a AP beginner (not a image editing beginner at all) perspective: 1. Is there a way to "export" images from Adobe Lightroom right into AP? I mean some option to set AP as the external editor in LR 2. Is there an option to save individual workspaces such as in Photoshop? I mean customize the canvas and panels I use the most and save that. 3. If 2. is possible is there a way to use these individual workspaces on two Macs? I´m using an iMac and a MacBook and would like to have the same environment on both machines 4. Is there a specific workflow with CaptureOne? I mean use C1 for tethering, as catalog and for RAW processing and AP for more advanced image editing/retouching 5. Are "panels" available such as in PS? I mean can I arrange my panels and tools in a way shown in the attached screenshots (and save this in my workspace)? I think that´s all for the moment. Thanks a lot for your support. Cheers Michael
  21. I've been a heavy user of Adobe products during my professional life, and liked their software, except that they bloat them, and the company themselves are assholes. And I notice that you take heavy influence from everything, including the website. Which is fine, as long as you do it better. I love Affinity Photo and have bought Designer and will jump into it soon. Can't wait for a better Lightroom version as well, but I have merely one request: Stay Non-Adobe. Don't bloat, be good, cool guys. There's a lot of people wanting to move away from Adobe. Make their choice easy. Regards, Mikael.
  22. 1. The Most marketplace is requesting .ai file format, is it possible to export file format to .ai? I hope marketplace slowly can accept .afdesign next. 2. Is it possible to shorten the file format? maybe .ad .afd .afde or other shorther formats. it is just my thinking, may be a further development material. Thank You
  23. I love your software (have affinity photo and designer on my mac, photo on my iPad and eagerly awaiting designer on it) and was wondering if any type of PDF solution is planned? Like an Affinity PDF which could serve as a replacement for acrobat.
  24. Hello to all who think they can help, or if you think this might actually be a feature request! I'm trying to make the switch between Adobe and affinity, and I'm having some trouble with Pantone colours. Scenario: One of our clients has asked us to design a product, we've done all the work leading up to the prototype stage, and need to know the Pantone colour value of their logo to match some highlight parts to. We have a .png of their logo, now usually on photoshop I would use the colour picker and then go to the colour library and it would tell me which is the nearest Pantone to my selection. We all do this at my company from time to time but I can't find a similar feature on affinity, am I missing something or is this in the pipeline? I know there are websites which can convert RGB to Pantone etc but they're not the solution we're looking for considering we already had one! Hope someone can help David
  25. Affinity used some of the questions Try for a while, Affinity photo & design, bought a license. Use Adobe suite for many years, see the software, that is the most close to Adobe, while slightly more puzzled than the Adobe suite, the price is still more affordable. But there are some areas that need to be improved. as follows: A) the first, of course, the most important, the menu character shortcuts can not be used in conjunction with the ALT key, which is very annoying, you have to know, in the photoshop inside, the combination of ALT and character fast, I basically do not have other fast The key. B) text layout, graphic surround function is not yet, it makes me unable to fully migrate to Affinity up, the text function second point, the symbol layout rules are not perfect, for example, comma or stop at the beginning, it is Embarrassing things. C) photo and design functions overlap problem, simply say, design is photo castration version, plus a little bit of small features on the layout. The same price, but bought a copy, how reasonable planning two software functionality, this is a question worth thinking about. I am using google translation, I come from China, will only be a little bit of English, we will look, you reply, do not use too complicated syntax and words, so I can understand, let google translation hang up. Thanks a loooooooooots
