  1. Serif allow customers to test new builds of the software even before it is released to the public. These "beta" builds offer an opportunity to trial bug fixes, add support for new file formats and show off new features before they are launched. This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are trying the latest beta version of the Affinity software on your platform. Product Name | Platform | Beta Ver. | ====================|====================|===============| Affinity Designer | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | 1.8.5.703 | Affinity Photo | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | 1.8.5.703 | Affinity Publisher | Windows 7, 8.1, 10 | 1.8.5.703 | Please see the last post in this thread for links to posts announcing these beta builds. Those pinned posts have download links to the beta software. Windows Customer Betas require you to be an owner of the paid for version of the software to work. You either need to have the software installed on the same computer as the customer beta OR if you bought direct from the affinity.store website you can provide the product key to activate the beta. If you would like to try the Windows Customer Beta build look for the top (pinned) post in each of these forums: Affinity Designer beta for Windows Affinity Photo beta for Windows Affinity Publisher beta for Windows Windows build numbers and Mac builds are technically independent. The third number increases each time a public release is made, the last number is generated by a build server and so not directly related to each other. We will update/edit this post as new Windows Beta releases are added by the developers, so the version numbers should always be right. We will also post to the bottom of the thread so the forum sends a notification to anyone who wants one This thread is locked and will only be posted to by Serif Staff when the beta release versions are updated. Please follow this thread if you want to know about future version changes. If you think this post has got behind announcing the Windows beta updates and needs updating please PM me.

  5. Hi Patrick, I noticed in Melanie's article announcing these updates, that she mentions "free update" a number of times. This causes me to wonder if future updates will not be "free" and a payment. Can you provide feedback or clarification on this please?
  6. the tone mapping persona filters are not working for me any help this is what i usually use when post processing my edits!?
  7. When developing a RAW file (I have tried DNG and RW2 with same results), the images look completely different after clicking the Develop button in the Develop Persona. The image looks completely washed out. See the before and after attached. Using Windows 10, Affinity Photo version 1.7.3.481. Problem started recently, I have not changed any settings, same video card, display, color profile, etc.
  8. The 1.8.4 update removed Use Windows Ink for tablet input from Preferences > Tools and Affinity apps have reverted to using the Wintab-based high precision tablet input. More information can be found here. This change means that, by default, Affinity apps no longer supports Mouse Mode. However, if you would like to revert to how 1.8.3 received input from your tablet you can run our apps with the Legacy Wintab Flag enabled. To do this, press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog and then type CMD and press Enter. This will launch Command Prompt. *Presuming you have the app installed in the default location, type in cd "C:\Program Files\Affinity\Designer\" and press Enter. Now type Designer --legacy-wintab and press Enter - the app will now launch. *If you installed the app to a different location or you're using Photo, please update the location to point to correct folder. Alternatively, you can change the app's shortcut to include the Legacy Wintab Flag by adding --legacy-wintab at the end of the path listed in the Target field.
  9. The 1.8.4 update removed Use Windows Ink for tablet input from Preferences > Tools so that we could improve precision of pen strokes within our apps on Windows. Affinity apps originally had a Wintab-based high precision tablet input option that wasn't enabled by default as it was deemed unreliable. When we released our 1.8.0 update, we replaced our Wintab-based high precision tablet input option with a Windows Ink-based solution, but that was also unreliable. So, in our 1.8.4 update we have returned to the Wintab-based high precision tablet input and have implemented fixes that resolve the reliability issues. This option is on by default but it's possible to use Windows Ink within our apps by turning on Windows Ink in the tablet driver settings and running the app with the Disable Wintab Flag enabled. To do this, press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog and then type CMD and press Enter. This will launch Command Prompt. *Presuming you have the app installed in the default location, type in cd "C:\Program Files\Affinity\Designer\" and press Enter. Now type Designer --disable-wintab and press Enter - the app will now launch. *If you installed the app to a different location or you're using Photo, please update the location to point to correct folder. Alternatively, you can change the app's shortcut to include the Disable Wintab Flag by adding --disable-wintab at the end of the path listed in the Target field.
  10. Hi I am a windows user and yesterday I made the upgrade to AP 1.8.4 and I could not use Crop Tool properly, I could not change from pixel to mm, if I tried the scale was not correct to the added numbers. I tried to reinstal, restart the computer everything, but only removing 1.8.4 and instaling 1.8.3 solved the issue. Please have a look on this issue. I had no anything like this before.
  11. I was building some fairly large panoramas in Affinity Photo today, pointed AP at 30-40 raw files and sent it on its way. I was working on another (non-AP related) task when my C: drive filled up! I had to scramble to free up some space. Several programs I had started panicking on the low disk space, though I never saw a message from AP. I ended up canceling the rendering of my panos to worry about it later. When I closed AP, several gigs were cleared up on C:. I have a larger data disk that I would prefer to be used for this type of temporary data, but I couldn't find anything in the settings pages that allowed me to change it. Is there a setting for this, and if so, where? Thanks!
  12. About The Box Set is hundreds of vector and raster brushes made for Affinity Photo & Designer. Each brush was handmade using real materials scanned at high resolutions and crafted to simulate real media. I wanted the origin of the brushes to have a heritage of the materials they are simulating. Scanning pools of watercolor, swatches of paint, and stipples of charcoal contributed to creating brushes with the same idiosyncratic material magic. My only request is that you take these brushes, with their clever names, as suggestions. They work superbly out of the box, but I strongly encourage you to adjust the sliders, rearrange or remove the textures, and discover how they can suit your hand(s). Make. Discover. Repeat. Cheers and happy art making, -Jef (WREN) RASTER BRUSHES For use in Affinity Photo and Designer. The blending brush in the Oil Set is the only one exclusive to Affinity Photo. DRAFTING INK OIL Oil Brush Dynamics Most oil brushes have blending built into pen pressure. With a single brush and hue you can adjust the luminosity of the stroke- giving it an oily blend. The Brush's color in the example above is the color of the background. A normal pressure gives you the hue without any lightening or darkening. 13. In Windows there are some apps that will load on whichever monitor the mouse is sitting on. So you can click to launch an app and then quickly move the mouse to the monitor on which you want the app to appear. Handbrake and AviDemux are a couple of examples. Affinity Apps don't do this. They load on the last monitor they were used. Can we get a setting to load the app on the same monitor the mouse is on?

  15. Hi, I have a simple question. First off I love Affinity Photo and am moving all my photo editing needs over to it, but was wondering why all my .ORF files consistently appear at least 1 to 2 stops darker in the develop persona than what the JPEG embedded preview shows? Is there a setting that I have wrong or is this just something I have to get used too? I'm currently running 1.6.2 on Windows. I'm used to seeing the exposure level showing the same level as the JPEG preview in other editors.
  16. Hello everybody. I am not sure if this is a bug coming from Affinity Photo or Windows or if it is even a bug bu here is the deal: I know you can alter the hardness and size of the brush by holding CTRL + ALT + right click and if I perform the shortcut everything works as it should. However, if I want to perform the actions with my pen stylus instead nothing happens. I only get this annoying white ring as seen in the attached picture. My pen (Wacom Pro L) is set to perform right click and it works. Only Affinity Photo seems to not get the right click input from the stylus... Can somebody please help me? It slows down my workflow so much it really gets me angry and frustrated. Is there a way to set the shortcut combination to something different? I tried to find it in the settings but the only thing I can find for brush size ist [ or ] and that does not help me. Thank you in advance for your help! I am really looking forward to it. Best, Gomorrah
  17. 90 day trials of Photo and Designer won't launch on my Windows 10 desktop. I've tried re-installing and restarting. I've reviewed the threads regarding 3rd party software issues, I don't have any of these on my system. I updated my NVIDIA graphic card driver and took the steps to force start for a dedicated GPU. None of these steps have worked, apps freeze on splash page and don't launch. Crash report is attached, any suggestions appreciated. I was really looking forward to trying these. Thx. 751ccbad-e343-4a28-89fd-4bacadd3f127.dmp
  18. Hi, I have just upgraded to Designer version 1.6.2 for windows. When I move a layer, either a image or a vector, in the background, it automatically jumps to the front of the art board. This happens when I use the mouse AND the directional arrows on my keyboard. Is there a setting that I am missing or is it a bug?
  19. Hello! I'm having a frustrating time with the brush tool in Affinity Photo. I was drawing with the brush tool but it suddenly stop working. Opacity, flow and hardness are all 100% and protect alpha is unticked. All the other tools work. I tried the 'edit in affinity designer' option but designer also refused to paint on the document. I have opened and closed the programme several times upon advice in previous forums. I've tried painting on different layers and adding new layers to paint but there's no response. I also tried painting whilst not having a layer selected (letting the assistant automatically create a new pixel layer) but the brush still doesn't paint. The strange thing is that i opened a new document and the brush tool works with no issues and with all the same settings as the document which isn't painting. I had both the new document and the document i'm working on open and the programme would only paint on the new document. How can this be fixed? I'm mid way through a drawing and can no longer complete it. Thank you!
  20. I'm running Affinity Designer 1.5.1.43 on Windows 10 and it is freezing up constantly. About once per minute it'll freeze for maybe 3-4 seconds and then everything goes back to normal. When it freezes Designer will use about 50% of the CPU capacity for the duration of the freeze. I would assume my computer's CPU simply isn't powerful enough, but Designer regularly uses up to 90% of the CPU capacity with no problems. Also this was never a problem before (same computer, same files). It's been about a month since I last used Designer. This problem started last week when I opened it up and updated to the latest version. System specs: Windows 10 64-bit Intel Pentium G4400 3.3GHz dual core 8GB RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 256GB SSD Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks.

  22. When making a selection on the canvas and bringing my mouse down to the bottom, the document would auto scroll downwards allowing me to make additional selections as and when objects were revealed in view. Alternatively I used to be able to make a selection and use my mouse wheel to scroll the document. Both of the above features in the recent Affinity Designer for Windows update have appeared to stopped working V1.8 (just checked and can confirm this has also stopped working in Affinity Photo, however it worked in previous versions for both Photo & Designer)
  23. How can I add the fill and stroke color inside the tool bar like in this picture?
  24. I read that the windows shortcut for brush size and hardness are holding Alt + Right Mouse Button and then dragging left/right or up/down. However this is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong?
